'Nkoyo' series producers confirm new release date

The 13-episode series was originally slated for a July 21, 2021 release.

Nevada Bridge TV has announced a new release date for its Annie Idibia created web series, 'Nkoyo'.

According to the production company, the original series will now premiere on August 4, 2021. While no comment was given on the reason for the pushback, the production company confirmed that the delay will be worth the wait.

Directed by Seyi Babatope, 'Nkoyo' is based on the titular comic character created by Idibia. It became famous for first appearing in 2019 romantic drama 'Open Scar'.

The new series will star Idibia as Nkoyo alongside Big Brother Naija season five finalist, Nengi Hampson, IK Ogbonna, Ini Edo, Kate Henshaw, 2Baba Idibia, Larry Gaaga, Eso Dike, Nikky Ufondu and comedians Nasboi, Acapella, Omini Aho.

Obi Cubana Reveals How He Made His First Millions As a Businessman

Businessman Obi Cubana has urged Nigerian youths to desist from seeking wealth through illegal means, stating that he does not have "soap" to cut for anyone.

Speaking in an interview with BBC Pidgin on Tuesday, July 20, Cubana said he got his breakthrough when he made his first million naira after his National Youth Service Corps program in Abuja.

He said it was in Abuja that he was introduced to the real estate business, where he met a client who wanted to furnish a house. After furnishing the house for the client, Obi was gifted N500,000, as he also made over N600,000 in profits for the job.

According to him, "That was the first N1.1 million I made before I joined contract work in Abuja. I signed a contract with PPMC, made a little money, then bought my Mercedes V-boot. I invested the money I made into a garden beer parlour before I established Cubana Group.

Miracle can't give you money because the pastor needs money the more than you. Native doctor can't give you money either. If you want money, you have to work hard.

If you are in your 20s, work now. I am 46 years (old), I have done my first half. I don't know why someone who is just 20 years (old) will say he has not made it when he still has 50 years 60 years ahead. Cubana Chiefpriest – “My village people are angry with me, they said I should give them 46 goats”

Celebrity barman, Pascal Chubuike Okechukwu popularly known as Cubana Chiefpriest takes to social media to make a humourous assertion relating to the burial of Obi Cubana's mother's burial.

In a recent post, he made via his verified Instagram page with over 3 million followers, he asserted that his village people are angry with him and are demanding 46 goats from him.

The self-acclaimed Dr Ezemuo also noted that he has been warned not to set foot in the village if he doesn't provide the goats for them.

This is coming days after Cubana Chiefpriest gave Obi Cubana 46 cows for his mother's burial ceremony.


Sharing a photo of himself, he wrote:

"My Village People Dey Para For Me, Dem Say If I No Bring 46 Goats Come Back From Oba Make I No Enter Village Again, Dem Say The Goats Belong To Them, Say Make I No Use Their Tradition Play."

Nigerian actor Alex Ekubo has sent a message to his fans and followers who didn't invite him to eat the Sallah meat.

Recall that Muslim faithfuls in Nigerian joined their counterparts in the rest of the world to celebrate the occasion, which usually involves the killing of rams.

Alex, in his statement, however, stressed that anyone that didn't invite him for Sallah shouldn't expect the same from him during Christmas.

A video making rounds online captured moment a Nigerian man who claimed to be living in Vienna, Austra confronted Nigeria's women football national team, Super Falcons players who were in the country for a match.

The Nigerian man who confronted the Super Falcons players on a public bus, alleged that they are representing a "terrorist country which kills and kidnaps its citizens".

Insisting that the football players should know better, the man also claimed that over 10 million Nigerian youths are abroad doing nothing. He also averred that such thing can never happen in any European country.

Actress Lota Chukwu lands debut lead role in cinema film

The ace screenwriter and director recently confirmed the selection via an Instagram post.

Produced by Oge Obasi, 'Mami Wata' centers on Prisca and Zinwe, daughters of Mama Efe (an intermediary between the Mermaid goddess and the people of Iyi, a small fishing village in West Africa). Their destinies change when Jasper, an escaped mercenary takes over Iyi when their mother is murdered.

According to C.J. Obasi, the film had been in development since 2016. In January, he announced principal photography in Benin Republic.


 

Meet DJ Tarico, Preck and Nelson Tivane, the makers of smash hit single, ‘Yaba Buluku’

Born Tárico Caifaz Samuel Simbine, DJ Tarico is a DJ and record producer from Mozambique. In 2020, he released his debut album, 'Moz Piano.' Its title is inspired by the fusion of Amapiano with elements of Mozambican pop music.

Earlier this year, he released Moz Piano Vol. 2 and on it was the self-produced 'Yaba Buluku,' the international smash hit which has gotten a remix that features Nigerian Grammy-winning superstar, Burna Boy.


Asides from the distinct bass riff which elevates most Amapiano record, the record stands out for Nelson Tivane's distinct Makhuwa chant, "Vala ku I vona/Vala ku khoma!" as well as the chant and response session which follows.

Like international smash hits, Master KG's 'Skeleton Move' and Kabza De Small's 'Sponono,' 'Yaba Buluku' gained buzz when Nigerian radio picked it up. Nigerians also found a twist to it.

Like "Bode Thomas" helped 'Skeleton Move' gain grounds, Nigerians turned "Vala ku I vona/Vala ku khoma" to "Odogwu you bad…" and it's helped the song to gain an incredible amount of ground.

According to Nelson Tivane, "Vala Ku Ivona…" means "They will see…" while "Yaba Buluku" means "Something is hitting the trousers…"

When this writer asks him what people want to see and what is hitting the trousers, Tivane jokes that, "I don't know, bro! It's just anything[laughs]."

It's worth noting that the song's original video is famous for its conspicuous display of women's curves.

Who are the creators of this song?

DJ Tarico has always loved music. Although his primary tongue is Portuguese, he jokes that he learned English from the streets.

"Our neighbouring country is South Africa, so it's easy for some of my people to know how to speak English. This thing rubs off," he says.

When he was 14 in Secondary School, he solidified his love for music by joining an all-boys group. They would go to Reginald Studios. They taught him how to produce, write and make music while a neighbour taught him to DJ when he was 14.

After two years, one of the members of the group died and the studio closed. On his own, DJ Tarico started to bootstrap his way towards getting noticed.

At 21 in 2014, DJ Tarico took the music seriously and started to get noticed in 2016 as a producer.

 Nelson Tivane is a singer-songwriter from Mozambique. But the style he used to deliver the catchier parts of 'Yaba Buluku' is entirely new to him.

"I used to sing melodies and stuff, but I am so versatile - I think - and that style [on Yaba Buluku] is one of them," Tivane says. "Preck is the one who started that style, and I joined him with something more refined."

Preck is also an artist from Mozambique who began his career in Inhambane, Mozambique after he fell in love with Hip-Hop through DMX, JaRule, Jay-Z and more. Initially, he set out to become a rapper, but he became a singer after moving to Maputo.

"When I started singing, people used to discourage me but I kept going and now I am here, but my story keeps going," Preck says. "I met Nelson and Tarico, and we made this song."

George Beke and Burna Boy

George Beke is a music executive from South Africa. 'Yaba Buluku (Remix)' was released on his label, Geobek Records. Tarico met Beke when the latter used to manage singer Shellsy Baronet.

"I was producing a song for [Baronet] some years ago when he came to the studio. After that, we kept on talking and maintained a good relationship," Tarico says. "When 'Yaba Buluku' started blowing up, he reached out with something interesting and he's delivered so far."

Part of Beke's influence was getting Burna Boy on the remix. The threesome flew to Nigeria on June 17, 2021, where they met the Grammy winner, got familiar with him and shot its video. They also met some on-air personalities.

 "Meeting Burna Boy was exceptional, bro. Oh! It was.. I don't know how to describe it in English," Tarico says. "This was not just Tarico being happy, it was the whole Mozambique that was happy because people love Burna Boy here."

The new video for 'Yaba Buluku (Remix)' has over one million views already and it's still going hard. Wizkid's 'Essence,' it looks set to be Africa's tune for the next few months.

Tarico never wants to become a performing artist, he wants to leave acts like Nelson Tivane, Preck and Burna Boy to do their thing.

Sanwo-Olu’s Aide, Joe Igbokwe Mocks Igboho, Kanu - ‘Juju Has Failed’

Mr. Joe Igbokwe, Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Drainage and Water Resources, says juju (charms) has failed, in what looks to be a mocking of Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo and leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.

"Juju no de work again ooo. It failed in Igbo land and it failed too in Yoruba land," Igbokwe wrote on his Facebook page."


Mr. Adeyemo, aka Sunday Igboho, was photographed extensively adorned with charms for the post.

The arrest of Igboho in Cotonou, Benin Republic, made national headlines on Tuesday.

According to a high source familiar with the situation, he was arrested at a Cotonou airport on Monday night.

Igboho was apprehended by Benin Republic security forces around three weeks after the Department of State Services proclaimed him sought for allegedly stockpiling weaponry, an allegation he has since disputed.

According to a source who spoke to The PUNCH, Igboho would be deported to Nigeria from Benin Republic, one of Nigeria's West African neighbors.

"He was arrested in Cotonou while he tried to travel out on Monday night. His destination was Germany," the source said.

Concerning his encounter with Kanu, Igbokwe said that the IPOB leader had threatened him and his family prior to the arrest.

Igbokwe made this known in a statement late June titled 'Thank God I survived Nnamdi Kanu's madness'.

According to Igbokwe, Kanu had sought his blood because he disagreed with the secessionist movement of IPOB.

The statement partly reads, "Nnamdi asked his boys to behead me anywhere they see me. They did not spare my children as they extended the same fate to them.

"He also did not spare the names of every other person who spoke against his dream land, Biafra.

Igbokwe also explained that his family lived in fear and his children were threatened.

"My family lived in fear. When they could not get me, they resorted to calling my phones to pour invectives. They threatened my children at the drop of a hat.

"On my Facebook page the 'Children of Hate' Nnamdi Kanu trained and nurtured for years in abuse and hate, bigotry, primordial sentiments, and ethnic preoccupation will come in their thousands to rain abuses with all kinds of unprintable words."

"They cannot even read what you wrote to understand the trajectory. I endured it all.

"When they noticed that I was not bothered, they resorted to propaganda and heckling.

"First, they said I was jogging in Lagos and collapsed and died. Secondly, they said I was beaten up in Lagos by IPOB members. Just last week, they came up with the same story that I was beaten up again.

"In quick succession, they said my house in Nnewi has been burnt down. All these were triggered to weaken my resolve but they do not know me. When I believe in something, I hardly give up.

"Now what is my offense? I do not want Biafra and I gave 20 reasons why it cannot stand in the 21st Century.

"I said that Igbo have not spoken and Nnamdi is a baby to dictate the fate of 40 million Igbo in Nigeria. Nnamdi never liked this.

"At the time, I asked for a debate and he said I am too small to face him. Nnamdi carried on with his suicide mission and today, I cannot tell the number of young Igbo men that have been wasted in the last one year."

Kanu is being remanded in the custody of the Department of State Service, as his case was adjourned to July 26 and 27.

Reacting to the case, Igbokwe said, "Nnamdi will tell us a lot in the courts in the days ahead when the chips are down. Obviously, he has a lot to say.
