Williams Uchemba Advises #EndSARS Protesters On Why The Campaign Needs Leadership

Posted: 20 Oct 2020 10:30 PM PDT

Nigerian movie personality, Williams Uchemba has given scholarly advice on why #EndSARS campaign needs a leadership structure.

The actor who doubles as a comedian disclosed this in a recent post on his official Instagram page.

According to him, anything without leadership will die and fizzle out, adding that, if the protesters fail to select a leader, the movement will be hijacked.

Writing further, he stated that a leadership structure in the #EndSARS protest would ensure there is focus, strategy, negotiations, execution and evaluation.

He wrote, "Anything without leadership will die and fizzle out. It might have began organically but it needs leadership for focus, strategy, negotiations, execution and evaluation.

If we get carried away with our emotions and not put a proper leadership structure in place, this movement will be hijacked and when that happens, we have no only failed our generation but might not be given a golden opportunity such as this, to change our nation for good anytime soon."

Security Operatives open fire at peaceful #EndSARS protesters in Lekki Toll gate

Posted: 20 Oct 2020 03:42 PM PDT

At least not fewer than seven people have been reported dead, by eyewitnesses, and countless others injured after security operatives attempted to disperse peaceful #EndSARS protesters at the Lekki-Epe toll gate on Tuesday, October 20, 2020.

As part of nationwide demonstrations, hundreds of protesters had shut down the lucrative toll gate for over one week demanding comprehensive police reform.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, imposed a 24-hour curfew on Tuesday afternoon after an uptick of violence from thugs who tried to hijack the peaceful protests.

Scores of protesters refused to leave the toll gate despite the curfew which was originally set to commence at 4 pm, but has now been extended to 9 pm.

Eyewitnesses at the toll gate who live streamed reported numerous gunshot injuries sustained by peaceful protesters.

Gun shots could also be heard going off non-stop in the live streamed videos.

One of the protesters on the scene reported that he had seen the corpses of seven people in the chaos that ensued on Tuesday night.

A couple of men who claimed to be government officials had been pictured earlier on Tuesday reportedly removing security cameras at the toll gate.

Toke Makinwa condemns Lagos State Governor, Sanwo-Olu over curfew announcement

Posted: 20 Oct 2020 03:44 PM PDT

Popular TV anchor, Toke Makinwa has criticized the Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-olu over the timing of the imposed curfew.

The governor had imposed a curfew on the state starting by 4 pm today, 20th of October as a measure to curb the hijacked peaceful #Endsars protest in the state that has led to the loss of lives and properties.

In reaction, Toke Makinwa dragged Sanwo-olu for being insensitive about the timing of the curfew that is to start by 4 pm while people are out in their different works of life.

Tackling the timing on Twitter, the media personality wrote;

"The government, the sick system, how can you announce a curfew when people are already out? What happens to those who can't get home before 4? You'll give power back to the police we are fighting against? Make it make sense #EndSARS"

Google now allows you find the name of a song by humming and whistling

Posted: 20 Oct 2020 09:00 AM PDT

Google has introduced a new feature that allows you to identify a song even if you don't know the lyrics.

You can now hum, sing or whistle the tune into your phone and the name of the song will come up.

The technology to match tones to a database of identified songs through singing, humming and whistling — instead of from lyrics alone — has existed for more than a decade, and was a staple in the music app SoundHound as far back as 2009.

To start using Google's new feature, open the latest version of the Google app or Google Search widget on your phone, then, tap the Microphone icon and say "what's this song?" You can also tap the Search a song button. Finally, start humming, singing or whistling the tune to get your results.

Google announced the new feature on Thursday, October 15, and has started rolling it out globally to iPhone and Android users. It's currently available in English for iPhone users and in more than 20 languages on Android.

This new tool only works on mobile devices, so at this time, it won't work on your Google Home or Nest speakers.

Posted: 20 Oct 2020 07:00 AM PDT

Cardi B has been forced to delete her Twitter account after receiving backlash from fans for reconciling with her husband, Offset, weeks after filing for divorce.

During an Instagram Live session on Saturday, October 17, the rapper said she deleted her account after getting tired of tweets from fans who were criticizing her and harassing Offset after they reconciled.

"A whole bunch of 15-year-olds telling me how to live my life like I'm mother—-ing Ariana Grande or something," the mother of one said in the video, "like I came from Disney or something."

"I'm so tired that because of y'all I've gotta continuously explain myself," said Cardi, who recently reconciled with Offset after filing for divorce. "I didn't put my divorce out there, a f—ing court clerk put it out there. And because people are making rumors up, 'Oh, this guy has a girl pregnant,' this and that, I have to address it."

"I'm so tired that because of y'all I've gotta continuously explain myself," she continued.

"I didn't put my divorce out there, a fucking court clerk put it out there. And because people are making rumours up, 'Oh, this guy has a girl pregnant,' this and that, I have to address it."

Cardi then complained about online harassment she claimed Offset has been receiving since they got back together.

"You guys want to be harassing this n****. Bro, if I work things out, why are you going to this n****'s Twitter to harass him? That shit don't make no fucking sense," she said, going on to point out that this behaviour was coming from her "fans".

"I'm tired of it," she said. "I do whatever the fuck I want to do. Like I love my fans and I'm grateful and thankful for what you do but some of y'all really be acting like I be sleeping with y'all."

"Offset is not the only fucking problem that I deal with," she said. "To be honest with you, my marriage is one of the least worries that I have right now."

The "WAP" rapper also discussed her personal choice to smoke after fans accused Offset of influencing her.

"I smoke a cigarette… 'Oh my God… You smoking a cigarette because of Offset, you're stressed,'" she said of people's comments. "Bro, when I was a stripper I used to smoke cigarettes every day. I been smoking cigarettes since I was 15. I started smoking cigarettes because I'm bored and I was drinking on my birthday. I'm not an avid smoker, I don't really smoke so stop."

In September, Cardi filed for divorce from Offset in Fulton County, Ga, describing her marriage as "irretrievably broken" and that "there are no prospects for a reconciliation."

At her 28th lavish birthday party which took place in Las Vegas last week, the pair we spotted partying together before she confirmed that they were back together.

Seun Kuti condemns the fight for increase in salary of police officers says “They should fight for themselves”

Posted: 20 Oct 2020 06:00 AM PDT

Seun Kuti, the youngest son of late Pan-Africanist Fela Kuti has opined that the #EndSARs 5-for-5 list of demands is "too weak."

The singer stated this in a live Instagram session while giving reasons for not lending his voice on the cause of the ongoing movement against police brutality.

"It is not the duty of Nigerians to fight for police to have better salary. If police don't like their salary and welfare, let them strike and protest. It's like we're fighting for police to live a better life," he said.

"Increasing police salary will not stop police corruption. If money dey stop corruption, why our politicians still dey thief?"

Seun went on to say that it appears the average Nigerian is fighting for the issue that affects them, which is police brutality because they want to freely drive their Benz without being harassed but they do not seem to care about the problems that affect poorer Nigerians.

SARS is not our only problem, he affirmed, adding that NURTW boys collect money from market women, okada riders, and bus drivers every day and no one is fighting for them.

The singer said a call to end the harassment poor Nigerians face from these NURTW boys who extort money from them needs to be included in the list of demands, instead of advocating for an increase in police salary.

"Everybody is being extorted at every level in this country every day," and which he concluded that #5for5 is "useless demands" and that no one can drag him to the current agitation because the demands are not serious enough..

Feminist Coalition reveals that #ENDSARS protest includes fight for LGBGTQ+ community

Posted: 20 Oct 2020 05:00 AM PDT

Feminist Coalition, a group of gender rights activists, says it is now expanding its campaign against police brutality to include a call to restore the dignity of homosexuals, transgender and other non-conformist groups in Nigeria.

"Our communal fight to #EndSARS is inclusive of the LGBGTQ+ community who are also harassed, assaulted and killed by police," the group said on Twitter Sunday evening. "They deserve the same justice we seek & even more so, as they are also a target of the law. You can't be what you fight against!"

LGBTQ+ is widely defined as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer and others.

The comments came days after Twitter's Jack Dorsey recognised the group as the face of the ongoing campaign to end police brutality in Nigeria. The police special anti-robbery squad, which sparked the movement, was abolished on October 11 amidst uproar.

But Nigerians have continued their agitation, demanding investigation of decades of rights abuses and compensation for victims.

On Sunday afternoon, Segun Awosanya, a rights activist who began the campaign to rid the country of police brutality in 2017, withdrew his participation in further protests, saying those leading it are becoming increasingly dangerous with an insurrection plot being introduced to the campaign.

Mr. Awosanya quickly criticised the coalition as shifting the goal post on Sunday evening, declaring their "agenda" as "dead on arrival."

#EndSARS: Adesua Etomi Wellington defends husband, Banky from man who said he is trying to divide the youths

Posted: 20 Oct 2020 03:00 AM PDT

Nigerian actress, Adesua Etomi has defended her husband, singer and politician, Banky W, from people saying he is a politician and is trying to use a divide and conquer strategy on the youths.

This is coming after a twitter user advised #EndSARS protesters to resist Banky W, as he has been sent to use divide and conquer strategy on the youths.

Adesua then jumped in, saying she will and cannot allow his name to be dragged in the mud, as he has marched, given food out in protests, cleaned the streets and more.

Read as she wrote on twitter;

"What you are doing is so wrong. The person you are talking about ran AGAINST the powers that be. To the detriment of his own income, his family and spoke out against these issues. Has always spoken out against these issues. What he posted, the youth that you see asked him to help

He contested under a party that wasn't known. Used his own income. Gave up endorsements to run. There are people that are good that will try to run for office and they should do it without being afraid that they will be targeted because they tried to run to make the system better\

We are here to fight for Nigeria and EVERYONE that wants the good of this nation should be allowed to fight for it. Trying to divide people and use someone as a scapegoat because you don't like a suggestion is WRONG. The government is the problem, not Banky.

He hasn't been sent to divide. He isn't working with any government and I will and cannot wait back and allow his name to be dragged in the mud. He has marched, given food out in protests, cleaned the streets and done it anonymously for the most part.

Please do not do this. We have a common enemy. We have a common goal and it is to #EndSARS
We all should really know better. God bless."
