'Sanitation Day' a Seyi Babatope's film is coming to cinemas in January 2021

Filmone has confirmed new details on the release of its anticipated crime thriller, 'Sanitation Day' directed by Seyi Babatope.

Filmone's second West African Film Fund (WAFF) project, 'Sanitation Day' will reportedly premiere in cinemas in 2021.

A source from Filmone confirmed to Pulse that while more details will be announced in the coming weeks, they are pushing for a January 2021 release.

Recall production for the movie which was a contender for Nigeria's Oscars Best International Feature Film submission, kicked off in March 2020.

Set in 2016, the thriller written by Dichie Enunwa, Seyi Babatope and Temitope Akinbode follows two inspectors, Inspector Hassan (Blossom Chukwujekwu) and Inspector Stanley (Elozonam Ogbolu) who must uncover the perpetrators of a grisly murder before sanitation day is over and movement begins.

It also stars Nse Ikpe-Etim, Charles Inojie, Baaj Adebule, Chris Okagbue, Belinda Effah, Olakunle Fawole, Chuks Chyke among others.

All is set for the theatrical release of Niyi Towolawi's latest feature film, 'The Miracle Centre'.

The Niyi Towolawi directed film premieres in cinemas January 1, 2021.

The situation comedy produced by Bode Odetoye has been confirmed to premiere in cinemas nationwide on January 1, 2021.

Starring an ensemble list of A-list movie stars including Odunalade Adekola, Femi Adebayo, Ayo Mogaji, Yemi Sodimu, Afeez 'Saka' Oyetoro, Rachael Okonkwo and Instagram sensation, Etinosa Idemudia, 'The Miracle Centre' comically examines the problems of Nigeria's educational system. The story was written by Isokoh Edirin.

The upcoming comedy also stars popular comedians, Samuel Perry popularly known as Broda Shaggi, Woli Agba among others.

Barack Obama reveals some behind the scenes glimpses of his life in the White House in his forthcoming memoir, including problems in his marriage and how the stress of the job increased his smoking habit.

The 768-page tome, entitled 'A Promised Land' and out on November 17, focuses on Obama's early political career through is first term in the White House. But the book also features some human interest stories, including the former president's struggle to quit smoking.

Obama admits that he would sometimes smoke eight or nine or ten cigarettes a day and look for a 'discreet location to grab an evening smoke,' in the memoir, a copy of which was obtained by CNN.
 
And he credits his eldest daughter Malia with getting him to quit, writing she 'frowned' at him after 'smelling a cigarette on my breath.'

He said he 'ceaselessly' chewed nicotine gum to stop.


During his presidency there was endless speculation on whether or not Obama had kicked the habit, which he famously promised his wife Michelle he would do before he campaigned for president.

Obama began smoking as a teenager and talked about his struggle to quit.

'As a former smoker I constantly struggle with it,' the then-president admitted during a press conference in 2009. 'Have I fallen off the wagon sometimes? Yes. Am I daily smoker, a constant smoker? No. I don't do it in front of my kids. I don't do it in front of my family. And, you know, I would say that I am 95% cured, but there are times where there are times where I mess up,' he said.

He was never caught on camera smoking during his White House tenure, but there were hints of his habit.

In 2015, during Obama's trip to Germany for a G-7 meeting, a spokesman for the then-Italian prime minister Matteo Renzi posted a photo online that appeared to show Obama holding a pack of cigarettes.

The White House, at the time, said it was not.

During the debt crisis in August 2011, Obama was photographed in the Oval Office with what appeared to be Nicorette gum on his desk.

In his memoir, Obama also writes about how life in the White House took a toll on his marriage.

Malia Obama was 10 and Sasha Obama was seven when their father became president. He and Michelle had been married 16 years when they became the first couple.

Obama hints at frustrations felt by his wife in the fishbowl life of the White House.

The book is the first of two parts coming from the former president – part of a $65 million deal he and Michelle Obama signed with Penguin Random House. The former first lady's book 'Becoming' sold millions of copies when it came out in 2018, setting a high bar of expectations for her husband's book.

In her memoir, Michelle Obama also discussed martial problems, revealing the couple went to marriage counseling in Chicago before their White House tenure, early in their marriage when Obama was in the state legislature.

While she was promoting her book, Michelle Obama told ABC News: 'I know too many young couples who struggle and think somehow, there's something wrong with them.'

'I want them to know that Michelle and Barack Obama — who have a phenomenal marriage and who love each other — we work on our marriage and we get help with our marriage when we need it,' she said.

In his book, Barack Obama also speaks to race relations in the United States, writing it was his own historic election as the nation's first black president that sparked some of the current division in the country.

'It was as if my very presence in the White House had triggered a deep-seated panic, a sense that the natural order had been disrupted,' Obama writes in the book, which was obtained by CNN.

Donald Trump, he claims, sensed the country's mood and took advantage of it to win the White House in the 2016 election.

'Which is exactly what Donald Trump understood when he started peddling assertions that I had not been born in the United States and was thus an illegitimate president. For millions of Americans spooked by a Black man in the White House, he promised an elixir for their racial anxiety,' he writes.

In another news, The 'Livespot Xclusive Concert Experience' show slated for December 19th and 20th which features afrobeat giants, Burna Boy, Wizkid and other artistes has been postponed due to the second wave of COVID-19 in Nigeria.

According to the organizer Darey Art Alade, the rise in COVID-19 cases in the country is the main reason why the show had to be postponed indefinitely.

DJ Switch Begs ICC To Probe Lekki Shooting says, ‘Nigeria Sitting On Keg Of Gunpowder’

DJ Switch, a disc jockey, has pleaded with the International Criminal Court (ICC) to commence its investigation on the attacks on #EndSARS protesters by security forces across Nigeria.

She was addressing the office of Fatou Bensouda, the ICC's prosecutor, in a virtual event on Thursday — in the wake of the court's resolve to carry out a preliminary inquiry into the alleged crimes committed during the #EndSARS protests.

On October 20, operatives of the Nigerian army had opened fire on the youth who stationed in the Lekki toll gate area of Lagos to protest against police brutality. This was as pockets of violent attacks also broke out across the country.

Speaking to the ICC, Switch said: "#EndSARS is a movement against police brutality, which has since become a much bigger movement against bad governance. The reason is simple. From President Muhammadu Buhari downwards, they are all SARS. This is a government that would rather silence and kill its citizens rather than be guided by their concerns and cries; hide COVID-19 palliatives, that were donated, rather than feed its people.
 
"One that would rather spend quality time with his cows rather than address its citizens. The same government chose to inject rogue elements into peaceful protests rather than protect its people. Yet it chose to cuddle terrorists.

"It is the same government that froze the accounts of protesters and seized passports but cannot seem to trace the accounts that sponsor terrorism. It states in the constitution that the security and welfare of the Nigerian people is the primary purpose of the government, but on the 20th of October 2020, the Nigerian Army sanctioned by the government stormed the Lekki tollgate in the first wave of assault. There was no warning, just guns blazing.

"We were forced to have a crash course on medical procedures, attempting to extract a bullet from the leg of a protester until one ambulance came from the back. So, please tell me, what then was their intention if not to kill us? At this point, we had counted 15 bodies. A few hours later came the second wave of us of assault by the Nigerian police with the same modus operandi, killing and injuring those of us left at the tollgate.

"The same police also shot at us the next morning. This is just one incident. There is Obigbo. There is Nkpor. There is Zabamari and more. The Nigerian authorities under the poor, corrupt, and misguided leadership of President Buhari down to his cohorts: Governor Jide Sanwo-Olu, General Tukur Buratai, Brigadier Taiwo, FO. Omata, Lai Mohammed, and many more have all tried severally to deny these events while contradicting themselves."

'Crimes were committed in multiple fronts' — ICC says it has basis to kick-start an investigation
 
Rod Rastan, the legal advisor to the office of the prosecutor, said that it didn't take long after ICC commenced its preliminary inquiry for it to find that crimes within the court's jurisdiction had been committed on multiple fronts.

"ICC has been examining what's been going on in Nigeria for a long time. We call it a preliminary examination. It's a stage where we're determining whether we should open investigations. It didn't take long to conclude that crimes were committed within the court's jurisdiction. Our conclusion was focused on alleged crimes by Boko Haram but, in subsequent years, we've updated it to include our findings with respect to the Nigerian security forces," he said.

"We're supposed to step in if the national response isn't effective or genuine. We have always sought to offer threats of the ICC intervening in order to create momentum domestically. If they don't act to that, we should act. We said we were likely to conclude our assessment this year. And at the end of it, we have indeed confirmed there is a basis for the court to proceed because the national response doesn't correspond to what we're looking at now."

Although he cited the logistic challenges within the court's investigative team that might force the ICC to reconsider some of its line of inquiry, Rastan said that the court is still working on plans to roll out a formal investigation.

"We believe that crimes have been committed across multiple fronts, almost every crime within the jurisdiction of the court appears to have been committed in one formula bar or other in relation to war crimes and crimes against humanity under our statute. We're continuing forward planning for investigations. We have a limited capacity, investigating multiple situations around the world. We only have 80 investigators," the legal adviser added.

"It's not that we're looking at an excuse not to do things, but that we also are emphasizing that we also need support from state parties and from other stakeholders to also help the court have the means to deliver what it wants to do. What this means for Nigeria is that the prosecutor will make some decisions on how to roll out investigations.

"If the means do not come, then the prosecutor may have to, for example, decide to terminate some lines of inquiry or complete activities that are ongoing in order to allow the capacity of the office to open investigations relation to Nigeria. These are pragmatic considerations. It doesn't mean that the office will not proceed with investigations."

'Millions of Nigerians are willing' — Switch assures ICC of investigative aid

Responding to Rastan's comments, Switch said: "This government continues to fail in doing its duty as what I'd have called an elected government if that was not riddled with corruption itself. I urge you as members of parts of the global governing body to take swift action in ensuring justice is served to Nigerians through your investigations.

"I believe you will find ample evidence to bring charges against the elements in the Nigerian government. Please do not continue to place us on the back burner or say we are not a priority. Do not turn a blind eye to a nation with immense potential to be on the world stage if only these potentials are harnessed and not killed off.

"It is evident the state of Nigeria has failed, our leaders too greedy too corrupt, and quite frankly unequipped intellectually, mentally, and physically to protect Nigerians or move the nation anywhere. If it is indeed true that the first lady of Nigeria, Aisha Buhari, can relocate to Dubai citing insecurity in the presidential Villa, the most secure building in Nigeria, then I asked where do we the average Nigerian go?

"I can assure you millions of Nigerians are willing to help provide all you may need to reduce the potential burden on this request. Nigeria is sitting on a keg of gunpowder because of all the things that we have been deprived of."

Others who spoke at the virtual event are Agnès Callamard, UN's special rapporteur on extrajudicial killings; Netsanet Belay, Amnesty International's research director; and Hamsatu Allamin of the Nigeria stability and reconciliation program (NSRP).

American Supermodel, Naomi Campbell has reacted after Secretary to the Katsina State Government, Mustapha Inuwa announced that about 340 of the abducted students of the Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, have been released.

The boys were abducted from their school on Friday, December 11, by bandits. Boko Haram later claimed responsibility for their abduction.

Omah Lay Speaks About The Ugandan Show, His Arrest And Release

Omah Lay has spoken out for the first time following his return to Nigeria after he was arrested and locked up in prison for flouting COVID-19 guidelines in Uganda.

The singer was arrested on Sunday alongside fellow singer Tems for holding an "illegal concert" at Ddungu resort in Munyonyo where they gathered big crowds, contrary to President Museveni's directives on the prevention of the spread of Covid-19.

Taking to Twitter to share his experience, Omah Lay described the past few days as 'toughest of my life' and claimed he was treated like a common criminal after his arrest.

In one tweet, the singer appreciated fans who came out to watch him perform, before clarifying that it was never his intention to cause any harm that could have likely caused the spread of infectious disease.

According to him, the show promoters confirmed and proved they'd secured all clearances including COVID-19 compliance, paving the way for him to make himself available for the event.


The singer also tendered a public apology to his family, team, and fans for the 'sleepless nights' he had caused them and thanked everyone who played a role to help facilitate his release from prison.

He wrote;

"The past few days have been some of the toughest of my life that I wouldn't wish them on anyone. Out in a new country with some beautiful people, the next thing I'm being treated like a common thief

First off I want to thank all the amazing fans that came out to see me in Uganda, the smiles on your happy faces that evening would be one of my happiest memories

Also I wanna clarify that putting you in harms way was never my intentions! Before we came out to Uganda, the show promoters confirmed and proved to us they'd secured all the clearances which of course included Covid 19 compliance….

Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh has sent a birthday wish to President Muhammadu Buhari.

The 35-year-old shared a birthday poster signed by director general of Committee of Youth on Mobilization and Sensitization (CYMS) Obinna Nwaka in an Instagram post on Thursday.

She went on to pray for him and wish him well.

Robert Lewandowski has won the Best FIFA Men's Player award on Thursday night during a virtual ceremony.

The Polish and Bayern Munich striker, 32, who enjoyed an historic treble-winning season with his club, winning the Champions League, the Bundesliga, and the German Cup in 2020, broke up Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi's dominance to scoop the award.

He also scored 55 goals in just 47 games last season and finished as the top scorer in the league, cup, and Champions League


FIFA president Gianni Infantino showed personally to hand over the award, which recognised achievements between July 2019 and October 2020, to the Poland striker.

'A long time ago, I remember I was longing for something like this and now I can win such and award.

Singer, Kwam 1 Speaks On Running For Political Office

KWAM 1, a veteran Nigerian Fuji artist, on Thursday, December 17, ruled out the possibility of running for any political office.

KWAM 1 whose real name is Wasiu Ayinde, made the declaration at an event, titled "FUJI-Opera", held at Alliance Francaise, Mike Adenuga Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Wasiu, who is the first Mayegun of Yoruba Land, said his decision to stay clear of political office was based on his hatred for "promise and fail" attitudes.

He explained that he doesn't want to make hefty promises to gain votes only to fail the electorates due to unforeseen factors.

Few months back, reports had claimed the Alaafin of Oyo is to strip off the title of Mayegun on KWAM 1.

The reports came after a petition was made by the Freelance and Independent Broadcasters Association, to that effect.

Wasiu Ayinde, KWAM 1 reportedly assaulted a broadcaster Wole Sorunke in Ogun State, leading to calls for him to be stripped off his title.

Fans of popular Afrobeat singer, Burna Boy have teased their favorite of his not so good handwriting as his lyrics note surfaces online.

The singer's sister, Ronami Ogulu had taken to social media to share a photo of Burna Boy's journal that contains lyrics of his recently released music video, 'way too good.'

In a now-deleted Instagram post, fans trooped-in in numbers to tease the singer of his terrible handwriting while comparing it to that of pharmacists.

"Damn my presidents writing is just like em pharmacist witing. Big ups to you Ronami for styling my president that way," a fan wrote in the comment section.
