Shettima: Actor Kenneth Okonkwo decamp from APC

Tinubu's Muslim-Muslim ticket is still generating a lot of controversies. Many things have been said and are still being said. On Monday, Nollywood actor Kenneth Okonkwo announced his exit from the ruling All Progressives Congress due to the party's decision to field two Muslims for the 2023 election.

The actor made this known on Monday in a letter he shared on his Instagram page.

He said his decision became essential due to Tinubu's choice of Shettima as running mate despite calls from stakeholders and other well-meaning Nigerians to do the contrary.

Excerpt of the letter read:

Recall that joined APC because of its Constitutional vow, as true Progressives and Patriots, to eliminate all forms of discrimination and social injustice in Nigeria, thereby building the nation a nation which will guarantee equal opportunity for all and ensure mutual and peaceful co-existence among Nigerians.

Those ideals are now alien to the APC, with their unfortunate decision to paint our Muslim brothers in had light, by insinuating that the Muslims in Nigeria will not accept or vote for a Northern Christian as Vice-President to pair with a Southern Muslim.

If Muslims could vote voluntarily for Southern Christian Presidents, it is then a fallacy to insinuate that they cannot accept a Northern Christian Vice-President. This will permanently destroy the political viability of Northern Christians in Nigeria, if allowed to stand.

Being the convener of the Campaign for Equity and Justice in Nigeria, and as a former member of APC Presidential Campaign Council, which resisted same religion presidential ticket in the past, I can no longer continue to lend my name to these abnormalities in the interest of our peaceful co-existence, integration and progress of our beloved country.

Olajide Adediran, the Peoples Democratic Party Lagos State governorship candidate, has given the reason why the party chose actress Funke Akindele as his running mate.

Adediran (Jandor) explained that the actress will add more value to his candidacy in the forthcoming 2023 election than anyone else.

The Lagos PDP guber flagbearer expressed this on his Twitter thread on Tuesday as follows:

I appeal to the entire populace to work with me and my running mate, who will add more value to my candidacy.

My choice running mate is from the clear understanding of the task ahead and the need to work with a co-visionary with shared passion for the emancipation of the good people of Lagos.

This journey demands focus, resilience and tenacity. My running mate is someone who is large-hearted with a well-known history of service and advocacy.

An Ikorodu-born success story who has, through several of her projects, positively transformed our society.

I am proud to present Barrister Olufunke Ayotunde Akindele as my running mate and the Deputy Governorship candidate of the People's Democratic Party in Lagos for the 2023 general elections.

Together, we will serve and offer you a breath of fresh air.

When Akindele spoke to confirm accepting the candidacy, she used the opportunity to inform her fans that she was stepping down from her acting career.
