Here are 5 reasons why visiting the dentist regularly is essential

Posted: 29 Aug 2021 12:00 AM PDT

A review on the benefits of proper oral health, chief of which is medical consultation.

The importance of the mouth to the body can't be overemphasised. It is where our food passes. It's where we know if food is tasty or not. It's where our facial expressions are detected either in a sad or happy mood.

Taking care of the mouth is therefore necessary. Some don't think it's important until they have a problem with their lips, teeth, gums, tongue or jaw.

One doesn't need to wait for that to happen. A visit to the dentist must be a ritual. It is recommended this is done at least every six months.

Here are some of the reasons why:

1. Keeps the mouth healthy
A regular visit to the dentist will ensure your mouth is as healthy as possible. While we can do certain practices by ourselves such as brushing the teeth at least twice a day (morning and night) and flossing after meals, the dentist goes deeper to clean the teeth and gums via a procedure known as scaling and polishing. Here, build up of plaque in the gums and teeth is removed and the teeth is polished to give it a shiny, clean look.

This and other Periodontics procedures such as Regeneration, Gingivectomy, will give your mouth all-round goodness.

2. Detects dental problems early
Problems can arise in our mouth without getting to know. This is why visiting the dentist is necessary because it can be detected when thorough examination is done. With regular visits to the dentist, severe oral conditions such as Gingivitis, Periodontitis, Oral Cancer, Tooth Decay and more, can be detected early and treated on time before it causes further havoc.

3. Offers quality advice on oral health
A visit to the dentist provides an opportunity to be given advice on best practices and products needed in keeping the mouth healthy. For some, certain toothbrushes or even toothpastes will not be suitable. Certain foods need to be avoided after some procedures among many other things. All these will ensure optimal oral health which is best advised under the watch of a dentist.

4. Best experts on oral health matters
There are some people who take matters into their own hands by getting advice and remedy from untrained professionals who claim to have solutions to dental problems. While it might tend to work for some, it is not very effective for others and it will cause problems. A dentist is an experienced and trained professional in the area of oral health. The most common and rare problems have been studied and researched over the years and keeps evolving. This makes them the best professionals to go to rather than someone who has little or no scientific knowledge on oral health problems.

5. Helps Improve overall mental wellbeing
Having healthy teeth will tell on the overall mood and mindset of the body. If one has good looking teeth, there's that aura of confidence they have anywhere they go. Someone who has bad dentition, bad breath and other problems such as a mouth ulcer, a hole in the teeth among other issues, might not have confidence as some of these aforementioned problems come with excruciating pain.

The longer they linger, the more they can alter the state of mental health which could lead to depression, anxiety and stress disorders which in turn could lead to more health complications such as high blood pressure, stroke, diabetes and more. Visiting a dentist should therefore be taken seriously.

Dental consultation is seen as expensive. This might be true especially in private facilities. However, the government at both federal and state level offer cheaper and more affordable rates with up-to-date tools and equipment available. This option can therefore be taken as an alternative.

Popular Ghanaian sex worker, Queen Farcadi, who proudly bears the tag as a prostitute and a pimp in Ghana has revealed how bleaching attracts men to her.

She granted an interview on DW TV, a German public state-owned international broadcaster where she spoke about what pushed her to bleach her skin.

Explaining herself on the 77 Percent show titled "how can we decolonize beauty standards?" Queen Farcadi noted that she bleached to attract more men. "Basically I thought of lightening my skin to fit into the criteria of girls the men are interested in," she said.

Speaking about the impact after changing her complexion, Farcadi added that "after the skin lightening, I turned into Farcadi, before the skin lightening I was Enyonam. So that's the changes I had and life was pretty good, got famous, got the attention from the men, you get deals, maybe model contracts and all that".

In the video below, she claimed that in Ghana, light skinned women get paid more compared to women with dark skinned tone. "You will get the job but the payment there's difference in it".

This isn't the first Queen Farcadi has opened up about her lifetyle and making money from sleeping with men. The mother of one once revealed that "I have slept with uncountable men … I don't even remember some of them."

She mentioned some states in Nigeria where she has slept with men for money. According to her, she has had sexual affairs with multiple men in Abuja, Lagos and Delta State in Nigeria. "I have slept with men across all continents – from Abuja, Lagos, Delta, etc," she claimed.

5 most popular Nigerian ghosts and their stories

Posted: 28 Aug 2021 10:30 PM PDT

These ghosts stories were basically urban legends, used to scare young people from doing certain things.

In Nigeria, these ghost stories are like modern oral folklore, passed from generation to generation.

Here are some of the most popular stories which we heard growing up and which, more than we'd like to admit, still terrify us a little bit.

Bush babies

The bush baby is a myth used to scare school students into minding their business and staying indoors at night. The bush babies apparently sounds like a normal baby or a toddler crying, sometimes the kid will be calling for help, and the good Samaritan who goes outside to help the little one, disappears, never to be seen again.

Madam Koi Koi

This is the legend of Madam Koi Koi. There are several stories but this is the most popular one. Once upon a time there was a beautiful teacher in a secondary school. She was known for her beauty and her red heels. Whenever she walked in the hallways her shoes will make one sound 'Koi Koi'. After she was fired from the school, she died on her way home. Before she died she swore that she would have her revenge on the school and its students.

Not too long after, students of the secondary school said at night they would hear a 'Koi Koi' sound in the hallways of their dormitories after lights out, almost like the clicking of heels on a floor.

Oroma/Rebecca

Not exactly a ghost, but it is believed that this schoolgirl always had the finest, most beautifully made and neatest hair. However, whenever she was asked who made her hair, she would never say. One night, one of her roommates woke up in the middle of the night and let out a scream when she saw the girl headless, plaiting her own head.

Jinn
No-one knows what a jinn looks like but it is believed they are creatures that are like humans. School children of Islamic upbringing are usually the ones who believe in this myth. They are said to only reveal themselves to people who seek them out.

Mami Wata

If you're familiar with the urban legend of mermaids, then it is very easy to understand who a mami-wata is. They are believed to extremely beautiful and attractive woman who scour the earth looking for men to devour and move back into the water at night.

Alleged Victim –R. Kelly Forced All His Girlfriends To Write Fake Letters, Denying Sexual Abuse

Posted: 28 Aug 2021 06:00 AM PDT

An alleged victim of disgraced R&B hitmaker R. Kelly has testified to how she and his other girlfriends were forced to write fake blackmail letters denying allegations of abuse in order to protect himself from possible legal troubles.

The lady made the claims on Wednesday, August 25, at his New York City trial while testifying as a "Jane Doe" in federal court in Brooklyn.

'As insurance and a way to make sure these women wouldn't talk, [Kelly] created and collected collateral. He made them create embarrassing videos and false letters,' Assistant U.S. Attorney Maria Cruz Melendez said during her opening remarks at Kelly's ongoing sex abuse trial in federal court in Brooklyn on Wednesday, the Daily News reported.

'The defendant would tell us exactly what to say,' the accuser, known on the witness stand as Jane Doe 5, testified.

Jane read excerpts from the letters aloud in court, one letter stated: 'I decided I would spank myself really hard until I had bruises.'

When asked by the prosecution Wednesday if she had ever spanked herself, Jane responded: 'Never.'

Jane, who has been on the witness stand since Monday, previously testified that Kelly, 54, would spank her in punishments he referred to as 'chastisings'.

Jane, who met Kelly at a music festival in Florida when she was 17, testified that the singer's lawyer told him to have 'every girlfriend write a letter' defending him after his 2008 child pornography trial.

'The defendant would have other girlfriends make me write these letters. He said they would go to his attorneys and they'd never see the light of day,' Jane, now 23, said.

The woman shared another letter with the court where Kelly told her to state she wanted to have sex and he only wanted to be friends.

'If you don't bring me back that d**k then I'm going to say you raped me. I'm going to say you raped me since I was a minor,' she wrote in the letter. I'll tell everyone you hit me.'

Assistant U.S. Attorney Maria Cruz Melendez argued that Kelly had the victims 'create embarrassing videos and false letters'.

'He kept it in his back pocket in case anyone tried to accuse him of anything,' she said.

During Wednesday's proceedings, Jane also read letters where she said her parents had suggested she lie to Kelly about her age, and that they tried to benefit financially from her relationship with him.

She claimed her parents had sought jobs from the musician and asked him to invest in their business proposals, including one involving a dildo that played Kelly's music when in use.

'They decided to bring dildos to his show,' Jane wrote In an undated letter to her brother.

'Mom pulled a dildo out in front of anybody and everybody. I thought it was a ridiculous idea.'

She also told her brother that her mother would 'nag' her to take photos and videos of her and Kelly so she could blackmail him, and pushed her to dress provocatively for their first encounter in 2015 when she was 17.

Jane left Kelly in October 2019 after having dated the singer for over four years.

She said during their first meeting, Kelly pressured her into having oral sex before granting her a singing audition. Afterwards, she began regularly meeting with Kelly and having sex with him in different cities, according to her testimony.

Jane also shared that her parents eventually agreed to put her under the care of a woman Kelly knew so Jane could live with him in Chicago while attending high school virtually.

The disgraced singer has pleaded not guilty to charges that he ran a decades-long racketeering scheme in which he abused six women and girls, including Jane and the late singer Aaliyah. He's vehemently denied the charges, claiming that the women were groupies who wanted to take advantage of his fame and fortune.

The federal trial is expected to last several weeks and, if convicted, Kelly could face life in prison. He also faces sex-related criminal charges in Illinois and Minnesota.

Additionally, Kelly is charged in a bribery scheme after he paid a $500 bribe in 1994 in order to get breakout singer Aaliyah, who was 15, a fake ID so he could marry her. Kelly allegedly feared that he had gotten the teen pregnant.

Maduagwu had also called on the anti-graft body, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission during the altercation to investigate Jim Iyke for his perceived crimes.

However, in an interview with BBC Igbo on Friday, Jim Iyke said he has now settled his differences with Uche Maduagwu after the incident.

He also asked Maduagwu to stop making a mockery of other celebrities with his social media posts henceforth.

Big Brother Naija housemates, Maria, Nini, and Peace, found their way into the executive lounge and they spent their time there gossiping about other housemates.

They started with gossiping about the male housemates before they moved to the female housemates, specifically Angel.

Peace said during the conversation that she doesn't like the way Angel treats housemate Sammie. She added that Angel always makes Sammie spend his "Abeg Naira" on her, which is the currency the housemates use in the house.

"What she's doing to Sammie is really f***ed. I swear to God, it's really f***ed."

The ladies then moved on to talk about Angel's lady parts, saying: "She has the worst, dirtiest, nastiest vagina."

The conversation is now trending on Twitter with some taking sides with Angel and others taking sides with the other ladies.
