Actress Joke Lawal - People Think Of Actresses As Prostitutes

Posted: 02 Dec 2020 01:30 AM PST

Nollywood actress Joke Lawal has shared some of the narratives about Nollywood she will like to change.

The actress who said this in an interview with Vanguard's Potpourri, noted that many people think that actresses are prostitutes.

Lawal said;

"I would like to change people's perception of actresses. A lot of people think of actresses as prostitutes, they see us as people who are not worthy of marriage and having a family. If I have the power this is something I will like to change. I will also like to see a change in the way our stories are written and interpreted, and in the quality of our film productions.

Another thing I would like to change too is, how poorly actors are paid. As a producer, I will like a situation where I can pay every actor that works on my project even if the person acts in just one scene. As an upcoming actress, I acted in movies and didn't get paid but because I was still new in the industry I didn't have a choice. God help me, these are things I will like to change in the movie industry."

IMT-2020 Technologies: ITU Completes Evaluation For Global Affirmation

Posted: 02 Dec 2020 12:38 AM PST

The radio interfaces that will be used in full-scale commercial deployment of fifth generation mobile communication networks have achieved global validation with the successful evaluation by ITU of three new technologies that conform with the International Mobile Telecommunications 2020 (IMT-2020) vision and stringent performance requirement.

The technologies are: 3GPP 5G-SRIT and 3GPP 5G-RIT submitted by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), and 5Gi submitted by Telecommunications Standards Development Society India (TSDSI).

During the multi-year development and evaluation process by the ITU Radio communication Sector (ITU-R), these technologies were deemed to be sufficiently detailed to enable by Mary BASSEY, Senior Investigator Correspondent, Lagos/

AS the exacerbating level of insecurity in the country is seemingly defying all known antidotes, a call has gone to the various levels of governments in the country to harness more of local intelligence as a panacea to wriggling out of this quagmire. Chairman, Managing Director of Badinson Security Services Limited who also heads the Police Community Relations Committee PCRC Victoria Island branch Lagos, Mr. Mathew Ibadin dropped the hints weekend in Lagos at the occasion of the graduation ceremony of students of  the Institute of Security Nigeria, University of Lagos, where he was inducted a fellow of the Institute.  A graduate of Political Science from the same University and media entrepreneur, Ibadin whose love for security is without definition and has therefore, undergone courses on various fabrics of security including forensic photographic analysis in the UK, insists that criminals are not spirits; stressing that they live amongst the people.

According to the award winning supernumerary Police Spy Detective who visibly beamed with smiles from both cheeks moments after being inducted a fellow of the Institute said, "Each time I flip through those screaming headlines in our dailies on how criminals outwit our security operatives, it worries me. The reason is simple: these are people who have no known technical training in their criminality; they are crude and casual; so how come they always outwit a trained security personnel and operate undetected?

As an individual who had painstakingly gone through all fabrics of security trainings, I am of the opinion that we can comfortably outfox these criminals and beat them to their games. And this is simply by making ample application of local intelligence. Criminals are human beings and they live with us in our communities and they have friends too; so tell me, if your friends who have no visible means of livelihood suddenly begin to live ostentatious life, won't your instinct tell you that they may be in for some uneconomic activities? As a law abiding citizen, what you do is begin to monitor them and report to the relevant security agency. That is local intelligence at play." worldwide compatibility of operation and equipment, including roaming.

The outcome of this first release of IMT-2020 supporting 5G is a set of terrestrial radio interface specifications which are incorporated into a global standard in the ITU-R Recommendation titled 'Detailed specifications of the radio interfaces of IMT-2020.' This is in final approval to the 193 Member States of ITU.

"IMT-2020 specifications for the fifth generation of mobile communications (5G) will be the backbone of tomorrow's digital economy, transforming lives and leading industry and society into the automated and intelligent world," said Houlin Zhao, ITU Secretary-General. "5G will enable much faster data speeds, reliable connectivity and low latency to international mobile telecommunications (IMT) — all needed for our new global communications ecosystem of connected devices sending vast amounts of data via ultrafast broadband."

Mario Maniewicz, Director of the ITU Radio communication Bureau, said: "The successful completion of the evaluation process and the release of this global standard is a significant milestone for the global telecommunication industry and its users. 5G technologies will further enrich the worldwide communications ecosystem, expand the range of innovative applications and support the burgeoning Internet of Things, including machine-to-machine communication."

The evaluation of the candidate technologies was not carried out by ITU-R alone. It was a highly collaborative process with substantial input from and coordination with ITU Member States, equipment manufacturers, network operators, and involved national, regional, and international standards development organizations, partnerships, the academic community and fora, since ITU-R provides a unique global framework to discuss the capabilities of new radio technologies.

In early 2012, ITU initiated the development of "IMT for 2020 and beyond", setting the stage for 5G research activities and in 2015 established the vision and requirements for the globalization of 5G. Under ITU's ongoing IMT programme, ITU membership is continuing its long-standing contribution to mobile communications, facilitating its mission to be "committed to connecting the world."

BBNaija's Leo DaSilva – A man’s refusal to date a jobless woman in Nigeria is a smart choice

Posted: 02 Dec 2020 12:00 AM PST

Ex-BBNaija season 3 housemate, Leo DaSilva has said that it is a smart choice if a man refuses to date a jobless woman in Nigeria.

The reality star made this submission in a quoted tweet he shared on his official Twitter page on Monday, November 30.

It all started after a lady on Twitter said tweets from guys saying they can't date a girl that's not financially stable doesn't seem right to her.

According to her, it is simply a matter of choice for people especially women to settle for whatever they want in relationships.

She tweeted, "I've seen tweets from guys saying they can't date a girl that's not financially stable.

I'm a student. But never, like never have I felt attacked by such tweets.

What's actually up with some guys on Twitter? What I want must not make sense to you. It's choice boo."

However, Leo was of the opinion that for a country like Nigeria that is "world's poverty headquarter", it will be a smart choice for any man who refuses to date a jobless woman in Nigeria.

Leo tweeted, "Guys should have their own preference just as women have theirs. Dating someone that's not working or doesn't have adequate allowance is a burden. Nigeria, the poverty capital of the world, if a young man trying to come up refuses that burden, I think it's a smart choice."

BBNaija's Khafi Debunks Pregnancy Rumors

Posted: 01 Dec 2020 08:00 AM PST

Khafi Kareem, BBNaija's former housemate has debunked pregnancy rumors and threatens to block anyone who talks about pregnancy.

In a post she seems to be more attentive to any follower who tends to tag her with pregnancy.

Read Chat below

The way I'm looking at the next person who drops a pregnancy comment on my post. Continue reading if you don't want to get BLOCKED. (I'm not joking). I've ignored them for the longest now but according to the womb watchers on social media I have been pregnant for over a YEAR.

So let me get this off my heart. Some people have flat stomachs naturally and some people have big stomachs naturally.

The latter is ME. And when I'm on my period it is even BIGGER. I don't owe anyone a flat stomach but still I try to suck in my belly in every single picture and sometimes I do it better than others. The worst is that even when I'm proud of my 'sucking in skills' on a particular picture there is always SOMEONE who still comments something about pregnancy. This is a habit that HAS TO STOP.

First of all, women are more than baby-making machines. A woman's fertility or decision to start a family is for her to decide, not for you to comment on in every single picture… Must our stomachs always be the first thing you look at?? 🧐

Secondly, I'm not just speaking up for myself but for women in general. You may mean well when making pregnancy remarks but it is not always a compliment.

For women who have had miscarriages, have been trying unsuccessfully for a baby, or simply conscious about their weight it can be very distressing, triggering and also puts a lot of undue pressure on them. So unless someone has announced a pregnancy or told you then please be nice and DONT COMMENT OR CONGRATULATE them on one.

Trust me when the time is right I welcome pregnancy (twins please Lord!👶🏽👶🏽) and starting a family at God's time. But until I've said I'm expecting please stop with the pregnancy comments. I'll have no patience for them anymore and any one who writes such comments will get BLOCKED.

To those who mean well, thank you so much, I do love you all💛 But to the amebos please be amebos elsewhere 😁. It's pressure enough being a woman, so let's not add to it. Happy Sunday

Actress, Destiny Etiko – Why I don’t believe in sleeping around for money

Posted: 01 Dec 2020 02:00 AM PST

Popular Nollywood actress, Destiny Etiko has spoken on why she does not believe in sleeping around to support her celebrity status.

Destiny Etiko disclosed this in an exclusive interview held over the weekend with Sunday Scoop.

The actress who is famous for her attractive physique has said some people misunderstand her because of her physical attributes.

According to her, she is not bothered about marrying a rich man to complement her celebrity status.

In her words, "I know some men are scared of successful women but my man cannot be scared of me. I am not looking for a billionaire or someone that has a lot of money. I am hard-working and would surely support whoever I am getting married to.

I don't believe in sleeping around to make money but a lot of people misunderstand me because of my physique. My work pays me very well. Some people who are not even close to me want to do me favours, so what is the essence of sleeping around. If God gives me a man that is moderately rich and I love him, I would go ahead with the marriage. I am in a relationship and I am comfortable with my man.

"I cannot marry a man that does not appreciate me or support my career. He would have to look for someone else because it cannot work. Although as a married woman, there may be some roles I would not be able to act anymore.

Once a man is supportive, I don't need a billionaire. I am not a money conscious person and would not cheat on my man. It is very important to marry a man that one loves. Why would a man be intimidated by a woman's success? Any man that does that is not worthy to be called a man. When a woman does legitimate businesses, the man would need to support her.

Any man that does not support a hard-working woman is less of a man and I cannot entertain such a person. When we are ready to get married, the whole world will know my man. It cannot be hidden."

Speaking about her father's recent luxurious funeral ceremony, she said she was overwhelmed by the personalities that graced the occasion and doled out cash to make it memorable.

She said, "My father was a good man and the love I received during his funeral was massive. I was shocked that veteran actors such as Pete Edochie, Patience Ozokwo and John Okafor (Mr Ibu) honoured me.

I celebrate people, especially on their birthdays, anniversaries and other memorable moments. I also attend people's events, unless I am not disposed. Some people were even stuck in traffic and they had to turn back. If all the actors that planned to come made it to the venue, it would have been more than a carnival that some people said it was.

I was glad that Prophet Odumeje came. Immediately he arrived, everywhere was shut down. People began to shout and even left their seats to see him. He shook the crowd. My mother was short of words even though she knew my plans."
