Davido – It is painful that what started as a peaceful protest has been hijacked and turned into complete anarchy

Davido has spoken up against the hijacking of the #EndSARS protest to unleash mayhem across the country.

The singer who noted that turning of the peaceful protest into a complete anarchy is a disrespect to those that lost their lives in the struggle, wondered the gain in burning and looting private businesses.

He also wondered why police stations are burnt down when one of the demands of the protesters was better police welfare and training. Davido averred that we need a Country where there is law and order for us to make any real change.

The singer tweeted;

We need a Country where there is law and order for us to make any real change !!! Please stop!

It is painful that what started as a peaceful protest has been hijacked and turned into complete Anarchy, in total disrespect to those that lost their lives during the Peaceful protest. This is def not the way to honour those that lost their lives while protesting peacefully.

What is there to gain from burning and looting private businesses that provide employment to our own people?? Or burgling or burning houses belong to innocent citizens?! Or burning Buses that our own people depend on for transport to go to work and go about their lives???

Why burn police stations, when one of our demands was better police welfare and training??? Please stop stop stop stop! It all makes no sense whatsoever !! If you know anybody partaking in this, tell them to stop!!

#EndSARS: Williams Uchemba – Protests Lasted Too Long Actor

Posted: 27 Oct 2020 06:34 AM PDT

Actor, Williams Uchemba, has questioned celebrities and youths over their persistent demonstrations after the government acknowledged the demands of the protesters and proceeded to disband the dreaded Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

The protest in Lekki, Lagos State, which was notable for having many celebrities in attendance, took a bloody turn on Tuesday evening, with soldiers shooting no fewer than 15 protesters dead and injuring many others. The state government had announced a 24-hour curfew earlier that day, which was to take effect at 4pm, but was later moved to 9pm.

Uchemba told Sunday Scoop that while the protest had begun to derail, many stars were pressured into supporting the anti-police brutality movement by only posting content on social media that was relevant to the protest.

He said, "It is about control. That is why you have brakes in your car. It is to know when to stop or slow down, and when to accelerate. At a point, the protests got out of control. They started doing parties at the toll gate. We were all asking for the same thing – basic amenities.

"I know, constitutionally, you cannot use curfews to stop a protest. But maybe, we could have tried to work with the government just for that day. There was peer pressure on most of my colleagues. I know some of them that were pressurised to go out on the streets, even when the government had given us airtime. The pressure was more from the fans. "

The actor also noted that for the first time, government responded promptly to the public's demands. He added that due to attention it got, Nigerians were updated about every step that was taken. He said, "We had it at some point and I was telling people that the climax of the protest would have been the candlelight vigil. The next day should have been about strategy. It should have been about 'what is the next thing? Now, we have those people where we want them.'

"Because we already had that, we should have just not overshot. We should have waited for them to completely implement everything we were asking for regarding police brutality. They met us halfway on the #5for5 demands."

Many of you might not know this but I have had a personal experience with SARS. I had traveled to Lagos to shoot the video for Suzanna. After the shoot, I decided to listen to some Bangers in the club. BIG MISTAKE. On the way to the club, our vehicle was stopped by SARS. They forced us out of the cars and told us to lie on the ground. Being foreigners MZWA and I heavily prayed for our lives. All I heard was the sound of guns being cocked. I don't know where I would be if it wasn't for the few dollars I had in my pocket. That's one of my worst experiences with authority. I felt like a terrorist. Sad to see my blood turning against each other. I genuinely pray for all Nigerian youth who go through this every day.
