Dating an insecure partner? Here are 7 things you can do to help their esteem issues

Posted: 08 Feb 2021 08:00 AM PST

These are ways to help an insecure partner overcome their concerns and esteem issues, no matter how deep.

If you ever find yourself dating someone who is insecure about a lot of things and has a tendency to occasionally or regularly struggle with esteem issues, you should know that the relationship will come with some special problems.

But hey! Good relationships are actually useful for building people up. Also because all things happen for a reason, your presence in that your partner's life could be the exact thing they need to concretize their self-esteem, overcome their insecurities and build real confidence.

So instead of giving up on him or her, here are things you can do to help them overcome their insecurities.

1. Are you really willing to do this?
Before completely getting yourself involved in a relationship with someone with insecurities and esteem issues, you need to be sure that you're willing and ready to deal with the intricacies and complications of such relationship.

If you're not sure you can handle it, it's best to break things off immediately. You really do not need the stress of biting more than you can chew. To thyself be true.

2. Valid compliments
If you have crossed that bridge of honest introspection and have found yourself willing to give things a try, your first task would be to learn the art of giving meaningful compliments.

Compliments are always a great way to boost someone's self-esteem and self-confidence. Compliment your partner on his/her clothes, hair, smile, features, personality, attitude, and so on. Compliments should be meaningful and you'll want to be sure that you aren't giving the same compliment over and over.

3. Respect any boundaries
If your partner is insecure, it's likely that they'll have one or two boundaries. Maybe the whole "lights-on" thing is out the window, or maybe showering together is off-limits for now. Whatever the boundary may be, learn to respect it.

This will allow them the opportunity to warm up to you and become comfortable in their own time. You need to respect the pace at which they arrive there. You'd be overbearing and would put them off if you push too hard when they're yet unprepared for some particular form or level of intimacy.

4. Be supportive
This cannot be overemphasized. Your partner may be sensitive about things like their weight, some other body concern, the way they speak, insecurity about their work, etc.

Some of these things can be worked on and should your partner decide to work on these things, it would be wise to bend over backwards in support. Be there for him or her through the change process.

5. Be prepared for slow change
In the right relationship with the right person, someone who is insecure will slowly but very likely come around. The change won't happen overnight and you should be patient enough for it.

When it does happen, it'll be for good and you need to trust the process and let the switch happen in its own time.

6. Always tell them you love them
Validation is key to someone with esteem issues especially if it is coming from someone they love.

That you constantly remind your partner that you love him or her will go a long way, especially if you always make sure to add that irrespective of body insecurities and any other personal thing they may be sensitive about, you love them and would rather them in your life than anyone else.

7. Good listening
An insecure partner will likely talk about his/her problems in random spurts, you'll want to be sure that you always have a willing and ready ear. Being a good listener will allow you to understand your partner's problems and worries and will lessen the severity of their insecurity.

3 myths about cheating that you need to stop believing now

Posted: 08 Feb 2021 07:00 AM PST

Let's separate truth from fiction once and for all!

It is not surprising that many opinions and beliefs have been created around cheating simply because it is now so widespread and commonplace.

As more people are experiencing, hearing about and dealing with cheating in their relationships and marriages, opinions and beliefs about the concept continue to multiply. What we now have is both the right representation of it and a whole lot of wrong ones.

To avoid getting caught in lies and falsehoods concerning cheating and how it manifests in relationships, check out these three myths about cheating that you should not believe.

1. If you love him, you'll stay faithful
Perhaps one of the most tragic misconceptions about cheating is that people stray because they have fallen out of love with their partners.

It's a big fat lie you should never believe. You can love someone and still cheat on them.

2. The definition of cheating is universal
That is another myth. What cheating means is no longer as narrow in scope as it was back in the day. And what it means to some people, is not what it means to other people. It is better to have a conversation with your partner to know what would count as cheating to them apart from the obvious rule that you should not have sex with another person.

3. Good sex prevents cheating
This is one more thing you should never believe. If you're in a relationship, spicing up the physical intimacy won't prevent cheating.

Dotman releases new single, 'Hakuna Matata'

Posted: 08 Feb 2021 02:30 AM PST

The breakout success of "Akube" was another reminder of his very particular skill set.

No single artist operating in Nigeria presently has mastered the art of music singles as culture shifters like Dotman has. From the days of his first singles, "Yes Melo" and "Fine Girl," the singer has maintained a dogged dedication to elevating the arena of transformative pop singles.

The breakout success of "Akube" was another reminder of his very particular skill set. And as he continues to write more, he has been inching towards making an album that distills his hit-making ability into a cohesive body of work.

The album that bears the fruit of his hard work is Hakuna Matata, a fresh, incisive body of work bearing the signs of Dotman's proficiency but tempered with the urge to make music for all occasions. Hakuna Matata opens with "Pele," a mellow reflection on the path that has led him to his position. "Chop Life" thrives on its obliviousness, designed to pull listeners into the hedonistic orbit that Dotman currently operates at.

2020's runaway hit, "Enugbe," is positioned as the centerpiece of this project, furthering the grass to grace motif of Hakuna Matata. The album's second half is filled with love riddims, adding another unexpected layer to Dotman's artistry. Dotman takes his music to new plains on "Feelings" before rooting it in the familial on "Shuga."

With Hakuna Matata, the goal is simple: give listeners the very best of Dotman without over flogging familiar themes. And while Dotman has made the pop single a true art form, with this album he shows that he is no one-trick pony.
