How to make Akwa Ibom's Abak Atama soup

Abak Atama soup is a dish popular amongst the Ibibios in Akwa Ibom.

The palm fruit used for the Abak Atama Soup is extracted at very low temperatures and is a mixture of oil and water.

The name Abak Atama is derived from the two dominant ingredients palm fruit and atama leaves. The palm fruit extract used in cooking Abak Atama Soup is quite different from the red palm oil used in cooking Nigerian food recipes.

The palm fruit used for the Abak Atama Soup is extracted at very low temperatures and is a mixture of oil and water.

Ingredients
Beef

Smoked fish

Pomo (Cow skin)

Stockfish

Periwinkle in shell

Atama leaves

Palm fruit

Ground crayfish

Uyayak (local spice)

Seasoning

Water

Salt and pepper

Preparation
Step 1: Wash periwinkles, then wash and boil the palm fruits for 30 minutes.

Strain off the water and pound the palm fruit until the pulp/fibre separates from the nuts.

Step 2: Boil some water and add to the pounded palm fruit, then mix thoroughly to separate the oily extract from the rest of the pulp, then strain.

Step 3: Wash, cut up and season your meat with salt, seasoning and pepper, then steam for about 5 minutes on low heat. Then add about 1½ cups of water and the stockfish and continue boiling for about 20 minutes till the meat is almost cooked, and remove from heat.

Step 4: Cut the Atama leaves into tiny pieces. Pound them for about 10 minutes till the leaves are finely pounded. Then place the palm fruit extract on the burner and allow to boil for about 5 minutes to remove all moisture.

Step 5: Add cooked meat, smoked fish, meat stock, periwinkle, crayfish, pepper, seaoning and Uyayak. Stir and allow to boil for about 10 minutes.

Step 6: Add the atama leaves and boil for another 10 minutes. Step 7: Stir and add salt to taste. Allow to cook for 10 minutes or until slightly thick.

Remove from heat and serve.

Seun Kuti Says The Yoruba’s Can Break Away From Nigeria Through A Referendum

Seun, son of Afrobeat legend, Fela Kuti, has suggested a way the Yoruba nation can actualize Oduduwa Republic.

He said the Southwest can break away from Nigeria through a referendum.

Seun who spoke during a live video on Instagram, insisted that Nigeria can be divided without killings and war.

He says : "England just left the EU recently; did they fight anyone before leaving? The Scottish are agitating to leave England. Why are they not saying they want to fight war before they can leave England? Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying these people don't fight but understand the narrative.

"Referendums now put the decision in the hands of the people.

"If Nigeria truly wants to divide we must pose it in a referendum program, yes or no vote to all the people in this country so that we can make our argument for and against and the people would be carried along every step of the way because we will need them to make the final decision.

"If the Yoruba people want to leave Nigeria, it is not overnight. Anybody wey tell you say Yoruba people can leave Nigeria over a ten-year period, that person is trying to put you in another long jump. Our problem needs like fifty years of dedication to see front before everything balance."

"Even before we do constitutional conferences, democratically in any country, before you do a constitutional review, you must put it to the people, the people will now decide a yes or no vote for the review before you carry your review forward.

"But when only a handful of people want to make decisions for hundreds of millions of people, this is what you now get. Everybody is only discussing one angle, one way of separating Nigeria which will kill millions of us in the name of separating Nigeria."

Actor Eddie Watson Loses Mother, Shares Emotional Video

Nigerian movie star, Eddie Watson Jnr recently took to social media to sadly announce the death of his mother.

The actor who shared the sad news on Instagram, described his mother as an "angel". Eddie also shared an emotional video which captured some of their happy moments together.

It was gathered that she gave up the ghost on May 27, 2021. In some parts of the video, the actor was seen tending to his mother at the hospital, feeding her, laughing with her and many more touching moments.

In the caption of the short clip, Eddie explained how much he was affected by his mother's death. He said his heart felt a pain he never knew existed.

He wrote;

Days after revealing that he had been suffering from a strange illness for over 2 years, Deyemi Okanlawon, a Nollywood actor and brand influencer, has advised his fellow men to pause and learn to think about themselves too so as to take care of themselves even as providers.

The talented thespian took to his Twitter account to reveal that men never choose to be providers, so the whole burden of providing for the family should be paused sometimes. This is to enable men to think and take care for themselves, including their physical and mental health.

According to him, this can also be done by visiting therapists and having alone time.

Releasing photos, the singer's girlfriend, Jennifer Goicoechea announced on Instagram that they are expecting another child.

Bill Cosby, 83, Denied Parole After Failing To Participate In ‘Sex Offender’ Therapy Program

US comedian, Bill Cosby was denied parole in his sex assault case this month due to his failure to complete a prison program for sex offenders, the Pennsylvania Parole Board has said.

Cosby, 83, was convicted in 2018 of drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand at his suburban Pennsylvania mansion in 2004.

He was later sentenced to three to 10 years in state prison.

The comedian isn't eligible for release until Sept. 25 at the earliest, but the board starts interviewing candidates three to five months in advance and spoke to Cosby by video conference on May 7, board spokeswoman Laura Treaster told the NewYork Daily News on Thursday.

Laura Treaster said they denied his parole following the interview.

In a letter detailing its decision, the board cited Cosby's failure to complete the therapy, failure to develop a parole release plan and a "negative recommendation" from corrections officials.

The next time Cosby goes before the board, officials will look to see whether he has "successfully participated in/successfully completed a treatment program for sex offenders and violence prevention," the letter shared by Treaster said.

Cosby's longtime spokesman, Andrew Wyatt, said the decision "was not a surprise" after Cosby refused to participate in what he called a "sexually violent predator" course.

"Mr. Cosby has vehemently proclaimed his innocence and continues to deny all allegations made against him," Wyatt said Thursday.

"Today, Mr. Cosby continues to remain hopeful that the Pennslyvania State Supreme Court will issue an opinion to vacate his conviction or warrant him a new trial."
