December 21, 2023 Today on New Security Beat Bottom-Up Food Waste and Climate Solution in China By Xuehua Zhang China is the world's largest emitter of methane, a short-lived climate pollutant that traps 80 times more heat than carbon. Food waste, one of the top sources of methane emissions in China, accounts for approximately 50% of municipal solid waste, posing severe challenges to the country's methane emission reduction efforts. Community composting provides a win-win solution to manage food waste and turn it into a rich fertilizer for urban gardens
