William And Harry Slam BBC Over ‘Deceitful’ Diana Interview

Posted: 23 May 2021 03:30 AM PDT

Prince William and Prince Harry have both released scathing public statements in response to an inquiry into their mother's notorious 1995 interview with the BBC.

An inquiry found that BBC covered up "deceitful behaviour" used by journalist Martin Bashir to secure his exclusive interview with Princess Diana, and "fell short of high standards of integrity and transparency".

The journalist was in "serious breach" of the BBC's producer guidelines when he faked bank statements and showed them to Earl Spencer, the younger brother of Diana, to gain access to the princess in 1995, the inquiry found.

In response, both of Diana's sons have made public statements expressing anger.

Prince Harry, 36, said in his statement: "Our mother was an incredible woman who dedicated her life to service.

"She was resilient, brave, and unquestionably honest. The ripple effect of a culture of exploitation and unethical practices ultimately took her life.

"To those who have taken some form of accountability, thank you for owning it.

"That is the first step towards justice and truth. Yet what deeply concerns me is that practices like these – and even worse- are still widespread today. Then, and now, it's bigger than one outlet, one network, or one publication.

"Our mother lost her life because of this, and nothing has changed. By protecting her legacy, we protect everyone, and uphold the dignity with which she lived her life. Let's remember who she was and what she stood for."

Harry's older brother, Prince William, criticized the BBC for its failings around his mother's Panorama interview, which he says exacerbated her "fear, paranoia and isolation".

William said he was left with "indescribable sadness" to know the corporation's shortcomings had "contributed significantly" to Diana, Princess of Wales' state of mind in the final years of her life.

"She was failed not just by a rogue reporter, but by leaders at the BBC who looked the other way rather than asking the tough questions," William said.

William added that his mother's appearance on Panorama contributed to "making my parents' relationship worse".

He called for the documentary never to be aired again and said the BBC's failings had not only let his mother and family down but the public as well.

William said in his statement: "The interview was a major contribution to making my parents' relationship worse and has since hurt countless others.

"It brings indescribable sadness to know that the BBC's failures contributed significantly to her fear, paranoia and isolation that I remember from those final years with her.

"But what saddens me most, is that if the BBC had properly investigated the complaints and concerns first raised in 1995, my mother would have known that she had been deceived."

He ended with the words: "In an era of fake news, public service broadcasting and a free press have never been more important. These failings, identified by investigative journalists, not only let my mother down, and my family down; they let the public down too."

The BBC has written to the royal family to apologise for the circumstances surrounding the interview – in which Diana said: "Well, there were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded", a reference to Camilla Parker Bowles – who Charles later married.

Personal expressions of regret have been sent to the Queen, Prince of Wales, the dukes of Cambridge and Sussex, and Diana's brother Earl Spencer.

Lady Gaga Reveals She Had A Total Psychotic Break’ After Being Raped By A Record Producer

Posted: 23 May 2021 03:00 AM PDT

In an heartbreaking interview on the premiere episode of Oprah Winfrey and Prince Harry's mental health docuseries The Me You Can't See on Apple TV+, American music star, Lady Gaga has opened up on one of her darkest moments.

The award winning pop star disclosed that she was raped at 19 by a music producer who "dropped [her] off pregnant on a corner" following months of abuse.

Lady Gaga spoke through tears as she recalled her trauma during the appearance. She recounted how the producer threatened to burn her music if she didn't take her clothes off.

The singer said;

"They didn't stop asking me, and then I just froze, and I just – I don't even remember.

"I do not ever want to face that person again."

Gaga further said that her buried pain manifested in a physical way that caused numbing in her body. She added;

"And then I was sick for weeks and weeks after.

"And I realized that it was the same pain that I felt when the person who raped me dropped me off pregnant on a corner, at my parent's house, 'cause I was vomiting and sick, 'cause I had been being abused. I was locked away in a studio for months."

It wasn't until years later, when Gaga began experiencing chronic pain for which her doctor advised her to see a psychiatrist. She then discovered she was suffering from PSTD, a diagnosis which the singer first went public with in 2016 and previously discussed with Oprah during Winfrey's 2020 Vision: Your Life in Focus tour.

She added;

"First I felt full-on pain, then I went numb. I realized it was the same pain I felt when the person who raped me dropped me off pregnant on the corner, at my parents' house, because I was vomiting and sick. Because I was being abused. I was locked away in a studio for months.

"I had a total psychotic break, and for a couple years, I was not the same girl.

"Even if I have six brilliant months, all it takes is getting triggered once to feel bad.

"And when I say I feel bad, I mean I want to cut. Think about dying. Wondering if I'm ever going to do it. I learned all the ways to pull myself out of it.

"What's so interesting is the line I walk, feeling like I wanna cut myself and feeling like I don't, are actually real close together.

"Everybody thinks it's gotta be a straight line, that it's like every other virus, that you get sick and then you get cured. It's not like that. It's just not like that. And actually, I think that traps people.

"I don't tell this story for my own self-service, because, to be honest, it's hard to tell.

"I feel a lot of shame about it. How do I explain to people that I have privilege, I've got money, I've got power, and I'm miserable? How do you do that? I'm not here to tell my story to you because I want anybody to cry for me. I'm good. But open your heart up for somebody else. Because I'm telling you, I've been through it and people need help. So, that's part of my healing, being able to talk to you."

Gaga first revealed her sexual assault in a 2014 radio interview with Howard Stern. She however, didn't name her abuser.
