5 natural remedy for oily skin

Posted: 14 Jun 2021 08:00 AM PDT

Sebum is an oily substance made of fats. And it is believed that oily skin is the result of overproduction of sebum from sebaceous glands.

Although sebum help protect and moisturize the skin, yet an overproduction of it may lead to oily skin which can lead to clogged pores and acne.

And studies have shown that stress, fried food, processed food, and sugary substances are among the factors that increased the production of sebum.

However, when sebum is caused by genetics or hormones, it becomes very tough to prevent.

Be that as it may, there are natural remedies that can help reduce the symptoms of oily skin without the use of drugs or expensive skin-care regimen. Read on to see the natural remedies for oily skin.

Here are five natural remedies for oily skin

1. Aloe Vera
The usefulness of Aloe Vera cannot be overemphasized. Widely known for soothing burns and other skin conditions, Aloe Vera is very useful when it comes to reducing the symptoms of oily skin.

As a matter of fact, there's good scientific evidence that it helps treat flaky skin caused by oily patches.

Procedure for reducing the symptom of oily skin with Aloe Vera

Apply a thin layer to your face before bedtime

Leave it on until morning

Rinse face with water

Note

It is believed that Aloe Vera triggers allergic reaction on sensitive skin. So, it is, therefore, advisable to test a small amount on your forearm if you have not used aloe vera before.

If no reaction appears within 24 to 48 hours it should be safe to use.

2 . Orange
Orange peels are rich in astringent properties which restrict the excess oil secretion. The vitamin C present in it prevents wrinkles and makes your skin fresh and soft.

Procedures for reducing the oily skin with orange

Let the orange peels dry under the sun until crisp.

Blend them into fine powder.

Combine orange peel powder and rose water to make a paste.

Spread a layer of the paste on the skin and leave it on for 15 minutes.

Rinse off with water and pat dry.

Extra tip
The application of orange juice to the body help provides fair and younger looking skin. And for effective result, apply orange juice directly on the skin or mix it with any other natural ingredients.

3. Tomatoes
Though this might seem ridiculous, but it is true. Tomatoes contain salicylic acid, a common acne home remedy.

The acids in tomatoes does not only help absorb excess skin oils, it also help unclog pores.

Procedure for reducing the symptom of oily skin with tomatoes

Combine one teaspoon sugar with the pulp of 1 tomato.

Apply to the skin in a circular motion.

Leave the mask on for 5 minutes.

Rinse thoroughly with tepid water and pat dry.

4. Honey
When it comes to skin remedy, honey is one of nature's most revered agent. With its antibacterial and antiseptic abilities, honey is great for oily and acne-prone skin.

As a natural humectant, it helps keep the skin moist but not oily. And this is because humectants draw moisture from the skin without replacing it.

Procedure for reducing the symptom of oily skin with honey

Spread a thin layer, preferably raw, onto your face

Let it dry for about 10 minutes

Rinse thoroughly with tepid water.

5. Wash your face Tomatoes

Obviously, many people with oily skin don't wash their face daily. As a matter of fact, it is expected of you to wash your face, at least, twice a day if your skin is oily.

However, it important that you avoid the use of harsh soaps or detergents when you do.

Historical of Queen Amina Zaria, A Myth?

Posted: 14 Jun 2021 05:30 AM PDT

Queen Amina was popularly called 'a woman like a man' by her people. She was the first Queen (Sarauniya) of the Hausas of Northern Nigeria and one of its best.

Who is Queen Amina?

Born in the 16th Century to the ruling family of Barwa Turunku, Amina became Queen after her brother died.

She was focused on military conquest and expanded her kingdom greatly. She took over neighbouring tribes like the Nupes.

She ruled Kano and Katsina from Zaria. Her goal was to extend her power beyond Zaria and turn the conquered territories into vassal lands.

Her time was one of the most prosperous in the land. There was an abundance of gold, slaves, metal workers, and crops.

She also built a lot of walls that legitimized her power over the people.

Queen Amina never got married or gave birth but captured temporary husbands from cities she conquered. She died in a battle at Atagora near Bida in Nigeria.

Some people have argued that Queen Amina was just a myth and she never existed.

There are evidence to prove her existence;

Oral Tradition
The legend of Queen Amina was passed from one generation to the others orally. In pre-colonial African society, information was passed across generations only orally.

Elderly people would sit younger people down and talk about the history of the land and legends who lived in times past.

Old buildings and Ruins
In present-day Zaria, there are buildings and ruins known as Queen Amina's palace. These palaces include grounds where she trained for her military battles.

Amina's walls
The walls that she built around cities still exists today, they are fondly called Ganuwar Amina or Amina's walls

Documentary evidence
The second sultan of Sokoto, Mohammed Bello wrote about Queen's Amina style of leadership in his book Infakul Maisuri (the wages of the fortunate)

Do you think she existed or she was made up? History is passed from one generation to another and learnt from documents, excavations and observation. It would appear that history leans in favour of the existence of Queen Amina.

Actor Femi Branch shades Yemi Solade over his comments on Twitter ban, says he needs to have his head examined

Posted: 14 Jun 2021 05:00 AM PDT

Branch says it is only someone who is not progressive that would approve the government's ban on Twitter.

Nollywood actor Femi Branch has shaded his colleague Yemi Solade over his recent comments on the ban of Twitter in the country.

Solade had applauded the government's ban of the social media platform, insisting that it insulted the president of the country.

Branch in a video shared via his Instagram page on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, said he didn't want to comment on the Twitter ban, but after hearing the comments of someone, he felt compelled to express himself.

"I just want to express myself on the whole Twitter ban, I said I was not going to say anything, but after hearing the comment of someone I don't want to mention the name, I feel compelled to say something, very quickly, there is nothing good about the Twitter ban," he said.

"It is only those that are working or supporting for the government that will see nothing wrong with the action of the government. We all know the role Twitter plays in our life as people, especially young people. In terms of job and expressing themselves."

"It is only someone who is not progressive that will say the ban is a good thing, and Twitter has helped to save a life when things are happening in some extreme party of the country, passing information that can save lives, helps in creating awareness."

"It is not good for the country and the image. Trump was removed from Twitter, but he didn't ban Twitter, if you are a private individual and you see nothing wrong with the Twitter ban, I think you need to examine your brain."

It would be recalled that the federal government suspended the social media platform on Friday, June 4, 2021.

According to the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, Twitter's actions are capable of undermining Nigeria's corporate existence.

According to reports, the monarch was "never asked" her opinion on her grandson's decision to name their second child after her.

Responding to the Palace source, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's official spokesman said: "The Duke spoke with his family in advance of the announcement, in fact his grandmother was the first family member he called."

"During that conversation, he shared their hope of naming their daughter Lilibet in her honor. Had she not been supportive, they would not have used the name."

The couple welcomed their second child over the weekend and named her after the queen and Harry's late mother, Diana.
