Maryland Mentor Corps is now recruiting UMD students to volunteer in our Spring 2022 cohort! Please share this message with your students.

Apply now to become a mentor with Maryland Mentor Corps in one of our great programs below! Join other Terps in service to youth and families in our community!
  • Maryland Reading Program (In Person): Mentors work one-on-one with 1st and 2nd grade students who are struggling with reading.
    • Shifts Available: Monday through Thursday; 7:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m, every week of the semester.
  • Maryland Math Program (In Person): Mentors work 1:1 or in small groups with 4th graders who are struggling with math.
    • Shifts Available: Monday through Thursday; 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., every week of the semester.
  • Maryland Family Literacy Program (Virtual): Mentors provide 1:1 and small group English language tutoring and conversation practice for local adults.
    • Shifts Available: Wednesday & Thursday; 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. every week of the semester.
  • Higher Achievement Middle School Reading & Mentoring Program (In Person): Work with a small group of 5th-8th grade scholars as they engage in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. No experience needed! Training, lesson plans, and activities will be provided.
    • Shifts Available: Tuesdays & Wednesdays; 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
  • Latino Student Fund K-5 Tutoring (Virtual): Provide virtual tutoring (via Zoom) in reading and/or mathematics to local elementary school students.
    • Shifts Available: Thursdays; 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Transportation will be provided for in-person programs. No tutoring experience required!

Our areas of focus are government (Civilian and DOD agencies), Commercial, Education, and Non-Profits. We are looking for a candidate who has a strong desire for industries such as government affairs/relations, contracting, government service, public health, and/or IT security. The founders of Frieman Khatri & Partners, LLC, Rashmi Khatri and Richard Frieman will work with the candidate to show the intricate and rewarding world of government contracting, teaching them a unique skillset for the future.

    • Current students with a major and or minor in Business/Public Administration, Government, Public Policy, Public Health, Communications

    • Collect and analyze relevant information (Request proposals, quotes and or Information; this will be done using various platforms)
    • Prepare quality draft documents/proposals
    • Project/ Portfolio monitoring: compliance reviews
    • Use various enterprise tools and technology to prepare documents
    • Communicate relevant and accurate information and clearly
  • Compensation/Learning Outcomes:
    • Unpaid [Check with your advisor regarding academic credit. Internships with startups less than two years old do not qualify for BSOS 288I, BSOS 355, or BSOS 386.]
    • Learning outcomes: Work with higher graded staff in support of office programs and activities to gain practical work experience with respect to Government contracts and contractors
