President Buhari Replies Trump, 'I’m Fit, Sprightly, Not Lifeless'

Posted: 27 Aug 2018 12:35 PM PDT

President Buhari and President Trump

President Muhammadu Buhari has replied  the United States President, Donald Trump over alleged claims by the American leader referring to the Nigerian President as "lifeless".

The President  has reacted  through the Buhari Media Organisation BMO  in response to Monday's report by the Financial Times that the American President had made disrespectful comments imputing ill health on President Buhari.

The BMO said:

"President Muhammadu Buhari is fit and capable to run for the 2019 elections and oversee the affairs of the country for four more years President Donald Trump's hate speech notwithstanding", the group said.

The Buhari Media Oorganisa (BMO) via a signed statement by Niyi Akinsiju and Cassidy Maduekwe, its Chairman and Secretary respectively, noted that this was not the first time the US President was heard to make such derogatory remarks at World leaders, and thus President Buhari would not be distracted by such.

"We are aware that President Trump's disrespect for World Leaders is not new; his comments on Canada's Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, calling him 'meek and mild'; his reference to Germany's Leader, Angela Merkel's actions as 'insane', or his outlandish Tweet at the UK's Theresa May, and more recently, the alleged remarks he made after meeting President Buhari.

"It is indeed not the first time President Trump would be heard to lower the standards of respect for his colleagues on the World Stage. We are not surprised, we know that this age-long character of the US President would not change anytime soon. But it is important that we put it on record that President Buhari remains fit and sprightly, even for the next decade", they added.

"We recall that during President Buhari's visit to Trump in the White House, the US President commended the successes that the Buhari administration had recorded especially in the fight against insurgency and the war on corruption. The US President was full of admiration for Nigeria's President during the visit, thus such outlandish remarks as reported by the Financial Times are not just to be taken with a pinch of salt but are untrue in themselves."

The BMO emphatically noted that President Buhari has continued to show fitness and capacity to run the country post-2019. The group went further to highlight that though the President's 800 metre walk, where he acknowledged the cheers of members of his constituency, was not intended at showboating, it was an unscripted reference point that further proves a fit and lively President.

The Organisation therefore stated that President Buhari would not be distracted by this remark, whether it was indeed said or in fact unsaid, but would in his character continue to remain focused on his mandate to deliver on his promises to the Nigerian people.

National Assembly Committee ‘Adopts’ President Buhari/INEC Election Budget

Posted: 27 Aug 2018 11:59 AM PDT

INEC

The Nigeria National Assembly Joint Committee on Electoral Matters on Monday 'adopted' the N143 billion Independent National Electoral Commission budget as presented by President Muhammadu Buhari.

There have been controversies around the budget as the INEC chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, in his presentation to the committee on the 15th of August, demanded N189.2 billion.

In his letter of virement Buhari sent to the National Assembly, N189.2 billion was requested to be released to INEC – N143.5 billion be released this year and N45.6 billion be released in 2019.

However, after over a week of deliberation on the matter, the chairman Committee on Electoral Matters, Senator Suleiman Nazif said that N143 billion will be approved for INEC after an executive session.

The committee, however, did not say when or if the other N45 billion will be approved for INEC.

"The joint committee sat and has come up with the resolution to adopt the N143 billion presented by Mr President," Nazif said.

"It is also the wish of this committee that INEC then presents their budget of N143 billion as requested by Mr President."

Nazif stated further that INEC has an opportunity to reprioritize and re-present the N143bn as requested by the President when it appears before the Committee Tuesday.

"Therefore, INEC has an opportunity to prioritise and this committee is ready to receive them tomorrow. This committee will be reconvening tomorrow by 1 pm so that we can consider the presentation by INEC," he said.

APC Crisis Deepens, Party Chairman Petition Oshiomhole, Others To The Police - 2019 In Focus

The All Progressives Congress, APC, crisis in Kwara State has heightened as the Chairman of the party in the state, Alhaji Ishola Balogun-Fulani has petitioned the State Commissioner of Police, Aminu Saleh over Hon. Bashir Bolarinwa's visit to his office, where he paraded himself as the caretaker chairman of the party.

According a petition via Abdulwahab Bamidele, Fulani's counsel, a copy of which was obtained by DAILY POST on Monday, he said Bolarinwa's visit was misguided and unlawful.

Balogun-Fulani, stressed that he remains the authentic and legally appointed chairman of the party in Kwara State.

In the petition Saleh was referred to an Interim Order of Injunction from the Kwara State High Court restraining Bolarinwa from showing off or parading himself as the caretaker chairman of the APC in the State.

Balogun-Fulani stressed that the Police Commissioner and his office were statutorily duty-bound to obey, respect and enforce the court order while it lasts, and must, therefore, grant no recognising to Bolarinwa as caretaker chairman of the party.

The petitioner explained that Bolarinwa's continued display of himself as caretaker chairman of Kwara APC is a flagrant disobedience of court order, which he said, amounts to contempt of court.

He further alleged that Bolarinwa's visit to Saleh was an attempt to drag the Police Commissioner's office into flouting order of the court, which he described as a wanton disregard to the law of the country.

The Chairman, therefore, urged the Police boss to be guided in his future dealings with Bolarinwa and avoid any attempt to unduly drag his office into supporting, assisting, encouraging and or aiding any form of disrespect or disobedience to lawful order of the court.

Balogun-Fulani stressed that he, Secretary of the party, Prince Christopher Tunji Ayeni and other State officers were properly and legally elected as executive members of the Kwara APC on 19 May, 2018 and were consequently sworn into their respective offices for a period of four years.

He stated further, that they have been performing their functions since the time of their election till date.

Recall that the Kwara State High Court had on 1 August, 2018 ordered Bolarinwa and other members of the caretaker committee to stop parading themselves or perform any function or duty specified for members of the State party's executive committee.

"Our clients have instituted suit No: KWS/292/2018 before the Kwara State High Court of Justice, Ilorin as claimants against Comrade Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole and 5 other persons of which Hon. Bashir Bolarinwa is the 6th Defendant as a challenge to the purported appointment of Hon. Bashir Bolarinwa and other so-called members of the Caretaker Committee of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Kwara State on the ground of the baselessness for the appointment of any Caretaker Committee for All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kwara State after our clients were duly elected."

Trump Reportedly Calls President Buhari ‘Lifeless’ As Nigerians Reacts

Posted: 27 Aug 2018 09:16 AM PDT

President Buhari and President  Buhari

Donald Trump, the United States President, on Monday stirred a serious controversy online after he referred to President Muhammadu Buhari as 'Lifeless'

Trump made the statement shortly after a meeting between the two leaders on April 30, Financial Times reported on Monday.

President Buhari, the first sub-Saharan Africa president to meet Trump since he was sworn in January 2017 as the 45th American president, was in the US for bilateral talks on Trump's invitation.

Buhari and Trum

The US President, will welcome Kenya's Uhuru Kenyatta to the White House on Monday for what will be only the second one-on-one meeting with the US president has held with an African leader since he took office last year.

The Financial Times reports that, the first meeting, with Nigeria's ailing 75-year-old Muhammadu Buhari in April, ended with the US president telling his aides he never wanted to meet someone so lifeless again, according to three people familiar with the matter.

Advocates of closer US-Africa ties hope his encounter with the younger, more urbane Mr. Kenyatta, 56, will breathe fresh life into a relationship with a region that Washington is seen to have neglected as other countries, notably China, develop ever-closer trade and investment ties with the continent.

Looking at the President of France , Emmanuel Macron,  moves , France is also trying to reset its relationship with its former colonies in Africa and deepen commercial ties with bigger economies in the Anglosphere, such as Nigeria and South Africa.

"Trump likes chemistry," said a person in touch both with senior US administration officials and the Kenya delegation preparing for Monday's meeting. "Africa has never been high on his radar but if the big guy likes you he'll find a way to make things work."

However, back home, Trump's statement has stirred divergent opinions online as some agreed with Trump calling for Buhari not to seek re-election in 2019.

READ ALSOWhy I Didn't Discuss 'Shithole' Comment With Trump – President Buhari

The Daily Post went online and put together these comments as reported:

@LordSheriff "Another low for Nigeria, now that even the US has seen how unfit Buhari is to lead Nigeria. The resolve to send him back to Daura has never been strengthened."

@Abangmercy "Trump's alleged remark is something to worry about, we might not like our President's Policies but jubilating that a man that is almost same age as him even if he was younger but to refer to the Nigerian President as "Lifeless" is rather unfortunate – Buhari represents us all."

@7Biafra "Truth is painful to liars, Buhari is lifeless represent the Fulani and the Hausa with the rest of JIHADIST group in Nigeria, Buhari that have kill thousands of my people do not represent me and my whole people of Biafra, Buhari is lifeless as TRUMP state it if that is true."

@Koopreh "Describing Buhari as "Lifeless" is perhaps the most depressing thing you'll read today as a Nigerian. But is Donald Trump right about the state of the man? Many Nigerians agree with the US president! It takes a lifeless leader to run Nigeria aground the way Buhari has."

@SweetMomdee "I think I will be more surprised if Trump praised Buhari."

@Mistereldeexl "I agree with Trump on this one. Nigerians really messed up in 2015 but the sad thing is some of us want to repeat the same mistake in 2019. We deserve better."

@MrStanleyNwabia "If Trump feels this way about Buhari, wait till he meets Buhari supporters (People that are mad)

@JohnGrace "Buhari does not deserve to be President of Nigeria.Trump said he never wants to meet someone lifeless again. Buhari must go 2019, enough of this embarrassment.

@ Tutsy22 "Even 72 -year- old Trump says Buhari is useless."

@OkoroNwadi "Did Trump say that? But the truth must be told, PMB should not be who Nigeria should front as their President."

@Saucekode "First it was 'Shithole' now it is 'Someone so lifeless' Nigeria we need a better upgrade."

Militants Set To Resume Bombings, State Reasons

Posted: 27 Aug 2018 01:29 AM PDT

Niger Delta militants

A coalition of Niger Delta militants has issued fresh threats to resume bombings in the region if the country is not restructured.

Mr John Duku the leader of the Niger Delta Watchdogs, in statement signed in Uyo  at the weekend, noted that the threat became necessary as a result of "anti-democratic actions" by the Federal Government.

The Niger Delta Watchdogs leader said;

"After carefully studying the recent political development in Nigeria in general and the Niger Delta in particular, the Coalition of Niger Delta Agitators hereby wishes to state as follows:

"We hereby condemn the recent freezing of the Akwa Ibom State Government Account by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and we view it as an act of intimidation by the agent of the Federal Government and the APC in order to weaken the smooth running of government in the Niger Delta State.

"We hereby warn the EFCC and other agents of government to desist from this act of official recklessness and breach of the constitution.

"The action of the EFCC and the Federal Government is against the laid-down procedure of investigation stipulated in the EFCC Acts; the EFCC has no right or basis whatsoever to freeze any state government account.

"Doing so against the Akwa Ibom State Government is therefore a calculated attempt to cripple the activities of the state government, label its officials as corrupt and punish the innocent people of Akwa Ibom State.

"From all indications, the attack is not on Governor Udom Emmanuel but on the good people of the state because of the personal hatred the APC-led government has for the people of the state in particular and the Niger Delta as a whole.

"We want to ask, why is it that EFCC singles out opposition states like Akwa Ibom and Benue states for this unjust act? Why are they not seeing the glaring corruption perpetrated by other state governors and other APC states?"

The Niger Delta Watchdogs statement also condemned the threat issued by Miyetti Allah against Dr. Bukola Saraki, the Senate President.

"We hereby condemn the recent anti-Saraki threat by Miyetti Allah leaders and describe it as treasonable.

"We also warn that any further attempt to attack or forcefully remove the Senate President from office shall be met with stiff resistance from the Coalition of Niger Delta Agitators and we promise that all business activities in the Niger Delta shall be completely shut down," the group added.
