Florence Ita-Giwa is a Phenomenal Woman on the Cover of Media Room Hub’s May Issue

Posted: 03 Jun 2021 12:30 AM PDT

Former Nigerian senator, founder of Bakasi Children Foundation and Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), Florence Ita-Giwa is the cover star for Media Room Hub's May issue.

In this interview, the fashion enthusiast and philanthropist opens up about joining politics after the death of her journalist husband Dele Giwa, her thoughts on the result of the #ENDSARS protest, championing the cause of having more women in politics, being 75 and so much more.

Describing Florence, Media Room Hub says,

Over the years, Ita has continued to dedicate her life to the service of others and Nigeria as a country. Her fight against injustice, sexual molestation, child trafficking and corruption is such we can't readily put to words.
She's also remain resilient towards ensuring that the people of Bakasi who were displaced during the ceding of their land to Cameroon, get justice. Thus, she's continued to cater for the Baskasi children through her foundation.

Read excerpts from the interview below:

Why did you decide to join politics when you had the option of venturing into other things?

My joining politics was the inevitable outcome of my convictions and upbringing. I trained as a nurse and at a stage in my life became a businesswoman involved in the medical field. In fact, it was my passion for alleviating human suffering that took me into the medical field, it was that same passion that spurred me into politics when I saw the deprivation of my people of Bakassi. I felt the need to do all in my power to mitigate their hardship and I concluded that politics was the most effective platform of serving the interest of my people.

Why did you decide to join Mediaroomhub in hosting Laycon

I have always been supportive of enterprising youths in the entertainment industry and the media because both institutions, the media, and entertainment have been extremely good to me politically. So when mediaroomhub asked for my support I didn't hesitate to offer it.

lot Nigerian women who are having fertility issues or are unable to mother kids are not open to adopting children due to "what people would say". What advice do you have for them seeing you've adopted some yourself?

Straight away let me dispel this notion that infertility is a condition that anyone can be stigmatized about. These days technology has provided solutions to the problem be it IVF or surrogacy even an incompetent uterus can be reversed these days. I doff my hat for women who embraced available means to overcome obstacles to motherhood. That said, adoption should equally not attract stigma. You don't have to adopt children because of infertility issues, adoption is a way of extending love and affection to children in unfortunate circumstances. I adopted many children from the creeks of Bakassi out of compassion and today I feel fulfilled as many of them have turned out to be productive members of society while I still enjoy the doting affection of two 7-year-olds in my care. The youngest child in my care Zelyo who was just two years old was recently adopted by a gracious German lady and is in Germany as we speak. I urge Nigerians to embrace the culture of adopting children more especially the deprived children of Bakassi. Every child deserves to be loved.

Your support to the growth of entertainment in Nigeria is commendable. What do you think is lacking in the industry right now and what's should be the way forward?

First of all allow me to congratulate the young entertainers who just did us proud at the Grammy Awards. That done, I wish to commend our artistes for the culture of collaboration they have evolved. It is my desire that they may continue on the path of unity and collaboration. They should shun unhealthy rivalry and be more accommodating of each other. Going forward I suggest that as their fame and fortune rises they ought to see themselves as positive role models and behave accordingly.

What's your take on the outcome of the #ENDSARS protest?

During the #EndSars protest, the youths were angry and were destroying properties belonging to politicians especially in Calabar to a point where you came out to appease them. With that kind of scary incident, don't you think that there's hunger in the land and the youths are angry at the elites? Should such event happen again, what are your fears? What do you think would happen? Also, how do we ensure such doesn't happen again?

"I don't want to see you do awwww awwww to any of those pictures or videos. You send money and gifts. Sometimes it is not all about money. Your presence is all that matters. Before I added you to the group, you promised you were going to come," she replied.

Ogbodo's baby shower was held over the weekend and had her celebrity friends and colleagues in attendance.

The movie star is expecting her second child with her partner.

Actress Yetunde Bakare — Why It Is Childish To Wait For Men To Demand Sex In Relationships

Posted: 02 Jun 2021 05:00 AM PDT

Nollywod actress, Yetunde Bakare, speaks on why women should not be shy about initiating sex with their partners,

Speaking during an interview with Sunday Scoop, Bakare said, that waiting for one's partner to make the first move in sex is childish.

She said, "Waiting for one's partner to make the (first) move is childish. Women have their moments too. There are times we (women) feel sexually aroused and if one does not make a move, one's partner is not a witch and would not be able to guess what's going on with one.

"That's why some women have terrible mood swings. They want it (sex) but feel too shy or proud to ask for it. If one's partner is one's best friend, asking for sex should not be a big deal."

The actress also debunked the claims made by some that Nollywood is not lucrative. She said, "I disagree (with that) absolutely.

If it was not a lucrative business, there wouldn't be any successful filmmaker. However, we have people like Funke Akindele, Mo Abudu and Kemi Adetiba, who have shown that one can be successful in Nollywood. If one makes a good movie with high standards, one would definitely enjoy doing the business."

The role interpreter, who is active on social media, also noted being on such platforms had affected her positively. She added, "Being on social media has affected me positively and it has also changed a few things about me. People close to me know that I neither keep friends nor go out a lot. However, mixing with people on social media has been good for me. Negativity does not get to me because I have a thick skin and I don't take anything to heart. I simply use the 'block button' and that ends it."

Bakare also noted that she had lost roles because some people believed that dark skin wasn't camera friendly. "I lost a lot of roles back in the days because they believed dark skin was not camera friendly. But, I thank God that a lot of things have changed. Now, talent is all that matters".

On whether she can act as an influencer for a sex enhancement product, she said, "Yes, I can be a social media influencer for sex enhancement products. I think it is about time we start talking about it because sex is one of the fundamentals of marriage."

Samuel Ajibola - Real Reason I Dumped ‘Spiff’

Posted: 02 Jun 2021 04:30 AM PDT

Many fans were shocked when actor, Samuel Ajibola, announced that he was quitting his role as 'Spiff' in the popular television series, The Johnsons.

The character, Spiff, is an adopted son. He appears to be mentally impaired and eats excessively.

His announcement caught many by surprise, even as it attracted diverse comments.

Speaking with Sunday Scoop, Ajibola, who started his career as a kid actor, said, "Some people think that marriage made me leave The Johnsons but that's far from the truth. It is very important for everyone to have a direction for their lives.

"I believe there is a time and purpose for everything. 10 years is a significant amount of time and I have given all that I can in depicting the 'Spiff' character. I realised that my purpose for the show has been fulfilled and it is time for me to do other things.

"My decision had nothing to do with my marital status. My wife was very supportive of my decision. She knows I am very analytical. I am not okay with being in my comfort zone for too long. I'm adventurous and I like challenges. My family also gave me their blessings.
\

"I know a lot of people might have different opinions about this but I am not moved by that. Being Spiff is not the ultimate. I have bigger purposes to fulfil in life and time is of the essence. I have a lot of things in the 'bag' and I'm not quitting acting."

Ajibola also noted that some celebrities were going through silent battles amidst social media criticisms. He said, "If one is easily swayed by the opinions of people, one would find oneself in a difficult place.

"Bloggers have even made news quite hard to verify. Just recently, someone created a fake Twitter handle and tweeted that my wife was my former classmate. The person also claimed my wife used to put my name on the 'list of noisemakers'."

"That was not a true story but it went viral. Those are some of the things celebrities face. We all have our struggles, irrespective of one's popularity.

"For example, a lot of people did not know that the late American actor, Chadwick Boseman, was going through a lot before his death.

"They did not know that he was fighting so many battles. Humans are naturally opinionated and the negative side of social media is not helping either. The morality of some of the people who criticise others heavily on social media should be questioned.

"I have been in the industry for over 25 years. I started when I was just six years old, so I know these things. Being popular does not make one have a regular life. It comes with a lot of attention."

Socialite Pretty Mike – ‘Having S*X On A First Date Does Not Mean The Lady Is Loose Or Has No Morals’

Posted: 02 Jun 2021 04:00 AM PDT

Popular Lagos-based socialite, Mike Nwogu, also known as Pretty Mike, states that having intercourse with a lady on a first date is not a determinant of such lady's moral stands.

Pretty Mike disclosed to Sunday Scoop that he has had sex on first date several times, adding that it is part of getting to know the lady.

He said; "I have had sex on a first date plenty times. It is a normal occurrence these days. There is nothing wrong with it. Some people have asked that what happened to getting to know one another well but sexual intimacy is part of the process.

"Sometimes, sex helps in a relationship. Having sex on a first date does not mean that the lady is loose or has no morals. As a matter of fact, one can tell whether a woman has loose morals without even having sex with her."

Actress Nkechi Blessing Brands TAMPPAN’s Suspension ‘Joke Of The Century’

Posted: 02 Jun 2021 03:30 AM PDT

Chubby actress Nkechi Blessing has reacted to her suspension from the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPPAN).

Nkechi Blessing, who was penalised alongside actor Kehinde 'Lege' Adams, rubbished the penalty placed on her for ridiculing the association's image following her social media quarrel with Lege over Baba Ijesha's alleged rape.

Speaking with Sunday Scoop, Nkechi noted that since they delivered the letter to her in an Instagram post without contacting her personally, she found it to be the 'joke of the century'.

When asked about how she feels about the suspension, Nkechi said, "I don't feel any way. Firstly, an organised association should use proper measures to address a person they describe as their member. Since the letter was 'delivered' through a mere Instagram post without calling my phone or sending me an email, I consider it to be the joke of the century."

Nkechi also maintained that she would not appeal to the association. She said, "Appease who? For what? What offense did I commit? So, there is no longer freedom of speech? (Imagine them) suspending someone that left them a long time ago."

In the statement, the chairman of TAMPPAN's Guild of Directors, Damola Olatunji, directed film directors, who are members of the association, not to work with both actors until their suspension was lifted.

‘Tarzan’ Actor, Joe Lara And Wife Killed In Plane Crash

Posted: 02 Jun 2021 01:00 AM PDT

Fans of the actor Joe Lara are paying tribute after it emerged that he was among the seven people presumed to have been killed in a plane crash in Tennessee.

The 58-year-old, who played the title role in the popular Nineties series Tarzan: The Epic Adventures, died along with his wife, Gwen Shamlin Lara, 66, when a small jet, a Cessna Citation 501, crashed into a lake near the town of Smyrna.

The other victims have been named as: Jennifer J. Martin, David L. Martin, Jessica Walters, Jonathan Walters and Brandon Hannah. They were locals who were all a part of the same church.

The jet had been traveling from Smyrna Airport, located about 24 miles southeast of Nashville, to Palm Beach International Airport in Florida.

"Recovery efforts are ongoing on the lake from the Weakley Lane bridge to the Lamar Hill Boat Ramp," John Ingle, captain and incident commander of the fire and rescue team, said in an update Sunday afternoon. "We are asking all civilian boaters to stay clear of those areas."

Authorities say human remains and components of the jet have been recovered.

"The debris field is approximately a half of a mile wide," Ingle said Sunday.

According to TMZ, Emergency services worked through the night on Saturday before all the passengers were presumed dead. An investigation is underway to determine what might've caused the crash.

Joe first appeared as Tarzan in the TV movie Tarzan In Manhattan before reprising the role in the follow-up TV series.

While he was best known for Tarzan, he had many other acting credits including Steel Frontier, Sunset Heat, Gunsmoke: The Last Apache, American Cyborg: Steel Warrior, The Magnificent Seven, Baywatch and Tropical Heat.

Joe gave up acting in 2002 to pursue a career in country music.

Gwen was a diet guru and founded the Remnant Fellowship Church in 1999. She and Joe hosted their own YouTube channel, 'Life With Gwen And Joe', which gave fans an insight into their life together.

The pair married in 2018. They leave behind two grown-up children from Gwen's first marriage.
