Over the years, wearing waist beads has slowly become the 'in thing' in fashion.

Although it has always been an element of culture in the African custom, today, many more people have fallen in love with the idea of having it on or having someone they love wearing them.

Waist beads are adornments or decorative pieces made from cowries, precious shells, beads, pearls, or small metal strung onto a wire or fish line(not the one used for fishing). These waist beads come in different lengths, waist sizes, colours, and shapes and could be worn in single strands or multiple strands as they sit beautifully on the waist of the wearer.

As earlier stated, waist beads have been a part of African culture, especially West Africa's, for the longest time. In Nigeria, waist beads were worn as a sign of spirituality, femininity, sensuality, growth, and fertility in the olden days. In Ghana, it is a symbol of a rite of passage and coming of age for a young girl, and this is usually proof of her sexual maturity. It also helps to accentuate the waist, giving it a smaller frame.

When a baby is born, the baby is traditionally beautified with waist beads, and once the baby is grown to about a year, if he is a boy, he stops wearing, while the girl continues to wear them. The young girl will continue to wear the beads on her waist till puberty; she automatically outgrows them and is given new ones as she transitions into womanhood.

In some other cultures, the waist beads are worn for protection from the 'evil eye,' As such, precious beads invoked with charms are added to give maximum protection.

One thing that is common to every wearer worldwide is that waist beads are the fact that they serve as a form of body shapers. They are excellent tools for monitoring weight gain and weight loss. A little weight loss or weight gain is easily detected; once the wearer gains weight, the beads easily roll up and eventually break, and if the wearer loses weight, the beads roll down and become so loose that they finally fall off. So if you are going on a weight loss or weight gain journey, it would be an excellent pointer to get waist beads to track your progress somewhat.

Meat stock is unarguably one of the most important ingredients in any delicious meal. It forms the basis of most tasty Nigerian recipes, including the famous Jollof rice.

Meat stock is the savory liquid in which meat (beef or chicken) or fish, bones, and sometimes vegetables have been simmered. Nigerians are known to cook portions of meat and the liquid is then separated and refrigerated to be added to meals.

Meat stock is what stock cubes like Maggi and bouillons are made from. The meat stock is simply dehydrated and commercially made into stock cubes and powders.

The main advantage of meat stock is that it saves time for cooks and makes whipping up a speedy meal or soup very easily. You don't have to start adding all your ingredients one after the other when you can just use your meat stock. Another advantage is that homemade stocks do not contain the preservatives the commercially produced ones have.

There is hardly any Nigerian recipe that does not require stock, especially soups, stew, sauces, and more, including fried rice and Jollof rice. Nigerian Jollof is arguably the best of its kind and one of the top secrets to its delicious taste is meat stock due to its deep rich flavor. Your average Nigerian meat stock has onions, garlic, ginger, curry powder, dried thyme, salt, and Maggi.

Fish stock is not commonly used in Nigeria but can be achieved with fish bones, fish head, fins, and spices. Moi Moi and beans dishes are dishes that mostly require fish stock and also some vegetable soups and sauces.

Meat stock is prepared by cooking different chicken or beef parts- like boney beef parts (locally called biscuit bone), meats with lots of muscle like Cow shin, beef with fat deposits like hump, offal (Shaki, Abodi), cow leg, etc.- with spices like salt, stock cubes, bay leaves, thyme, curry, onions, nutmeg, and other ingredients to suit ones taste. They are then cooked together for a while, the stock is then sieved and stored.

Meat stock is known to give meals that unique taste which is why most Nigerians cannot do without it.

Are you exercising right? I spoke to a personal trainer about the common mistakes people make at the gym and he gave interesting answers.

It is not unusual to have people who want to look and become fit by regular exercise think that only a gym subscription and regular attendance will get them in shape.

Just going to the gym will not give them the body they desire, they have to follow some basic rules - if they don't, it is a waste of time and energy.

Here are some of the common gym mistakes;

1. Poor exercise selection
Many people treat going to the gym like a grocery store, moving from aisle to aisle looking for things to put into their cart.

At the gym, they go equipment hopping moving from the treadmill to lifting weights, to the barbells to the rowing machines without any clear direction.

Every single gym equipment has a purpose and works on certain parts of your body, so know what the equipment you are using for the day does.

How do you get the most out of your gym time? Do compound exercises that work on different muscles in your body like squats, lunges, push-ups, and deadlifts.

2. Bad posture or form
About bad posture, the personal trainer, Jude says; "If your posture is bad it contributes to your poor technique or form. Poor technique has to do with your posture when you are working out. For example leaning when you should be standing straightforward."

If your form is bad you are likely to get injured and have severe body pain.

3. Not warming up
Here is celebrity trainer Jillian Michaels explaining the importance of warming up, "think of your muscles and connective tissue like a rubber band. If you pull a rubber band when it's cold it can snap. But if you heat up that rubber, it's far more elastic and flexible."

Before you exercise, it is important to warm up. Warming up prepares your body and heart for exercise. It raises your heart rate, body temperature, and prevents soreness and accidents.

What is the perfect way to warm up? Stretch your body like you are doing yoga, touch your toes or use a foam roller to effectively stretch your back and body.

4. Lifting heavy weights too soon
Yes, you want to gain more muscle strength but it is a mistake to lift heavy weights immediately you start going to the gym even if your goal is strength.

Jude said, "The main reason for this is to minimize the chances of getting injured. If you are not ready for heavy lifting, then you would most likely hurt yourself."

5. Lifting only light weights
"The goal of most people who go to the gym is to lose weight and also build strength, but you never know how much your capacity has increased if you stick to the same weights every time you go to the gym."

So step your game up, increase the challenges and the weights you lift. Stretch yourself but do not do too much.

6. Poor breathing
Another popular mistake is not controlling your breathing. What does breathing have to do with exercise? Everything. The best way to breath is through the nose and belly deeply but most people exercising breath shallowly through their mouths instead of their nose.

When you do not breath well when exercising your blood pressure increases, your muscles are tighter and it impedes your ability to burn fat, train hard and lose weight.

7. Neglecting leg day
If you don't want to look ridiculous then you can't skip leg day. Workout those legs with squats and deadlifts and other leg exercises. Yes, it can be physically demanding but it would give you a more rounded physique.

History about The Great wall of China

The famous wall of China is an old series of fortifications and walls divided into 15 regions.

All these regions situated in the northern part of China. The ancient architectural structure was built over 500 years and it is estimated to be about 21,000 kilometres long which spans from the east seaside to the west desert of China (approximately half of the earth's equator). This makes it the largest man made structure in this present world; surprisingly, it cannot be seen from space.

The first emperor of China Qin Shi Huan in 220 B.C gave an order that the ancient bulwarks and fortifications be linked and unified into a single wall, expanding the defense into a single barrier; a product of about 2,000 years of labor and 400,000 workers. A famous story of the Great Wall of China is that of Meng Jiang Nu, a farmer's wife whose husband was forced to work on the wall during the reign of Qin. Unfortunately, the husband died and upon hearing, she wailed and till the walls collapsed and brought forth his bones for her to bury.

Later in the 1700s, after the Chinese rule extended into inner Mongolia, the wall serving as a form of defense became less important. Notwithstanding, the Chinese people have continued to hold in high esteem what the wall symbolizes; this has added more value to the culture of the nation.

According to research, in the next 30 years, only about a section or two of the wall will be left. This is because one-third of the wall has already disappeared due to human vandalism and physical weathering.

In the year 1987, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) made the Great Wall of China a World Heritage Site, placing it on the list of great historical and national sites to visit.

Popular singer and songwriter, Ahmedu Augustine Obiabo better known as Blackface has disclosed that Wizkid and Banky W stole his song.

According to the singer, who's infamous for calling out musicians who stole his songs, revealed that they 'jacked' his song 'I like the way'.

Blackface stated that he blames Samklef for reproducing his beats for them to use.

John Blessing, the young lady in the leaked bedroom tape with the popular singer, Oxlade, files a multimillion naira lawsuit against the vocalist.

This comes months following the viral circulation of a bedroom act between Oxlade and the lady in question which made headlines for weeks.

Blessing has however filed a lawsuit for Criminal Defamation, Negligence, and Invasion of Privacy against Oxlade as she bemoans depression following the circulation of the tape.

In the document released, Blessing also stated that the singer set her up by luring her into his home and videotaping the act without her consent while under the influence of drugs, and then sending the videos to his friends who later published them.

Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, passes on aged 83

Popular Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, has died at age 83, after ruling his community for 52 years.

It was gathered that the Alaafin died at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti, on Friday night, April 22nd.

His body has since been taken to Oyo state where his burial rites have since begun.

The monarch had been sick and a plan had been made to fly him abroad before he passed on late Friday night.

It was also gathered that tickets and those of a few wives have been bought before his sudden demise. He is survived by many wives and children.

Shan George says as she gets set to appear on-screen after 10 years –“I’m happy to be back”

Veteran Nollywood actress, Shan George is fully back on-screen after taking break from the movie industry for 10 years.

In an Instagram live interview where she made the announcement, the thespian noted that she was off to care for her late mother who was ill for 10 years.

Noting that her late mother's ailment took her off the big screens, Shan George said: "I took all that time off because I had to go take care of my mother, my mother was sick and old, and being that I am her only child I didn't have anybody I could leave her for so I just had to be there to take care of her by myself which took me 10 years, and then she passed on recently. We just finish doing the burial and I am just back to work as if I never left really, it didn't affect me much.

Describing how the acceptance has been since she returned, she said: "A lot of people were so happy to see me, let us say yes it affected me positively because I made so many friends.

"The good things that have been happening have made me not bother about the downside which is probably the fact that now they don't pay me what they used to pay me before I went on break, the money came down a bit but everybody is so happy to see me and I am overwhelmed. I want to say a big thank you to everybody in the Nollywood industry based in Asaba and those that are coming to Asaba, basically, I have been in Asaba and I have done a couple of very good jobs. I want to use this opportunity to thank the producers and directors."

Billionaire blogger, Linda Ikeji, reacts to allegations of ruining the marriage of the popular Nollywood actress, Caroline Danjuma.

Caroline had taken to Instagram to Instagram to call out the blogger for spearheading fake news about her life and how she claimed her daughter did not belong to her husband.

"Part of the reason why my marriage broke was because of Linda. I reached out to her she didn't care. I handed her court papers, she didn't care.

Linda lied about my age, I reached out to her, Linda wrote that my daughter was for another man, I reached out to her, she didn't care and you sit there to defend your family.

I have family too, I have children that look up to me, I have people that fight for me. Don't sit down there and tell me u want to slap me when your sister wrote about daughter.

My daughter has 2 fucking holes in her hearts, did you know how I coped with that? Do you think I am happy to be divorced. From the moment I got married, Linda was in my butt, I didn't snatch my husband from your sister.

I love your sister so much and I respect her so much. I don't know why she hates me. If you say you want to slap me for my sister, I will kill you. I got married for love and not money and I loved my husband and even till today," Caroline Danjuma wrote.

In response to the accusations, Linda Ikeji cleared her name as she stated affirmatively that not once has she made any publication about the actress or her marriage.

Banky W called out by Samklef over unpaid album royalties

Popular music producer, Samuel Oguachuba better known as Samklef has called out Banky W over what he claims are unpaid royalties.

Samklef took to his social media page in the early hours of Saturday morning to call out the singer.

The music producer has announced that he will be claiming 11 years of royalties from Wizkid's "Super Star" album, which he had produced.
He stated that his legal team will contact him, and that everyone who has spent his cash should contact him as well.

He closed the message by slamming Banky W, saying he needs his money back before the latter uses it to fund his political ambition.

In his words he wrote:

"Claiming all my 11 years royalties for WiZkid super star album in a bit. My Laywers will reach out. It's 50/50. Anybody wey don collect my money better reach out o! Samkef fine were o! Make dem tag Banky o! My money go don plenty o! Before him go use am campaign for election."

Kemi Adetiba weds Oscar Heman-Ackah

Nigerian movie producer, Kemi Adetiba, and Oscar Heman-Ackah, the Ghanaian music executive, have tied the knot.

The couple had their introduction and court wedding in the Ikoyi axis of Lagos state on Friday.

Sharing a loved-up photo of herself and Oscar via Instagram, she accompanied it with a terse caption: "Officially official!!!"


The event was graced with the presence of their friends and family members.

The filmmaker had disclosed that Oscar proposed to her in January at a surprise party while they were away in Ghana, and had announced her engagement to the entrepreneur in February.

A lady has broken down in tears because sensational singer, Ruger didn't touch her during his recent performance.

The singer had taken to his social media yesterday to forewarn the ladies of ABUAD not to touch him after his last encounter with a lady at his show.

Ruger who decided to take precaution on his recent show could be seen taking care not to become harassed again while performing.
The female fan who had battled to get to the front of the teeming supporters has now experienced her disappoint saying that the singer hadn't touched her despite fighting her way to the front.

Popular Comedian and actor, Debo Adedayo best known as Mr Macaroni is set to get married as he releases lovely pictures of his supposed wife to be.

Mr Macaroni had claimed few months ago that marriage scares him and hadn't been in relationship for a long time; although, after having said that it appears he's decided to take the bold step to tie the conjugal knot with his supposed bride.
