#Repost @unicef ・・・ Welcome to the world, Daisy Dove Bloom! We are honoured to introduce Goodwill Ambassadors @KatyPerry and @OrlandoBloom's new bundle of joy.⠀ ⠀ "We are floating with love and wonder from the safe and healthy arrival of our daughter," Katy and Orlando told us.⠀ ⠀ "But we know we're the lucky ones and not everyone can have a birthing experience as peaceful as ours was. Communities around the world are still experiencing a shortage of healthcare workers and every eleven seconds a pregnant woman or newborn dies, mostly from preventable causes. Since COVID-19 many more newborn lives are at risk because of the increased lack of access to water, soap, vaccines and medicines that prevent diseases. As parents to a newborn, this breaks our hearts, as we empathize with struggling parents now more than ever.⠀ ⠀ "As UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors, we know UNICEF is there, on the ground, doing whatever it takes to make sure every expecting mother has access to a trained health worker and access to quality healthcare. In celebration of the heart we know our daughter already has, we have set up a donation page to celebrate DDB's arrival. By supporting them, you are supporting a safe start to life and reimagining a healthier world for every child. We hope your ♥️ can bloom with generosity.⠀ ⠀ Gratefully-⠀ ⠀ Katy & Orlando."⠀ ⠀ Please tap the link in our bio to support the most precious gift: a healthy child.

Tiwa Savage speaks about her upcoming album, 'Celia' and making 'Tempation' with Sam Smith

Posted: 29 Aug 2020 12:00 AM PDT

On August 25, 2020, Nigerian superstar, Tiwa Savage spoke with Zane Lowe on Apple Music to chat about her New Song 'Temptation' featuring Sam Smith. She also talks about how the collaboration came to be, the growth of the Afrobeat genre, the music coming out of Africa, and more.

The album is the result of three writing camps in Lagos, London and Los Angeles, California, US respectively. A virtual listening session was held by Universal Music on August 26, 2020.

On collaborating with Sam Smithn, Savage said, "When I walked in, because we had a recording session with... We had nine rooms in a hotel and I had different pieces of writing, and I walked into this particular room and I heard this record, and I heard the chorus, and I was just like, "This song is so special." I sat with it for days just trying to get the perfect topline."

"And we did everything, and my label and are like, "Which songs do you want to do a feature on?" And I said, "There is this one song that I hear an artist on," and they were like, "Who is it?" I'm like, "I hear Sam Smith."

"But I know that's never going to happen. So, that's it. We just walked away from it. I promise you, I wasn't even thinking that anything was going to happen. Literally, I think maybe six months later, my manager calls me and my manager's like, "Sam is going to do the record." I said, "Sam who? What are you talking about?"

"Even still, I was just like, no, this is impossible. Five days later, she calls me and she pulls a Khaled on me. She says, "The vocals are in." I opened my email, I heard it, and I literally had goosebumps, because we don't know how amazing Sam is.

"I was like, wow, this is incredible. And it just changed the whole face of the project. Do you know what I mean? Because this is really happening for afrobeat, not even just with Tiwa."

On Afro-pop, she enthused, "I'm so grateful, not just for that record, but what this means for my genre and the movement that we're pushing.I was having this conversation with my mom the other day, and I said to her, when she moved me to London, I was bullied so much for being African. I used to try and change my accent, and pretend like I wasn't African. And it wasn't cool.

"And now being African is one of the coolest things, and afrobeat is the fastest growing genre. And for me, it's a blessing to live and witness both, to see how it went from not being cool, to being one of the most sought after genres. And not just that, the music is shining a different light on the continent. Africa, we have to rewrite our story.

"I think it's been written in so many different ways. And so many people have the wrong impression of Africa. And now having huge legends like Beyonce doing a movement such as Black is King, and shining just a different light on my continent, it's just amazing."

Yesterday, August 26, 2020, a virtual listening session for her album, Celia was held via virtual communication. The album is the result of three writing camps in Lagos, London and Los Angeles, California, US respectively. The 12-track album is named after Savage's mother and it sees Savage discuss some personal topics.

A song on it also discusses her failed marriage to Tunji 'Teebillz' Balogun. Two stand out songs from the album are 'Celia's Song' and 'Bombay' featuring Stefflon Don.

However, the pressure of the pandemic after it started took its toll on her and she collapsed twice.

She said: "I went to England before the whole pandemic started, I had health challenges. I had to do a surgery. I was here (in England) trying to recuperate to get my health back. So, I have been in England. And it has not been easy because, with my health challenges and the pressure of the pandemic, I started feeling somehow, and I collapsed twice during this pandemic."

The actress said that it was a scary experience because the doctors were trying to determine if she had coronavirus. It was later discovered that she did not have the virus but that she collapsed because of her mental health.

Ibinabo also added that she had to pick herself back up and focus of the Miss Earth pageant. In her words: "It was quite scary and the ambulance came, rushed me to the hospital. They were trying to check if it was Covid-19 or not. They later discovered that it was not Covid-19, just my mental state. Everything crashed at a point, but thank God, I started with the Miss Earth event again and started picking up myself. I started looking forward to something.

I wasn't panicking anymore. I lost quite a few persons close to me here in England to the Covid-19, and that really broke me and then again, my friends in Nigeria, I lost a few, not to Covid-19 this time round, but other things and they were close to me.

So, I think all that badly affected me. But thank God I am picking up again, preparing the new queen for her journey because the Miss Earth is virtual again for the global. So, there is so much work to do now. I am busy again preparing that."

Hushpuppi arraigned in California, trial set to begin

Posted: 28 Aug 2020 03:30 AM PDT

Alleged internet fraudster, Ramon Abbas, "Hushpuppi", has been arraigned in an American court in California as his trial begins on October 13.

Hushpuppi pleaded not guilty to the four-count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, money laundering conspiracies, international money laundering and engaging in monetary transactions in property derived from specified unlawful activity.

In June, the 37-year-old known for flaunting an opulent lifestyle on social media, was arrested in Dubai by special operatives of the Emerati police and American Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

In July, Hushpuppi alongside Olalekan Ponle, popularly known as Woodberry, was extradited to Chicago in the United States where he was first arraigned.

However, because the U.S. Court in Illinois does not have jurisdiction over the case, he was transferred to Los Angeles, a city in California.

Since his transfer to California late July, he has been held in the custody of the U.S. Marshal in a federal prison.

Meanwhile, the prosecutor kickstarted the process of arraignment by filling necessary documents and forms after his first appearance on August 17.

After the pre-trial services, Hushpuppi entered a plea, insisting that he is not guilty of the charges.

In the documents obtained, he agreed to go to trial with his lawyer, Vicki Podberesky, a top-rated lawyer in California.

Mrs Podberesky will be assisted by Gal Pissetzky, a Chicago-based lawyer appearing pro hac vice because he is not licensed to practise outside Chicago.

Nevertheless, he has pleaded that he should be prosecuted with complaint and not indictment. This he did by filing a waiver of indictment accepted by the court.
