Williams Uchemba advises youths against fraud says ‘Success comes at a big price’

Posted: 20 Jul 2020 12:30 AM PDT

Nollywood actor, Williams Uchemba has advised youth to shun all forms of social vices and follow their dream religiously in order to make good impacts in the society.

The actor is of the opinion that youths who doesn't want to pay the price of being successful are the ones that go into fraud. He went on to recount how he gave up on becoming an internet fraudster.

He said:

"Young people listen to me, especially those of you who are thinking of considering fraud. The reason why you're going through what you're going through is because you don't want to pay the price. There is a price for success. People asked me what did I do with the laptop I was about to use for fraud, yes, I donated it to the church.

"There was a building project going on in the church, so I sowed the laptop and said use the money to build church. I knew I was going to be rich, but there was a problem with my foundation, and that is what I want to draw your attention to.

"Most of you have seen what God wants to do with you, even most of these people doing fraud know. Even if you go to a 'Babalawo', if you don't have a destiny, they will tell you it won't work for you. These people see your star, they know you will be rich in life. The devil doesn't build something on nothing…"

August Alsina reacts to Jada and Will Smith’s viral Red Table talk interview

Posted: 19 Jul 2020 10:30 PM PDT

American singer-songwriter August Anthony Alsina Jr. (born September 3, 1992) has finally reacted to Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith's viral 'Red Table talk' interview last week where Jada admitted she had a relationship with August when she and her husband Will Smith had separated.

The word "entanglement" went viral as Jada repeatedly used it to define what was going on between them, as Will pushed for her to be more specific. She confirmed it was a relationship, one that happened while she and Will were on a break and on the brink of divorce.

Alsina was the one who first made the relationship public by speaking about it with Angela Yee on The Breakfast Club and then when his claims made headlines, the Smiths decided to address them head-on.

While August claims he hasn't watched the complete episode, he has now reacted to Jada calling their relationship an "entanglement."

In a new interview with Vulture, Alsina said;

"I don't know why that word is such an issue. I would agree,"
"If you look up the definition of 'entanglement,' it is a complex and difficult relationship. It was exactly that. I think it's just the language that probably stuck out to people. But I definitely have to agree with it being an entanglement. It definitely was something complicated, a complicated dynamic."

He explained he spoke out in the first place because "a lot of chatter" about the situation was already out there and he was starting to get a reputation as "this problematic guy who was super reckless, like I'm pushing up on someone's wife."

"I didn't really like that. I didn't like the sound of that, especially when it wasn't the truth," he continued, saying that the perception also "started to f–k with my partnerships and business relationships and money."

"I didn't like how that started to tamper with my life and finances," he added. "I felt it necessary to get it out off of my spirit and clear the air."

Alsina says he doesn't "have an issue with anybody." now the story is out in the public space.
He added, "I love everybody. I love all of them. They've been my family, and there's a lot of history there."

He also revealed he didn't have regrets about the relationship because of what he learned about himself through it.

"[It] helped me to operate and access my higher self," he said. "I don't regret it at all because I know that on this planet, there is not much harmony, and there is not much love, so when you're actually given love, real love that you've never experienced, it is a gift."

Seun Kuti – Why I was told to abandon D’banj

Posted: 19 Jul 2020 10:00 PM PDT

Musician and son of the legendary Afrobeats maestro, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, Seun Kuti has revealed why he was told to abandon his colleague, D'banj.

Seun says it was due to the rape saga that has been trailing the Koko Master for a while.

In an interview with The Sun, the Egypt '80 bandleader and Grammy award nominee said,

"One issue that has dominated national discuss lately is rape. This rape thing eh… even me, I have been affected, because I did a song with D'banj that has not been released, and everybody is saying I have to abandon D'banj. You want my take on rape? For me, the appropriate discussion that should be had among African people all over the world cannot be rape. What we must discuss is rape culture. The things that happen among us in our community that empower, embolden and encourage rapists. We can continue to go after individuals, but as long as the culture that encourages, emboldens and empowers rapists continues to be sustained, then rape will not stop. What do I mean by rape culture? Young men are brought up and told that women are created for man. In fact, majority of Nigerian men are raised believing that God did not even remember to create women. Men were bored and God was like 'oh, Adam needs Eve so he crated Eve'. Now, this is one aspect of rape culture, that mentality that diminishes women in front of men, that makes certain people believe that women are property. So, you find a higher percentage of women being abused because we have a higher percentage of religious people that believe this. That is why you hear people saying I cannot rape my wife."

He continued, "Now, we also operate a capitalist system. Capitalism is exploitation whether you like it or not; it is the exploitation of man and nature. We see it in what we call climate change and global warming. See how nature is being abused, destroyed and raped! We sit down in Africa and watch men completely rape nations. People in Nigeria using our own resources to become billionaires by selling us to the highest bidder, not thinking of the larger good of everybody, but thinking of how they can extract as much by raping their own people. Men like these are elevated in our society, and there is a small gap between raping a people and raping a woman. It is not only in Africa. Men that exploit nations must exploit industries, people and persons. Harvey Weinstein, Bill Cosby, the list is endless. Look at the top, Donald Trump, Boris Johnson; they all have rape allegations. We listen to songs all day debasing women. Spank a bitch! F-ck a hoe! Women aint sh-t! Black women this, black women that! We support these people and elevate them to the top of the entertainment industry and arts, and children begin to look up to them. And to justify this, they argue that 'Arnold Swarzeneeger is killing people in his films, why are you not saying that is the reason why there is so much killing going on? But you are saying that it is what we say in our music that is affecting the youth. There is nobody in this world that will think about killing people after watching one scene in one film; nobody does that!' And you watch the film, maybe once or twice in a year no matter how interesting that film is. But talking about your favourite song, you hum it to yourself in your palour, in the bathroom. You hear it play at least 20 times a day. It is not the same influence. Stop deceiving our youths. There is exploitation everywhere. Everywhere rapists abound! Then we are surprised when these same people are exposed for actually raping one person. My people have been made to believe that, once you are rich, freedom becomes the power to do and undo as long as you can. For them, nothing is sacred, nothing! We encourage the freedom of individual power with no responsibility attached and then we complain that people are raped. Rape culture exists in the church where little boys and girls are abused. As long as we embrace this mentality, it will continue to be what it is, and it is not only in Africa, it is also in all communities. How are they raping their women in (Saudi) Arabia? How are they not raping their women in America? It is all the same because people are infected with rape culture. Rape culture has its foundation in religion and capitalism."

Mr Eazi raises $20 million to invest in African music creatives

Posted: 19 Jul 2020 09:00 AM PDT

Top Nigerian act, Oluwatosin Ajibade popularly known as Mr Eazi is raising $20 million to invest in African music creatives.

The singer told CNN how he plans to create a new funding model for the music business on the continent through the Africa Music Fund (AMF).

According to Mr. Eazi one of his primary motivations for funding music on the continent is to provide financial support for artists to expand their catalog, as many investors don't understand the business of music. He said;

"Artists cannot go to banks to get money for their music because financial institutions don't understand how to secure intellectual property. They get it for physical properties but not for music. So, because not a lot of people understand the music business, there is no finance product for musicians."

Selected artists will be given funding depending on their revenue and projected incomes, using metrics such as streaming revenue, the initial advance invested in an artist's music will be paid back in installments as the artist's earnings start to rise, he added.

Mr. Eazi, who has more than five million monthly listeners on Spotify says the Africa Music Fund (AMF) will also create access to a larger audience for music acts by helping them find and book shows as well as distribute their music.

Music analyst, Toye Sokunbi said the AMF fund will benefit Africa's creative sector as it will open more doors for music talents on the continent.

Gani Adams – “Tolulope Arotile’s death looks suspicious to me”

Posted: 19 Jul 2020 08:00 AM PDT

Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Abiodun Ige Adams, has stated that the death of Tolulope Arotile looks suspicious to him.

The Nigeria Air Force (NAF) has two days back revealed that Tolulope Arotile, Nigeria's First female combat helicopter pilot, was hit with a car driven by her ex-classmate

Tolulope Arotile died at age 24 as a result of head injuries she sustained from the accident, which happened at the Nigerian Air Force base in Kaduna state.

Speaking on her demise, Gani Adams urged the Federal Government to properly investigate her cause of death, saying the death was suspicious.

This was made known in a statement released by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Aderemi.

While condoling with the family of the deceased, Adams also urged the International Community, the United Nation, European Union, United States and Britain to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of the young and promising girl. He said;

"Nigeria has lost one of its best brains in the military in such a suspicious circumstances. The late Tolulope Arotile's short span in life was remarkable with a track record of being the first female combat helicopter pilot. The best we can do as a nation is to get to the root of the circumstances culminating in her death"

"As far as I am concerned, reports of her death still remained suspicious to me because her death has raised many questions"

"How would such a promising, young girl be killed by a reversing car within the premises of the barrack? Who drove the car? What was his or her name? Where was the suspected killer at the moment? And what is the present situation? We will like to know, and that is why I am charging the International Community to investigate and look into the circumstances surrounding her death"

Adams, however, said the death of such a promising, young girl has exposed the nation as a country that never values the lives of its citizens, especially, the best and exceptional citizens"

"I take an exception to believe the story surrounding her gruesome murder. Her achievements speak volumes and many in the system may see her rising profile as a threat to the establishment,mostly with her passion towards ending the threats of the dreaded Boko Haram and bandits terrorising the North-west and the rest of the country".

" I feel the pain of a father whose daughter's shining light went dim unexpectedly.The sadness of losing a promising girl like Totulope was eternal to her family, because of her talents and dedication to duty, so it should not go the usual way, where our best brains died without any investigation being carried out"

"Tolu's father said he spoke with his daughter, by 1pm and by 5pm, a few hours later she was reportedly killed by a reversing car and was in the mortuary.That story needs to be investigated because her case is one out of the many deaths of great Nigerians that made positive impacts toward making Nigeria great, and that is one of the reasons people of excellent and exceptional brains find it difficult to serve the country,and they are all over the world doing great"

" I have traveled across the world,and I see many Nigerians doing wonderfully well in their respective disciplines, but they always feel reluctant to come back home,because of the way we treat our best brains, I think this is too bad for the development of our nation. More so, I share in the grief of the family as I pray God to give the family the fortitude to bear the loss". He said.
