Research Assistant - Industry & Financial Analysis

The Investment Company Institute (ICI) is a leading global association of regulated funds, including mutual funds, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), closed-end funds, and unit investment trusts (UITs) in the United States, and similar funds offered to investors in jurisdictions worldwide. We currently have an opening for a Research Assistant in the Industry and Financial Analysis division of our Research department. The Research Assistant will provide research assistance to Senior Economists, and under their direction, analyzes economic, financial and mutual fund industry developments and trends.

Major Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assists in economic and finance research projects, including the assembling of (potentially large) databases from the Institute and outside sources and performing applications of econometric and statistical programs.
  • Accesses, retrieves, and works with survey or statistical data from the Institute or external sources.
  • Helps to ensure the accuracy and reliability of data collected and used in research projects.
  • Collects and enters data and helps maintain databases.
  • Prepares charts and tables for presentations and publications.
  • Undertakes other tasks as directed by senior staff.

Business Analytics Internship, Washington Nationals

This position, reporting to the Director, Revenue Strategy & Analytics, is responsible for producing data-driven analyses and recommendations to support marketing and revenue generating departments. This position will require knowledge and ability to extract data and produce insights from myriad sources, including the Nationals' data warehouse and external secondary research. Strong written and oral communications skills will be required in producing documents to be presented to senior Nationals executives, including the Executive Director of Business Strategy & Analytics, SVP of Consumer Revenue, and Chief Revenue and Marketing Officer.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  • Contribute to analytics projects, applying a wide range of methodologies, to support decision-making in revenue generating departments
  • Conduct secondary research as needed, including information gathering from industry associations and research companies
  • Develop a deep understanding of the Nationals' key data sources and integration points within the Nationals' data warehouse
  • Work with MLB Advanced Media to analyze Fanalytics (digital marketing) data to understand the effectiveness of various marketing campaigns
  • Support in developing 3rd party marketing partnership strategy

Requirements:

  • Must be a rising senior in a top undergraduate program, majoring in engineering, mathematics, business, economics or a closely related field
  • Strong academic record

Federal Reserve Board of Governors Tour

The Economics Association of Maryland (EAM) has coordinated a tour of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors to take place on the morning of April 6th. We will be leaving together and taking the metro (cost of travel will not be covered). The tour is open to current University of Maryland students, with all majors eligible to attend. Seats are limited, with only 25 slots available. Spots will be reserved on a first come, first serve basis.
