Finance Minister —We’ve spent only N502.3bn on COVID-19 intervention

The Minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, has revealed that the Federal government has so far spent N502.3 billion to stabilize the economy after being hit by the rampaging COVID-19 pandemic.

The Sun reports that Ahmed made the disclosure while speaking at the national dialogue on COVID-19 economic impact and assessment of national and states' recovery plans and policy options in Abuja on Tuesday, August 10.


According to the Minister, Nigeria was deeply affected by the pandemic because it was recovering from recession before COVID-19 led to an all-time fall of crude oil prices being the economic pillar of the country.

She listed key interventions to include: the establishment of a N500 billion COVID-19 crisis intervention fund to finance the upgrade and improvement of healthcare facilities; creation of a Special Public Works Programme to employ 774,000 people, among others.

"You know that in the 2020 budget, N500 billion was appropriated and it was fully funded. But apart from that, we also have the economic sustainability plan totaling N2.3 billion in the form of intervention funds from the CBN, which means loans are given to the private sector and they pay back later," she said.

Nigerian Comedianne and actress, Etinosa joined in the trending debate about feminism on social media.

The topic is being discussed after Living Faith church founder, David Oyedepo said women who subscribe to feminism ought not to get married.

Oyedepo made the statement while preaching on the altar during a service in his church on Sunday.

Following the statement, reactions have been flying all over social media from those in agreement and the opposite.

Etinosa posted a note on her Instagram page about the topic and criticized Nigerians for dragging marriage into feminism.

Baba Ijesha Returned To Court On The 27 Of September

Embattled actor, Olanrewaju James, a.ka. Baba Ijesha's trial for alleged defilement will resume on September 27.

The popular role Interpreter's case is before an Ikeja Special Offences Court in Lagos.

The matter, earlier scheduled to continue on Wednesday, was postponed due to the absence of Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo.


Justice Taiwo is attending a Judges' Retreat, alongside other members of the Lagos State Judiciary.

The new trial date has been communicated to parties to the suit. Baba Ijesha, arraigned on June 24, faces six counts.

The prosecution led by Mrs Olayinka Adeyemi, the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) has presented two witnesses.

The first was comedienne, Damilola Adekoya alias Princess, the foster mother of the minor.

The second prosecution witness is the girl. They testified at the last court proceedings on July 27.

Between 2013 and 2014, Baba Ijesha allegedly sexually abused the complainant, then 7 years old, by inserting his car keys into her vagina.

The defendant allegedly placed her on his laps, touched her in a sexual manner and rubbed his penis on her body.

"He also attempted to have sexual intercourse with the complainant by unbuckling his belt and unzipping his trousers after sexually assaulting her," the DPP told the court.

The offences contravened the provisions of sections 135, 259, 262, 263 and 262 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

BBNija's Pere Reacted As Princess Rejected His Request To Take Over Kitchen Duties From Whitemoney

BBNaija Season 6 Housemate, Pere called Princess aside to talk to her about taking up the kitchen duties from Whitemoney throughout his (Pere) reign as head of house.

However, Princess declined with reasons and also stated that Whitemoney is not doing a bad job in the kitchen. In her words, Princess said:

"I don't think I can. The stress is too much. This is more like a vacation for me. Before I got into this house, I made food for over 300 people and the stress was mad. So this is more like a vacation for me. But anytime I feel like I want to, I can. But doing it everyday, I don't think I can.


But if you ask me, the person handling the kitchen is not doing badly at all, and he is not restricting any other person from cooking."

Pere further explained to Princess that he's aware that Whitemoney does a good job in the kitchen, but his point is that Whitemoney is using kitchen monopoly as his strategy, and if that was cool, they will as well appoint a head of house that will rule till the end of the show.

Princess told Pere that she understood his point, but at the same time, she still stood by her words, as she stated that she can't promise him that she'll be cooking all the time.

BBNaija 2021: Maria And Other House Mates Plan To Kick Whitemoney Out Of The Kitchen Tomorrow

Big Brother Naija 'Shine Ya Eye' Housemate, Pere has succeeded in bringing up the matter of Whitemoney's solo cooking in the house and how that might be his strategy.

He told Maria that he doesn't like it, that Whitemoney is trying to give the other housemates the "you can't survive without me" mentality.

Earlier today, Maria and Liquorose were discussing this topic in the garden and Angel joined them later on as well.

"I wanted to assist him one day but he told me he could do it all by himself" –Angel said

Maria replied Angel by saying;
 
"I am cooking tomorrow and Liquorose cooking the day after tomorrow" 

He's not the owner of the kitchen" 

Angel agreed with her but added by saying,

"You would have to tell him today that you are cooking tomorrow" 

"But you will have to initiate the idea" 

Maria agreed to tell Whitemoney about this, but not in a way that would seem like she's asking for permission because according to her, Whitemoney doesn't own the kitchen.

Nollywood veteran actor, Rich Oganiru, died after battling with brief illness

Another tragedy has struck in the Nigerian movie industry as veteran actor Rich Oganiru passes on.

According to the reports, the veteran actor died on Tuesday, August 10, after being ill for months.
Further reports revealed that two weeks ago, a video of Rich Oganiru lying on his sickbed and begging for financial assistance surfaced on social media.

The caption of the post read, 'Please, everyone should reach out before he dies.'


Rich did not survive the illness as the sad news of his death was announced on Facebook last night by his friend who wrote:

'Sunset At Noon, Tuesday 10th August 2021!

Ahem… I've lost a good friend like a brother for years, a great Nollywood actor par excellence. I'm just speechless. R.I.P Amb. Rich Oganiru. RIP Amb Rich Oganiru. Well, his sad demise reminds me of a song "Celebrate me while I am still alive".'


This came few days after Nollywood lost veteran actress Rachel Oniga.

BBNaija: Pere warns housemates – “I don’t care about the impression you have of me but my position as the Head of House demands respect”

Head of House Pere has warned the housemates to be mindful as adults and give him the due respect as the Head of House.

In a gathering with the housemates, Pere has told them that the position he handles deserves their respect.


He said;

"I don't care about the impression you have of me prior to me being the head of the house but my position comes with respect. But the Emblem on my neck signifies authority. So, there will be no disrespect as far as I am head of the house. We are not kids but adults".

BBNaija's Queen – “I know I’m going to be here till the end of the show because I’ve watched it for a long time”

Housemate Queen has disclosed that she knows the strategy to keep her safe in Big Brother Naija's house until the last day because she has watched the show for a very long time.

Speaking with other housemates, she explicitly stated that there's no room to panic even if she's up for eviction and she would be staying in the house till finals because she has watched the show for a very long time.


"Even if I'm up for eviction, I won't panic because I know I'll be here until the end of the show", She said.

Music executive Soso Soberekon rushed to hospital after consuming fake drink at a Nightclub

Music executive and member of singer Davido's DMW Records, Soso Soberekon was allegedly rushed to the hospital after he consumed a fake drink at a Lagos nightclub.

Soso Soberekon was at the nightclub to catch some fun yesterday, but the unfortunate incident happened.


He had to be rushed to the hospital after complaining to his Friends of not feeling well after taking the drink, which caused the poisoning.

According to a series of posts he made on his Instagram stories, he revealed being served with fake alcohol drink is like poison.

BBNaija housemates, Angel and Sammie, had a serious quarrel last night over her decision to kiss one of the new housemates, Kay Vee.

It is no secret that Angel and Sammie have grown so close since they entered the house two weeks ago. Many even predicted they would become a couple in the house as they have been sleeping on the same bed.

Things however took a different dimension on Sunday, August 8 when Angel decided to kiss KayVee during a truth or dare game they had.


This did not go down well with Sammie who felt disrespected by Angel's decision. He mentioned this to his friends, White Money, Boma, and others. He said he held Angel in high esteem until she also touched KayVee's private part during the truth or dare.

"I should be jealous of course. She touched somebody. You don't even know this guy from nowhere. He only came in yesterday. She should have touched Saga or Boma.

Was I angry that she kissed Boma?  No I was not Angry. You just met this n*gga and you gave him the impression that I want you"

Things however took a dramatic turn last night when Angel said she overheard him slut-shaming her for her decision. She confronted him and an argument ensued between them.

She told him she is not in a relationship with him and "can kiss whoever she wants to kiss".

"Go for your Ideal woman. You have been slut-shaming me. I heard you."

An angry Sammie responded "Very confused human being"

Angel immediately fired back "I am not confused. I know what I want and it is definitely not you. It is not you. You literally slut-shamed me"

Sammie while discussing with the other guys in the room described Angel as "My girl".

An angry Angel then responded "I am not your girl. We didn't put a label on it. Stop calling me your girl."

Angel mentioned that she is somebody that Sammie has been chasing and he responded "I am no longer chasing you".

Sammie later had a conversation with his male housemates where he said "I was jealous. She has a nice bum, nice breasts. I shouldn't be jealous?"

She later had a talk with Cross and Yousef where she stated that she can be with anyone she wants to be with since she is not with him.

"I am not with you. I can do what I want. You can't come outside and be like oh f**k big brother too. If I want to f**k big brother I am going to"

She expressed her displeasure at the ladies who were laughing as Sammie allegedly slut-shamed her

DJ Cuppy — 'I'm A Fighter, I Believe In My Destiny'

Nigerian musician, disc jockey and show host, DJ Cuppy, has disclosed that she prays to God despite not going to church as often as she loves to.

The billionaire daughter of business mogul, Femi Otedola, made this statement while revealing she also has moments she feels discouraged. She stated that she prays for forgiveness and asks God to help her anytime she needs help.


DJ Cuppy, however, took a jab at the music industry, branding it as 'cold', perhaps because of the challenges she has faced in the course of her career.

She wrote;

"I don't go to church as often as I want to, but it always puts the warmth back in my heart Being a Christian in the cold music industry isn't easy. I have my moments of deep discouragement. Nollywood Stars Attended Burial Ceremony Of The Mother Of Veteran Actor, Adebayo Salami

On Tuesday, Veteran Nollywood actor Adebayo Salami, buried his mother in Ilorin Kwara State. As they honoured the deceased on Monday 9th of August with an Artistes night show, which was followed by the 8th day firdaus prayer and final burial ceremony which held on Tuesday 10th of August 2021.

We recall that over a week ago precisely 3rd of August 2021, that "Oga Bello" as fondly called announced the death of his mother Alhaja Aishat Ayoka Abdulkareem Gbogunlori, on his verified Instagram handle as consolatory messages pour in for him.


Meanwhile some popular faces in the Yoruba movie industry all turned up in style to grace the occasion of their colleague which was held in Ilorin, Kwara State.

Top Nollywood stars such as Faithia Balogun, Muyiwa Ademola, Jide Kosoko, Dele Odule, Baba Tee, Okunu, Jaiyeola Kuti, Toyin Tomato, Awoyemi Bukola, Bolaji Amusan and many others were all in attendance.

The grand children of the deceased, who are children to "Oga Bello" like Femi Adebayo, Sodiq Adebayo were also present at the burial ceremony.
