The Officer identified as Lieutenant-Colonel AE Mamudu, is one of the commanding officers of the Nigerian Army Strike Force Group, who was killed last Thursday, by a vehicle-borne Improvised Explosive Device in Sambisa Forest. | Jim Ovia Gives Pledge Of N250 Million To The Lagos State Security Trust Fund Posted: 07 Mar 2018 11:31 PM PST Jim Ovia Gives Pledge Of N250 Million To The Lagos State Security Trust Fund The Founder/Chairman, Zenith Bank Plc, Mr. Jim Ovia, on Tuesday made a re-confirmation of his support to the Lagos State Security Trust Fund by making a fresh pledge of an additional 150 percent of previous donations to the Trust Fund. He made the announcement on behalf of Zenith Bank Board of Directors during the recently-concluded meeting with the Governor of Lagos State, His Excellency, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode on the 6th of March, 2018 at the Lagos Means Business forum at Eko Hotels & Suites.Mr. Ovia praised the Government of Lagos State under Governor Ambode, for encouraging and providing enabling environment for businesses in Lagos State, especially the remarkable improvement in security across the state. Mr. Ovia, disclosed further that the Lagos State Security Trust Fund has become a model for other states across the federation. He thus encouraged other private sector stakeholders to increase their contribution in funding the security initiative.While stating the nature of security in Lagos State, Mr. Ovia lauded the leadership style of Governor Ambode, likening the state to an incorporated enterprise being so efficiently run by its Chief Executive Officer, in this case, Executive Governor Ambode.The Lagos State Security Trust Fund was established on 3rd September 2007 by the Lagos State Government as a public-private partnership for the improvement of security in Lagos State, and successive governments in the state had been running with the vision. | APC Has Borrowed More Than PDP Without Any Programme - Senator Dino Melaye Reveals Posted: 07 Mar 2018 08:10 AM PST Senator Dino Melaye representing Kogi West in the Upper House has disclosed that the government of President Muhammadu Buhari has in three years borrowed more than previous governments of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, put together in 16 years, without any clearly defined or identified programme to point at.The Senator who reacting to the issue of the President denying assent to the bill seeking the establishment of Peace Corps of Nigeria.Senator Melaye, while adopting a point of order on Wednesday during plenary at the Senate and observing all rules, urged the upper legislative chamber to revisit the bill with a view to veto the President if he fails to rescind his rejection of the bill."The same thing happened when the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps was to be established; there was also the same complaint that there was no money and all of that. "But today, we can see the advantages of the civil defence and how they have helped in safeguarding government infrastructure. "About $5.5bn was borrowed from euro bond; what part of it will the youths of this country benefit from? "About $1bn is to be spent on security and how does this affect the youth of this country. "Without fear or favour, the Peoples Democratic Party, in 16 years, borrowed N6tn and this government in three years, has borrowed N11tn but there is no specific programme that will empower the youth. "Also, N500bn was earmarked for the social investment programme of the Federal Government, but we have not seen any impact. "If the Peace Corps is given an opportunity to exist, thousands will be employed and this will help to fight unemployment in this country. "We may need to write Mr. President to review his position; if not, we have the power on behalf of the Nigerian youths who voted us to veto him so that people will become the ultimate beneficiaries of this bill. "The youth of this country must be given priority and they must be respected," he said. Thereafter, the Senate urged the President to review his position in withholding assent on the bill. | Shuibu Moni Issues Fresh Threats Against Nigeria; In New Video Posted: 07 Mar 2018 07:51 AM PST Shuibu Moni Issues Fresh Threats Against Nigeria; In New Video Shuibu Moni, Boko Haram Commander who was freed in Chibok Girls Swap Deal reappears, and has issued fresh threats against Nigeria The Boko Haram commander who was freed in exchange for some 82 kidnapped Chibok girls in a deal facilitated by the Swedish government last May has issued fresh threats against the Nigerian state. A video which was made available to Saharareporters exclusively shows Moni and some members of his group displaying firepower in Sambisa forest. Moni, who spoke in Hausa and Arabic stated that contrary to claims by the Nigerian government that Boko Haram fighters have been chased out of Sambisa forest in Borno state, they (Boko Haram terrorists) remain firmly on ground. He subsequently threatened to unleash further violence on Nigeria in coming days. Moni made no mention of the recently kidnapped Dapchi school girls. the girls are believed to be in the custody of another faction controlled by Abu Musab al-Barnawi, a small group recognized by ISIS. | A Teenager Has Been Apprehended For Selling Her 2-months Old Baby For N120,000 Posted: 07 Mar 2018 02:40 AM PST A Teenager Has Been Apprehended For Selling Her 2-months Old Baby For N120,000 A teenager and two traffickers of children has been apprehended by CIDs from the Imo State Police Command over the sale of a two months old baby.The Commissioner of Police in charge of the state, Mr. Chris Ezike, while parading the suspects revealed that the teenager identified as Chiamaka Njoku, who is 18 years old, hail from Umuokpo Emeabiam Owerri West LGA of Imo state, gave birth on the 10th of December, 2017, and sold the baby girl for N120,000, two months later.The other suspect, 53-year-old Franca Chukwukere, a mum of 3 from Umuelem, Ihiagwa, Owerri West LGA of Imo state harboured the pregnant teenager till she delivered. She forged an orphanage document and sold the baby for N300,000 sending N120,000 to the owner of the baby through the other accomplice Justice Okere. Okere Justice, 42, who is also married with kids kept the teenager before trafficking the child and sending her to Chukwukere, who operates an illegal Orphanage.  |
