Buhari's Silence On Illegal Attempt To Impeach Ortom, Shocks Us- R-APC

Posted: 30 Jul 2018 05:15 PM PDT

Benue Lawmakers

President Muhammadu Buhari's silence on the "illegal" attempt to impeach Samuel Ortom, governor of Benue state, is embarrassingly shocking to us, the Reformed-All Progressives Congress (R-APC) discloses.

According to media reports, eight lawmakers of the state house of assembly had commenced impeachment proceeding against the governor on Monday, while some 22 others were reportedly blocked from attending plenary by the police.

The names of the 8 lawmakers are; Terhemba Chabo, Benjamin Nungwa, Bem Mngutyo, Adams Okloho, James Okefe, Adanyi Benjamin, and Nick Eworo.

The CableNG reported that Mr. Kazeem Afegbua, spokesman of the R-APC, said Buhari's silence suggests he is the "chief promoter of undemocratic illegalities that have consistently undermined our democratic engagements in the last three years".

Afegbua alleged that there is an attempt to force down the "bitter pills" of Buhari's second term agenda down the throat of Nigerians.

"On the one hand, the APC party leadership declared that they aren't losing sleep over our members activities ostensibly to present a fake personae but it has consistently mounted pressure on our members to capitulate under the influence of mouth-watering promises," he said.

"Now that our member Governor Ortom has given the APC red card, and deservedly so, heaven has been let loose and President Buhari has maintained a conspiratorial silence and deliberately feigning ignorance over the democratic gangsterism that has dominated Benue assembly at present."

The group said the Monday incident and similar ones in Benue show Nigeria's democracy is "seriously under threat" by those trying to "armtwist the Benue people against their will."

The statement further reads, "this desperation is getting too much and it must be arrested forthwith without equivocation before this democracy is reduced to a mindless rubble."

"We cannot afford to feign ignorance over this heinous crime against humanity under an atmosphere of threat, tension and harassment that has assumed the second nature of this government," the group added.

"It is becoming petty that this government has descended to a level of irredeemable dictatorship and outright desperation in the name of forcing the bitter pills of second term down the throat of Nigerians.

"We cannot continue to pretend that all is well when our country is gradually descending to the abyss of maximum rulership orchestrated by the president's foot soldiers.

"We are therefore raising alarm that this democracy must be saved from the indecent grip of APC agents of suppression and oppression under the clear supervision of the president."

Lai Mohammed Insists On Removal Of Saraki’s Loyalists In Kwara APC

Posted: 30 Jul 2018 03:36 PM PDT

Alhaji Lai Mohammed

Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and Culture, says there is no going back on delivering Kwara to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019.

The Minister, on Monday in a statement he personally issued in Abuja, said the party would open its doors to hordes of those willing to join and reposition the party ahead of the 2019 general elections.

According to the Daily Post, Mohammed had demanded that the Balogun Fulani-led Kwara APC executive committee loyal to Senate President Bukola Saraki be dissolved.

In the new statement which responded to comments made by APC Kwara South senatorial chairman, Alhaji Jimoh Balogun, Mohammed said his new leadership of APC in Kwara would not cede the state to double agents.

He said the challenge by Balogun to his membership of and contributions to the APC was inconsequential.

"The issue of my membership of the APC, as well as my contributions to the growth of the party in Kwara and indeed in Nigeria as a whole, is settled and not subject to any contestation.

"For those who may be engaging in mischief over this, the massive turnout of APC members and supporters to welcome me during my trip home this past weekend for a stakeholders' consultative meeting should serve as ample confirmation.

"The truth is that those who are making this allegation are the ones who need to validate their membership of our great party since they have left no one in any doubt about their status as 'double agents'.

"Alhaji Balogun is one of the three Kwara Senatorial Chairmen who recently called on their leader to take them out of the APC.

"As far as our members are concerned, these Janus-faced people are just waiting to crash the APC in Kwara before they escape to the other side," he said.

The Minister said his critics were rattled because of the decision not to allow them to actualise their nefarious plan.

Imo Deputy Governor Has Been Impeached

Eze Madumere - Deputy Governor of Imo State

Eze Madumere, the Deputy Governor of Imo State, has been impeached.

According to media reports this afternoon, Madumere was impeached by 19 out of the 37 members of the Imo House of Assembly. The lawmakers had earlier received a report by a panel set up by the state chief judge which allegedly indicted Mr Madumere of gross misconduct.

Madumere has been having a running political tussle with Rochas Okorocha, the State Governor,  who reportedly supports his son-in-law, Uche Nwosu to succeed him rather than Madumere.

While Mr Madumere seeks to succeed Mr Okorocha, the governor reportedly supports his son-in-law.

The crisis deepened during the APC local and state congresses in the state with Mr Okorocha and his deputy supporting separate factions.

Although the APC faction supported by Mr Madumere and a senator, Osita Izunaso, was initially recognised by the national leadership of the party, its election was upturned by the court.

However, earlier, there had been report of a court order, by Justice Ben Iheka of the Imo State High Court on Monday which restrained the panel set up by the Chief Judge of the state, Paschal Nnadi, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Acho Ihim, and the State House of Assembly from taking any further action in the impeachment process of the Eze Madumere, the State Deputy Governor,  until the hearing and determination of the suit.

More details will follow later....

President Muhammadu Buhari has instructed Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau state to bring 83-year-old Imam of Nghar village, Gashish district in Barkin Ladi local government area of the state, Abdullahi Abubakar, for "a hand shake and national honour."

The Punch reports that the president reportedly took the decision following reports that the Imam saved about 300 persons on June 24 when suspected herdsmen invaded 15 communities in Barkin Ladi LGA, killing scores.

Why Buhari Will Win 2019 Presidential Election - Akeredolu

Posted: 30 Jul 2018 03:10 AM PDT

Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu and President Buhari

The Governor of Ondo State, Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu has disclosed that he is confident that President Muhammadu Buhari would win the 2019 Presidential Election for a second term in office.

Akeredolu who is in Atlanta, U.S, said that Buhari has done well and deserved to be re-elected, in spite of obvious challenges.

"I followed the achievements he (Buhari) has had within this four short years but he's not someone that is given to making noise.

"A lot has changed in our country and there's need for continuity; no doubt, we have had our challenges.

"No doubt, at the tail end, a number of challenges came about on security.

"But that notwithstanding, to get us out of recession within a short time is not a mean feat; people don't just appreciate it.

Read also: Don't Run Against Me In 2019 Election, Buhari Begs Nigerian Youths

"To now talk about a number of other things; when you talk about light, where you have light, is anybody talking about it?

"To talk about what we have been able to save in terms of cutting corruption, so many lives are affected by that.

"So, I believe that within this short four years, President Buhari has done a lot,'' the governor said.

Akeredolu urged Nigerians to see to the re-election of President Buhari for another term to stabilise the economy and block leakages.

According to the Governor, re-electing another person might lead to the swerve of what the President has done in the last three years.

He said:

"Let him (Buhari) continue and probably stabilise the economy more, and at least, block a few areas of leakages when it comes to corruption in this country.

"Let him block it totally and make sure that we are on a sound footing to now move.

"Somebody else can come but it's not like now.

"So for us, who are supporting him, we believe that in the interest of stability, continuity and for the progress of the nation, we need President Buhari to have another four years and then we can move ahead''.

The Governor spoke also on the implications of the crisis rocking the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) leading to the defections by some National Assembly members and Benue Gov. Samuel Ortom, Akeredolu said there is no cause for alarm.

According to him, the defections were not because the politicians had any problem with Buhari but due to problems related to states.

"President Buhari will win the election, let us leave what is happening here and there; he has captured it very well.

"But if it's the election for the president, President Muhammadu Buhari, by the grace of God, will win. His chances are very bright,'' Akeredolu added.

"Look at the issue of the gale of defection that people are doing, he said most of them are not because of him, which is true.

"We have States in which people have created problems and these problems now cascaded into the national level.

"So, in that circumstance at the end of the day, when elections are held, President Buhari will win.

"I am sure by the grace of God, we will win the election.

"The only thing is that I don't know about Senators, I can't talk about Governors or some of the elections in the states.
