NPFL chairman Shehu Dikko reveals that Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa turned down salary talks and will play for Kano Pillars for free

Nigeria Premier Football League chairman, Shehu Dikko, has revealed that Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa, rejected talks of salary after agreeing to join his boyhood club, Kano Pillars, for a second stint until the end of the season.

The former Leicester City and CSKA Moscow winger, 28, signed for the four-time Nigerian champions on Thursday April 15, under the Elite Players Program of the League Management Company (LMC), which encourages top Nigerian internationals to play for local clubs.

Explaining the terms of the deal, Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the LMC, told ESPN that the program works in two ways. A club can identify and sign such players, or the LMC itself can sign the player and assign them to a club of their choice.


According to Shehu, the LMC activated the second option for Musa.

"We spoke to him about coming back home to play, and as someone who is always ready to give back, he did not hesitate," Dikko said.

"Once the agreement was signed, the choice of which club to play for was up to him. A number of clubs wanted him. We put everything in front of him and he made the decision to go to Kano Pillars."

The LMC Chairman also disclosed that Musa dismissed any talk of remuneration and decided to play for free.



"We didn't speak much about it. Musa is someone who is more concerned about giving back to the club that made him and he is not coming here to do this for money. He is not getting paid for playing for Pillars. That is the kind of person he is," Dikko said.

The Nigeria captain was unveiled by the club on Thursday, April 15, and could play his first game as early as April 28, when Pillars travel to face Warri Wolves.

Mavin star, Crayon has revealed that his mother used to be a popular fruit seller at Iyana Iba in Lagos.

The singer in a tweet he shared, said his mother sold fruits for 19 years at the same spot with her small table and other things. Crayon said he changed all that after he signed his music deal in 2019.

He tweeted;

In an OffAir interview with OAP Gbemi, the deft broadcaster expressed her disappointment that Chioma did not completely establish herself before the saga blew up.

When asked for some suggestions on the way forward for Chioma Avril Rowland, Toolz suggested that she hire a photographer to take mind-blowing pictures of her on a regular basis, which she would then post on Instagram.

She also urged Chioma to step up her game and form partnerships with well-known brands, which could lead to lucrative endorsement deals.

Singer, Tiwa Savage recounts challenges with her skin colour reveals She mixed creams with lemon for bleaching

According to the mother of one in a recent interview with allure magazine, she felt so much pressure being a black woman and this made her attempted bleaching by mixing different creams with lemon but her mother found out and was disappointed.

In her words;

"I actually did try to bleach my skin when I was about, I think 14 or 15 years. Even now I have patches on my back. My mom was cleaning my room and saw the cream that I used to mix with lemons. She wasn't angry. it was more her disappointment. So I stopped but I was always insecure about being dark"

Speaking further, the 41-year-old said;

"I have a platform and I'm digging more into my responsibility for younger people," she says. . When I started my career I wasn't embracing who I was fully yet because I was just trying to crack into the market," she says. "My first two singles were very American and it wasn't very African. But then, as time went on, I just started seeing how powerful my platform was and how mothers would say, 'My little girl really looks up to you.'

"And I feel like there's so much pressure now and it's going to get even worse with social media and there needs to be a balance. There need to be some people that are not too perfect. I know we want to look good. I don't want to be out there looking jacked up, but I also want to look relatable." she revealed.

Hollywood actor, Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and his wife Lauren Hashian have purchased a new mansion in California's North Beverly Park.

The Rock purchased the home from actor and comedian Paul Reiser. Before Reiser owned it was owned by Alex Van Halen, who built the home in 1993.

This small town is home to a fascinating history and tourist attractions.

Ado-Awaye has been gaining media attention for a while now, after it was found to house the only other suspended lake in the world.

Rich in history and culture, Ado-Awaye is quickly becoming the tourist's paradise. From its formation to its mountains and plains, everything about the small town in Oyo state is a wonder.

According to Atabo, an adventurer who visited Ado-Awaye to learn about its history, the town was formed in 1500 AD.

The Alaafin of Oyo's crown prince, Koyi, who was supposed to become the Alaafin was denied and his younger brother, Onigbogi, took over.

In anger, he left Oyo with one of his father's crowns and decided to go and settle in Otta, his mother's town. However, he went through plain grounds until he got foot of the Ado Hill, where he saw a smoke.

He climbed the mountain and there, he met some escapees from the Dahomey war. Having agreed and discussed with them, they decided to make him King of Ado.

In this article, we highlight the tourist attractions that make Ado-Awaye a wonder.

1. Iyake Lake
Iyake Lake is the only recognized suspended/hanging lake in Africa – one of the only two in the world after the Hanging Lake in Colorado. It has been named as one of the fascinating sites to visit in Nigeria as well as one of the seven wonders of Nigeria. It is said to be bottomless and have swallowed those who have tried to measure its depth.

Till today, whoever enters the lake never comes out of it. It is said to be the main god of fertility of the Mountain.

The villagers believe that beneath the lake exists another world that looks like the earth, and whoever transits into that world by diving into the lake will never be able to return to our own world again.

2. Agbómofúnyàké
Agbómofúnyàké literally means "collects child and gives to iyake". This little hole is located just beside the iyake lake. It is believed that, whenever the hole has water in it, whoever puts his leg into it gets dragged to the bottom of iyake lake.

3. Ìyá-Aláró Lake
It is also one of the numerous lakes on the mountain. The lake was named after an old woman in the Ado-Awaye village, who specializes in dying of clothes.

It is said that the old woman, known as "Iya Alaro", worships the lakes and sacrifices to it at specific times during the year.

The lake is characterized by a gloomy depth which underscores its association with Iya Alaro and its surface and surrounding is bedecked with a lush overgrowth of colourful vegetation.

4. Oke Ishage (Ishage Rock)
Ishage Rock is the bringer of rain for the Ado-Awaye people. It is a large elongated boulder of rock, balanced and standing upright on one of its small edges.

The fact that this boulder has not fallen off the steep mountain side on which it rests remains a mystery to the Ado-Awaye people and tourists visiting the mountain.

Whenever it doesn't rain and rain is needed, the chief priest goes to the rock, covers the "waist" of the rock with a white cloth, then rain falls for 3-4 days straight.

5. Esè àwon Àgbà
Esè àwon Àgbà translates to "the footprint of the elders". It is a cluster of large "footprints" found all over the mountain. It is believed that the gods once walked over the mountain to protect the locals during the time the locals stayed up the mountain.

6. The Elephant Tree
This is composed of the tangled trunk or root of a fallen tree which dramatically takes the form of the head and trunk of an elephant.

The eyes of the elephant are also well represented on the formation. Hikers on the mountain are often tempted to climb the formation and sit on the 'elephant's head' while posing for photos.

7. Esè kan Aiyé Esè kan Òrun
This is a wide and deep chasm on the mountain which separates one part of the mountain from the other part which hosts the peak of the mountain.

Only brave mountain climbers dare cross this valley as the rock slopes steeply along the valley walls. Only a narrow, very steep and slippery path across the valley, links the two parts of the mountain.

After a 34-year vacancy on the seat of office, a newly installed Alado of Ado-Awaye, Oyo State, Oba Ademola Folakanmi, Makuledoye II, speaks to the Tribune on tourism in the town. He says:

"All these places are amusing and should have attracted tourists from all over the world, if they had been given attention.

Unfortunately, the governments both at the state and federal levels have not been able to harness the tourism potential of the country.

We started Nigeria with agriculture; now, cocoa and groundnut are gone. We switched to crude oil and oil will go too. But tourism will last forever; so I encourage the government to develop the tourism potential of Ado-Awaye."

RLJE Films has debuted the official trailer for David Oyelowo's directorial debut 'The Water Man'.

Recall the production company scooped the film in partnership with Netflix a few months back.

Starring Oyelowo, Lonnie Chavis, Rosario Dawson and Amiah Miller, the Emma Needell scripted feature follows the story of Gunner (Lonnie Chavis), who sets out on a quest to help his ill mother recover by going in search of the Water man, a mythic figure who possesses the secret to immortality.

The film is set to have a limited theatrical release on May 7, 2021 with Netflix set to release internationally.

Editi Effiong wraps up production for 'The Black Book'

The feature film was shot in Lagos and Kaduna.

Nollywood producer, Editi Effiong has unveiled his latest project, a political thriller titled 'The Black Book'.

The 'Up North' producer announced the official wrap of principal photography on Thursday via Twitter.

"After two years of writing, a year of pre-production, working with an incredible cast and crew from 6 countries since January in Lagos and Kaduna... IT'S A WRAP (!!!) from the set of #TheBlackBook, my first feature film as a director," Effiong wrote.

According to reports, filming for the new project kicked off in January with its impressive cast which include Sam Dede, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Shaffy Bello and Ade Laoye.

Prior to the star-studded feature film, Effiong released his short film directorial debut 'Fishbone' with Shaffy Bello and Daniel Etim Effiong in lead roles. The acclaimed film centered on a ruthless drug lord and a passionate law enforcement agent's attempt to end the cartel.

African Migos features HKN act, Danagog on new single, 'One Time'

YouTube suspends TB Joshua’s channel, Facebook takes action too

Prophet T.B Joshua's YouTube account has been suspended over some videos shared on the channel.

Premium Times had reported that between 2016 and January 2020, the channel posted at least seven clips showing the charismatic Christian televangelist engaging in violent exorcism to 'cure' gay and lesbian congregants of their sexual orientation by casting out "the demon of homosexuality".

YouTube suspended the channel which had more than 1.8 million subscribers on April 12, after openDemocracy contacted it to ask whether some of the contents violated the platform's community guidelines.

A YouTube spokesperson told openDemocracy;

"YouTube's Community Guidelines prohibit hate speech and we remove flagged videos and comments that violate these policies. In this case we have terminated the channel.

"YouTube prohibits content which alleges that someone is mentally ill, diseased, or inferior because of their membership in a protected group including sexual orientation."

Daina Rudusa, spokesperson for OutRight Action International, the global LGBTIQ human rights organisation also said;

"It is great to see social media platforms take a greater role in tackling these harmful practices by banning accounts spouting hate speech and promoting conversion practices.

"So-called conversion therapy is neither therapy, nor does it result in conversion" and it has been recognised as being "tantamount to torture."

It was also learnt that Facebook took action against some of T.B Joshua's contents. Unlike YouTube which suspended the ministries' entire channel, Facebook said it "removed a number of pieces of content from this page for violating these policies".

Facebook company spokesperson said;

"We don't allow attacks against people based on their sexual orientation or gender identity, including content promoting conversion therapy services.

"We take attacks on the LGBT+ community incredibly seriously and encourage people to report this kind of content when they see it so we can investigate."

When openDemocracy asked TB Joshua Ministries to comment on its pastor's actions towards LGBT people, and on its YouTube channel being terminated for hate speech, the ministry did not respond. However, it has launched a social media campaign to contest the decision which it claims was "made in haste."

TB Joshua however confirmed that his YouTube channel was suspended in a tweet he shared. He wrote;

EMMANUEL TV YOUTUBE SUSPENSION: Our mission is to share the love of God with everyone – irrespective of race or religion – and we strongly oppose all forms of hate speech! We have had a long and fruitful relationship with YouTube and believe this decision was made in haste.


On Facebook, he urged his church members to raise their concerns over his channel's suspension on other social media platforms.

Germany picks Ghana as location for its West African centre for global health

Ghana has been chosen as the location for Germany's West African Centre for Global Health and Pandemic Prevention.

German ambassador to Ghana, Christoph Retzlaff disclosed this in a tweet he shared on Thursday April 15. He added that the Ghanaian centre is one of eighth others worldwide.

The announcement came days after social media giant, Twitter also announced that it will siting its African headquarters in Ghana.

The tweet read;

"Excellent news: Germany will support launch of a new "German-West African Center for Global Health and Pandemic Prevention.

"It will be located in Ghana and be part of 8 new centers worldwide to fight global challenges."

Rapper CDQ Curse Those Behind His Arrest For Drug Possession

Hours after his release, rapper CDQ is still furious about his arrest by NDLEA officials.

Recall that on Wednesday, April 14, he was picked up from his Lekki home for allegedly been in possession of a banned substance, Cannabis, known as "loud" in local parlance.

In a tweet posted this evening, CDQ averred that some persons are behind the false accusation and prayed that their actions would boomerang on them and their family.

"My mum just said mio leyan shugbon mo ni Olohun. eleshe nimi o shugbon mio ba t'eda je ri. fi gbogbo ija e le fun Olohun whoever is behind all these false accusations it shall boomerang on them and their family… They can't spoil d name I built with sweat n blood. Yeh Yeh"

He was granted bail last night but is expected to be back in NDLEA custody today April 15.

Father Of AKA’s Fiancée Speaks At Daughter’s Funeral Service, Says She Did Not Commit Suicide

Moses Tembe, a prominent South African businessman and Anele "Nelli" Tembe's father, has set the record straight on circumstances surrounding her death.

Recall that the 22-year-old died on Sunday morning, April 11, after falling from the 10th floor of the Pepperclub Hotel in Cape Town.

Nellie, who was engaged to rapper Kiernan "AKA" Forbes, is being laid to rest at the Durban International Conference Centre today, Friday April 16. Her body arrived in Durban on Thursday.

Close friends and family gathered at the Durban International Conference Centre on Friday morning to pay their final respects to Nelli.


An emotionally-charged letter from Moses was read out by businessman Sandile Zungu, who said the letter was a reflection of a "heartbroken father".

"As Anele's father, I categorically state that Anele was neither suicidal nor did she commit suicide. We must as a matter of priority deal with the scourge that bedevils our youth. Alcohol which is overused and drugs. Fellow South Africans we better wake up and smell the coffee, we have a serious problem with substance abuse." he wrote.

"I cannot allow an unfortunate narrative to go unchallenged, a narrative that irks me to no end … that is 'Anele was chronically suicidal'. All I can say is, until Anele turned 21, not a single member of her family, my family would have associated her with suicide."


He said Anele's wish was to fall in love and marry the man who would become the father of her children, adding that they differed on the direction she should take in her life but he stood by her.

Moses said he was happy for her when she introduced him to Kiernan and suggested they go for proper premarital counselling.

"I knew Kiernan loved my daughter but their companionship needed more than love. It had to be premised and embedded on a Godly foundation."

He said he was proud to be Anele's father.

"Anele made me happy as a father, very happy. Anele was feisty, strong-willed some might say. She was single-minded in her pursuits, what others would uncritically call stubborn. Anele never minced her words, an attribute that would perturb her siblings, which she balanced by giving her absolute best to those around her."

"In my deepest desire that my girl live to be who she wanted to be, I nurtured these Anele traits. For I truly believed that she had needed guidance rather than repression, persuasion rather than brute force," he said.

Afia Schwarzenegger Lauds Child Rights International For Dragging Actress, Akuapem Poloo To Court Over Nudity

After popular Ghanaian actress Rosemond Brown, better known as Akuapem Poloo, was sentenced to three months in prison by an Accra Circuit Court over the publication of obscene material and domestic violence, Ghanaian media personality Afia Schwarzenegger has reacted.

Schwarzenegger hailed Child Rights International for dragging actress Akuapem Poloo to court, then she slammed those celebrities calling for the actress' freedom.
 
Akuapem Poloo was today, April 16, sentenced to 3 months in jail for snapping naked with her son and posting it online to wish him a happy 7th birthday last June.

Though she shared multiple posts after to justify her actions, including positing photos of American celebrities who snap naked with their kids, Child Rights International dragged her to court for her action.

She pleaded guilty and was convicted then sentenced.


Reacting hours before Akuapem was convicted, Afia said Child Rights International's action is a step in the right direction as she believes it will benefit the actress' son who is the center of the ongoing scandal.

Speaking in an interview on Accra based radio station Okay FM, Afia said: "I do not speak on issues already in court and clearly this is not my business but I am just congratulating the Child Right International for their action that for once someone has risen to defend the rights of a child."

Speaking on the ongoing social media campaign to #FreeAkuapemPoloo, Afia said celebrities engaging in the campaign are ignorant of the fact that the nation is governed by laws. She added that the accused was wrong by exposing her son to nudity.

"Is it fair to take a nude picture with your own child, I honestly don't want to talk about this and I have taken a stand with the Child Rights International and not people who are ignorant of the law and have taken to social media to campaign on herself," she stated.

She further stated that those fighting for Akuapem are "blockheaded" and illiterates who are only fighting for the release of an abusive mother who is supposed to go to jail for her crime.
