He comes up with crazy ideas without thinking – Burna boy’s mother speaks on frequent feud with son

Posted: 16 Jan 2022 08:11 AM PST

Burna Boy's mother, Bose Ogulu, has said that she and her son often dispute over how money should be spent.

This was revealed by the singer's mother, who also serves as his manager, in a recent CNN interview.

When questioned about the topic on which she and her son, Burna Boy, have the greatest disagreements, she stated that it is spending. According to Burna boy's mother, when it comes to money, Bose and her son, Damini Ogulu, don't think alike.

"We don't think we should be spending money on the same thing." Bose said.

Burna Boy, she said, comes up with different ideas without considering the cost, especially when it comes to video shooting.

In her words;

"So he comes up with really crazy ideas without really thinking about what it costs or what it doesn't cost. And so, my first reaction would be no, that's not going to work. How are we going to make back that money?"

Bose then said that she has realized that no isn't always the best answer. Rather, they'd figure out a way to make things appear like Burna boy wanted them to without spending a lot of money.

She said;

"And then I learned that it's not 'no'. It's just that we should find a way of still making it look like what he wants or close to what he wants without spending as much."

MC Fish says - “Most female celebrities can’t be as submissive as my wife, Anita Joseph”

Posted: 16 Jan 2022 06:00 AM PST

MC Fish, the husband of popular Nollywood actress, Anita Joseph, emphasizes how submissive his wife is unlike other female celebrities.

This comes following the backlash that trailed his bedroom video with his wife that triggered massive reactions across the internet space.

In an interview with Saturday Beats, MC Fish said;

"I can't just mention one but a few things. My wife is a homemaker. She respects me in the home, and I can categorically say most celebs cannot even do what she does for me in the house. They can't be as submissive as Anita Joseph is to me. To top it up, she's a friend and a good companion. She understands her responsibilities as a wife. The most beautiful quality is that she makes me laugh, even when I am angry."

On his intimate video Anita Joseph shared on her Instagram page, MC Fish said;

"A lot of the people that criticized that video deep down really need love, and the sad part is they have no one showing them love. People should be able to express themselves in whichever way they please, especially if they are married. The truth is that Nigerians like to escape from the reality facing them. Off all the problems in this country, is it the love I'm showing to my wife that people have issues with? Nigerians should learn to face the current issues which we have, including poor electricity supply, insecurity, hunger and poverty."

UNILORIN lecturer turned singer says – I am obsessed with making impact beyond academics

Posted: 16 Jan 2022 04:00 AM PST

Dr Abdulwaheed Isiaq, nicknamed Theorist, a musician and lecturer in the Department of Political Science at the University of Ilorin, has stated that he intends to introduce Hip Hop music well beyond college campus.

The lecturer cum singer in an interview with Saturday Beats say:

"The spectrum of academics is broad. Once one boards the bus, it can take one anywhere. I remembered vividly that it (music career) started while I was conducting a research on hip-hop and fuji artistes in Nigeria. I discovered another area of research which I titled, 'The place of education and talents exhibition in Africa'. I realised that while talents may rule the world, education can help to improve then. So, one needs not sacrifice education for one's talent, and vice versa. Anyone who has as much enthusiasm as I do would always explore beyond the walls of classrooms and libraries.
I am obsessed with making impact beyond academics. I also want to reach out to the common man out there. I want to be remembered for changing the world with academics and good music."

When asked what inspires him to write songs, he responded;

"God is the first motivator. But basically, three things lured me to the studio and glued my hands to the pen. The first is books. Second is society, and the third is my life experiences.

I am a bookworm who is always obsessed with anything academics. I love research and I love to read. Whenever I start reading about an intriguing socio-political or economic phenomenon, I always feel the need to look for a way to coin them into lyrics and make it simple for the common man to understand the importance of such. Many of life's lessons are hidden on the pages of a book. I am a poet as well and have written quite a number of poems.

My life experiences encompass my life journey, travails and lessons learnt. I don't want people to be discouraged by their current situations. One's background does not determine one's future. Things are not easy out there, so I always draw inspiration from my life experiences, and look for how I could help youths develop and grow in all ramifications."

Shina Peters– How I Passed Out On Hearing Of Kujore’s Death

Posted: 16 Jan 2022 03:30 AM PST

Following the death of juju musician, Dayo Kujore, his close ally, veteran Afro-juju singer, Sir Shina Peters , has disclosed how he lost consciousness when he was informed of Kujore's death.

Recall that Kujore died at the age of 69 on Monday, January 10, 2022, at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, after a brief illness.

Describing his relationship with Kujore, he said, "I was the first person Kujore's son reached out to on the phone immediately after his death. I screamed and lost consciousness when he broke the sad news to me. It took the help of those who were with me in Abuja at the time to revive me after I fainted. I had to abandon all I was doing in Abuja and headed to Lagos immediately because I knew that we, members of the Association of Juju Musicians in Nigeria, have so much to do in memory of him. I reached out to our President, Queen Ayo Balogun, so we could begin to make plans. Dayo and I had a very close relationship, and this makes the whole thing seem like a dream to me. It has been difficult for me to accept the reality that Kujore is gone. I will surely miss him for his talent and our friendship because we grew up together and we both performed alongside Prince Adekunle. Also, we started our bands around the same time. We had so much in common. Until Kujore's demise, I had only felt that way when Michael Jackson died

Mo Abudu appeases Chief Daddy 2’s critics– “Your voices are heard”

Posted: 16 Jan 2022 03:00 AM PST

Mosunmola Abudu, best known as Mo Abudu, a filmmaker and founder of EbonyLife Media, has recognized on Friday the displeasure voiced by critics over her recently released comedy film, Chief Daddy 2.

Mo Abudu assured viewers who blasted the film that their voices had been heard in a post on her verified Instagram profile, adding that she is open to "constructive feedback" which would enable her and her team to continue to enhance the quality of the films published.

The movie is a sequel to the original Chief Daddy movie, which was released in 2018. It was directed by Niyi Akinmolayan and produced by Mo Abudu.

The original movie depicts a motley crew of close and extended family members as they fight for a share of the fortune left by the iconic Chief Daddy.

The quest to claim this money continued in the sequel, however several critics characterized it as repetitious and very obvious.

Although the sequel had a fabulous star-studded cast, which includes Falz and Nollywood veterans Funke Akindele-Bello, and Joke Silva the overwhelming impression is that the sequel should have been better.

However, Mo Abudu took to her Instagram on Friday to say;

"As the CEO of the EbonyLife Group, I am aware of the mixed reactions to the release of Chief Daddy 2 on the 1st of January on Netflix. While some people enjoyed the film, others did not, and so I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge our Chief Daddy fans that felt some disappointment with the sequel.

Thank you so much for caring, and for sharing your concerns so passionately.

Over the years, we have been the privileged recipients of your love and support of our productions – from Fifty, The Wedding Party, The Royal Hibiscus Hotel, Your Excellency, The Governor, Castle and Castle, Oloture and of course Chief Daddy 1 amongst others. All these amazing stories are on Netflix for your viewing pleasure. So, when you express your disappointment with us, please know your voices are heard.

We appreciate your constructive feedback. This way, my team and I can continuously improve ourselves so we can deliver the great quality productions you have come to expect from EbonyLife studios.

Please share your feedback respectfully otherwise we will have to restrict entry to you on our pages. We really don't want anyone to miss out on finding out about the exciting stories we have for you in the pipeline.

"Thank you for listening, and rest assured that we have great things in store for you, with some amazing titles coming your way soon.

"Once again, wishing you all a very happy new year with an abundance of blessings."

Okey Bakassi urges – Don’t make your education useless; go get your PVC

Posted: 16 Jan 2022 02:30 AM PST

Okey Bakassi, a popular host, stand-up comedian and actor, has urged his fellow country men and women to acquire their PVCs so as to vote against bad governance during the general elections in 2023.

Taking to his Instagram page, the stand-up comedian highlighted the many types of illiterate northerners who have PVC, as opposed to numerous university graduates and master's degree holders who claim that their votes are meaningless.

People should quit making excuses that their vote doesn't count, said Okey Bakassi, since if they don't count, politicians won't be paying or bribing the illiterate to vote for them.

In his words;

"Almajiri has a PVC
Mai shayi has a PVC
Mai barrow has a PVC
Mai Debino has a PVC
Mai Gworo has a PVC

Onion and Tomato seller has a PVC
Shoe shinner has a PVC
Bus drivers/conductors has a PVC
motor park Agberos have has a PVC

You (a student or a graduate with BSC or MSC holder) with all your education and exposure still don't have PVC. The worst thing is that you even try to justify why you don't have one 'My vote won't count.

For the sake of those who paid your school fees and fed you through school, please don't make your education /exposure useless with a statement like that. If votes don't count, politicians won't bribe/pay people to vote for them.
Go and get your PVC"

Tips to help you easily make tough decisions in life

Posted: 16 Jan 2022 02:00 AM PST

It is often said that life is full of tough decisions.

Whether we are choosing a career, deciding where to live, or picking out our wardrobe for the day, there seem to be always difficult choices and tradeoffs. However, with some guidance and reflection, it becomes easier than you think. Below are some tips that can help you quickly make those tough decisions in your life.

When making a tough decision, it can be helpful to visualize the potential outcomes. For example, if you are considering whether or not to take a new job, imagine yourself in that position one year from now. What would your life look like? Are you happy in the imagined future? If not, then the job might not be suitable for you.

Take a break

Sometimes, we need to take a break and let the information we have sink in before making any decisions. For example, suppose you are considering switching jobs. In that case, it might be helpful to wait until your current job has ended before accepting another one to avoid having two bosses or feeling like you're betraying someone by leaving too soon after starting at the company.

In addition, talk to friends who may understand what is going on, they may provide some clarity that can help make better decisions moving forward.

Think about your own happiness

While other people certainly matter when making difficult choices, ultimately, our happiness matters most of all. So often, we end up doing something for someone else rather than what makes us the happiest. If you are not happy, your decisions are not going to matter. So, although making choices out of guilt may seem like the right thing to do in some cases, ultimately, we must remember that life is short, and our happiness matters most.

List the pros and cons

When making a tough decision, it can be helpful to list the pros and cons. This way, we can see both sides of the issue more clearly. For example, if you are considering whether or not to break up with your significant other, writing out a list of reasons why you should and shouldn't break up can help clear things up.

4 ways to know you have phone anxiety and how get rid of it

Posted: 16 Jan 2022 01:30 AM PST

Is phone anxiety a real thing or is it just people avoiding your phone calls?

Phone anxiety (telephobia) refers to physical symptoms a person experiences whenever their phone rings.

Phone anxiety is a form of social anxiety disorder. Social anxiety disorder is a fear of social situations.

For many people with social anxiety, their preferred means of communication is through text messages because it eliminates awkward silence and the need to instantly think up something to say.

In work situations, there can be heightened stress to receive your bosses' or coworkers call and that can also cause phone anxiety.

Here are four ways to know that you have phone anxiety and not that you generally hate calls:

If you wonder, "What do I say?" "Am I saying the right thing?" and you constantly obsess over that and rehash the conversation.

An increase in your heart rate, feeling your heart beating faster.
Feeling nauseous and dizzy when a call is coming in.
Feeling tense in your muscles.

How to get over it
With most mental health issues, cognitive behavioural therapy is usually the solution.

This involves scrutinising your thoughts and feelings about certain things to let go of wrong notions about it.

In this case, realising there is nothing threatening about phone calls and just going ahead to pick it up is an easy solution.

Another way to overcome this fear is to call people more.

5 lessons to learn when you're broken

Posted: 16 Jan 2022 01:00 AM PST

Here are a few things that heartbreak can teach you.

Heartbreaks can be difficult.

They can change your perception of relationships and hurt you deeply.

But as the common saying goes, there are no scars without lessons.

1. Asking to be loved in equal measure is not too much
In the throes of heartbreak, you might be tempted to return to a mean or abusive partner because you feel unable to deal with the pain, but one lesson to learn is that you deserve someone who loves you as much as you love them, and you were not asking for too much.

2. You cannot change people
Many experiences have made people who they are and you have to accept them for who they are or who they say they are. Attempting to change them is a futile exercise.

3. Listen to the universe and stop making the same mistake
Are you noticing a pattern, either of behaviour or choice of a partner? Do people always say you act in a certain way and that puts them off? Do you always choose a certain type of people who end up hurting you?

It is only a fool who doesn't learn from their mistakes. Fix your flaw and correct the error in decision making.

4. Your feelings of hurt are valid without an apology
If you were abused and manipulated but the person never accepted that they wronged or hurt you, you do not need their apology for a validation of your feelings.

Do not accept to be gaslighted into thinking they did nothing wrong to you.

5. Accept that nothing lasts forever
Treasure the good times, accept the bad but remember that nothing lasts forever. And that is fine.

5 side-effects of eating beans

Posted: 16 Jan 2022 12:30 AM PST

Some important things about beans that you probably didn't know.

Alongside rice and garri, beans is a well-established item in the average Nigerian's diet. You can't list three Nigerian staple foods without mentioning beans.

Obviously it is popular, well consumed and possesses quite a number of advantages. But that's not all there is to know about it. Beans can also be disadvantageous in some ways. Here are 5 of its side effects:

1. Gas

This one is pretty obvious and well publicised. Eating beans increases the regularity of your farts. Beans contain sugars and fibre that your body may struggle to digest. When these sugars meet up with the bacteria in your large intestines, gas is produced and that comes out as fart. You may also experience some abdominal discomfort especially when you eat too much. One way to counter this is to drink more water and stay active when you eat beans so that your stomach can quickly process the fiber the meal contains.

2. Causes migraine in some people

Some people get intense headaches when they eat beans. Although this allergic reaction is not so common, it is important to stay off the meal if you notice that this happens to you. Also, see a doctor if you insist on having it on your meal plan.

3. It's actually an incomplete protein

You probably didn't know this, as you might have grown up thinking beans was a complete and rich source of protein. Apparently not. Unlike other sources of protein, beans actually lack methionine, an important amino acid which is important for your body. In essence, by eating only beans as a protein source, you will not be getting the adequate amount of protein your body needs. However, eating beans with certain grains like rice wheat and maize rounds everything up nicely for you. This is because these cereal grains are high in methionine yet lack another amino acid found in beans.

4. Risk of constipation

Beans are high in both soluble and insoluble fiber. The soluble fibers and soluble fibers need liquid to move through your system as it should. So if you do not drink enough water after eating beans, [and regularly too!] it could cause constipation.

5. Preparation time is a little too long

This one may not directly be a health benefit but it's one reason why people may be put off by beans. You just can't vex and say you want to cook beans the way you might sometimes do with rice or some other meals. So yeah, there's that.

Safe and effective ways to remove deep blackheads

Posted: 15 Jan 2022 11:30 PM PST

A deep blackhead is a type of acne that is characterized by its blackish appearance.

It is essentially a deeply embedded, hard plug made of skin debris and sebum that blocks the pores on your skin. A deep blackhead is typically hard to remove as it is a result of waste accumulated over a long period of time; deep blackheads can remain on the skin for years if left untreated.

A regular blackhead, in contrast, has not yet hardened and may be more easily removable. In other words, a regular blackhead is a predecessor of a deep blackhead.

Blackheads, both deep and regular, may form anywhere that you have pores. However, these most commonly appear on the T-zone of the face— the forehead, nose, and chin as these areas are highly concentrated with sebaceous glands. Occasionally, you can find blackheads on the neck, chest, back, shoulder, and conchal bowl (the rounded bowl-shaped part) of the ears.

What causes deep blackheads

As with other kinds of acne, excess production of sebum is primarily responsible for the formation of blackheads. When the excess oil, along with dead skin cells, accumulates within the pores, it gets clogged up with a plug. In the case of a blackhead, the clogged pore opens up on the surface of the skin. When the built-up content comes in contact with the air, it is oxidized and turns black.

How to remove blackheads

Deep blackheads are very stubborn, and you may have a tough time getting them out with your regular exfoliation process. Prodding and pricking are not advised as that is rarely effective and can cause more damage to your skin. However, they can be conquered and you can get rid of them. Read on to see how to remove deep blackheads safely.

Below are some healthy ways to remove them:

Use Benzoyl Peroxide
Benzoyl peroxide has potent anti-inflammatory properties and may be helpful for managing inflammation around infected blackheads or treating the inflammation that may accompany blackhead extraction. It may also be a useful tool for removing the buildup of dead skin cells and excess sebum

Benzoyl peroxide is available with varying concentrations in different forms like gels, body wash, face wash, face foam, acne cream, and lotion. You can use one or more of these as per your requirement, but don't overdo it as it may lead to excessive dryness which can be counterproductive.

Use tea tree essential oil
Tea tree essential oil for blackheads is considered to be an alternative approach and has limited research to back it up. However, in a study comparing tea tree essential oil and benzoyl peroxide for the treatment of acne, it was found that both are equally effective. It was also noted, however, that tea tree oil worked slower than benzoyl peroxide. More studies are warranted for the use of tea tree oil as a treatment for deep blackheads, but it is well-tolerated, so there is no harm in trying.

Retinoids
Retinoids may prevent the skin cells from clumping together and manage sebum levels. Most importantly, they can improve skin cell turnover. That means that they may help with quicker healing and reduced discolouration of the skin after you have got your blackheads out. Retinoids may also help with collagen formation and leave your skin looking healthier.

You can use over-the-counter topical drugs containing retinoids for treating your blackheads. However, prescription retinoids are generally stronger and may be more effective than the over-the-counter variants, so do not hesitate to reach out to your dermatologist.

How to prevent deep blackheads

Some people may be more prone to developing deep blackheads than others. There are a variety of factors that play a role in the formation of deep blackheads and a few of them are in your control. Here are some of the simplest ways to keep deep blackheads at bay:

Follow a skincare routine that includes cleansing, exfoliation, and moisturization.
Choose products that suit your skin type.
Drink plenty of water.
Address blackheads and whiteheads as soon as they appear.
Follow a diet high in fruits, nuts, and vegetables and low in processed carbohydrates, and added sugars.

5 most mysterious uncontacted tribes

Posted: 15 Jan 2022 11:00 PM PST

Members of these tribes have maintained keeping traditions long left behind by the rest of the world and want nothing to do with civilisation.

Mysterious uncontacted tribes still exist in some of the most isolated regions of the world.

Members of these tribes have maintained keeping traditions long left behind by the rest of the world and want nothing to do with civilisation.

1. The Sentinelese
The Sentinelese are the indigenous people of North Sentinel Island in the Andaman Islands of India. One of the Andamanese people, they resist contact with the outside world. They are among the last people to remain virtually untouched and uncontacted by modern civilization.

A National Geographic team was forced to turn back after the lead team member got an arrow through his thigh, and two local guides were killed.

2. Mashco-Piro tribe, Peru
Through the jungles of Peru, a tour group found itself face to face with members of an unknown tribe.

Everything was captured. The tribe tried to communicate with the tourists but since the tribesmen didn't know either Spanish or English, they soon gave up and left them where they'd found them.

After inspecting the tape Peruvian authorities realized that the tour group had stumbled upon one of the few remaining tribes unknown to anthropologists. Scientists had known about their existence and had been searching for them for years without success.

3. The Suma People
The Suma tribe of Ethiopia avoided all Western contact for years. The Suma lived in groups of a few hundred and carried on with their humble cattle ranching for centuries while colonization, World Wars, and struggles for independence were going on all around them.

The first people to hold a conversation with the Surma people were a few Russian doctors in the 1980s, thought by the tribesmen to be walking dead because of their skin colour.

4. The Amazon Tribes
The Brazilian government has been trying to find out how many people live in the isolated Amazon regions, for reasons of population control. In 2007, a routine low-flying photo operation suddenly came under fire by arrows shot from the bows of a previously unknown tribe.

And then in 2011, a satellite sweep managed to find a few specks in a corner of the jungle no one thought was habitable: it turns out that the specks were people.

5. The New Guinea Tribes
In New Guinea, there remain dozens of languages, cultures and tribal customs still unknown to modern man. But due to the largely uncharted terrain and the unknown character of tribal inhabitants amid reports of cannibalism, rural New Guinea is seldom explored. While new tribes are discovered every so often, many expeditions that depart with the purpose of tracking them down are cut short and sometimes they simply go missing.
