Editi Effiong to premiere directorial debut ‘Fishbone’ on YouTube

The anticipated short film will premiere on YouTube on May 1,2020.

'Up North' producer, Editi Effiong is set to release his anticipated directorial debut, 'Fishbone'.

The short film billed for a May 1, 2020 release, was shot in Makoko area of Lagos and is based on a drug counterfeiting cartel and its ruthless leader who repeatedly eludes law enforcement.

Shaffy Bello and Daniel Etim Effiong lead the film's cast. Bello as the ruthless drug lord while Effiong plays the passionate law enforcement agent who attempts to end the cartel.

'Fishbone' is an Anakle film production in collaboration with the US Embassy Nigeria and the US department of Justice.

Netflix drops teaser for 2nd African original series 'Jiva!'

Netflix is gearing up to release its second African original series titled 'Jiva!'

According to fresh reports, the South African produced series is based on a street dancer, Ntomi ( breakout star, Noxolo Dlamini) who discovers that her love for dancing may be her way out of a turbulent life.

The Busisiwe Ntintili created series will be directed by 'Hear Me Move' Director, Scottnes L. Smith and 'Emoyeni' Director, Mmambatho Montsho.

'Jiva' is produced by Blue Ice Africa and stars Candice Modiselle, Sne Mbatha, Stella Dlangalala, and Tony Kgoroge.


Nigerian drummer Tony Allen dies in Paris

The cause of legend's death has not been confirmed.

On April 30, 2020, legendary Nigerian drummer, Tony Oladipo Allen died at the age of 80 in Paris, France.

At this time, the cause of death is still unknown, but it has been confirmed that the legend has passed away.

Allen is known as one of the founders of Afrobeat with the legendary Fela Anikulapo-Kuti. In his heyday, many revered him as one of the greatest drummers to have ever lived.

Fela once famously said, "Without Tony Allen, there would be no Afrobeat."


Allen was a core member of Fela's Africa 70 band and made the following albums with Fela, Gentleman (1973), Expensive Shit (1975) and Zombie (1976).

Famously, he worked with Max Roach, Frank Butler, Damon Albarn, King Sunny Ade, the late Manu Dibango and many more.
