Nigeria At 58: Bishop Oyedepo Reveals Nigerian Politicians That Will Die Before 2019 Election

Posted: 01 Oct 2018 07:11 PM PDT

Bishop David Oyedepo

"Those in leadership should not allow God to kick them into the forest and if they do not key into this warning of today so many of them will not live to see 2019".

Bishop David Oyedepo, the Presiding Bishop and Founder of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, aka (Winners' Chapel), has warned leaders in government against being insensitive to the feelings and sufferings of Nigerian masses.

The Bishop said this during a special prayer session for the nation at 58.

Oyedepo, while urging Leaders to repent and have value for the lives of citizens, said if they do not repent after this warning, they would fall down for the sake of the nation.

He said, "Those in leadership should not allow God to kick them into the forest and if they do not key into this warning of today so many of them will not live to see 2019.

"No agent of the devil will cause problems for this nation any more," he said.

He, however, stated that Nigeria was set for a turnaround as the hidden treasures of any nation dwell in the hands of the believers.

"God has a plan for a dramatic turn around for Nigeria. The hidden treasure of any nation is in the hands of the believers.

"Nigeria shall be healed and the wounds have been cured because Nigeria is not a private business of anybody but a God's own nation," NAN quoted him as saying.

God Punishing Ambode, Wife For Sacking & Evicting Lagos Chaplain - Lagos APC Primary

Posted: 01 Oct 2018 06:40 PM PDT

Ambode

"Mrs Ambode is a Pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God, let her go and ask the RCCG Pastor, Enoch Adeboye, whether what she did was the right thing to do to a minister of God," Rt. Rev. Adeyemi fumed.

A senior Pastor of the Awaiting The Second Coming Of Jesus Christ in Akure, Ondo State, Pastor Adewale Giwa has stated that the political travails of Lagos State Governor, Akinwumi Ambode was caused by the sack of Presiding Chaplain of the Chapel of Christ the Light, Alausa, Venerable Femi Taiwo.

The cleric advised him and his wife Bolanale, to beg God for forgiveness over the matter.

Venerable Taiwo had angered the governor's wife, Bolanle Ambode, who visited the chapel on Sunday, May 14, when the church held an anointing service.

Mrs. Ambode had reportedly claimed that she was not given any preference during the service, and this development infuriated her.

She was reported to be visibly angry and allegedly shunned entreaties from the women, which included the wife of the presiding chaplain.

The cleric got the sack the following day, a situation that led to outrage and attracted condemnation from the Christian community.

In reaction, Rt. Rev. Adeyemi, head the African Church, Ifako Diocese, who supervises Venerable Femi Taiwo, condemned the sack and eviction in strong terms.

The cleric compared Bolanle Ambode, to Abimbola Fashola, the heartthrob of ex-Governor and current Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola.

Similarly, Rt. Rev. Adeyemi, head, the African Church, Ifako Diocese, told Bolanle Ambode to seek counsel from RCCG leader, Enoch Adeboye, over the incidence.

"Mrs Ambode is a Pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God, let her go and ask the RCCG Pastor, Enoch Adeboye, whether what she did was the right thing to do to a minister of God," Rt. Rev. Adeyemi fumed.

However, Pastor Giwa in a statement sent to DAILY POST, said, "God cannot let a sinner go unpunished. I will advise Governor Ambode and his wife to seek God for forgiveness.

"Their action to remove the person called a Man of God from office is uncalled for.

"From my findings, I was told that despite pleadings from church leaders and other reputable elders, Governor Ambode insisted the cleric must leave the church.

"Can you imagine that some church members reportedly contributed money to buy gas cooker and other household items for the family as they vacated the vicarage?

"Do power and recognition take you to heaven? This is what is happening virtually all over the churches today.

"The moment they see powerful persons in their midst, they quickly give honour to them. In the case of Venerable Taiwo, he did not do that and got sacked."

See Reasons, Senator Ben Bruce Withdrew From Senatorial Race (Full Statement)

Posted: 01 Oct 2018 06:11 PM PDT

Senator Ben Murray-Bruce

Senator Ben Murray Bruce, the Senator representing Bayelsa East constituency, on Monday withdrew from the senatorial race.

The Senator revealed this in a letter posted on his Facebook page.

Read his full statement:

Letter of withdrawal from the Bayelsa East Senatorial Race

I thank God and the good people of Brass, Bayelsa East Senatorial District who offered me the golden opportunity four years ago to represent them and the state in the Senate, Nigeria's highest lawmaking chamber.

It is without doubt that I have tried to discharge my duties as a legislator and representative of my people creditably to the best of my ability so far.

My voice has been very loud on the issues that matters to our people and our country at all time.

My support to our party, my people and state government is unquestionable. I am humbled that the national leadership of my party supported by the State chapter in appreciation of my efforts offered to support my re-election to the senate to continue my service.

I have also intensified consultations in the last couple of week in the course of which I have come to realize an existing local rotational arrangement of over 20 years beginning with the late Great Chief Melford Okilo, by which arrangement the Senatorial seat rotates per local government area among the three councils for four years in the Senatorial District.

Even with the support of my party at the National and state levels with the full backing of my state government and leadership, as a man of honour interested in the well being of my people, I hereby announce my withdrawal from the Senatorial race.

I do not want whatever reason to appear to have used my privileged position and influence to do anything that other than the well-being and the stability and the good of the people. I am in all of these for the people, not for myself.

Once again, I thank the former President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, the National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, my colleagues in the Senate and Governor of Bayelsa State, the Honourable Henry Seriake Dickson for their support and encouragement.

I also thank the leadership of my Senatorial District and state, for being there for me.

I thank specially the people of my constituency for their trust and confidence in me to serve and represent them in the Senate.

By trusting me with this mandate, I have come to know them and our people even better, an experience I will never forget for the rest of my life.

I am indeed grateful to my darling wife, my children, other members of my family for their support and prayers. I appreciate the efforts of my hardworking campaign staff for their support and dedication.

Again, I thank the leadership of the party for their continuing support. I also assured the party of my availability and readiness to serve at any capacity when the opportunity comes. Best Regards,

Senator Ben Murray Bruce.

PundiX Moves Into Nigeria, With First Bitcoin-Fiat Transaction In Africa On Its Platform

Posted: 01 Oct 2018 05:38 PM PDT

In one small step toward wider adoption of cryptocurrencies, a small business in Nigeria claims to be the first in all of Africa to trade bitcoin for Nigeria's national currency, the Naira, using PundiX's (NPXS) in-house hardware Point of Sale terminal (XPOS).

PundiX released a short video of the event on their social media platforms. The firm completing the transaction is listed on one commercial website as an "Agriculture Importer", and the transaction was accomplished using both PundiX's crypto-debit card, the Pundi XPASS, and the XPOS together.

PundiX's line of products are designed to facilitate and streamline the purchase of goods and services using cryptocurrencies, in physical shops and points of sale. The crypto-company is based in Singapore and has more than 150 employees as of August, 2018, according to their website.

Africa is Ripe for Crypto Adoption

Michael Lawal, Business Development Manager at PundiX and featured in the short video, laid out his case for cryptocurrencies -- and PundiX -- in Africa in a Medium article. He points to high inflation rates in African countries, high volumes of remittances coming into the continent from abroad, and Africa's already-completed "mobile payments revolution" (probably having in mind services like M-Pesa, the very successful Vodafone-owned micropayment mobile-phone platform) as arguments for cryptocurrency adoption in Africa in particular.

The status of acceptability of cryptocurrencies and crypto-assets in Nigeria has been uncertain. CryptoGlobe reported earlier this year that the Central Bank of Nigeria warned the country's banks from using or transacting with any cryptocurrencies, although there seems to be no explicit illegality in doing so.

In Africa more broadly, BitPesa, a Kenya-based digital asset exchange and payment service, recently partnered with prominent Japanese financial services company SBI Group to facilitate payments between Japanese and African entities. The partnership hopes to leverage the speed and independence of cryptocurrencies as a medium of exchange between Japanese yen and various African nations' currencies, instead of more regulated and restrictive global reserve currencies like dollars or euros.

PundiX will attend the Blockchains for Sustainable Development conference, hosted by the UN Conference on Trade and Development, later this month. Some heavy hitters in the crypto industry will be in attendance, such as Binance's Changpeng Zhao ("CZ"), as well as representatives from IBM, UNICEF, and the European Parliament among others.

Ambode supporters protest at Tinubu's house

....Ambode's supporters besiege Tinubu's house in Ikoyi, bearing different placards.

Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, supporters, thronged the residence of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Jagaban Bola Tinubu, at Bourdillon Street, Ikoyi, Lagos.

The protesters who were, bearing different placards with Ambode's picture, marched to the front gate of Tinubu's entrance on Monday.

However, they were prevented from gaining access into the premises, by armed security men.

As such,  the protesters remained at the opposite side of the road with their placards hoisted high, while they danced to songs from their band, Sahara Reporters, reports.

Recall that Ambode has been in a running battle with the leadership of Lagos State APC for the party's governorship ticket.

The APC National leader, Jagaban Tinubu has, however, not been economical with words, in his preference for Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Ambode's main contender, for the governorship ticket.

Tinubu, Ambode Summoned By President Buhari Over APC Primary, Sanwo-Olu

Posted: 01 Oct 2018 03:48 PM PDT

Jagaban Tinubu and Gov. Ambode

The National leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Jagaban Bola Tinubu and Lagos state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode has been summoned to Abuja by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The meeting was held this afternoon at the presidential villa, DAILY POST reports.

A source close to the presidency told DAILY POST that Buhari is worried over the strained relationship between the duo.

Meanwhile, Tinubu and other APC leaders in the state have already endorsed a former commissioner, Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the party's governorship ticket.

On Sunday, Ambode, apparently infuriated by the development, opened a can of warns against Sanwo-Olu.

He said: "The aspirant being put up to compete against us is not a fit and proper person to take this job. I have done everything in the last three and half years to serve people selflessly and to serve the poor.

"This particular aspirant is somebody that has been arrested for spending fake dollars in a nightclub in America, and he has been detained for months.

"He doesn't have the competence to do what he is being propelled to do. This is somebody that has gone for rehabilitation before. The records are there at the Gbagada General Hospital, we don't want to go too far. Our leadership should have a rethink".

Meanwhile, the APC primary election in the state has again been shifted to Tuesday.

Buhari Talk Tough On Misuse Of Social Media, Warns Nigerians

Posted: 01 Oct 2018 07:10 AM PDT

President Muhammadu Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has warned Nigerians against the dangers, the misuse of social media, pose to the country.

The Commander in Chief, in his national broadcast to mark Nigeria's 58th Independence Anniversary in Abuja on Monday,
frowned at the way and manner the social media was being misused to provoke passions and stir tensions.

Buhari described it as an abuse of the new technologies, warning all well-meaning citizens to learn how to use modern technologies for the general good of the nation.

He said: "Now we have in our hands technology that is a powerful tool that we can and should use for knowledge and understanding.

"As with other countries, we must also learn how to manage those tendencies that, instead, look to abuse new technologies to provoke passions and stir tensions.

"Never before have we faced such a challenge. We must all rise to the responsibility of shutting out those disruptive and corrosive forces that hide in today's world of social media. We need critical minds and independent thinking, to question and question until we are satisfied we have the facts.

"Otherwise, all the progress we have made as a democracy since 1999 is at stake."

President Buhari’s 58th Independence Day Anniversary Speech To Nigerians(Full Text & Video)

Posted: 01 Oct 2018 06:00 AM PDT

President Muhammadu Buhari's 58th Independence Day Speech

Today October 1st is Nigeria's Independence Day Anniversary, and as usual the President addresses the people of Nigeria.
Read below the full transcript of President Muhammadu Buhari's 58th Independence Day Speech.

Fellow Nigerians,

1. Today is a day of celebration and solemn reflection. It is the anniversary of the day Nigerians realised one of the most cherished of human desires – the desire for freedom. We, therefore, give thanks to and remember our founding fathers who laboured so hard and sacrificed so much to build and bequeath to us this wonderful nation. It is our duty to consolidate this great legacy.

2. On this first October date and on the eve of the start of the general election cycle, we should do well to reflect on what binds us together and the great strength our diversity bestows on us. Ours is an ambitious nation, and, as citizens we have every right to look forward to the future with confidence and optimism which are well founded, considering where we find ourselves today.

3. There has been a steady improvement in the security situation in the North East. We remain committed to ending the crisis and make the North East safe for all.

4. Our thoughts and prayers are always with the victims of the Boko Haram's atrocities and their families. Beyond that, we know that the goals of the Boko Haram terrorists include capturing territories, destroying our democracy and denying our children the right to education. We will not allow them to succeed.

5. I want at this point to pay tribute to the men and women of our armed forces, the Police and other security and law enforcement agencies, who have been working under the most difficult conditions to keep the country safe. In the process, many have made the supreme sacrifice.

6. As their Commander -In- Chief, I assure these our gallant men and women that I will continue to empower them by deepening their professionalism and providing all the necessary force multipliers and enablers required for them to prevail on the field. I am looking into all reported cases of inadequacies in relation to their entitlements, their welfare and those of their families.

7. We are diversifying away from reliance on oil to increased manufacturing capacity, solid minerals development, and agriculture.
8. Efforts are on course in the Niger Delta to clean up polluted lands, restore hopes of the youths in the region and re-establish livelihoods, and strengthen their capacity to guarantee for themselves and for our country a brighter future

9. The age-long conflict between herders and farmers that was being exploited by those seeking to plant the seeds of discord and disunity amongst our people, is being addressed decisively. We will sustain and continue to support the commendable efforts by all including civil society organisations, local and states governments and our traditional and religious leaders in finding durable solution to this problem.

10. This being a transhumance issue, we are working with countries in our region that are also facing similar difficulties to complement our common efforts. In this context I must warn that the perpetrators of murder and general mayhem in the name of defending or protecting herders or farmers will face the full wrath of the law. Meanwhile, we urge all peace loving Nigerians to reject any simplistic portrayal, at home or abroad, of this conflict as either religious or ethnic based.

11. We are one of the countries in the world most affected by environmental degradation, as a consequence of climate change. We are signatories to almost all conventions and agreements aimed at slowing down the effect of climate change and mitigating its now evident consequences.

12. The consequences on lives and livelihoods of the shrinking of the Lake Chad and the pollution caused by oil exploitation activities alone make it mandatory on us to be at the forefront of the struggle for a safer and more sustainable environment. We will continue to mobilise international support for our efforts in this regard.

13. We are making progress in the fight against corruption and recovery of stolen public funds and assets despite vicious and stiff resistance. The shameful past practice, of the brazen theft of billions of Naira is no more. Shady oil deals and public contracts that were never delivered have become things of the past.

14. Consequently, and this is very evident across the country, we have done more with less in infrastructural developments. Roads, railways, major bridges, schools, energy and power, air and sea ports, welfare of serving and retired personnel both civilian and military including payment of legacy debt such as pension arrears, have been attended to.

15. There is now an enabling environment for local and foreign investment in Nigeria. We are building a rules-based system – a level playing field that is free from fixers and intermediaries. This is the cornerstone to help genuine investors and honest consumers, and the platform that will allow for the real reforms that we intend to deliver over the coming years.

16. We are gradually strengthening the economy with a stable Naira and falling inflation rate. We are building an economy that is moving away from over reliance on oil. Consequently we have witnessed massive return to farms and seen bumper harvest, despite recurrent floods across the country.

17. These positive developments are the result of our collective pursuit of a common vision through hard work and dedication, after the missed opportunities and disappointments that followed the return to democracy in 1999.

18. At the forefront, have always been our youths. They have been at the vanguard of the struggle for independence. They fought in the war to keep the country united. And it was they who kept alive the struggle for democracy and human rights in our country at times when these were at risk, especially following the June 12 1993 election and the historic 2015 election process.

19. Even today, our youths play a central role in Nigeria's continuing progress and developments in all fields of our national endeavour –technology, agriculture, mining, engineering and especially the creative arts. Together we are building a more diverse, inclusive and self-reliant economy.

20. In the past three years we have introduced many policies and programmes targeted at youth development and youth empowerment. We support the 'not too young to run' legislation aimed at giving the youths greater say in our national politics and governance.

21. The school feeding program in primary schools is aimed at encouraging enrolment and attendance. We are building on what we have already introduced to support schools and universities to which funds have recently been released for upgrade of facilities, training programs for our entrepreneurs, and rehabilitation schemes for victims of terrorism and human trafficking.

Fellow Nigerians,

22. Now we have in our hands technology that is a powerful tool that we can and should use for knowledge and understanding. As with other countries, we must also learn how to manage those tendencies that, instead, look to abuse new technologies to provoke passions and stir tensions.

23. Never before have we faced such a challenge. We must all rise to the responsibility of shutting out those disruptive and corrosive forces that hide in today's world of social media. We need critical minds and independent thinking, to question and question until we are satisfied we have the facts. Otherwise, all the progress we have made as a democracy since 1999 is at stake.

24. I have committed myself many times to ensure that elections are fully participatory, free and fair and that the Independent National Electoral Commission will be exactly INDEPENDENT and properly staffed and resourced. The ballot box is how we make our choice for the governments that rule in our name.

Fellow Nigerians,

25. Developing a thriving democracy is not an easy task. There can be no quick fixes or short cuts. These are the most important lessons that we have learnt in our 58 years as an independent nation.

26. At the international level, we remain a responsible and respected member of the international community, playing active positive roles within ECOWAS, the African Union and the United Nations as well as all other regional and international organisations and institutions of which we are members.

27. We will continue to support initiatives aimed at addressing the challenges of our times: global and regional crises and conflicts, terrorism, trans-border crime, climate change, human rights, gender equality, development, poverty and inequality within and between nations, etc. In this context, we are working hard to achieve both the AU 2063 Agenda for socio-economic transformation of our continent; and the UN 2030 Agenda for sustainable development, which together aim at addressing these challenges

Fellow Nigerians,
28. As we celebrate the 58 Anniversary of our independence, we know we are on the right path. Although we have our differences, they count for far less than the values, virtues and common aspirations that unite us as a nation. We have so much for which we should be grateful, and in which we should rightly take pride. Our journey is not finished but we have come a long way.

29. I want to assure you that as President, I will continue to work tirelessly to promote, protect and preserve what really matters: a united, peaceful, prosperous and secure Nigeria, where all, irrespective of background, can aspire to succeed.

Thank you. I wish you a memorable independence celebration.
