Interviewed by Ghanaian-British fashion editor for Vogue, Edward Enninful, Beyoncé disclosed that the planning of her visual album started from her backyard with plans to shoot only two videos for "The Gift" album but ended up travelling to Africa to do more.

American singer and songwriter Beyoncé has opened up about how she tackled the year 2020 and how she put together "Black is King" visual album in the latest British Vogue issue.

"It started out simple, in my backyard," she said. "I wanted to do one or two videos for The Gift album, then it just grew. Before we knew it, we were shooting in Nigeria, Ghana, London, Los Angeles, Johannesburg, and KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, where we filmed with the women of the Himba tribe."

"It took an incredible group of creatives from all around the world, and so many of us were of African descent, telling a part of our own family's story and its hidden history. Black Is King was a huge production that employed a large number of brilliant artists who may not typically see themselves working on a Disney project. Until now!"

When asked how she sees herself and her work in relation to the global black community, she gave a shout-out to Ghana and credited dancehall star Shatta Wale and dancer Dancegod Lloyd for their works on the song "Already" off the album.

"Shout out to Ghana! We shot there for the "Already" video. We worked with Shatta Wale and the choreographer Dancegod Lloyd. I am doing what my family has always done in celebrating and uplifting the black community."

She also opened up about her humanitarian projects in Africa and support for black-owned small businesses.

"We are investing in young people's education with college scholarships in the US and job training with our BeyGood programme in South Africa. I'm also proud of the work we've done through BeyGood and the NAACP [National Association for the Advancement of Colored People] to support black-owned small businesses that would not have been able to survive this year."

Toke Makinwa Recounts Her Childlessness As She Celebrates Her 36th Birthday

Posted: 04 Nov 2020 06:00 AM PST

Nigerian media personality, Toke Makinwa who turned 36 today, November 3 has revealed that there were many challenges she had to deal with and had many anticipations this year before her 36th birthday.

According to her, she had anticipated posting "baby on the way photos" however the tummy still looks flat and her waist still slim.

Her post reads;

The month of October was not the best I've felt, I don't just want to post glam pictures cos I do love the glam life but that's not all there is to me. I have been given this platform to share, to rise, to fall, to bare it all so you all know that there's nothing like picture perfect, we are all just trying to figure life out.

I was stressed emotionally, exhausted spiritually, working round the clock feeling empty cos I had so many expectations and it seemed like the devil heard be brag so loud about how good God has been to me, he decided to test my mind. Falling sick after God told me the plague in the land will not visit my family, oh I had expectations that this time November 2020 I will be posting baby on the way pictures but my belly is still flat, and my waist is still disappearing. The only thing I had going for me was work. Losing friends to betrayal and my anxiety on a all time high, I couldn't travel cos my work load kept piling and I just wasn't feeling great. I stopped praying cos I was tired of the same prayer points and as my birthday drew closer I felt even more anxious.

Yesterday I watched a sermon by @sarahjakesroberts titled "Girl get up" and I broke down really bad, I was carrying it all in, smiling for the world but the weight of all my emotions was on override and I let it all out. I felt God, I felt new and I felt peace. I started to remind myself of that little girl with dreams, the little girl that wanted to live the life that I live now and though all isn't perfect, I am turning 36 whole. I know only God could have brought me this far and the view from the 36th floor will be even more amazing. I know this was meant to be a hot picture but I decided to share this to let someone out there know that we are all in this thing called life together. All of it, the happy and sad, the joy and aches, the wins and loss, the view will only get better, I promise you.

Sorry for the long caption, if it's not for you, scroll and pass but if it is, read it knowing God knows your name and he makes no mistakes. He is never late and your miracle is taking longer cos it will be a sign to the whole world that he did it. Hang in there"

#EndSARS Protester, Moe’s Passport Seized At The Airport. Oby Ezekwesili Reacts

Posted: 04 Nov 2020 03:30 AM PST

The International Passport of one of the champions of #EndSARS protest, Modupe Odele, was reportedly seized at the airport last night and this has sparked reactions on social media.

Tweeting about Moe Odele's passport seizure,  Tosin @Donteewrites wrote:

Seizing @Mochievous International Passport tonight at the Airport is another sign of the Dictatorship that were witnessing under the Buhari Presidency…. This will be resisted

Oby Ezekwesili also reacted to Moe Odele's passport seizure:

What have I just read about @Mochievous ?

Is the news accurate?

Did the SSS under the supervision of @MBuhari @NGRPresident truly infringe Modupe Odele's constitutional right to movement because she expressed her right to protest through #EndSARS?

Is the news true?

Ezekwesili later tweeted this morning:

I have written the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno of @NigeriaGov @MBuhari @NGRPresident to immediately retrieve the passport of @Mochievous Modupe Odele from the State Security Service and deliver it to her with apologies. Nigeria can never be a Police State.#EndSARS

How an administration of @MBuhari @NGRPresident @NigeriaGov that find themselves in a hole of trenchant dissatisfaction of citizens just keeps on digging deeper into the sea level is a wonder!

You think repressing the rights of young #EndSARS protesters is your solution? Haba.

Moe Odele tweeted this morning about the incident but didn't give much details of what happened.
Moe wrote:

Hello everyone. Thank you so much. I'm fine and I'm safe. We haven't confirmed yet why I was stopped on Sunday or by whom. But I've been invited back in with my lawyers today. I'll update when I have more information but please don't spread false news. That is dangerous

Aisha Yesufu tackles Governor El-Rufai over insecurity in Kaduna state

Posted: 04 Nov 2020 03:00 AM PST

Bring Back Our Girls co-convener and #EndSARS protest frontliner, Aisha Yesufu has lashed out at Governor El-Rufai over insecurity in Kaduna state.

Reacting to a tweet in which a lady notified the Kaduna state Governor of the abduction of brothers who went to deliver a ransom to kidnappers who abducted their sisters which includes a pregnant woman, Aisha Yesufu noted that the insecurity in Kaduna is bad and life has no value.

She also called on Northern Governors to focus on the poverty, illiteracy, insecurity, kidnapping killings and street kids in the North, and not social media censorship.

The activist tweeted;

This should make us all call out @GovKaduna & @elrufai that has failed its people. The insecurity in Kaduna is bad and life has no value yet people are more concerned about the choices of individuals than choices of those elected to serve. When will #SecureNorth matter to North?

Northern Governors should focus on the poverty, illiteracy, insecurity, kidnapping killings, street kids in the North.

Aisha Yesufu also alleged that the most foolish assumptions the Northern Governors have is thinking they curtailed the #EndSars protest. She added that there is an awakening.

She tweeted;

The most foolish assumptions the Northern Governors have is thinking they curtailed #EndSars protest. There is an awakening! The Northern youth will come after them in the most senseless manner just like kidnapping that started in the south is most senseless in the North today

The North does not want to be secured and really no need demanding #SecureNorth. Their Governors here show the killings in the North we are worried about means nothing to them. They have enough population to use as collateral damage. We need to have the Nigerian conversation!

Boko Haram, bandits and kidnappers are the least of the problems of the North. The main problem in the North are the Northern Governors, Northern traditional rulers and Northern religious rulers. There is no need demanding #SecureNorth. The demand should be #FreeNorth

The Dead Will Disturb You – Burna Boy Tells Buhari, Sanwo-Olu and Nigeria Army In New Song

Posted: 04 Nov 2020 02:00 AM PST

Burna Boy's new song,  titled "20:10:20", which is based on the Lekki shooting, has been well-received.

The track censured the military attack on End SARS protesters at the Lekki toll gate.

Famous for human rights abuses, the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), terrorized several Nigerians.

Many were summarily killed or wounded publicly or in degrading cells by the operatives of the notorious unit.

For more than ten days, demonstrators in Lagos – where the agitation started on October 8 – and like minds across the country called for an end to police brutality.

On the night of Tuesday, October 20, 2020, Army troops marched to the Lekki rally ground and opened fire on unarmed citizens bearing national flags.

The incident sparked global condemnation and calls for prosecution of those responsible.

Burna Boy told President Muhammadu Buhari, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the Nigerian Army that the dead will disturb them for all their "atrocity".

The music star also mentioned an unnamed "godfather" and "gbo gbo ijoba", a veiled reference to Federal Government and Lagos State authorities.

Burna Boy, real name Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, accused the government of turning graduates to beggars and killing them for demanding justice.

"You carry army go kill many youth for Lekki, na so water ooo water runaway my eyes. Nothing you go talk wey go justify the case of their murder", the lyrics read.

"The chief of staff, the commander and the army wey carry order; Mr President, Mr Governor, godfather, gbo gbo ijoba, all your atrocity, all of your corner-corner, make all the dead body disturb you for your dream."

Burna Boy disclosed that proceeds of the song will be used to support families of victims and people suffering affliction caused by the Lekki shooting.

"May the heavens open and celebrate all our fallen heroes who have died for this movement from the very beginning. Rest in peace to all the beautiful lives lost", he said.
