Nigerian Journalist says "Genevieve Is An Average Actress, Adesua’s Acting Is Underwhelming"

Posted: 05 Jul 2020 11:30 PM PDT

A Nigerian journalist identified as Gimba Kakanda is of the opinion that Genevieve Nnaji is an average actress. According to him, there is nothing extraordinary about her acting.

He pointed out that Mercy Johnson is more talented than Genevieve Nnaji. Gimba also said that there's nothing spectacular about Adesua Etomi, adding that she is just an everyday Nollywood actress.

He wrote,

"Genevieve is actually an average actress, there's nothing extraordinarily spectacular about her acting. You should be talking about someone like Mercy Johnson if you want to talk about someone much more talented, and above the league of Adesua.

I watched Sugar Rush when it hit the cinema, and I didn't find Adesua Etomi's acting underwhelming as some have observed. She's your everyday Nollywood actress, nothing spectacular but commendable. It's too soon to judge her fairly because we haven't seen the extent of her range.

Adesua is yet to be stretched in the fashion of, say, the incredibly talented Mercy Johnson. She's unlikely to have Mercy's range, and talent, but her difference with actresses like Genevieve is the one between six and half a dozen. She's a Genevieve with less movies and stardom."

Josh2Funny Reveals, 'Ladies Who Rejected Him Are Now Regretting' As He Speaks On Success Of #Don’tLeaveMe Challenge

Posted: 05 Jul 2020 10:30 PM PDT

Comedian and Instagram personality, Chibuike Alfred, better known as Josh2funny, is a happy man at the moment. This is as a result of the recognition recorded by his #Don'tLeaveMe. The challenge has incredibly garnered foreign recognition.

Even Hollywood stars took part in the #Don'tLeaveMe challenge inspired by a skit where he punned around with the word 'leaf' with the help of his hype man Bello Kreb.

The comedian told Sunday Scoop that seeing his story on foreign news media such as CNN and The Guardian was not only overwhelming but mind-blowing.

He said, "The home and international recognition #Don'tleavemechallenge has gained so far makes me feel very good. This is the reason we work so hard― so that people all over the world can see what we do. It's just pure fulfilment when these things happen. The #Don'tleavemechallenge is turning into a 'culture' right now. For now, we're trying to make use of the exposure to sell #Don'tleaveme merch, Ankara, shirts, caps etc which is making good sales. Some brands have also been in talks with us and we're hoping that good thing comes out of it.

''I have created many trends in the past but I don't understand why this favoured me. I just do my skits with all my heart and I think God crowns my effort. There're a lot of hardworking/talented comedians but there is just this thing that makes my skits go viral that I don't understand. However, I think it's my mother's prayer that's at work. I think some of the factors that has helped me is my background, the kind of music I was exposed to and some other things.

''It's mind-blowing and overwhelming to see my story on foreign new sites because this is what I have been praying for. It's an encouragement that I have to keep putting in my best because anything can happen unexpectedly.''

The 29 year also revealed that ladies who had turned him down when he was struggling now regret their decisions. He said, "Some ladies left me because they didn't believe in me. They just didn't see light on the path I was threading. But I went all out for my career. Some of the ladies are regretting now, even though I'm not still big. I have been able to get here through the prayers of my family and people such as Koffi the Guru and comedian, Woli Arole, who helped me and touched my life in different ways.''

Eedris Abdulkareem, Tana Adelana, Anita Joseph Speak On R*Pe Allegations In Entertainment Industry

Posted: 05 Jul 2020 10:00 PM PDT

The last few weeks has thrown the Nigerian entertainment in the spotlight of rape and sexual allegations. To this end, a number of notable entertainers including D'banj, Peruzzi, Lancelot Imasuen, Victor Okpala, and Brymo, have been called out in the resurgence of rape allegations in the Nigerian entertainment scene.

The Nation reached out to four celebrities from the music and film industries to get their reactions to the varied rape allegations rocking the industry.

From Eedris Abdulkareem to Tana Adelana, Anita Joseph and Tope Tedela, the entertainers had so much to say on rape.

Tana Adelana

It's appalling to say the least, that at times like this, women are still taken advantage of, whether in or out of the entertainment industry. I have read quite a number of rape cases and I am saddened that "role models" have belittled themselves in such manner and allowed a few moments of pleasure ruin another's life and soil their names for life. Fortunately, I was never been involved in such situations but I completely frown at it. That a young girl is upcoming isn't a license to proposition them, that some may seem desperate isn't a lead to take advantage of them, that some may need to hone their craft a bit more is not a guise to deceive them into having sexual relations with you. I may not have been involved directly in sexual harassment situations but every case I hear of, touches me in ways I cannot explain and that makes me angry. This isn't the future promised to our young girls, our daughters, sisters, friends.

Apparently, it's not a "current" state, it has been this way for a long time, we are only getting to know about these stories now as recently, women have been given the opportunity and the much needed support to speak their truth. I believe there'll be a complete overhaul very soon. I know for a fact that the different bodies controlling the different facets of the entertainment industry are working tirelessly to curb this menace and ensure that culprits are brought to book.

Eedris AbdulKareem

Well, life is for the living, and the living must be conscious of the things he or she does, because what goes around, comes around. There's a time tested African adage that states that "a day cometh when whatever is done in the dark will surely become known", and this maxim, as far as I am concerned, should be enough to dissuade anyone from getting into crime of any shade whatsoever. But having said that, I am not sure if anything concrete have been proven in the cases I have heard of; it suffices that I stand for the innocent to be proven as such and acquitted of all the charges, while the guilty must be made to pay the full dose of penalty as prescribed by the laws of the land.

I have never been involved in things like that. People that are very close to me will even tell you that I am celibate outside my home. My family is everything to me and my wife is simply a one in a million woman; so, I am content."

Tope Tedela

The raging rape allegations are probably an indications that the culture of silence in victims of rape and sexual harassment is gradually being broken, but the malaise is far from uprooted. However, there have been reported cases of false allegations and this is like making a mockery of the fight against rape. No, I haven't.

Anita Joseph

I do hope they get the justice they deserve. Rape is a no no,no, I say no to rape! No I have not had that experience.

Here is all you need about 'Ìfé', a lesbian love story directed by Uyai Ikpe-Etim

Post-production is well underway for 'Ìfé', a peculiar love story about queer love amid prejudice.

Post-production is well underway for 'Ìfé', a peculiar love story about queer love amid prejudice.

Pulse recently had a brief chat with the film's producer, Pamela Adie and director, Uyai Ikpe-Etim on the upcoming film.

Starring Uzoamaka Aniunoh and Cindy Amadi, 'Ìfé' tells the tale of two women who fall in love over a 3-day date but struggle with the realities of same sex love in a country overridden by sanctimony and hypocrisy.

For director/writer, Uyai Ikpe-Etim, Nollywood still struggles to come to terms with properly representing LGBTQ people and 'Ìfé' seeks to change this narrative.

"As a film director and storyteller, I understand how storytelling can be used positively or negatively. I'm always concerned with how stories can be used to build up or to destroy", said Ikpe-Etim.

"I wanted to create something that would restore the dignity of LGBT+ people in Nigeria. Something they could be proud of. I wanted them to see themselves represented as regular humans who fall in love, who have their hearts broken, who break hearts, who love their families etc. Just regular people, who exist, who matter and who deserve to have their stories told. We are pretty much saying with this film, "we are queer, we are here and we are proud".

Besides demanding a change in Nollywood's LGBTQ narrative, amplifying the voices of lesbian bisexual and queer women in Nigeria is Pamela Adie's life long dream which she pushes through her nonprofit organization, Equality Hub.

"We chose to make this film because of the dearth (if any at all) of stories centered on the realities of lesbian, bisexual and queer women in Nigeria. LBQ women are mostly portrayed as people to be assaulted, or the object of the male gaze and gratification, and even ridiculed.

We have been portrayed as people to be feared "cured", "treated",etc., and it is time for this to change. We are taking our power back and and telling our stories by ourselves. We wanted to show Nigerians a little part of our lived realities and what it means to be lesbian in Nigeria".

The film's official trailer drops July 15 ahead of its release billed for later this year.

Alleged rape: D'banj sues accuser for N1.5B

Posted: 05 Jul 2020 08:00 AM PDT

Nigerian music star, Oladapo Oyebanjo also known as D'banj has sued his rape accuser, Seyitan Babatayo for N1.5B.

The music star also demands that Seyitan Babatayo writes an unreserved apology over her tweets.

In a letter released through his lawyer, Mike Ozekhome Chambers, Babatayo has been asked to pay D'banj N1.5B.

This is the breakdown of what the money will be paid for;

N1 billion is being demanded in damages "over the untold embarrassment, derision, public ridicule, odium, obloquy, marital disharmony, mental agony and psychological trauma which the Defendants' tweets and publication have caused the claimant."

While N500M will be for "aggravated, punitive, and exemplary damages."

The suit also demanded that Seyitan writes D'banj "a letter of unreserved apology for the offensive tweets and posts".

This is coming on the heels of the complaint Babatayo had filed against the music star where she accused him of arresting and holding her captive.

Ms Babatayo on Wednesday, June 3, 2020, first accused D'banj of raping her in a hotel room in December 2018.

D'banj had come out to deny the accusation and demanded apology and N100M in damages while there were reports that he used the police to try and bully Babatayo.

How Hushpuppi’s associate, Woodberry, chatted with an FBI agent but didn’t know

Posted: 05 Jul 2020 05:00 AM PDT

Olalekan Jacob Ponle, 29, aka Woodberry, who allegedly orchestrated an international cyber fraud scheme targeting several U.S.-based companies has been charged in U.S. District Court in Chicago with conspiracy to commit wire fraud.

Hushpuppi's associate, Woodberry, chatted with an FBI agent without knowing

The schemes resulted in attempted or actual losses to victim companies in the tens of millions of dollars, including a Chicago-based company that was defrauded into sending wire transfers totaling $15.2 million, the complaint states.

Ponle made an initial court appearance this morning in Chicago. U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeffrey T. Gilbert set a detention hearing for July 9, 2020, at 4:00 p.m.

The complaint describes several instances in which one or more unknown subjects gained unauthorized access to a U.S.-based company's email account and sent messages to unwitting employees claiming to be from the company or a known business contact.

The emails were nearly identical to prior legitimate emails sent over the company's email account, but the fraudulent emails instructed victims to wire funds to a bank account that was set up by money mules at the direction of Ponle, the complaint states.

Ponle then instructed the mules to convert the fraud proceeds to Bitcoin and send them to a virtual wallet that Ponle owned and operated, the complaint states.

In addition to the Chicago-based companies, other victims included companies based in Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, New York, and California, the complaint states.

Conspiracy to commit wire fraud is punishable by up to 20 years in federal prison. If convicted, the Court must impose a reasonable sentence under federal sentencing statutes and the advisory U.S. Sentencing Guidelines.

Regina Daniels – “Ned Nwoko looked like a farmer when we met”

Nollywood actress and latest mum in town, Regina Daniels Nwoko has made more revelations about her marriage to Ned Nwoko.

She made these novel revelations in a recent interview with Saturday Beats.

Speaking during the interview, Daniels-Nwoko opened up about her pregnancy experience, saying she didn't face any challenges.

In her words, "Before I got pregnant, people said pregnancy was hard; and the journey wasn't easy. As a matter of fact, I heard so much. But I am still very young and it was more like living my normal life. I didn't even have morning sickness and I didn't face any challenges of any kind. It was pretty normal for me."

Recalling her first impression when she met her husband, the actress said, "Being married to him (Ned Nwoko), I feel free. I can do whatever I want, dress however I like and live my life.

"He is always pushing me to be a better person. He brings me out there because he wants me to be more exposed. He wants me to see the world in a different way. As a matter of fact, there are so many things I just can't start to explain.
"The first impression I had when I met him, which I will keep saying is that he looked like a farmer. We actually went on a tour to his house in the village (Aniocha North Local Government Area, Delta State) and he was so polite and educative.

"He wants one to know about nature and the world in general. He wants one to experience different things, so he was always trying to educate us on that particular visit."

Over 10 days after the arrest of the alleged fraudster, the Dubai police released a footage that captured the operation dubbed 'Fox Hunt 2' that led to the arrests.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) director, Christopher Wray, has extended his appreciation to the government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), represented by the Dubai Police General HQ, for the concerted efforts in arresting alleged fraudsters.

The fresh allegation is contained in an affidavit according to Special Agent, Andre Innocenti, who is in charge of the Los Angeles Filed Office High-tech Organise Crime Squad.

Don Jazzy: I Don’t Mind Marrying All The Women I’m In Love With

Top Nigerian music producer and owner of Mavin Records, Don Jazzy, remains one of the most eligible bachelors in Nigeria.

Just recently, the producer decided to tease his followers after he posted a photo on his Instagram page and wrote;

"I'm in love with plenty women, I no mind marry all of them."

See post below;

Early last year, the ace producer in an exclusive telephone chat with Saturday Beats, noted that though he is not in a hurry to get married.

He said, "I don't bring up issues about my relationship status on purpose. People always talk about it.

"It is not difficult to find a wife; there are many beautiful women out there. It is not like I am ready; I am not the perfect version of what I would like to be to my wife and family.

"I want to work on myself until I am ready. By the time I am ready, if someone still wants to be with me, that would be great.

"It is not like I am looking for a wife and cannot find one. There are lots of nice and beautiful ladies out there. I don't think I am there yet. I am not in a hurry.

"If time passes and nobody wants to marry me, then so be it but for now, I don't feel I have worked on myself enough.

"I don't want a scenario where I would get married and my music or business would take me away and the next thing would be that my wife would start complaining that I am hardly around. Then people would start saying he doesn't care about his family. I don't need that type of talk in my life.

"Let me be on my own, whenever I am ready, I am ready. I have a girlfriend; I have had different girlfriends in the last 10 years. I can't just be single; I never said I was celibate. The relationship can break, she can leave me and go, and it is possible.

"My other ex-girlfriends left me, they didn't break my heart, they just moved on, some of them are married now, if they were still waiting for me, they won't be married by now.

"People have their personal agendas and it is understandable. For me, I am not in a hurry."

Actress, Inem Peter – "As a Calabar Girl, Men Want Me To Be Their Porn Star"

Posted: 05 Jul 2020 01:30 AM PDT

For beautiful and fair-complexioned actress, Inem Peter, known for her sexy photos on Instagram, Calabar girls are not only good in bed; they are also fantastic cooks.

According to the screen diva, she's disappointed at how men perceive her whenever she introduces herself at functions.

"Each time I say I am a Calabar girl, most men want me to cook for them or be their personal porn star. It is very annoying. I am tired of hearing that a Calabar girl is only good in bed and kitchen. When you tell someone where you come from and the only thing they think about is sex and kitchen, it is annoying. All I know is aside the fact that we are loving, hardworking and intelligent, Calabar or Akwa Ibom girls are specially created. They are blessed, they take good care of their man more than any other tribe," she told Inside Nollywood.

Speaking on her new movie, Colours of Deceit, which is about to hit Africa Magic channel, the curvy actress says it is an original and different story.

"I have experienced deceit but it's not something I want to talk more about, as it has to do with my past relationship. Trust me, men are very deceitful. The movie is star-studded. It wasn't easy at all but God got me. He gave me the perfect cast and crew. I even had an accident while making the movie but I didn't stop, everyone encouraged and supported me. We pulled through and everything came out 101%."

Anita Joseph Reveals What Her Husband Does To Her At ‘Every Corner Of The House’

Posted: 05 Jul 2020 01:00 AM PDT

Newly married actress, Anita Joseph Olagunju, has counseled ladies on the need to marry men that will put them in the mood at all times.

The movie star cum entrepreneur, however, cautions married women not to let their guards down immediately after marriage.

"There is need to marry the man that whenever you see him, you're in the mood. Marry the man that you are sexually attracted to. Marry your paddy. I can't stop wearing bum shorts because I am married. What is outside is scary.

"So, be wise and protect your home. Be sweet and tantalizing for your husband. Even if you have kids, don't stop dressing hot and sexy. Shave your armpit, clean up. If not, the man would run away.

"Be hotter than that chic outside. Don't allow those small girls steal your man. We hear men would always cheat despite all, but at least, do your part," she advised.

Speaking further, the thespian revealed how her husband, Michael Fisayo Olagunju, grabs her at every corner of their house.

"You need to see me in the kitchen, my husband grabs me everywhere." She disclosed. "That you are married with kids doesn't mean you shouldn't do shakara, this is the time to do shakara. Why are you tying wrapper?

"Your husband needs to see how you were when you both met. I know some things might have changed, but keep up. Don't be like a mad woman, take care of yourself."
