Buhari Mourns Shinzo Abe as he described him as an outstanding leader

President Muhammadu Buhari, on Friday, sends a condolence message of the Nigerian Government to the family, Government, and people of Japan over the death of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. Sinzo Abe was gruesomely assassinated in Naram, Japan, on Friday during a speech. He was aged 67.

Buhari said in a statement signed on Friday by Femi Adesina, Buhari's Special Adviser, Media, and Publicity that Abe will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to strengthening trade and investment between Africa and Japan through various initiatives and partnerships, using the instrumentality of Tokyo International Conference on African Development.

In the statement titled 'President Buhari commiserates with Japan on tragic death of former Prime Minister.' Buhari joined "all Japanese in mourning the loss of the country's longest-serving Prime Minister and outstanding leader."

Buhari also said that Nigeria and Japan enjoyed a strategic partnership under Abe. He added that both countries supported each other's shared aspirations on economic cooperation, healthcare, and so on.

The President finally prayed that Abe's memory would remain a blessing to his country and the people he served devotedly.

Hajj 2022: One Million Muslims Converge For First Climb Since Covid

Muslims totally about a million converged on Friday on Mount Arafat to have the first climb since the covid-19 pandemic. Since 2020, Muslims could not execute the Hajj rites because there was Covid restrictions on international pilgrims placed by the Saudi Arabian authorities.

41,000 Nigerian pilgrims added their voices by joining their Muslim brothers and sisters worldwide for the Jabbal ar-Rahmah, Mount of Mercy, as part of the Hajj 2022 rites.

Usually, pilgrims expectedly spend most of today at the mount as part of the Hajj exercise that started on Thursday Pilgrims that they left Makkah to pass the night at Muna called Tent City.

On the 9th, Dhul Hijjah, standing on Arafat, will hold, and that day is the 12th month of the Islamic calendar. Every pilgrim is obliged to perform this rite; however, pilgrims who did not perform the rite have rendered their Hajj invalid.

They must spend the day supplicating to Allah with the strong belief that Allah will automatically accept such prayers.

Mount Arafat is the mountain that the Prophet Muhammad stood to give his last sermon towards the end of this life when he proclaimed the equality of man and kindness to women etc.

Roll Call: Identities of the 69 Boko Haram Excapees from Kuje Prison

The identities of the 69 Boko Haram members who escaped from Kuje prison was released officially by the Nigerian Correctional Service on Friday.

It was gathered that the inmates whose images and names were released by the institution were held in prison for terrorism.

We had earlier reported that the inmates escaped the prison due to the malicious attack by the Islamic for West Africa Province on Tuesday night.

The NCoS said in the Friday release:

Peter Obi finally chooses running mate

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has revealed Datti Baba-Ahmed as his running mate in the forthcoming election. Labour Party announced Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed, the founder of Baze University, Abuja as the vice-presidential candidate in Abuja on Friday. Datti represented Kaduna North Senatorial district, and the former lawmaker is 46 years old. The announcement of Baba-Ahmed came 24 hours after Doyin Okupe, the Director-General of Peter Obi Campaign Organisation, withdrew as the vice-presidential candidate of the party. Okupe made the announcement via his verified Twitter handle @doyinokupe:

This afternoon I submitted my withdrawal letter from the position of the Vice Presidential candidate of the Labour Party to INEC. A replacement will be announced by d national chairman of d party shortly. I feel greatly blessed to have been part of the foundation of success 4 the LP.

How to Clear Cache for MICROSOFT EDGE

The Microsoft Edge browsers for desktop and mobile are different regarding how to clear their caches. Based on these differences, the process of clearing their caches shall be explained individually.

Clearing Cache from Desktop Edge

  1. Launch your browser and locate the three dots on the top right-hand corner of your browser
  2. Click the three dots to proceed to the next thing
  3. Now select Settings > Privacy and Security.
  4. Next, please scroll to see clear browsing data and click on it.
  5. Pick on Choose what to clear.
  6. You must check the Cached images and files for them to be part of the deleted items. 
  7. Select the Time range drop-down to choose the last hour, last 24 hours, last four weeks, or all time
  8. Select Clear now

Clearing Cache for a specific site

  1. See the three dots on the top right of your screen and click them
  2. Proceed to Settings > Cookies and site permissions > Manage and delete cookies and site data.
  3. Now scroll down the page and select See all cookies and site data.
  4. Look for the website's name in the upper right corner or scroll down to locate it.
  5. Click on the arrow pointing downward positioned near the site name, then utilize the trash can icon for clearing the cookies and data.

In addition, you can use the buttons on the page top to Remove all shown or Remove third-party cookies.

Clearing Cache from Mobile Browser 

  1. Launch the mobile app, then tap on the three dots at the bottom of the screen
  2. Proceed to Settings > Privacy and security
  3. Tap Clear browsing data
  4. Check the cached images and files, click on the drop-down menu and choose your time range.
  5. If you wish, you can toggle on Clear browsing data upon exit to clear out all your data each time you exit Edge.


How to Clear Cache for FIREFOX

To clear the data in your Firefox, you have to know that they are located in the Privacy & Security section of Firefox's settings.

  1. Launch Firefox, then locate and click on the three lines in the upper right corner of the app, then select Settings > Privacy & Security
  2. Scroll to where Cookies and Site Data are. Then select Clear Data.
  3. Click on the check box Cached Web Content (you can also check the Cookies and Site Data box to clear that too)
  4. Choose Clear
  5. In the Cookies and Site Data section, ensure you check the box that will help delete all cookies and site data when you close your browser. 

A Manage Exceptions button lets you choose any sites whose cookies you want to keep.

Clearing Cache for a specific site

To clear cache for a specific website, here is what to do:

  1. Please search for the lock icon to the left of the address bar and click on it.
  2. Select Clear cookies and site data. 
  3. Next, click Remove on the pop-up box.

However, if you wish to clear data from one or more specific sites, follow the steps below:

  1. Launch Firefox > Preferences > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data. 
  2. Tap Manage Data.
  3. Please scroll down to locate the site you want to delete data from or type its name into the search box.
  4. Highlight the site and choose to Remove Selected or Remove All.

Court Disqualifies Delta PDP guber candidate Sherrif Oborevwori

Sheriff Oborevwori was disqualified on Thursday by a federal high court in Abuja over discrepancies in his certificates. Oborevwori is the 2023 gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democracy Party (PDP) in Delta State.

According to Justice Taiwo Taiwo's ruling, Oborevwori, the state house of assembly speaker, was not qualified to contest.

David Edevbie was the one that filed the suit to lead to the disqualification of Oborevwori. The former commissioner for finance was selected by the former governor James Ibori against Oborevwori. 

However, Oborevwori was chosen by Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, the state governor and vice presidential candidate of the PDP.

Cultism: Police Arrest 30 suspected cult members in Edo State

It was the end of the road for 30 young men suspected to be cultists on Thursday as the Edo State Police Command arrested them for cultism. The suspects were arrested during different raids executed in diverse locations in Benin, the state capital.

The suspects were paraded at the State Force Headquarters, and the Police Public Relations Officer, Chidi Nwabuzor, was there to address the press. He said the suspects consist of 23 males and seven females from several cult groups tormenting the city.

According to Nwabuzor, the arrest was based on the instruction of the Commissioner of Police, Abutu Yaro, to rid the state of cultists and other criminals.

Nwabuzor said: "The police operatives of Anti-cultism Unit of the Edo State Police Command conducted raid exercise in different parts of the state in criminal hideouts and black spots and arrested 23 males and seven females and brought them to the station.

"This serves as a warning to other criminals in the state either to repent or relocate. This exercise is a continuous one to ensure that the state is rid of criminal elements," he added.

The suspects said Nwabuzor had given confessional statements and would be charged to court after the investigations by the police.

Sallah Holiday: FG declares two days of public holiday

Monday and Tuesday next week have been declared public holidays by the Federal Government to mark this year's Eid-el-Kabir.

The ministry of interior announced this on Thursday on its official Twitter page. The message reads:

On Saturday, Muslim faithfuls all over the world are to mark this year's Eid-el-Kabir festival.

According to Islamic belief, the festival marks the importance of obedience and sacrifice as typified by the Prophet Ibrahim, who was asked to sacrifice his son by Allah. When Allah saw that he was willing to do it, He(Allah) replaced the sacrifice with a ram.

Every Muslim throughout the globe will kill a ram in remembrance of that sacrifice.

Odumeje’s church building, demolished by the Anambra task force

News reaching us is that Anambra State Task Force has just demolished parts of the church building of popular pastor Prophet Chukwuemeka Ohanaemre aka 'Odumeje.' 

 

The church named The Mountain of Holy Ghost Intervention and Deliverance Ministry or Land of Freedom is located in Onitsha and was demolished on Thursday. 

 

The State Government has earlier marked it for demolition and tagged it an "illegal building" for encroaching on a huge canal.

 

The report has it that only part of the church building was demolished - the building housing the generating set and the security office.

 

It was also gathered that the task force officials stormed the church premises on Thursday to carry out the demolition. During the event, there was a face-off between the task force officials and the Pastor.

 

The security men even tried to arrest the pastor for resisting the demolition activities, and they manhandled him in the process.

UK court ruled that Ekweremadu’s kidney donor is 21 and not 15

The case of Ekweremadu and David Nwamini Ukpo went before a Westminster Magistrates Court in the United Kingdom on Wednesday. 

 

The court, after the sitting, ruled that the alleged kidney donor for Senator Ike Ekweremadu's daughter is 21 and not 15 years old.

 

According to Arise TV, Ukpo admitted to the court that he is not 15 but 21. He added that he had been in the UK since February but showed himself to the police in May.

Lagos police alert Lagosians about the Black Axe Day celebration

According to the Wednesday statement of the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the force utilized credible intelligence to discover that the hoodlums and cultists had planned that on Thursday, July 7, 2022, they would celebrate the 7/7 Neo Black Movement of Africa Day, popularly known as Black Axe Day.

 

Hundeyin said, "In view of this, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi, in very strong terms, warns these groups with the intent to scuttle the peace being enjoyed in the state to shelve their plans.

 

"Consequently, the command's tactical teams, Area Commanders, and DPOs in collaboration with other sister agencies are fully prepared to clamp down heavily on organisers, leaders, and progenitors of such sinister groups whose aim is to cause wanton violence in the state.

 

"The command is therefore using this medium to appeal to parents and guardians to warn their children/wards to steer clear of any unlawful gathering or society before, during, and after the said date.

 

"Also, hoteliers are by this release warned not to allow their facilities be used for any cult-related gathering as owners of such facilities will be liable to prosecutions."

 

The Commissioner of Police enjoined all residents to go about their lawful duties without fear of harassment or intimidation and be law-abiding and vigilant.

Learn How to clear your cache from different browsers

If you have an issue with space on your computer or phone, clearing the cache can supply you with tons of space. However, many do not understand the importance of clearing cache; they must be reminded to do it. This post shall teach you how to clear cache for different browsers. In addition, you shall understand how to clear cache for a single site if you do not want to do it for the entire browser.

How To Clear Cache on CHROME

  1. Launch your Chrome browser, then click on the three dots in the upper right corner.
  2. If you are using the desktop version, select More Tools > Clear Browsing Data... 
  3. However, select Settings > Privacy and security > Clear browsing data if you are on the mobile app.
  4. Check the Cached images and files box. When the options window is opened, you can also elect to clear your browsing history and cookies. You can achieve this by clicking on the Advanced tab to get more specific.
  5. Apply the Time range drop-down menu to choose the date range you want to go. However, if you are clearing your cache, select All time.
  6. Click on the Clear data button to go.
  7. Clearing Data From A Specific Site

If you wish to clear the cache for a specific site, launch the browser, then click the three dots on the top right

  1. Proceed to Settings > Privacy and security > Cookies and other site data.
  2. Scroll down, and when you See all cookies and site data, you will see different names. Search for the name of the website in the upper right corner and select the trash can icon to the right.

How To Clear Cache on SAFARI

  1. Launch Safari browser, then click the Clear history box
  2. It's a seamless process to rid Safari of all data.
  3. The browser makes it seamless to clear all your data — including cache, browsing history, and cookies — at a click. However, it's not apparent if you want to clear your cache.
  4. To do it the easy way:
  5. Launch the browser if you are using the desktop browser, then proceed to the top menu. At the topp menu, you would see Safari, select it, then Clear History.
  6. Pick the period you wish, i.e., last hour, today, today, and yesterday, all History. 
  7. Click on Clear History - it's as simple as that.

If you are on iPhone, tap the Bookmarks icon at the bottom of the screen, which is the open book icon and History icon, i.e., the clock icon) 

  1. Pick the Clear button and select your time.
  2. To clear everything on the browser cache on your web browser it's a little more complicated.
  3. Check to confirm the Develop section located at the top menu of Safari. If you do not, proceed to Safari > Preferences... > Advanced and check Show Develop in the menu bar.
  4. Tap Develop > Empty Caches
  5. Clearing Data On Specific Sites
  6. Click on Safari > Preferences...
  7. Click the Privacy tab and then Manage Website Data...
  8. You'll get a list of websites. To remove one, click on it and then click Remove. To remove all website data from Safari, click Remove All.

Kuje Prison Break: ISWAP Claims responsibility

In a 38-second video released by the Islamic State in West Africa Province, the group claimed they were responsible for the Kuje Prison attack.

The group released the video on Wednesday night, showing how some of its members gained access to the prison.

The video revealed that the terrorists shot sporadically before entering the prison. The video was released on Wednesday on the news channel of the Islamic State, written in Arabic. The write-up goes, "Fighters of Islamic State attacked Kuje prison in Abuja yesterday and succeeded in releasing many prisoners."

An older man and young men were seen in the video shouting while claiming responsibility for the attack. Many fighters can be seen marching while vehicles and buildings are on fire.

Reports revealed that four inmates died, and 879 escaped during the attack.

Abubakar Umar, the Service Public Relations Officer, said the attackers forced their way into the prison facilities with explosives via the main entrance. They destroyed the fence also in the process.

According to him, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps official attached to the Custodial Centre was killed, while three officials of the NCoS escaped with serious injuries.

A total of 879 inmates escaped from the facility during the unfortunate attack. As of the time of this report, 443 have been recaptured, 551 inmates are currently in custody, and 443 inmates are still at large.

"Four inmates are dead and 16 inmates sustained various degree of injuries and are being treated at the moment. However, efforts are ongoing to recapture all fleeing inmates, " Umar said.

Finally, he confirmed that Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari and other VIPs held in the facility did not escape.

Barkindo, OPEC Secretary-General, dies after being honored by Buhari

Barkindo's death was announced by Mele Kyari, the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, on his Twitter verified handle.

Two Policemen Killed As Terrorists Attacked President Buhari’s Advance Team

The convoy cars transporting President Buhari's advance team of security guards, protocol, and media officers were attacked by terrorists. The attack led to the death of two policemen.

It was gathered that the advance team of the Presidency was travelling to Daura ahead of the trip of President Buhari to his hometown for Salah.

In a statement confirming the attack, Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, did not state the casualty figure.

The statement was titled "Gallant presidential guards repel attack on advance team ahead of President's visit." 


The content is as follows:

The Presidency has described as sad and unwelcome, the shooting incident near Dutsinma, Katsina State, at the convoy of cars carrying the Advance Team of security guards, protocol and media officers ahead of the President, Muhammadu Buhari's trip to Daura for Sallah.

The attackers opened fire on the convoy from ambush positions but were repelled by the military, police and DSS personnel accompanying the convoy.

Two persons in the convoy are receiving treatment for the minor injuries they suffered. All the other personnel, staff and vehicles made it safely to Daura.


However, the spokesman of the Katsina State Police Command, Gambo Isah, in a different statement, confirmed that Aminu Umar, the Police Area Commander for Dutsinma, and another cop died in the ambush.


Isah's statement did not explain if the attack was on the presidential team.


The statement goes thus:

Today (Tuesday), July 5, 2022, at about 11.30 am, a distress call was received that terrorists numbering over 300, on motorcycles, shooting sporadically with AK 47 rifles and General Purpose Machine Guns, ambushed ACP Aminu Umar, Area Commander, Dutsinma and team, while on clearance operation of recalcitrant bandits/terrorists, in Zakka Forest, Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State.

Consequently, the Area Commander and one other gallantly lost their lives during a cross exchange of gunfire.

The Commissioner of Police, Idrisu Dauda, on behalf of the officers and men of the command, expresses his deep sympathy to the family of the deceased and pray to almighty Allah to repose their souls in Jannatul Firdausi.

20-Seater Boat Capsize In Lagos, Two female passengers die

It was a gloomy day on Wednesday as two female passengers of an ill-fated 20-seater boat capsized. The boat was reported to depart the Ipakodo ferry terminal in Ikorodu and capsized almost immediately after take-off.

The General Manager of Lagos State Waterways Authority, Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, who made this known in a statement, said the boat capsized almost immediately after take-off.

The General Manager of Lagos State Waterways Authority, Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, said 15 passengers of the ill-fated boat were rescued alive but two drowned.

The statement read: 

At about 7.45 am today (Wednesday), the 6th of July 2022, a 20 passenger ferry boat carrying 17 passengers named "R & N 2" suddenly capsized not more than 200 meters from the terminal and submerged immediately after it departed the Ipakodo ferry terminal in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.

The Water guards and the search and rescue team of the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) were mobilized to the scene of the incident, leading to the rescue of 15 persons alive.

While two female unconscious passengers were rushed to the nearest hospital for treatment. They were, however, later confirmed dead at the hospital.

The Boat Captain is currently being investigated by the relevant authorities while full investigation into the cause of this mishap is ongoing as of the time of this press release."

Prison Break Update: More than 600 inmates escape from Kuje prison

Following the attack on Kuje prison on Tuesday night, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Shuaib Belgore confirmed that over 600 inmates eloped the prisons.

He further confirmed that it was Boko Haram terrorists that attacked the prisons because they came to rescue their members held in the prison.


He, said out of the 600 fleeing inmates, about 300 had been recaptured leaving 300 still at large. He said all these while speaking to newsmen and added that an operative of the Nigeria Security Civil Defence Corps died in the attack.


In his words:

There have been several attacks on our facilities most of them are being repelled, but every now and then, there is one that they have succeeded. In this is one they came very determined with high explosives.


The initial entry attempt was unsuccessful, then they attacked another section of the wall with higher-grade explosives which brought the wall down.


The forces on the ground did everything they could to repel them but the number they came with was high which they were not able to defend against. They kept on fighting gallantly unfortunately the breach happened. Reinforcement came when they were halfway through it. They were eventually repelled.

 

At the time they came in they killed one NSCDC operative while trying to save the situation. The inmates here are 994.


We understand they are Boko Haram terrorists and came specifically came for their conspirators. Many of them have returned, some were retrieved from the bushes they were hiding, right now we have retrieved about 300 out of about 600 that got out of the jail.

    Android 12 came with several minor changes that you should consider, and these include:

  1. HEVC media transcoding: Some Apps come without support for HEVC; hence Android 12 can help transcode it into AVC format for flexibility.
  2. AVIF image support: AVIF happens to be an image codec like JPEG or PNG. The format bears the same quality as JPEG but not much storage space on your device. It utilizes the AV1 codec from Android 10.
  3. Multi-channel audio: With Android 12, you now have MPEG-H in passthrough and offload modes. The multi-channel audio now supports up to 24 channels.

  7. Picture-in-picture improvements: Viewing media under picture-in-picture mode is better now. It transits smoothly, improving the control for a better viewing experience.

4. Security and privacy improvements

Google did little with security and privacy improvements in this Android version. Google opted for extensive and more impactful changes.

  • Microphone and camera indicators

    Android 12 has indicators for camera and microphone use and shows at the top right corner of your screen when an app accesses any of them. A color code indicates the active or inactive microphone or camera. You can disable both your camera and microphone for added security.

  • Approximate location

    With Android 12, approximate location permission is granted. The approximate location permission allows apps to pinpoint your location every time. You can also choose which permission to allow any app.

  • Smaller security updates

    Part of Android 12 includes the following security updates:

a) Restricted Netlink MAC: In Android 12, Google restricts all apps from reading your device's Netlink MAC address. Before 12, 11 allows only privileged apps to access the address.

b) Bluetooth permission changes: With Android 12, apps can scan for Bluetooth devices without asking you for your location.

c) Device sensor restrictions: Device sensors are now improved and come with refresh restrictions.

    AppSearch can help you search for things within apps and return results from the apps. For example, if you search for an image in an app, the search will direct you to that image without entering the app. AppSearch can work offline, too, and the usefulness is immense.   • Upgraded auto-rotate

    The enhanced auto-rotate of Android 12 is a game-changer. Unlike the auto-rotate used in the past that uses your phone's accelerometer, Android 12's auto-rotate uses face detection. The phone looks at the user's face and only rotates the phone when it sees your phone has changed its orientation. Hence when you lay in bed on your side, your phone won't annoyingly turn but will watch your face to know when best to rotate.

Now, it features a small button below that allows users to use Nearby Share to send their Wi-Fi credentials to another phone. It shares with multiple people faster than before without asking you to hold your phone up for others to scan. 

  • One-handed mode

    With ease, you can operate your phone with just one hand with the Android 12 One-handed mode. With the mode, you can reach anything with one hand, especially on taller phones. The mode cuts everything down to half size, making it look like multi-window mode, only that the top half of the screen is blank. 

  • Rich content insertion

    This feature is an API for developers that allows their apps to move media between apps. You can easily copy and paste different media items like images from app A to app B. You can also move marked-up text, audio files, videos, etc.

  • Audio selection in the media player

    You can easily change your audio source with this feature. You can quickly switch from your Bluetooth speaker to a phone's speaker by pressing a single button.

  • Overview suggestions

    This newly added overview suggestions feature allows you to see suggestions for things to do. For example, if you opened your browser while on another app, your recent apps may suggest you copy the link to the page you have up for easier sharing.

  • Other minor additions

    There are little additions here and there with Android 12, and these include a load of new emoji, a screen dimming mode, tweaked gesture controls, etc.

3. New Under-the-hood features

Different Android version features various under-the-hood changes too long to mention. The changes are primarily new APIs for developers for the ultimate performance of apps. These include things you can't easily see, and these include:

  • Haptic feedback coupled with audio.

    Primarily used in gaming, this feature vibrates in response to whatever is happening on your screen. For example, while playing a game, if there is a crash or explosion, the phone vibrates. Besides gaming, the feature is also used in movies or syncing vibration with custom ringtones.

  • App hibernation

    When apps are unused over time, Android 12 houses them in the new, unused app section and puts them to sleep. They will be inactive until you use them again. You can also apply per-app basis.

  • Game Mode APIs

    The new Game Mode APIs of Android 12 for developers allows developers to add variable performance functions to your for easier optimization. For example, a developer can have a mode that lowers performance but save battery life.

Prison Break: Kuje Prison, Abuja Under Attack By Terrorists

It was a tale of panic and fear on Tuesday night among residents of Kuje, Abuja, as a group of terrorists reportedly attacked the Kuje Medium Custodial Centre. Our source reported that sounds of explosions were heard before sporadic shootings followed in a jailbreak attempt. 

A high-calibre bomb was said to have gone off at about 10.25 pm, then a second and third blast before gunshots rented the air. 


Residents were thrown into a state of apprehension as a result of the repeated gunshot and earlier explosions. According to Punch, a resident identified as Joshua Friday said that shootings have been going on for more than 20 minutes.


Friday said, "Currently in Kuje and the shooting has been going on for almost 20 minutes now. I can't tell you what is happening whether it is a robbery or not but we have been hearing that gunshots repeatedly around the area the prison is located. We are all scared as I speak to you. " 

 

Neither the officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service nor the police is yet to provide any useful information about the situation.

Tinubu’s Running Mate: El-Rufai Choice Opposed as choice by group

Tinubu Support Organisation described El-Rufai as the most suitable candidate running mare to APC presidential flag bearer in the forthcoming election, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. 

However, the news did not go down well with some members of the APC because some disgruntled youths from the North East Stakeholders Forum of the APC have outrightly rejected the open endorsement of Nasir el-Rufai, Kaduna State Governor.

While speaking to journalists in Kaduna on Monday, the Director-General of Tinubu Support Organisation, Aminu Suleiman, said it was after a consultative meeting with the party's important stakeholders in the North-West geopolitical zone to elect the Kaduna governor as the best among the contenders.

He said that since the North-West represents Nigeria's single largest voting bloc, it should produce the next Vice President. He did not fail to mention that many outstanding individuals in the APC could fit the bill as Tinubu's running mate.

Haruna Sardauna, Chairman of the APC North-East Youth Stakeholders Forum, opposed the development on Monday night, urging Nigerians to reject el-Rufai's imposition on the country.

Sardauna said:

The North East should be given the slot, considering the sacrifices the region has made for the party in the 2015 and 2019 general elections. North-East APC Youth Stakeholders Forum, on behalf of our region, wants the party and President Muhammadu Buhari to zone the VP slot to our region unconditionally. 

For President Muhammadu Buhari's election as Nigeria's president in 2015 and 2019, the area (North-East) donated more than 70 per cent of their votes in both elections. In our view, it's time for the North-East to be recognized not only for their role in ousting a sitting President but also for supporting Buhari and the APC's progressive principles.

It's not wrong to say this is our time, and it's not right to deny this opportunity to our region, morally. Choosing a vice president from a different region would be political suicide because of the significant amount of votes from the region, especially when Atiku emerged as the PDP's flagbearer.

It is on the basis of the reality that a son of the region must serve as Vice President in order to secure our region's bloc votes; we offer this recommendation.

It is our hope that our dear President Muhammadu Buhari and the National Working Committee of our great party will take these concerns seriously and do the essential for the progress and success of our party and country.

ASUU ready to call off strike if FG meet their conditions

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) said that they can call the over three-month-old strike anytime from now.

The union on Monday gave the condition for FG to meet to end the strike immediately. Recall that many public universities have been closed since the strike began.

According to the president of ASUU, Emmanuel Osedeke, the condition was one, and that is for the FG to accept the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) payment platform.

The union president made this revelation on Monday night while speaking on Channels Television. He said the union would not back down if the government refused to meet the condition to accept UTAS and honour the 2009 agreement.

He said:

Let government tell us they have finished testing the UTAS and sign the agreement; then tomorrow, we will call off the strike,"

"We challenge the government, when would they sign the agreement? When would they accept UTAS? These are the two questions we should ask Nigerian government."

"Go to Ghana there or South Africa and see if you can compare them – that is our struggle – We call ourselves the giants of Africa.

"We are simply waiting for government to sign the agreement – Once that is done we will call off the strike."

He also made it clear that their demands are in the interest of Nigerian students. They want to ensure they start learning in conducive environments.

For over three years, ASUU has been slugging it out with the FG over its refusal to meet their demands based on their 2009 agreement.

2023 Election: Kaduna APC Gubernatorial Candidate Picks El-Rufai's deputy as running mate

Senator Uba Sani, the Gubernatorial candidate of the APC in Kaduna State, has selected Governor Nasir El-Rufai's Deputy, Dr. Hadiza Balarabe, as his running mate for the 2023 governorship race in the state.

Senator Uba Sani broke the news on Monday night after an exclusive meeting with the state's critical stakeholders.

He said he was delighted to announce that he picked Her Excellency, Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe as his running mate in the 2023 governorship election in Kaduna State.

Sani, who happened to be the incumbent senator representing the Kaduna Central Senatorial District, explained that his choice resulted from Dr. Hadiza's immense contribution and track record in the state.

In his words:

"Dr. Balarabe has demonstrated hard work, punctuality, dedication, and team spirit in the discharge of her responsibility as Deputy Governor, which has endeared her to the critical stakeholders in the state.

"I wish to therefore call on the good people of Kaduna State to support the choice of Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe as my running mate. The Redeemer’s Nursery and Primary School, Ogba, shut down by Lagos State Government

Following the incident of the drowning of a five-year-old pupil during a swimming lesson, the Lagos State Ministry of Education has shut down the Redeemer's Nursery and Primary School.

The shutdown was announced on Monday by the Commission for Education, Folasade Adefisayo. 

The commissioner revealed this in a statement titled, "Lagos State Shuts Redeemers Nursery and Primary School.'

The boy, Chidera Eze, drowned during a swimming lesson organized by the school in the Ikeja area of the state in May 2022. When the incident occurred, the school's teachers and caregivers took the boy and his classmates to the Ivory Health Club, Ogundana Street, Ikeja for a swimming lesson.

It was reported that while the swimming lessons were on, Chidera played with his colleagues at the tip of the pool before he slipped into it.

In the commissioner's words:

The school will remain closed, pending an administrative investigation of its operations and procedures as well as the conduct of its officials – in line with schools' safety standards and guidelines.

The investigation is sequel to the death of a five-year-old pupil, who is suspected to have drowned during a swimming lesson while in the custody of the school.

The police are investigating the matter.

A preliminary probe by the Office of Education Quality Assurance of the Ministry has shown that the Redeemers Nursery and Primary School, Ogba, is yet to conclude its registration and is, therefore, not yet an approved school.

The Ministry is concerned about the safety of the pupils, hence the need for intervention.

The school will remain closed until all the required approval processes are concluded. Parents are advised to note the closure and wait for the conclusion of the administrative investigation.
