March 7, 2023 Today on New Security Beat Climate Security and Critical Minerals Mining in Latin America: How Can Business Help? By Héctor Camilo Morales Muñoz, Johanna Dieffenbacher, Raquel Munayer & Beatrice Mosello Extracting green energy minerals could contribute to inclusive development in Latin America, but mining comes with serious risks to the environment and to the local communities who depend on and defend ecosystems—especially the region's Afro-descendants and Indigenous people. In the face of these challenges, responsible business conduct (RBC) in mining is a crucial tool to minimize negative impacts, increase dialogue, and drive development in the region.
