5 ways to relieve a stomach ulcer at home using natural remedies

Posted: 19 Jul 2021 01:00 AM PDT

Ulcers can develop in most parts of one's body including the lining of the stomach.

Though there is no complete cure, some natural remedies can help relieve the pain and various symptoms that ulcers illicit.
Stomach ulcers are sores that develop in the lining of the stomach or part of the small intestine. Stomach ulcers are also known as peptic or gastric ulcers.

Causes of ulcers include:
an infection with Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) bacteria
long-term use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medicines and ibuprofen
Stress and spicy food can also exacerbate the symptoms of an ulcer. Although they do not cause ulcers, they can make the situation worse by increasing the amount of stomach acid produced.

1. Honey
Manuka honey has antimicrobial properties that may be useful when treating ulcers.

Honey is a popular, natural sweetener used across the United States. People who consume honey regularly can enjoy a range of health benefits.

Some use honey to speed up wound healing, including skin ulcers, burns, and wounds.

2. Aloe Vera
Aloe vera is a popular plant-based oil found in many topical lotions, cosmetics, and foods.

Some studies looking at how aloe vera affected stomach ulcers produced favorable results. Studies have also shown that aloe vera treated ulcers in a similar way to a popular anti-ulcer medication.

3. Garlic
Garlic is popular in many parts of the world for adding flavor to food. Garlic has antimicrobial and antibacterial properties, which make it helpful in fighting infections.

Some studies do support garlic's effectiveness in treating ulcers. For example, a 2016 study on animals showed that garlic could help prevent the development of ulcers and help speed up the healing process.

4. Probiotics
Probiotics are living organisms that help restore balance to the bacteria in the digestive tract. As well as helping achieve optimal gut health, they can help with treating ulcers.

When taken alongside other treatments, probiotics may help eradicate harmful bacteria.

People can find probiotics in the following sources:
yogurts
fermented foods
probiotic supplements
Some foods have probiotics in them. But, consider taking supplements as they have higher concentrations of probiotics per serving.

5. Ginger
Many believe that ginger has gastroprotective effects and some people use it to treat stomach and digestive conditions, such as constipation, bloating, and gastritis.

However, the majority of these positive results hail from tests on animals so it is not clear whether the effects would be similar in humans.

We Outside: An amusement park would bring out the child in you

Posted: 19 Jul 2021 12:30 AM PDT

Amusement parks are for everyone and not just children.

Amusement parks might seem like children's activity, but it is not. Every year millions of people visit Disney Parks because they let the child in you run wild.

Do you remember the thrill you felt as you went down a rollercoaster? Frightened and excited? Why not recreate those moments.

At amusement parks, there are a variety of things you can do. Some amusement parks have bumper cars, trains, mountain climbing exercises, rollercoasters and different types of rides.

Food and snacks are never something to worry about. Amusement parks sell a variety of things to munch on.

Best parks in Nigeria
One of the best parks I have been to is Pleasure Park in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. It has a scenic view of trees and green grass and a water pond in the middle you can kayak in!

Pleasure park has a model train, two cinemas, a climbing maze and a restaurant and bar, not to mention a lot of Bole and Fish.

Kaduna State has one of the best parks in Nigeria. When I grew up it was called Gamji park now it is called Splash Park. Splash park is a very park, it goes on for acres. You cannot walk the length and breadth, you have to go there with a vehicle.

Any ride you want is there. It has one of the scariest swings in Nigeria. If you are into a good scream this would be a perfect place for you. You would also get to enjoy the ambience, and an especially fun thing to do is watch crocodiles. How they pretend like they are dead or sleeping.

Crocodiles aren't the only animals you will get to see, you would see ostriches and other exotic animals

Abuja has so many amusement parks, it is truly hard to choose the best to visit. My picks are Wonderland and Magic land. They have a lot of rides, activities and confectionaries.

For my Lagos people, Apapa amusement park is one of the best places to have fun. According to hotels ng, "There are different types of entertaining games to keep you hooked at the park. Some include Rides, Adult Games, Junior Games, Children Games, Kart Racing, Gardens, Restaurant and Coffee shops, Snack Bars, Passages, Fountains..."

No matter your city, I am sure there are amusement parks there.

Did I miss out on your favorite amusement park? What is it?

So, this weekend if you are looking to have fun, visit an amusement park.

It's so easy to run out of outing ideas. We Outside is a content series that helps you with ideas for what to do for a fun outing. It's a series of places to go to and things to do if you want to have fun in town.

4 reasons why couples should sleep naked

Posted: 19 Jul 2021 12:00 AM PDT

Sleeping in the nude encourages people to be more emotionally intimate and open with one another.

 Improves relationships

Sleeping naked promotes intimacy among couples. Close contact with a significant other can massively boost the amount of oxytocin in your brain. This hormone is the neurotransmitter which helps you feel those impulsive good feelings to your other half.

Men's fertility
A study from the National Institute of Child Health and Development at Stanford University found that men who slept in the nude instead of wearing boxer shorts or briefs had a 25 percent lower rate of damaged DNA in their sperm than men who did wear them. Fertility may decrease as sperm gets overheated.

More steamy sex
Sex is a great form of exercise and a stress reliever. If you and your partner regularly sleep naked next to each other, the likelihood is that you'll have more sex than you would when wearing those restrictive PJs.

More refreshed mornings
Often when you wake up from a night's sleep in your preferred form of pajamas, you feel clammy and sticky from sweating during the night. Reserve the pajamas for those menstrual days.

4 types of women who deserve your loyalty for life

Posted: 18 Jul 2021 11:30 PM PDT

You'd be crazy to leave a woman who does the things listed in this article.

For men, there is often a need, a desire for a woman with whom they can build, with whom they can grow together for life.

Well, here are qualities of such woman, and my man, if you find you a woman that exhibits these and you still let her go, you may forever regret that move.

So what does a woman have to do to become indispensable?

1. She always has your back
In the Starz series, "Power", Tasha has Ghost's back so much that despite his affair with Angela Valdez she still covers for him while he and Tommy went to murder Lobos.

The point here is to create an idea in your mind of how deep loyalty lies with women.

And if you have a woman who's got your back at all times, who's got you covered come rain or shine, please you have to hold on to her.

You can't afford to let her go. It's one loss you just might never recover from.

[I mean, it's hard to imagine Tasha snitching on Ghost the way Angela Valdez eventually did, right?]

2. Understands you
Have you ever seen partners who seemed to understand each other to the point where words are no longer needed to communicate?

Not even gestures, just an understanding. It's just there.

When you find yourself a woman who knows what you want each time, when to leave you alone, when to stick by you even when you ask to be alone, there's every likelihood that you've found yourself a keeper.

This portends that you both must have been together for a certain amount of time, of course, and this very fact further proves why you should not throw away what you have.

Ask yourself, how long will it take to form that kind of bond with someone else?

Can anyone even understand you like that ever?

3. She's a freak in the sheets
One quote that never ceases to interest is 'be a lady in the streets and a freak in the sheets.'

When, as a man, you find a woman who functions beautifully as a financial adviser, a partner, comforter extraordinaire, and at the same time, a tigress between the sheets, my man, you've struck gold.

When you find yourself a woman to whom you not only comfortably bare your soul in deep conversation, but with whom you also [ahem] get intimate 'deeply,' better not let her go.

There, in your hands is a jewel you might never ever get a better replacement for.

4. Perfect for you
Are you with a woman who puts you at the top of every list she has in her life?

Do you have a babe who thinks of you and considers you in every action she wants to take and every decision she wants to make?

Have you met that woman who doesn't cheat, doesn't make you feel less of a man, and doesn't ever make you question your place in her life?

Do you have on your hands a woman who loves you so much that her life seems to be built all around you?

There is a woman who lives for you, and is ready to do a lot of things for you.

There, mister, is a woman you would be crazy to let go.

For the single man reading this, you'd be lucky to have a woman who has all these things.

And for those who already have such women, you smile as you read these words because the hints are all there.

You've found yourself a keeper, and you should hold on to them. Forever.

‘The God Committee’ is raising awareness of the flaws in our healthcare system and we must act

Posted: 18 Jul 2021 04:00 AM PDT

Imagine being on a committee that determines which patient lives or dies.

Where a simple 'yay' or 'nay' gesture you make determines a patient's final breath.

However incomprehensible that may sound, screenwriter Austin Spark & Mark St Germain's medical-themed psychological-drama puts us in a tough deciding spot, where the lines between right and wrong are entirely blurred.

Kelsey Grammer, Julia Stiles, Colman Domingo, Patricia R Floyd, Dan Hedaya, & Janeane Garofalo play members of an organ transplant committee tasked with the final say on which patients get healthy donors hearts in an hour. Little do they know in the next 7 years the results of their decision that fateful day will return to haunt them.

The plot is focused on the moral shade of grey of the five doctors. That is, beneath their stainless white coats.

Dr Boxer (Kelsey Grammer) is ignoring his crumbling marriage with his cynical wife Dr Jordan (Julia Stiles), Father Dunbar(Colman Domingo), a disbarred lawyer turned priest serving as a watchdog to the hospital board.

Conserved Dr Lau(Peter Kim) still mourning his daughter who he lost to a 'Drug overdose', and Gilroy (Janeane Garofalo), a weary bureaucrat.

Throughout this medical drama, One cannot help but wonder how incomplete our general health system is when we realise there isn't an adequate evaluation of the mental health status of the medics responsible for managing something as delicate as human life.

Of course, there are fundamental guidelines and protocols. But what happens when they are overruled by unmerited emotions and vague logic?

What happens when nepotism, inadequate insurance, racism, bribery, gender inequality, political interference. Supercedes the 'guidelines and protocols'.

A conversation for another day.

Regardless of the pressing issues in public health 'The god committee' plays too safe around; amidst its mind-gripping scenes, The two-way storyline ends on a high note as a groundbreaking innovation in medicine is accomplished.

Which is 'Integrating a Pig's heart with the human body. So the 'limitation of organs' in organ donorship is conquered.

In this era of COVID, this hospital movie is a reminder, the relevance of public healthcare and all it entails can not have flaws like other sectors.

It must be free. It must be flawless. Most importantly, It must be fair.

6 common sexually transmitted diseases in Nigeria

Posted: 18 Jul 2021 03:30 AM PDT

Syphilis is another serious transmitted disease that has the tendency of becoming deadly if not treated beforehand.

As far back 1963, WHO found Lagos to be the highest carrier of gonorrhea in the world.

Decades after, it has been made known through available data that the rate at which sexually transmitted disease spreads in Nigeria is alarming.

Although one would like to think that this should be a thing of concern to only city dwellers, it suffices to say that there is a rapid movement of these diseases to rural areas as well.

As a matter of fact, it can be argued that owing to lack of proper orientation with regards to STDs, the situation in rural areas is as worse as it is in urban areas.

However, if we're serious as a people in any way whatsoever, this issue should have been taken seriously enough to attract government attention to initiate necessary control measures to prevent those consequences that cannot be separated from these diseases.

But we also know that to depend on government is to leave the lives of both old and young Nigerians at risk, that's why we're taking it upon ourselves to create the awareness of the most prevalent STDs in Nigeria.

Here are six common sexually transmitted diseases in Nigeria
1. Chlamydia
Listed as one of the most common diseases that can be transmitted sexually, chlamydia is a bacterial infection that is caused by Chlamydia trachomatis.

Early-stage of this disease usually comes with no sign or symptoms, therefore, making Chlamydia difficult to detect.

And when they do occur, it takes one to three weeks after you've been exposed to chlamydia. The signs and symptoms seem to be always mild and passing, making them easy to overlook.

2. Gonorrhea
Gonorrhea is not only a common infection in Nigeria, it is also one of the serious STDs that threaten our wellbeing.

Caused by the bacterium known as Neisseria Gonorrhea, gonorrhea is a bacterial infection of the genital tract.

Surprisingly, the bacteria can also grow in the mouth, throat, eyes, and anus.

Usually, gonorrhea symptoms start appearing within ten days after exposure. But various studies have shown that there are rare cases of people experiencing signs and symptoms, months after infection.

3. Syphilis
Syphilis is another serious transmitted disease that has the tendency of becoming deadly if not treated beforehand.

Caused by the bacterium known as Treponema Pallidum, research shows that syphilis has increased over time. And this is believed to be happening because the starting of this disease goes undetected.

Syphilis is likely to attack the heart, brain and nearly all internal organs as time goes on.

4. Trichomoniasis
Trichomoniasis is an infection of the vagina for women and the urethra for men. It is caused by microscopic parasites called Trichomonas vaginalis. It is mostly contracted through sexual intercourse.

Additionally, it can be spread by bathing suits, towels, and washcloths shared by an infected individual.

The parasite is capable of living outside the body for hours.

And when trichomoniasis causes symptoms, they may appear within five to twenty-eight days of exposure and range from mild irritation to severe inflammation.

5. Herpes
Genital herpes is a common sexually transmitted disease (STD) that can be gotten by any sexually active person.

Usually, the herpes virus causes sores that appear on the vaginal area, penis and/or the anus. It can, sometimes, appear around the mouth.

Herpes can only be suppressed but it never goes away. It can return, and it is contagious even when there are no visible sores.

Upon observation, a patient can have from four to seven flare-ups each year.

6. HIV
HIV which is the most dreaded of them all is an infection with the human immunodeficiency virus that interferes with the body's ability to fight off viruses, bacteria, and fungi.

Most times, if not properly managed, it can lead to AIDS, a chronic, life-threatening disease.

Note:

It is very important to state here that these early signs and symptoms usually disappear within a week to a month and are mistaken for those of another viral infection.

5 reasons you shouldn't study in Benin Republic

Posted: 18 Jul 2021 02:00 AM PDT

Probably due to the tempting three years of study as compared to the Nigerian four years minimum, the supposed 'cheap' education, the almost 24/7 power supply.

However, quite a number of Nigerians that initially went over to the Benin Republic to study returned back to Nigeria to restart their education after a year or two of study, and I am one of them, others graduated and ended up regretting wasting three years of their lives simply because they were ignorant of few facts.

With the stress of Jamb and Post UME, a lot of Nigerian students have decided to simply hop over to other countries to get their university degrees, and a popular choice is Benin Republic's private universities.

So I decided to create this list of five reasons why studying in the Benin Republic isn't the best option for you.

1. The Controversial Certificate
A lot of Nigerian graduates from Benin Republic private universities, find it hard to get a job in Nigeria after studying there, due to questionable standards. And they also have problems studying for higher degrees both In Nigeria and Other more developed countries.

I personally know of a girl that graduated from a Private university in Benin Republic and applied for a masters degree in the University of Lagos but was declined even though she supposedly had a Second Class Result.

2. It's not Actually Cheap
Sure they'll preach to you how it's much cheaper than the Nigerian private universities, but if you calculate the very poor quality of education and structure possessed you'll realize you are paying for too much for far too little.

Even when the exchange rate was supposed to be Favorable to Nigerians, after changing your Naira to CEFA, I assure you'll be surprised at the terrible purchasing power of the CEFA.

Other than school fees, you'll have to pay either accommodation fee for a hostel that Is usually too expensive and crappy, or do what most of the students there do. Pay for a room, that is far too expensive seeing how you'll pay not just the room but a caution fee that you'll never get back.

3. The Educational Loopholes
One of the oddest things I saw in Benin Republic has got to be students coming into the second year directly without any special qualifications, merely paying about fifty thousand naira to some lecturer, or how students with barely three credits in their WAECs get admitted without any hitch.

They, the private universities, possessed very little education structure and what little they had was extremely fluid easy to be manipulated by just anyone.

You'll see quite a good number of students there, that 'transferred' from one university to the other without transcripts, and the student will have an admission letter that will portray the student has only ever being in that school and grades created and entered into the book for exams the person wasn't even in the school for.

4. The Non-Existent Social Life
One thing Almost every young Nigerian dream of is going to the university, making a lot of friends and in general be a part of a bustling university social community.

If these are your plans and you intend going to Benin Republic to study, I suggest you re-evaluate your plan. I know of several private universities there with about three People in a department.

A very populated department may have over thirty students, and a good percentage of these students are the ones that have 'transferred without transcripts' or the ones that 'skipped' classes. Not only are their demography nothing to write home about, the buildings are usually very small and reminiscent of a small JAMB tutorial center.

5. The Beninese
Sure they aren't South Africans, but they definitely have something against Nigerians. They seem to possess a general believe that Nigerians are 'Wealthy Thieves' and will go out of their way to cheat you, and generally, make life hard for you.

I remember once in School I can't remember what exactly happened but a Nigerian student was demanding his change from a Beninese and suddenly it turned into a Beninese against Nigerians free for all, several students got their head broken and got injured.

One thing with them is that while they also have really great and nice people, a good percentage of them believe we are here to steal from them, with good reasons, and as such, they endeavor to steal from us first.

I am writing this out of my personal experience studying at a Private University in Benin Republic, after which I had to leave to come back to Nigeria to study and I genuinely hope that this helps someone out there not to make the mistake that I almost made.
