Amaarae releases new single, 'Leave Me Alone'

Posted: 11 Jul 2020 01:00 AM PDT

The nostalgic sound and theme of this single is reminiscent of hazy summer nights, freedom, and passion, to name a few necessities that have been lacking in recent months.

Date: July 10, 2020

Song Title: Leave Me Alone

Artist: Amaarae

Genre: R&B, AfroR&B

Producer: Kuvie & KZ The Producer

Album: The Angel You Don't Know

Video Director: TBA

Label: Platoon

Details/Takeaway: Amaarae has returned to our sound waves with her new single "Leave Me Alone" via Platoon, the first track from her highly anticipated EP: "The Angel You Don't Know".

In true Amaarae fashion, 'Leave Me Alone' is laced with the artist's signature (and instantly recognisable) low-wind falsetto. The nostalgic sound and theme of this single is reminiscent of hazy summer nights, freedom, and passion, to name a few necessities that have been lacking in recent months.

Giving listeners a little piece of her, whilst also demonstrating a similar sonic freedom as seen in previous hits such as 'Spend Some Time,' and 'Like It' what we are getting is a undoubtedly warm, moody, escapist sound from this rising star paving her own lane in the Alt-RnB world.

Speaking on the single, Amaarae says, "'Leave Me Alone' is a freedom record. It's just about wanting to live your life and be left to do so. There's so much going on in the world right now. We all need a break - or some form of escape and this song speaks to that desire. It's about having the space to breathe, process and get your mental and emotional states right."

On the inspiration for her forthcoming EP The Angel You Don't Know, she says, "Working on this project, I felt like I was finally coming into my own and saying what I wanted to say as an artist. This is the new version of me. This is where my journey as an artist is really starting, everything prior to this was me searching for myself, it was the growing pains."

Instagram comedian, ‘Taaooma’ looks Radiant as she Covers Media Room Hub’s July Issue

Posted: 11 Jul 2020 12:00 AM PDT

Social media sensation, and comedian, Maryam Apaokagi, popularly known as Taaooma is the cover star for Media Room Hub's July 2020 issue.

Taaooma has been keeping everyone glued to her Instagram page with such message-filled, creative and very relatable skits. The 21-year-old Tourism, Hospitality and Event Management graduate who is also the CEO of Chop Tao and the First Lady of The Grenade Company, opens up on being an Instagram sensation, her vision for Taaooma, how she was sexually molested, her stand on rape and how she met her husband to be, Abdulaziz 'Abula' Oladimeji, who is a film director and the CEO of The Grenade Company amongst other things.

Read excerpts from the interview:

ON MAKING A LIVING OUT WITH SKITS, CREATIVE PROCESS, AND FAVOURITE CHARACTER

I realized I can make a living out of it almost immediately. It was looking like it was too far but I kept on and in 2019, I started making money out of it. When I started I was just doing it for fun. I was not expecting anything out of it I was just doing it because I liked what I was doing. I was also learning editing which I really wanted to do that time as well.

Shooting and editing I do it myself, although sometimes when I need someone to help me behind the camera I always call on Abula to help for editing, I do that myself. I used to like Iya Tao but now I like Baba Tao.

I would describe them as a loving family. Baba Tao loves Iya tao and same for her too she loves her husband but they like fighting a lot and Iya Tao is a non-nonsense person she is always scolding Tao even for the least of things that is important. So basically, the family is a loving family.

HER OPINION ON COSMETIC SURGERY

I feel sad for them. In some cases, it's not that they are not content but pressure from people who body shame them makes them do something to their bodies. Andy advice to them is just staying content with what you have, don't let anybody make you feel less of yourself cause it's your body.

After having kids I am not sure how my body will look but then even if it turns out the way I don't like it I will just try to work out more. Anyhow it turns I don't think I would want to do that because I hate it.

HER TAKE ON THE RAPE CULTURE
I'm saying no to rape, I don't even like the word, I don't like the conversation about it because I can beat you if you try to defend a rapist. Also, I feel like 95 per cent of girls right now have been sexually harassed before or even raped one way or the other so we all have something to say and we are going to fight it. We faced it but our children are not going to face it.

EXPERIENCE WITH MOLESTATION
Yes, at home and it took me time before I could tell my mum about it and I was so pained that I couldn't tell her and she couldn't do anything to those people. People should be careful leaving their kids around with uncles and aunts because at this time I was around 8 or 9 years and I just got the nerve to tell my mum about it when I was 15 so it just a very bad thing. As the hashtag comes up people are already speaking up which is a way forward.

HER TAKE ON DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
I hate the word violence and I think people should stop the act because it's dehumanizing. If you experience any of it you should speak up. I don't think I'm in the best position to say this pls leave the marriage if you can't leave just come out and talk cause it can leave your children motherless its shouldn't be what you should withstanding.

ON HOW SHE MET HER FIANCE ABULA
He came to serve in Ilorin, he is my brother's friend and he used to come to our house that was how we met. He is actually the CEO and I'm more of a partner. Basically we shoot music videos and movies, though we haven't shot any movie yet that's part of it.

Hushpuppi Got Married To A St. Kitts Woman In October 2018

Posted: 10 Jul 2020 10:00 PM PDT

The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis have assured that Ramon Olorunwa Abbas alias 'Ray Hushpuppi' is not a citizen of the Federation through Citizenship By Investment but admitted he was a citizen through Marriage.

Ramon Olorunwa Abbas faces money laundering conspiracy charges in the United States, according to the Department of Justice. He appeared in a federal court in Chicago on Friday accused of conspiring to launder hundreds of millions of dollars through cybercrime schemes.

In a statement Monday the government of St. Kitts and Nevis said it has become aware of reports and rumors concerning the Federation's citizenship of Ramon Olorunwa Abbas, allegedly a person of interest to the United States FBI.

"We note that the Nigeria-born Mr. Abbas, 37, was granted a St. Kitts and Nevis passport in February 2020 by virtue of his marriage to Shawana Nakesia Chapman, 32, a citizen of St. Kitts and Nevis by birth and the United States of America. Ms. Chapman, a resident of North Carolina, USA, married Mr. Abbas in Nigeria in October 2018, thereby conferring him with the right to St. Kitts and Nevis citizenship."

The statement noted that reports stating he was a Citizenship by Investment were false.

"Any suggestion that citizenship was obtained through means other than marriage– such as the country's Citizenship by Investment program, which includes rigorous background checks – is therefore utterly false and willfully misleading."

Ramon Olorunwa Abbas, according to reports claims to run a real estate business. He is purported to have conspired to launder millions of dollars through business email compromise (BEC) frauds and other scams, the US Department of Justice said.

He was arrested last month by authorities in the United Arab Emirates, where he was a resident

5 Nigerian entertainers who are trained lawyers

Posted: 10 Jul 2020 06:00 AM PDT

The Nigerian entertainment industry was once seen as a sector for dropouts who had nothing to do before taking up entertainment.

That narrative is long gone and nowadays, some of the biggest celebrities from entertainment are university graduates.

This is why for this Pulse List, we have decided to talk about five of these celebrities who were trained as lawyers.

1. Falz Folarin Falana
They say a fruit does not fall far from the tree so it's no surprise that Falz Falana turned out to be a lawyer. Falz' dad, Femi Falana SAN, is one of the most prominent lawyers in Nigeria.

Falz gained a lot of popularity a few years ago when he first started with his short skits on social media before his music career began to gain a lot of momentum.

It didn't take long before we got to find out that Falz was the son of the legal luminary, Falana.

Falz studied law at the University of Reading in the United Kingdom before returning to the country.

We predict that after a successful career in music, Falz will return to the legal world, maybe as an entertainment lawyer.

2. Ebuka Obi-Uchendu
Ebuka Obi-Uchendu isn't just smart, eloquent or great at his job but also a trained lawyer. Ebuka became popular after his stint at the first edition of 'Big Brother Naija' in 2006.

Since then, there has been no slowing down for him as he has been able to break into every aspect of media in entertainment. From hosting reality TV shows to having his own TV program 'Rubbin Minds,' the Okija born lawyer has indeed done well for himself.

Ebuka studied law at the University of Abuja in 2005 and went on to get a masters degree in law from the University of Washington. In 2020, Ebuka joined the team of a TV law show 'Judging Matters' which he anchors. The show deals with small and minor legal issues in Lagos.

3. Omawumi
Omawumi became famous in 2007 as the runner-up on of the first edition of the 'West African Idols'. Since then she has gone on to become one of the biggest female singers from this part of the world.

Omawumi studied law at Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma and practiced for a while.

Omawumi also studied French...beauty and brains right? Omawumi is now married with kids but we think she too might one day pick up that wig and storm the courtroom.

4. Richard Mofe-Damijo
For years to come, the entertainment world will continue to talk and sing the praises of Richard Mofe-Damijo for his outstanding and yet to be rivaled acting career. He has remained one of the most sought after and influential actors in Nigeria.

The Delta state-born actor and politician first studied Theatre Arts at the University of Benin. He later went back to the University of Lagos in 1997 where he bagged a Law degree.

Damijo at some point took a break from acting to delve into politics and served as the Commissioner of Culture and Tourism in his home state, Delta.

5. Funke Akindele
Funke Akindele first shot into the limelight in the late 1990s in the famous TV drama series 'I Need To Know.'

Then came her major break in 2009 when she released the movie 'Jenifa,' which has remained of the biggest movies from this part of the world.

Tiwa Savage returns with 'Dangerous Love,' a much better new single

Posted: 10 Jul 2020 04:00 AM PDT

Tiwa Savage discusses the eerie tendencies of emotional gambling.

Date: July 8, 2020

Song Title: Dangerous Love

Artist: Tiwa Savage

Genre: Afrobeat

Producer: Cracker Mallo

Album: Celia

Video Director: TBA

Label: Universal Music Group

Details/Takeaway: With her album, Celia on the horizon, Tiwa Savage returns with an improvement on the maelstrom of terrible singles that made up her 2019. With a melodious Afrobeat that catches your attention from the first "Jare," Tiwa Savage discusses the eerie tendencies of emotional gambling.

Review: Tiwa Savage had a very topsy-turvy 2019. While 'Shotan' was a good song, it had very little impact. Despite having great push, her final three singles of the year had little spark and no shock value. Her fans might have liked the songs, but they seemed like poorly selected singles by people with no idea of what they were doing.

This time, 'Dangerous Love' has high potential. It might still not crack the 'hit' status on which an album can be birthed, but it is soft landing for a superstar in desperate need of one. She can use it as platform to release other strong single. That said, the song could surprise us all and do something special. It's a good song.

After finding out that Shorae, Oxlade and Mystro wrote the song, the 'Jareeeee' adlibs make sense now.

Actress Wema Sepetu – I Miss How Diamond Platnumz Used To Beat Me Up Because I Loved It

Posted: 10 Jul 2020 01:00 AM PDT

Tanzanian actress and model, Wema Sepetu has recounted her alleged experience while she was dating music star, Diamond Platnumz.

Wema Sepetu talks about Diamond Platnumz

The two dated about a decade ago and went their separate ways in 2014. While Diamond's music career had just taken off at that time, Wema on the other hand was the most sought after and bankable Tanzanian actress at the time.

In an interview with Ijumaa Wikienda, the actress disclosed that one thing she misses about dating Diamond Platnumz was how he used to "beat her up". Wema added that she loved it because he gave her attention thereafter.

She said; "He would beat me up thoroughly.

"Ironically, I loved it when he battered me, I just don't know why that was the case. But, I remember he would pamper me after assaulting me, and, I think I loved it because he'd give me attention after the battering. Honestly speaking, I miss being beaten up by him, a lot.

"I remember there was a day he saw a suggestive message on my phone. Out of anger, he gave me a hard slap on the cheek. My siblings came to know that I was a victim of domestic abuse. They pleaded with me to leave him, but I told them that they should leave me alone as I was enjoying being beaten up by him."

Recall in 2016 that Diamond Platnumz disclosed that there was no woman he had loved more than Wema Sepetu.

He said at that time "I loved her so much that at times when I felt I was going to lose her to another man, I would cry over her."
