NEXT WEEK: NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Zoom Info Sessions

The NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (NSF GRFP) provides 3 years of full support for PhD studies, with an annual stipend of $34,000, in science, math, engineering, and social/behavioral science fields.

The UMD National Scholarships Office will hold two early NSF GRFP ZOOM information sessions for students planning to apply this Fall 2021 or in subsequent years. You can learn more about the NSF GRFP award by clicking here.

Current undergraduates at all levels and recent alumni are welcome to attend, as are those who will be first or second year graduate students in Fall 2021.

Foreign Service Graduate Fellowships - Pickering/Rangel/Payne

Are you interested in joining the Foreign Service of the U.S. Department of State or the USAID Foreign Service? Do you want to make a positive change in the world?
 
The Pickering and Rangel Graduate Fellowships provide financial support through two years of graduate study, internships, mentoring, and professional development activities leading to an appointment in the Foreign Service of the U.S. Department of State.

The Payne International Development Fellowship provides similar support through two years leading to an appointment with the USAID Foreign Service.

IMPORTANT: The Pickering, Rangel, and Payne programs seek applications from students and recent graduates who are US citizens with financial need, especially those who are members of minority groups historically underrepresented in the Foreign Service.

Service Requirement: Recipients of all three programs are obligated to complete a minimum five-year term of service as a Foreign Service officer.

Eligibility requirements for all programs:
  • Applicants must be seeking admission to enter graduate school in the fall of 2022 for a two-year program at a U.S. university in an area of relevance to the Foreign Service. This now includes management. Technical fields are accepted for the Payne Fellowship program. Applicants may be in their senior year of their undergraduate studies, graduating by June 2022, or they can be college graduates.
  • Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher on a 4.0 scale at the time of application.
  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens.

To fulfill this mission EFI conducts research and analysis and preserves independent control of the methodology, content and conclusions of all projects and publications.

About the role - Executive Assistant


The Executive Assistant is critical to the smooth running of the organization by providing administrative and operational support to the CEO, Senior Principals, and the Operations Manager, to whom this role reports. This position will focus heavily on scheduling and meeting coordination for the CEO and senior principals. The Executive Assistant also provides logistical support for meetings and workshops.

This position requires strong organizational and communications skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure, contribute to a team-oriented environment, and assist the Operations Manager with the day-to-day operation of the office. The Executive Assistant maintains a high level of professionalism and confidentiality at all times, especially as they will interact regularly with high-level executives and with other organizations on scheduling matters on behalf of EFI's CEO and Senior Principals.

Responsibilities
  • Scheduling (approximately 60-65%)
  • Fields and schedules requests for meetings and event appearances for the CEO and Senior Principals
  • Books flights and hotels, and prepares travel itineraries for senior principals (once travel resumes)
  • Manages communications, invitations, and meeting acceptances for the CEO and Senior Principals, coordinating with the Communications team on the scheduling of public engagements
  • Provides a long-term and strategic view of event requests in one-on-one settings and managers' meetings
  • Administrative (approximately 20-25%)
  • Provides administrative support to the CEO, Senior Principals, and Operations Manager
  • Answer all phone calls to the EFI office line, and track inquiries and requests in the EFI Info inbox
  • Provides administrative support to the Office Administrator on a variety of day-to-day office management tasks including office supply inventory, subscriptions, invoice processing, and records management.
  • Meeting and Event Preparation (approximately 10-15%)
  • Prepares agenda and tracks notes and action items for weekly organization-wide staff meetings
  • Provides conference room scheduling, IT services, and refreshments for meetings and workshops (upon return to the office)
Qualifications
  • Experience scheduling on behalf of a senior leader
  • 2+ years of overall professional experience (we are background agnostic and are excited by candidates with unique and different work histories)
  • The ability to handle multiple deadlines and complete assignments with minimal supervision in a fast-paced workplace
  • Discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality as needed

  • Candidates must be able to start no later than September 7th, ideally sooner
We expect this role to earn a salary of $55,000-63,000 plus excellent benefits.
