Reasons Why You Should Eat Dates In The Morning

Posted: 23 Oct 2021 11:30 PM PDT

Dates are incredibly fruits, full of nutrients that keep the body healthy. They help with your skin, weight and almost every part of your body.

These fruits are also one of the most delicious fruits out there. They are soft, chewy and taste like chocolate.

Dates are rich in many nutrients like magnesium, copper, iron, Vitamin B6, protein, and manganese.

There are many benefits to taking dates in the morning;

1. Energy boost
When you wake up every morning, you might feel tired and sluggish. Dates give you the required energy boost to start your day because of the sugar it contains in the form of sucrose, glucose and fructose.

Amazingly, if you have diabetes you do not need to be scared of eating dates because it does not cause an increase in insulin levels. Dates also contain dietary fibre that increases energy levels by processing sugar.

2. Weight loss
If you are trying to lose weight, then you should eat dates in the morning. This is because dates make you feel full and help with digestion.

Plus, if you eat dates in the morning, you will be less likely to indulge in morning snacks.

3. Improved concentration
Dates contain vitamins that help improve concentration throughout the day due to some antioxidants known as flavonoids. It also prevents damage to the brain cells and diseases like Alzheimer's disease.

4. Beauty routine for glowing skin
Make eating dates part of your morning beauty routine because it works wonders for your skin. Dates contain antioxidants that help to prevent damage to your skin from the environment and wrinkles. The nutrients and minerals in dates also give a glowing complexion.

5. Regulates blood flow
Dates also contain iron which prevents anaemia and aids blood flow.

3 married Nigerians talk about cooking duties

Posted: 23 Oct 2021 10:30 PM PDT

Traditionally and culturally, women and wives were the ones who cooked for the family but in modern society is this still acceptable?

This week on Couple's Therapy I spoke with three young married people - Tomi, Ben, and Ayo on what they thought about the traditional role of women to cook and eating fresh foods.

This is a scenario I painted for them;

After a long day at the office, Igho arrives home tired and exhausted. She goes to the fridge, grabs a bottle of juice, walks back to the bedroom, and sleeps off.

An hour later, George, her husband comes back from work. He is so hungry, and he goes into the kitchen immediately. Nothing is there, no meal is prepared. He looks for his wife and finds her sleeping.

He is upset, she has been home at least an hour before him and, she did not cook anything. Angry, he goes out and buys fast food for the 3rd time that week.

He tries to mask his disappointment but finally, he speaks to his wife about it. She replies, "If you are so interested in eating cooked meals. Why don't you make food for the two of us?"

What do you think the couple should do?

Who do you think should cook, the man or the woman?

Tomi, Ayo, and Ben all agreed that cooking is not for a particular gender. Anyone can cook.

Ben said, "Anyone who knows how to do it best and who enjoys doing it most."

I asked why they felt both parties should know how to cook. Tomi said, "Because I would want to eat good food. If both of us can't cook how would good food be eaten?"

Ben feels like emergencies might require all hands on deck. What the person who loves to cook falls ill or travels. "Everybody should be able to cook in case the person who regularly does, cannot. It is teamwork."

I asked how they felt about getting a maid to cook.

Tomi agrees, "It can be done if the maid is a good cook." Ben and Ayo agree too but they feel it requires money.

In a situation where the wife is tired, what should the couple do?

They all agree that she should rest, and they could eat out or the man should cook.

Is a woman or man justified in saying they won't cook because they do not know how to?

Ayo thinks that "No, he or she can always improve even if they do not have to cook." Though Ben thinks they are justified in not cooking. "Some people really hate it."

I asked what they think of eating frozen food. They all had a unanimous response, "We eat what is available - frozen or fresh. Cooking in bulk and storing in the freezer helps to reduce the workload."

Ayo said "Cooking is not such a big deal as it made on social media"

Ben said, "Couples just need to find a balance."

Tomi said, "I am all about eating good food and the processes. It is not about who should cook or not cook. The most important thing is to eat good food not just any type of food."

"If he cannot cook because I am tired, we can eat something light or eat out. If he wants to cook fine but the food must be good not just concussion, if he sees the need to go and learn then it is fine, if not it's fine."

It appears that modern and young couples are shifting from traditional gender roles into finding what works for the both of them.

5 common Saturday breakfast meals in an African home

Posted: 23 Oct 2021 10:00 PM PDT

If you grew up in an African home, certain rituals are synonymous with living there.

The rituals extended to the foods we ate or cooked during the weekends.

Sundays were known for jollof rice and in some households pounded yam and egusi soup. Saturday mornings came with special meals, especially after house chores.

Akara and pap

This is made from fried beans paste. Most times it is not prepared at home, you could buy it down the street. Pap is made from condensed millet and taken with sugar and milk.

Moi Moi and pap

This is made from fried beans paste. Most times it is not prepared at home, you could buy it down the street. Pap is made from condensed millet and taken with sugar and milk.

Moi Moi and pap

A very common breakfast staple. Eggs are added to it sometimes. The tea is usually from the brand Milo or Bournvita. We all had siblings who cut bread into pieces and soaked it in the tea or you were that sibling.

Ewa Agoyin (Beans) and soft bread

Your mom could prepare beans, and you eat it with bread, but the best were the ones bought along the road.

Masa and soup

Masa is small balls of fried corn flour. This is popular among those who lived in the North. The soup used to make the Masa was always so delicious and never really enough.

What other meals did you enjoy on a Saturday morning growing up?

Lady calls out Mercy Johnson Okojie as she shares her side of the story – You’re a mad woman

Posted: 23 Oct 2021 03:30 AM PDT

A lady identified as Nancy Chidera has countered Mercy Johnson's claim of her 8-year-old child, Purity being bullied by a teacher.

Nancy, in a lengthy Instagram post, claimed that Mercy Johnson was at fault as she allegedly bullied the head teacher and assaulted her.

She also claimed that Mercy called her husband who in turn came to the school with 3 hefty bodyguards to fight the head teacher.

She wrote;

"Mercy Johnson you embarrassed yourself and image today and action will definitely be taken against you. You would keep taking your children from one school to another because you can't control your nonsense attitude.

Something happened at Chrisland VGC and I want everybody to judge the case. So many times, I've heard this narrative – Nigerian celebrities feeling like Demi-gods and superior to other human beings.

How would you as a mother-celebrity go to your daughter's school and instigate your daughter to fight and cause havoc in her new school.

Your daughter was sent out of Greensprings because of your demental attitude and the fact that you didn't train your children well and you brought that stupid character to Chrisland VGC.

Why would you go to your daughter's school and fight a head teacher because she corrected your child.

So her child Purity twisted the hand of a fellow student and the case was reported to the head teacher. The woman called the both students to reconcile and asked them to apologize.

The child literally told the head teacher that she would never apologize because she wasn't taught to do so. After much persuasion, she apologized and the mother dismissed the pupils.

Only for the mother to come to school this afternoon to cause havoc, to insult, humiliate the head teacher. All for what?

After her display, she called her husband who in turn came to the school with 3 hefty bodyguards to beat up the headteacher for supposedly disturbing his wife and child.

So as a man, you brought your soldier dogs to beat up a woman, aren't you ashamed?"
