Strategic Partnerships and New Ventures Internship with Land O'Lakes

Job Description Summary:
The Intern, Strategic Partnerships and New Ventures will work with the Land O'Lakes Venture37 Strategic Partnerships and New Ventures (SPNV) team. S/he will work with SPNV to increase the number of relationships Venture37 has with non-US government (USG) customers, including foundations, non-USG bi-laterals and corporations, deepen existing relationships and bring in new business from these customers. The intern will be based in Arden Hills, MN or Washington, DC. Possibility of remote work from alternative location.

Position Summary and Primary Responsibilities:
The intern will support the SPNV team to secure new business through strategy and new business pipeline development, customer and partner relationship building, marketing, proposal development, and the support of SPNV strategic initiatives. Primary responsibilities will include some of the following:

Strategy and Pipeline Development
  • Leverage and contribute to V37 Plan for Growth, ensuring early intel capture and targeted pursuit of priority customers and procurements.
  • Assist team in tracking funding opportunities across multiple customers, developing bid/opportunity analyses, customer development plans, and capture plans.
  • Update opportunities and contacts in Salesforce.
  • Support SPNV special initiatives and projects.
Customer and Partner Relationship Development
  • Assist SPNV to cultivate and deepen connections with contacts globally for key existing and new customers, including foundations, corporations, and non-USG bilateral agencies; develop strong understanding of key influencers.
  • Support the development and execution of customer development strategies; retain working knowledge of strategies to inform capture and institutional knowledge base.
  • Support V37 in key customer meetings.
  • Assist SPNV to cultivate and expand relationships with implementation partners including international NGOs, businesses, and academic institutions.
Proposal Development
  • Support SPNV and V37 to develop proposals for new and existing customers.
  • Participate in proposal design and other proposal-related sessions as appropriate.
  • Support the procurement and contracting process for proposal consultants.
Marketing
  • Work with V37 colleagues and partners to develop customer-appropriate pitch decks, technical papers and other marketing collateral that showcase V37's work and thought leadership.
  • Support marketing trips to meet with key customers and organize customer visits to Land O'Lakes to influence program design.
  • Position V37 for new business opportunities at industry events.
Knowledge Management
  • Assist with organization and management of SPNV department site on DevLink.
  • Liaise with internal departments to facilitate dissemination and use of relevant SPNV information, policies, and processes.
  • Effectively implement donor and Land O'Lakes branding, marketing, reporting, and operating procedures.
  • Organize, document, and file SPNV communications, reports, and best practices appropriately on SharePoint, Microsoft Teams or Venture2Learn resource website.
Reporting & Supervision:
The Intern will report to a Manager on the SPNV team.

Qualifications
  • A recent graduate or currently in pursuit of a Bachelor's or graduate-level degree, preferably in International Development, International Affairs, Public Policy, Plant Science, Animal Science, Food Systems, Business Administration, or other relevant field.
  • Exceptional primary- and secondary-source research skills.
  • Familiarity with international donor-funded projects with an agriculture focus; familiarity with proposal development process is an added advantage.
  • Demonstrated interest in international development issues. Developing-country work and volunteer experience desired.
  • Demonstrated leadership, ethics, and sound judgment, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to maintain maturity and patience, interpret and implement company policy, and adjust quickly to change in fast-paced, multicultural team environment.
  • Strong skills and experience with MS Office Products with the ability to learn additional software packages.
  • Excellent organizational skills with an emphasis on attention to detail and accurate record keeping.
  • Strong collaboration and facilitation skills to establish and maintain good working relationships with global colleagues and partners in multi-country and multi-language settings.
  • Excellent English language writing skills. Fluency in French, Arabic and/or Portuguese language skills is an added advantage.

Paid U.S. Renewable Energy Research Summer Internship with the World Resources Institute

In the US and across the world, communities of color are disproportionally affected by issues related to climate change and environmental degradation. Yet, action and support are not happening at the pace required and the environmental space addressing these issues remains dominated by white voices. WRI is creating access and opportunity to harness the power, creativity, and innovation of diversity by increasing representation of Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) in the environmental space. We need a diverse set of voices to solve climate change and that begins with you.

Internships at WRI are learning experiences designed for current students, recent graduates, and other candidates who wish to gain knowledge about a specific area of our work. WRI provides many internship opportunities throughout the year in all our programs.

Internship Summary
As the U.S. Energy intern, you will provide research needed to support the Energy Team's various projects across the U.S., with two of particular focus. The majority of your work will focus on research support for 1) local county and city school districts planning electrically and financially for electrification of school bus fleets with the Bezos Electric School Bus Initiative and 2) helping with research and delivery of webinar series on curbside charging planning and development for city energy/fleet managers for downtown districts and residential neighborhoods per UPS Foundation outreach goals.

Examples of research support will include best practices and case studies for determining system size and cost of electrical infrastructure equipment for school busses depots and smaller systems attached to existing streetlights in urban areas, financing mechanisms, and emissions benefits of transition away from fossil fuel-powered buses and personal vehicles.

Time permitting, there may be additional research support activities across the Energy Program and WRI's Ross Center for Sustainable Cities.

Learning Outcomes
  • The intern will gain experience in the following areas:
  • Providing research support for school districts, counties, and cities looking to procure electric vehicle charging infrastructure
  • Electrical infrastructure charging systems, system sizing for bus fleets and individual personal vehicles
  • Supporting the organization and implementation of a webinar series with city stakeholders focused on curbside charging planning and implementation
  • Tracking new EV, battery and system charging technologies in the broader EV industry
Internship Qualifications
  • Highly organized individual with ability to work independently
  • Strong background in electrical engineering, physics or economics
  • Interest in helping to foster transition to electric school bus infrastructure at county and city levels of electrical grids and introduction of renewable energy to consumption/generation mix
  • Commitment to creating a strong, cohesive, and effective educational platform to help city energy/fleet managers identify and implement actions to achieve their early EV transition goals
General Internship Requirements

Compensation
  • The pay range for this internship opportunity is between $15-18/hour, commensurate with qualifications.

  • This is a remote-based internship with the option to work out of the Washington D.C. office once it reopens.

Paid Human Services Internship with Mathematica Policy Research

Mathematica applies expertise at the intersection of data, methods, policy, and practice to improve well-being around the world. We collaborate closely with public- and private-sector partners to translate big questions into deep insights that improve programs, refine strategies, and enhance understanding using data science and analytics. Our work yields actionable information to guide decisions in wide-ranging policy areas, from health, education, early childhood, and family support to nutrition, employment, disability, and international development.

We are seeking a dynamic, intellectually curious individuals, interested in Mathematica's mission and commitment to equity to participate the Human Services unit's summer intern program. Summer interns will contribute to a variety of research, data collection, technical assistance, and operational activities that support evidence-based decision making in areas such as education, early childhood, labor, family support, and nutrition.

Responsibilities include the following:
  • Assist in designing and testing data collection instruments and protocols
  • Contribute to reports and memos
  • Support or participate in data collection activities, including survey administration, cognitive interviews, in-depth interviews, site visits, focus groups, classroom observations, or educational testing
  • Support administration and oversight of research tasks, such as recruiting schools and social service programs to participate in evaluations, working with schools and programs to implement evaluations and collect data, preparing training materials, delivering training, and performing quality control activities
  • Perform literature searches and reviews
  • Support quantitative and/or qualitative analyses, including cleaning, coding, and organizing data and assisting with analysis
  • Assist with organizing webinars and technical expert meetings and taking meeting notes
  • Assist in developing recommendations for government agencies, foundations, and non-profits on how to use results from data analyses to shape their programs and organizational strategy, including developing tools and products to support improvements.
  • Support the design of engaging presentations, translating complex or conceptual thoughts into more concrete and clear information.
  • Create and maintain spreadsheets using Microsoft Project or Excel
  • Learn about managing projects by developing and tracking schedules, finances, and logistics
Position Requirements:
  • Enrolled in an undergraduate program or entering or in the first year of a master's-level training program in public policy, sociology, psychology, economics, education, social work or related discipline. If in an undergraduate program, must be entering junior or senior year of program
  • Exposure to social science research methods and design and a passion for technology
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with flexibility to handle multiple tasks and work on multiple projects
  • Highly motivated, detail-oriented, and self-directed, with strong interpersonal skills
  • Experience or interest in meeting facilitation and, public speaking,
  • Desire and ability to work as part of a research team
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, and/or PowerPoint

Summer Policy Assistant Internship with JPMorgan Chase

The JPMorgan Chase Policy Center develops and advances sustainable, evidence-based policy solutions to drive inclusive economic growth in the U.S. and around the world. It is powered by the firm's global business resources and expertise, including data, research, talent and philanthropic investments. The Policy Center works with policy, business and community leaders to drive effective solutions at all levels of government.

The Policy Assistant will directly support members of the Policy Center team across a breadth of policy strategies and special projects, and will report to the Research & Policy Chief of Staff. The role is a part of our Washington, D.C.-based team, but due to COVID precautions we anticipate this role will be remote through August 2021.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Enhance policy proposals and planning through active monitoring of legislative and regulatory actions using general online research and in-house tools
  • Contribute to success of internal and external meetings and events through materials and logistics preparation and program administrative support
  • Create and edit team work products, including PowerPoint presentations in PowerPoint, written memos in Word, and management of data as-needed in Excel

Qualifications

  • Interest, and preferably experience, in policy, economics, government relations, political science, and/or communications.

  • A full-time student, enrolled in a degree-seeking undergraduate or Masters program at an accredited academic institution.

UMD Student COVID Relief Grant

UMD has received funds from the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund to distribute to eligible students as UMD Student COVID Relief Grants. These grants can be used for any component of the student's cost of attendance or for emergency costs that arise due to the pandemic, such as:
  • assistance with food purchases,
  • needs related to housing/rent/utilities,
  • assistance with health care (including mental health care) or child care expenses,
  • the payment of tuition or purchase of course materials, and/or
  • technology-related needs.
