The party stated that, "each presidential aspirant will pay N5m for expression of interest form and N40m for the nomination form."

'Why APC May Lose The Presidency' – Sagay

Posted: 05 Sep 2018 05:08 PM PDT

Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN)

Read as published by the Daily Post:

The Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), has advised the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to yield to the demands of state governors of the party to conduct indirect primaries in their states ahead of the 2019 polls.

According to Sagay, the APC may lose power in 2019 if the Comrade Adams Oshiomhole's rift with the governors from the party are not resolved.

The governors, who are in favour of voting by delegates, are reportedly spoiling for war with the national leadership of the party through their various state chairmen.

The governors want states to exercise their right to conduct indirect primaries in picking the party's candidates for the 2019 general elections against the position of the party leadership as stated by the party's Acting Publicity Secretary, Yekini Nabena.

The party's leadership has directed that all candidates be picked through direct primaries.

In an interview with Daily Independent newspaper, Sagay, who is currently in the United States, said the party could not afford to go to war with the state governors who are critical stakeholders in the party, with just few weeks to the general elections.

Sagay said the APC leadership could not afford to lose the election to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and advised the APC National Working Committee (NWC) to listen to the governors' demands by accepting indirect primaries in the selection of candidates.

"I will urge the party to think of the consequences. In this case, I will advise the party to acquiesce to their demands for indirect primaries rather than direct primaries.

"We need to be pragmatic on this issue and, also, they have to think of the future. If they do anything now and go against the government or the party, it will not bode well at all. So, we have to be pragmatic about these things.

"If there is such a threat and they are likely to carry it out, I will advise the party to accept indirect primaries rather than direct primaries.

"The election is around the corner. If they don't listen to the governors' demands, the consequences are that the party may lose power.

"If we stick to principles and you lose power, you are out of power and all the indiscipline and mis-governance we experienced under the PDP will come and haunt us. So, I believe the party should concede to them," Sagay said.

JUST IN: Superintendent Of Police Dies On Top Of Woman In His Office

Posted: 05 Sep 2018 04:42 PM PDT

Sunday Eguakhide

A Nigerian police officer has died while having affairs with his lover in his office in Ikeja, Lagos.

The 56-year-old Superintendent of Police, Sunday Eguakhide, died on August 24 at about 11:30 am in his office at the Police College, Ikeja. He was with his second wife, who he married unofficially, in his office when he died while sleeping with her.

Eguakhide's death occurred less than a week before his retirement. His remains were later evacuated and deposited at the Ikeja General Hospital mortuary.

The deceased was said to be fond of taking enhancement drugs whenever he wanted to make love with the woman known as his unofficial second wife. The woman was arrested by policemen from Ikeja division and has been in detention since then.

But the woman reportedly denied knowledge of the cause of Eguakhide's death.

She was quoted as saying:

He used to sleep with me in his office. He had already gone one round, but as usual, he was not satisfied. In fact, I told him that the drug he used to take anytime we wanted to have affairs was not good for my body. I didn't like it because I was the one that used to bear the brunt of it.

After taking the drug he would be pounding into me for a very long time and because of the drug, he usually takes long to come.

On that fateful day, after he went first round, he refused to allow me to dress. He started playing with me until his manhood became erected again. He then started making love to me again.

She said that at some point during the act, the man began acting funny, rolled off her, then fell to the floor jerking. He was foaming at the mouth and his tongue was out. In panic, she kept screaming out his name but when he didn't respond, she ran out of the office nearly naked to call for help. By the time help came, he was dead already.

But one of the deceased's colleagues denied the allegation that Eguakhide died as a result of enhancement drug, saying:

I worked closely with him at the Transport Department that was when I noticed that he was suffering from blood pressure, while the woman at the centre of the crisis is his second wife. But he married her out of wedlock. Whenever she wanted to see the husband she always comes to the office.

To the best of my knowledge, I don't know if they were sleeping with each other in the office, but what I knew was that the woman usually comes to meet him in his office to collect money for the upkeep of her children.

He was a generous person. Our superior always warns every officer at the police college to take good care of our health. It was the junior officer who rushed him to the hospital but he died before they got to the Ikeja General Hospital. I am going to miss him because he did not hold grudge with anybody.

IGP Ibrahim Idris

The Police authorities, on Wednesday, released names of the officers who carried out the raid at the Abuja residence of Chief Edwin Clark, elder statesman and the leader of Pan-Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF.

It could be recalled that on Tuesday, it was reported some police officers had invaded Chief Clark's residence Abuja to allegedly "search for weapons and and incriminating items."

The search according to media reports did not yield any result as nothing incriminating was found.

However, in a swift response to the issue, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, the Inspector General of Police, denied ordering his men for the operation.

The Force spokesperson, Jimoh Moshood on his part, said the police was misled by a bogus informant, that, there were incriminating items at Clark's home.

Moshood said the officers who carried out the unauthorised search are likely to be punished for their action, while the informant would be arraigned in court shortly.

The PRO said, "Three police inspectors are currently facing orderly room trial, while an assistant superintendent has been queried."

According to the PRO, the names of those involved in the illegal raid include; David Dominic (an Assistant Superintendent of Police who presumably led the team); Godwin Musa, Sada Abubakar and Yabo Paul (all Inspectors).

6 APC Governors, 27 National Assembly Members Set To Defect To PDP

Posted: 05 Sep 2018 02:06 PM PDT

Kola Ologbondiyan

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has confirmed that it is concluding discussions with more state governors and members of the National Assembly elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of their defection to the opposition PDP.

Kola Ologbondiyan, the National Publicity Secretary of  PDP, in a statement made available on Wednesday to PoliticsNGR, the party said it has already concluded discussions with six APC governors and 27 APC members in the National Assembly, who have also drawn their consultations and secured the mandates of their constituents to move to the PDP ahead of the 2019 general election.

"The PDP verifies that discussions on control of party structures in the affected states and senatorial zones have also reached advanced stage and would be completed in a couple of weeks after which the governors and lawmakers will announce their defection to the PDP.

"However, in line with decisions reached at the discussions, the members of the National Assembly decamping to the PDP will cross-carpet at the reconvening of session in the two chambers, which will increase the PDP majority in both chambers.

"The party assures that all grey areas of the agreement, including issues of waivers and accommodation for participation in primaries, are being smoothened out by the Governot Liyel Imoke-led PDP Contact and Integration Committee, which has been galvanizing our alliances among stakeholders across other parties, including those from the APC.

"The PDP also commends the spirit of tolerance, dialogue, accommodation and oneness of purpose that pervade the alliance among members.

"The party expressed its readiness to take back control of power at the center, as well as in our traditional states of Plateau, Niger, Adamawa, Kano, Bauchi, Nasarawa, Kebbi, Kaduna, Katsina, Kogi, Jigawa, Zamfara, Imo, Edo as well as southwest states of Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Ondo, Lagos states.

"The PDP therefore charges all members and supporters to remain steadfast and wary of the gimmicks of the deflated APC, which has resorted to sponsoring spurious publications filled with deceptions, fabrications and lies against our party.

"The PDP also commends Nigerians across board for their overwhelming support and solidarity with the repositioned PDP as expressed in the unprecedented interest in our tickets for various elective positions, particularly the presidency, governorship and National Assembly positions, in addition to spirited public discourse at all levels of political engagements across our country.

"These interests and movements from the APC to the PDP are indicators of the consensus by Nigerians to rally on the platform of the PDP to end the economic hardship, bloodletting, violence and infrastructural decay that have become the hallmark of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC administration, and return our nation to the path of unity, national cohesion and economic prosperity, which the PDP is known for."

Attah Slam Saraki, Predicts What’ll Happen To Him, Others In PDP

Posted: 05 Sep 2018 08:23 AM PDT

Obong Victor Attah

Obong Victor Attah, the former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, has said that Dr. Bukola Saraki, the Senate President, and others who defected from the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, did so for their individualistic interests.

According to Attah, Saraki's reasons for defecting from the APC makes no sense and showed his level of 'selfishness.'

The former Governor, while speaking with the Sun,  also noted that political parties in Nigeria lack ideologies and are mere platforms.

Obong Attah, predicted that the defectors will face a bleak and very cold political winter.

He added;

"All these defections, which some people think is in defence of democracy, is actually not.

"I have looked at the reasons why these things are happening. For instance, you look at the statement made by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, on why he defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

"He is quoted to have said, and he has not denied it that 'the Federal Government appointed over 200 persons into juicy offices without allotting any to me or Dogara; everything went to Katsina and Lagos.

"'If not for the love I had for Nigeria, we would have scattered everything.' Tell me where the moral is in this? Tell me where the protection of the nation and her citizens are in that?

"I don't see it. These are all individualistic and selfish reasons; he is saying, 'I am going because I didn't get what I wanted, so I am going somewhere I believe I can get what I want.'

"But let me tell you something, some of these defectors, whether they believe it or not, are going to face a bleak and very cold political winter. That is my prediction and I don't think I will be wrong.

"The political parties, if they ever had any ideology or philosophy has lost them, they are just platforms, that is why people are just jumping from one party to the other without thinking of where they are going and a country without a sense of direction, purpose, morality or focus is just going to go to the dogs, and we must not allow that to happen."

Presidential Aspirant Of APC Drags Party, AGF, INEC To Court Over High Cost Of Nomination Form

Posted: 05 Sep 2018 08:24 AM PDT

Christmas Akpodiete

Mr. Christmas Akpodiete, a Presidential aspirant, of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has taken his party before an Abuja Federal High Court over the high cost of its nomination forms.

The aspirant joined in the suit, the Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, Abubakar Malami, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

In the suit marked No. FHC/ABJ/CS/951/2018, the presidential aspirant urged the court to restrain the APC from going ahead with its scheduled primary elections due to its high cost of forms.

According to Christmas, he noted that should they go ahead with the scheduled primaries, the court should declare such primaries null and void.

Akpodiete also prayed the court to restrain INEC from recognizing such primaries, pending the determination of the substantial suit.

According to the Daily Post report, the Presidential aspirant stressed that the nomination fees charged by political parties are not only 'ridiculous and unaffordable', but unconstitutional.

Christmas said,

"The nomination fees are repugnant to the rules of natural justice, equity and good conscience.

"It's an attempt by the Nigeria political oligarchs to make nonsense of the just passed (NOT TOO YOUNG TO RUN LAW), and it is a calculated move to deprive the Nigerian people their constitutionally guaranteed right to run for public office in their own country."

He also urged the court to give a judicial breath to this matter by pegging the nomination fees for all elective positions at "N18,000,00. (Eighteen thousand naira only), because that is the nation national minimum wage of the country."

Akpodiete noted that if the nomination fee was beyond the amount the ordinary Nigerian worker earns, N18,000 monthly, they would be "deprived the capacity to achieve their constitutionally guaranteed right, which includes the right to run for public office."

F.B Ehikioya, counsel to the aspirant, while speaking on the suit, said, "The action is based on a breach of the fundamental human right of all aspirants and any attempt to keep the Nigerian people down shall be collectively rejected".

The court registry is yet to assign the matter to a judge.
