March 13, 2023 Today on New Security Beat A Land Grab or a Boon for Communities: Renewable Hydrogen in the Norwegian Arctic By Benno Fladvad and Aliaksei Patonia Green hydrogen offers a promising form of renewable energy storage for remote areas such as Norway's East-Finnmark district, but expanding green infrastructure brings risks to the Arctic environment and the livelihoods of Indigenous Sami people. Given these challenges, it is critical that green infrastructure projects not only create green jobs but also recognize the rights and culture of the region's Indigenous people.
