Blue Ivy Carter Becomes Youngest Grammy Awards Nominee In History

Posted: 27 Nov 2020 01:00 AM PST

At just 8 years old, Blue Ivy Carter has made history becoming the youngest nominee of the prestigious Grammy Awards for her contribution to "Brown Skin Girl."

This is coming after she made history at the BET Award earlier this year and became the youngest to win in the award show's history — for being featured on her mom Beyoncé's song "Brown Skin Girl" from The Lion King: The Gift soundtrack album.

Earlier today, the list of nominees for the 2021 Grammy Awards was released, and it saw Beyonce get the most features.

Her hit, Brown Skin Girl, was nominated in the 'Best Music Video' category, and Blue Ivy has made history as a result.

Despite being just a child, Blue Ivy has already established quite the recording career. She's appeared on her father, Jay-Z's songs "Glory" and "Family Feud," while also guesting on her mother's tracks "Daddy Lessons" and "Blue." She appeared with both of them on their joint project, The Carters, on "SALUD!" and "BOSS" as well.

Blue Ivy also featured in the video for "Spirit," another Beyoncé track from the Lion King. Beyoncé both appeared in the movie as Nala and also curated a soundtrack album called The Lion King: The Gift, which featured Jay-Z, Childish Gambino, Kendrick Lamar, and Tierra Whack.

The 8-year-old won the Her Award at the BET Awards for her contribution to "Brown Skin Girl," along with her mother Beyoncé, SAINt JHN, and WizKid.

The Her Award celebrates R&B and neo soul, having previously been won by Beyoncé in 2016 for "Formation." Beyoncé's sister—and Blue's aunt—Solange won the following year for "Cranes in the Sky."

Justin Bieber Complains About Grammy Nominations; Says His Album Is R&B Not Pop

Posted: 27 Nov 2020 12:30 AM PST

Canadian singer, Justin Bieber is grateful for his 2021 Grammy nominations but the singer thinks he was nominated in the wrong category.

The 26-year-old received four Grammy nominations on Tuesday including Best Pop Solo Performance for "Yummy," Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for "Intentions," Best Pop Vocal Album for Changes, and Best Country Duo/Group Performance for his "10,000 Hours" collab with Dan+ Shay.

As soon as the nomination list was put out, Bieber took to Instagram to issue a statement, where he shared his thought that 'Changes' was an R&B album and should have been recognized as such and not in the 'Pop category'

He wrote: "To the Grammys, I am flattered to be acknowledged and appreciated for my artistry," the post began, "I am very meticulous and intentional about my music. With that being said I set out to make an R&B album. Changes was and is an R&B album. It is not being acknowledged as an R&B album which is very strange to me."

"I grew up admiring R&B music and wished to make a project that would embody that sound. For this not to be put in that category feels weird considering from the chords to the melodies to the vocal style all the way down to the hip hop drums that were chosen it is undeniably, unmistakably an R&B Album!"

"To be clear I absolutely love pop music it just wasn't what I set out to make this time around. My gratitude for feeling respected for my work remains and I am honored to be nominated either way," he added.

"Please don't mistake this as me being ungrateful, these are just my thoughts take em or leave em," Bieber captioned his statement. "Thank you to the people who fought for me to even have any noms."

Cardi B Reveals The Real Reason “WAP” Wasn’t Nominated For A Grammy

Posted: 26 Nov 2020 11:30 PM PST

Amid the many reactions to the 2021 Grammy nominations, music lovers called the Recording Academy out for snubbing artists like The Weeknd and Brandy. Also fans noticed Cardi B's name was missing from the list of nominees, but the Bronx rapper confirmed she's the reason why.

The "Bodak Yellow" rapper took to Instagram Live following the announcement of the candidates for the 2021 Grammy Awards. She then explained to fans that she purposely didn't submit "WAP" for Grammy consideration, adding she doesn't want any of her music to be considered until her album is complete.

Cardi said: 'Stop playing with me. Like I said, I never pressed for a Grammy, but y'all are not gonna take away something that I know that I worked my ass off that I deserve.

Cardi said: 'Stop playing with me. Like I said, I never pressed for a Grammy, but y'all are not gonna take away something that I know that I worked my ass off that I deserve.

'If I was pressed for a Grammy I would have submitted WAP for this year. I didn't submit. I didn't want to be submitted to award shows until I put out my album because I think my album is so good, and it means something and I worked on it a lot. I've been working on it for almost two years.

'Some songs are so emotional to me because I did them during quarantine. I'm not pressed or nothing, I'm not gonna keep doing this s**t constantly because y'all are upset. Y'all cannot take my success.'

WAP proved to be controversial when it was released due to its explicit sexual lyrics.

Cardi has received a total of eight nominations since the start of her rap career. Last year, her debut album, Invasion of Privacy, took home the award for Best Rap Album.

Despite her decision not to submit "WAP," the song helped her win Favorite Rap/Hip Hop Song at the AMAs, making her the first artist in history to win the category twice.

Every year, the Grammy nominations are met with mixed reactions from those excited to receive Grammy nods and others who feel they were snubbed. Tuesday (Nov. 24) was no different.

Among the many people who thought they were robbed was Teyana Taylor who called the Grammy Awards out for failing to include women in the category for Best R&B Album.

"Y'all was better off just saying best MALE R&B ALBUM cause all I see is dick in this category," she wrote on Twitter.

Duncan Mighty Accused Of Assaulting A Tanker Driver In Port Harcourt

Posted: 26 Nov 2020 11:00 PM PST

A water tank driver, Okabam John in Port Harcourt, Rivers state has accused popular Nigerian singer, Duncan Mighty of assaulting him.

It was gathered that the incident reportedly happened on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at about 9:40am when the driver was on duty.

Narrating his ordeal to some Civil Rights Activists on Tuesday November 24, after he was allegedly discharged from the hospital, John, a native of Elele Town in Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state and an employee of Julius Berger Nigeria Limited, claimed that the musician struck him on the head with a traditional staff made of elephant tusk.

According to the driver, while on duty a private car was parked close to his water filling spot. He tried notifying the driver who refused to wind down. He reportedly bent his head to talk to the driver only to discover it was Duncan Mighty.

John said that before he could speak, the singer allegedly struck his head using a traditional staff. He said the second strike was blocked with his hand. He claimed that he could not see when the singer drove off as his eyes were covered with blood.

Confirming the incident on Tuesday, one Ndubueze Obodowhuo, accused Duncan Mighty of using his VIP status to intimidate his people. He also shared a 'medical report' stating that John was treated for "shoulder dislocation and scalp laceration."

Mr John is now calling on his employer, the management of Julius Berger, Security Agencies and Human Rights Organisations to help him get justice. His post below:

"This is Mr. OKABAM JOHN a native of Elele town in Ikwerre LGA of Rivers State, he's currently employed by JULIUS BERGER NIG.PLC in Port Harcourt  and his service engagement is within Judges quarters elelenwo-street, GRA Port Harcourt.

"According to Mr. OKABAM JOHN a Water-tank driver with Julius Berger, Tanker number – B8751, On Saturday 21st of November 2020 at about 9:40am while he was on duty. "Before he could explain, his head was struck by Duncan mighty using a traditional staff(Elephant tusk), the second strike was blocked with his hand. He(Okabam John) didn't see how the artist drove off because, blood covered his eyes at that moment.

"Mr. Okabam John narrated this incident after being discharged from the hospital. Duncan doesn't show up when he's publicly needed, rather he uses his VIP influence to undo his people. "Mr. OKABAM JOHN is calling on the management of Julius Berger, Security Agents and Human Rights Organisations for justice to be done in his case, to avoid a re-occurance."

Toke Makinwa slams Reno Omokri for his post shading ‘divorcee slay queens’

Posted: 26 Nov 2020 08:00 AM PST

Toke Makinwa has slammed Reno Omokri for his post shading 'divorced women and slay queens".

On Monday, November 23, Reno shared a post on his Twitter handle where he threw jabs at "divorced women " and "slay queens" by using throwback photos of former first lady, late Mrs Maryam Babangida. See below

Toke felt the jab was directed at her and has taken to her Twitter handle to slam him.

Describing Reno as an 'embarrassment", the media personality pointed out that being divorced is nothing to shame anyone about. Read her post below

"Wow, at your age? Your wife and kids must be cringing for you, such an embarrassment. "Divorced" is nothing to shame anyone for, life happens. People like you are the reasons why a lot of people stay in unhealthy situations and lose their dignity and In some cases their lives.

You can celebrate a version of beauty without putting another down, you don't have to meddle in women's business too. If you have a daughter I hope she gets the courage to never deal with a man as uncouth as you, stop with the misogyny.

I don't care about shots intended my way, what I do care about is the group of women you singlehandedly insulted with your "Divorcee" comment, to divorce is not a crime, every divorced person has survived something and sometimes getting a divorce is the only option they have

Enough with the divorce shaming of Anyone, I don't see a divorced man being shamed for living his life after his failed marriage, people like that clown are probably in unhealthy marriages too. God forbid I marry a man who tweets that kind of garbage, sighhh.

Everyone has a divorced person that they know, it can happen to anyone, that we divorced and alive should be encouraged, people are dying each day living in unhealthy situations and while I'm not advocating for divorce, if leaving is what you need to do, do it in peace.

You cannot survive a bad marriage, survive a mental breakdown and then now have to deal with judgement from people who have not walked a mile in your shoes, it should not be encouraged. Someone's journey does not have to be your cup of tea, that's ok but you must respect it.

Dragging my divorced slay queen naked ass back to my holiday and waking up to the most beautiful view. In my bed and outside my room. Love and light xx" Toke tweeted

OAP Toolz recounts how she and her husband and almost everyone in their home tested positive for COVID19

Posted: 26 Nov 2020 03:30 AM PST

OAP Tolu Demuren aka Toolz took to her Twitter handle to reveal that she, her hubby, Captain Tunde Demuren, and almost everyone in their home recently tested positive for the novel Coronavirus.

In a Twitter thread, Toolz revealed that her greatest worries were her children who were fortunately not affected by the virus. Thankfully, she, her hubby, and everyone else have been retested after they were treated and the new test results came back negative.

Her tweets read

"Feeling super thankful to God today! This time last month, we were going through a very scary period! Almost everyone in our house (including myself) tested positive for Covid-19.

I was just about to return to work after my maternity, and it all started with Captain complaining of 'malaria-like' symptoms. He had them for a few days, and didn't seem to get any better…so we ended up taking him to hospital.

He had taken a Covid-19 test a few days before which was negative, so I thought it was a bad case of malaria. He was admitted with malaria and a bacterial infection we were told. After being given intravenous antibiotics and other meds he still wasn't getting better.

I decided to move him to a different hospital, and they tested again, and he 'blew up' the test according to the doctor. My body went cold, and my first thought was 'OMG the babies!!'. Then a short while later, I thought about myself. I did a rapid test, and it was positive.

Neither of us initially had the common symptoms- no coughing, no breathing issues…although I later lost my smell and taste. Captain was in hospital for a week and this was around the time of the Lekki shooting, so I was doubly terrified.

My main fear was the babies…especially our youngest son as he was just about 3 months old. We didn't test them, but I was certain they had Covid too as we literally kiss and cuddle our boys every day. The doctor assured us that they wouldn't be affected.

Thank God the doctor was right, other than a sneeze here & there, our babies were perfectly fine. I was generally ok too, just scared. Once you get that positive result, you get all these random symptoms you didn't have before. My back would hurt…I'd be like hmmm corona oo

The weirdest thing was the taste and smell thing. Everything Captain had tasted bad, he's a foodie so that was strange. One of my super powers is my sense of smell…and it just gradually faded. I actually put a bottle of bleach under my nose one day and…nothing.

I kept waiting to fall ill, and it didn't happen. I started thinking I had indaboski blood, but then I had 2 days where I felt like I had the worst hangover in the world, then there was some fatigue, but I was generally ok.

Captain on the other hand felt super rundown, couldn't keep food down, had cramping all over and a bunch of other symptoms. After a week, he came back home, and we finished our isolation period together.

After 2 weeks we all retested and were all thankfully Negative. Thanks to Almighty God for seeing us through, a big thank you to the doctors that looked after us… especially Dr Majekodunmi of Eurocare for the constant reassurance, and for taking my a million and one calls

I'm super thankful I didn't get it while I was pregnant. Imagine I travelled to have my baby, came back, did a 7 covid tests, and it was the 8th that was positive. The craziest thing was that a week before I legit told someone that there's Covid in Lagos anymore. Silly me"

Nigeria’s Aisha Yesufu, Uyaiedu Ipke-Etim make it to BBC 100 Women 2020 list

Posted: 26 Nov 2020 03:00 AM PST

The BBC has revealed its list of 100 inspiring and influential women from around the world for 2020 and Aisha Yesufu and Uyaiedu Ipke-Etim made it to the list.

This year's 100 Women is highlighting those who are leading change and making a difference during these turbulent times.

The list includes UK nurse, Professor Dame Elizabeth Anionwu, who is of Nigerian descent.
She is an emeritus professor of nursing at the University of West London and a patron of the UK Sickle Cell Society.

She is a groundbreaking sickle-cell and thalassemia nurse who campaigned for a statue of British-Jamaican nurse Mary Seacole. She's been a key figure in highlighting the disproportionate impact of Covid-19 on BAME communities.

Uyaiedu Ipke-Etim, a Nigerian feminist film-maker, director and LGBTQ+ activist, who has committed herself to creating stories about marginalised groups in Nigeria, also made it to the list.

Her film If??, which means "love" in Yoruba, tells the story of two Nigerian lesbians navigating the harsh, homophobic realities of Nigeria. Following the announcement of the film's impending release, it has faced state censorship in Nigeria.

Aisha Yesufu, a Nigerian activist demanding good governance in Nigeria, also made it to the list.

Others on the list are: four-time Grammy award winner Angélique Kidjo, who advocates on behalf of children as a Unicef ambassador, Sanna Marin, who leads Finland's all-female coalition government, Michelle Yeoh, star of the new Avatar and Marvel films and Sarah Gilbert, who heads the Oxford University research into a coronavirus vaccine, as well as Jane Fonda, a climate activist and actress.

And in an extraordinary year – when countless women around the world have made sacrifices to help others – one name on the 100 Women list has been left blank as a tribute.

UK Lawmaker – Yakubu Gowon looted ‘half’ of Nigeria’s central bank and moved to London

Posted: 26 Nov 2020 01:30 AM PST

A member of the United Kingdom Parliament on Monday said former Nigerian leader Yakubu Gowon fleeced the country for half of what its central bank was worth before relocating to London.

Tom Tugendhat, chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee representing Tonbridge and Malling, said it was time to start sanctioning those responsible for Nigeria's endemic theft and poverty.

"It is a tragedy that we are all witnessing. The pressure this time is not foreign colonialism, the pressure instead is corruption, violence and attempts to control.

"We need to call out corruption. We need to use powers we have in this country to stop those who are profiting.

"Some people would remember when General Gowon left Nigeria with half of the central bank, or so it was said, and moved to London," Mr. Tugendhat said on the floor of the parliament Monday.

UK parliamentarians debated a petition on Monday over the brutal crackdown of Nigerian Army on #EndSARS protesters.

The lawmakers agreed that members of President Muhammadu Buhari and the military should be targeted for economic deprivation and also prevented from entering the UK.
