A timeline of the feud between Runtown and Eric Many
Runtown got signed unto the label, Eric Many in 2014 after the success of his single, 'Gallardo', he was to release his debut album, ''Ghetto University'', the following year, which had some major singles like 'Lagos to Kampala' featuring Wizkid making Runtown a household name.

However, in 2016, things began to get ugly between the two parties as there emerged accusations of threat to life, with Runtown declaring his intention to terminate his contract, leading to a lawsuit by the label.

This was soon settled outside the courts with Runtown signing a new deal that has now expired on June 22, 2018. Eric Many on July 5, brought a fresh injunction against the singer on the grounds of contempt of existing court orders, following the release of Runtown's new single, Unleash.

Waje talks about how she went through depression

Posted: 29 Jan 2019 09:30 PM PST

Waje
Waje back in 2018, revealed how she went through depression a few years ago and was able to overcome it. The talented singer made this known during an exclusive interview with PULSE. According to her sometimes people confuse anger for depression.

"The thing is, many times when people talk about depression, I always come from the angle where there is a difference between depression and anger. A depressed person does not even know that they are depressed, they will give every reason to think that they are not in that place. When you are depressed, you don't want to eat, you don't want to go out, your life stops literally.

"I have come to realise that being someone in the limelight, you have to guard your territory, I have been in that space where... I wouldn't say mine was depression, mine was anger management, it was a kind of depression but the only way I could express myself was through anger.

"I remember that time, that was the year we got signed as Glo ambassadors so actually my career was doing really good. I just released my album, I was nominated in four categories in World Music Awards every year, money dey come. But I had anger issues, why because I just didn't see myself the way I wanted to see myself. I saw myself through everybody's eye. I would look at you and whatever you tell me about me is what I would accept.

Then we got to talk about how she was able to realise there was an issue and how she decided to work on it. Changing her friends and getting closer to God.

What exactly is wrong with mirroring Fela in your music?

Posted: 29 Jan 2019 09:00 PM PST

Fela
Exactly 14 days ago, Nigerian rapper, Falz dropped his polarizing, thought-provoking and controversial, yet critically acclaimed fifth full-length body of work, Moral Instruction. The reaction, across social media in this social media era was two-faced; a majority felt Moral Instruction was the best thing since yam and egg on Saturday mornings in Nigerian middle class homes.

Some were simply unimpressed; they felt Falz had borrowed too much from Fela's artistry and "hypocrisy" that they felt he had lost originality. A small percentage of this class also placed the onus of solutions provision on Falz, despite the project simply being a music album and not a master's thesis.

While for me, the criticisms from these supposed 'music heads' seemed confused comments, stemming from a need to pointlessly stand out from the crowd that celebrated this masterful art, it was also instructive that these critics hounded M.I. Abaga's album, "Yxng Dxnzl: A Study on Self-Worth," for having what they now criticize "Moral Instruction" for – they seem confused and on an aimless crusade to be seen an harsh arbiters of excellence.

The problem, however, didn't stop there. It continued when these supposed critics offered what seemed like a monopoly on how the legacy of Fela Anikulapo-Kuti could or could not go. Asides the fact that their criticism on how Falz channeled Fela did not really have a creative direction, they seemed to channel some innate hate for Falz into whatever called a review of his music or his artistry.

All day long, these same critics cry for music with substance. Now they have music with substance. Yet, all they want to do is pan and hound whatever should be critically acclaimed, not just by the dire standards of Nigerian music, but for whatever good music is meant to represent by contemporary standards. At this time, the accusations on Falz's supposed misogyny are simply misguided.

What exactly do these critics want? What exactly is bad about mirroring Fela in these contemporary times?

Great artists leave blueprints on the sands of time for others to follow. Whatever your woke reservations are towards Fela, you will only deny his greatness at your own peril. Fela is Nigeria's greatest ever music maker by any or a cumulative of whatever metrics you want to go by.

Fela is not just a music maker either, the other is the very explicit Yoruba speaking musician-activist, Ologundudu, but Fela is the most potent socio-political colossus in Nigerian music history.

Whatever reservations you have towards Fela that makes you call him 'hypocrite,' or 'self-righteous,' because of imperfections in his personal life, despite being a strong political critic doesn't negate or water down those political critiques are pointless.

I'm sure some of these music critics were against Nigerian politicians who tried to use Tuface's personal life issues to discredit him in the face of that planned protest a few years ago. Is that not hypocrisy?

Why then could you make exceptions there and not keep the same energy for Fela. Asides these complexities, on a scale of importance, whatever personal life battles Fela created or confronted in his personal life, they are very minute in the face of socio-political issues he confronted and gained global support for.

How then can you without proof just paste Falz with the 'pretentious' poster of lazy journalism? You can do better.

Asides that, with the knowledge of Fela, and his legacy, whichever artist threads the socio-political commentary path will definitely be linked to Fela. We live in a world where people pointlessly called Wizkid 'the new Fela' because his single, Ojuelegba became a subject of global attention.

Or are these critics simply saying that people should not make music about socio-political issues to avoid being linked to Fela? Like it or not, the problems and people Fela sang about still confront us today and yet, we sleep and allow ourselves to be muted.

We have internalized these problems and do not realize Nigeria continues to battle the same cancer since independence and worse, since the madness of FESTAC '77.

"Moral Instruction" exemplifies how to sample Fela. People have made music like Michael Jackson; Prince; and other musicians through history. Does that means they want to be like James Brown?

James Brown is the most sampled soul singer in the history of Hip-Hop. Does that mean rappers want to make soul music? Yes, Falz might have conceived "Moral Instruction" with Fela in mind, but is there really a problem with keeping the legacy of Nigeria's greatest artist ever alive especially when we still battle the same problems and people he sang about?

Music critics have a responsibility to report the music as it is. Wanting the avant-garde privilege of standing alone or using personal issues for vendetta against the music for cheap mudslinging should be out of the question.

At this time, it seems the bulk of criticism against "Moral Instruction" is misguided and without thought, like most criticism related to Fela – which is a topic for another day. There is pattern - it seems woke music critics just want to pan anything related to Fela.

For now, we need to do better than we currently are. Asides that, we need to walk better lines and deliver better work.

The National Judicial Council, NJC, has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnonghe, the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Tanko Muhammad.

This was disclosed after an emergency meeting in Abuja.

Ibrahim Muhammad is to respond to a petition against him over an alleged breach of NJC rules.

The council, therefore, said it would reconvene on February 11, 2019 to discuss further actions against the judicial officers.

Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari had on Friday last week suspended Justice Onnoghen as CJN following an order by the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).

2019 Presidency: US Reveals What Will Happen If Nigeria Fails To Get Election Right

Posted: 29 Jan 2019 04:34 PM PST

Mr. Stuart Symington

Mr. Stuart Symington, the United States Ambassador to Nigeria,  has said that Nigeria should get the 2019 elections right.

He said failure to do so, the country would be disappointing those that looked up to it after the feat recorded in 2015.

The envoy stated this when he paid a visit to the Police Command in Kaduna.

"The State of Kaduna is an important place during this election. I am here to underscore a couple of key ideas," he stated.

"The first being that these elections are really about Nigerians, decided by Nigerians under it's laws which will define the future of Nigeria.

"The election is also for others who have looked up to Nigeria's example of democracy in the past especially if it would be as good as that of the elections of 2015," he said.

According to him, it was important for Nigerians to decide on the election's credibility like they did in 2015, "so that it's credit will be invested in democracy and freedom throughout West Africa and across the entire World, Daily Post reports.

"These kind of negative speeches can have negative impacts in the future.

"There are other people who have pointed fingers at those who are saying the elections would come out wrong, saying the elections can be right if every citizen of Nigeria act on the understanding that they are individually responsible for anything they get from the polls."

The U.S ambassador added that people must take responsibility for their actions, "first before God, second under the laws of the country, in the eyes of countrymen and lastly in the eyes of the world."

2019 Elections: President Buhari, Oshiomhole Disagree Over Okorocha’s Candidate In Imo State

Posted: 29 Jan 2019 04:17 PM PST

President Muhammadu Buhari and Comrade Adams Oshiomhole
President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, urged members of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), to vote for any candidate of their choice, irrespective of intra or inter party affairs.

Buhari spoke amid the lingering crisis rocking the Imo State chapter of the ruling party, over the emergence of its governorship candidate.

It will be recalled that Governor Rochas Okorocha is supporting his former Chief of Staff, Uche Nwosu, while the National Chairman of the party Adams Oshiomhole backs Senator Hope Uzodinma, who emerged the APC candidate under controversial circumstances, Daily Post reports.

Nwosu, however, picked the governorship ticket of the Action Alliance (AA), with the state chapter of the APC being polarised on who to vote.

President Buhari in his speech at the Dan Anyiam Stadium during his campaign rally, countered the APC National Chairman who has mandated APC members to vote for Uzodinma.

"You can vote for whosoever you want, do not allow intra or inter party affairs stop you from voting for the candidate of your choice," he said.

But Oshiomhole had boasted that the APC does not need the support of the AA to deliver President Buhari in the state.

He said: "Let me make it clear that the APC is not in alliance with any party, we have the power to deliver the President.

"You should vote for Uzodinma as our governorship candidate, don't be deceived by anybody"

2019 Presidency: PDP Mocks Buhari, APC Over ‘Failed’ Campaign In Owerri, Imo State

Posted: 29 Jan 2019 02:44 PM PST

President Muhammadu Buhari Owerri Rally

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has mocked the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, over what it described as a failed campaign in Owerri, Imo State on Tuesday.

The PDP noted that the scanty attendance at President Muhammadu Buhari's rally shows that the President has become a 'general without a troop.'

According to the PDP, the situation was so pathetic that a discomfited President Buhari could not articulate any message to support his re-election bid but told Nigerians to vote for any candidate of their choice in the general election, Daily Post reports.

The PDP said, "It was pitiable to watch Mr. President garble, as the audience who refused to carry APC broom also remained passive, while many started leaving the venue while he was still presenting his address.

"Ironically, President confessed that he had nothing new to tell Nigerians. If anything, the APC Presidential candidate, in his party's usual penchant for false performance claims, alluded to a non-existent 'market money' which elicited heckles from the audience.

"The fact that a sitting President cannot attract a meaningful audience from the same state where a mammoth and overflowing crowd received Atiku Abubakar, just a week ago, further confirms that Nigerians, across the board, have indeed attained a consensus to return the PDP to power, come February 16, 2019.

"The PDP therefore charges President Buhari to counsel himself, end his desperation for power and spend the remaining days to prepare his hand over notes to Atiku Abubakar, so that our nation can be returned to the path of peace, national cohesion and economic prosperity, which has eluded us in almost four years."

Waje confesses about how she pretended to be happy at the beginning of the year.

Posted: 29 Jan 2019 01:57 PM PST

"I wasn't excited about the new year, forget Instagram post" - Waje confesses
Waje says she wasn't really thrilled about the new year despite her message on Instagram at the beginning of the year.

The music star made her confession known via her Instagram page on Monday, January 28, 2019, where she posted a quite a long post talking about what she went through and how God was able to come through for her.

"It's a long read but I hope it inspires you so please indulge. I wasn't excited about the new year, forget Instagram post. I was so anxious and the feeling of uncertainty scared the s**** out of me. Some old wounds opened and the sore was nasty, my mind was too weak. I honestly knew what was wrong, didn't want to be strong, I prayed as usual but my special time with God I ignored...... I was in so much pain and wanted to feel numb. Angry that I couldn't control my emotions and lost. It happens to the best of us but Then @artistry_by_tolani sent me a message from her church. See eh, when people hurt you or when you hurt your self consistently, it's not their fault or yours.

"We sometimes blind ourselves to the simple truth, the devil will always seek to steal your joy and use anyone who's available to be an instrument including you! Being reminded of that made me jump, I was like kai waje you fall my hand. He went on to say that the Christ in you is freedom so anything that holds you to ransom is your choice,u can refuse to be in that state physically or emotionally and I jumped up again! Paused the video and said God forgive my foolishness. See fine girl like me that my smile radiates and my voice touches lives. I have so much more inside me yet I'm walking the earth with no sparks by CHOICE like are you serious!

"Chai! I said a prayer silently ( lord remove this ugly cloak of heaviness and despair and cover my face with your veil of joy! So I want to encourage you, sweethearts. Everyday won't be rosy but you choose to be radiant and laugh and fetch from the springs of peace and joy. You will end well this year strong! You will love and laugh and your aura will be joy contagious. Every time someone hurts you at work, your love life, school , whatever, wherever, just say "ekwensu I see your plan but in @theonlychigul voice "you are a waste" cause by choice I am a reflection of Christ and that is JoY! I was delivered yesterday so I can genuinely say Happy new year, Watch this space! I and my people are made for signs and wonders. We haven't started sweets! We WIN," she wrote.

Waje doesn't just write on Instagram all the time and so when she decides to or speaks about something, then it will certainly go viral. Like the time she talked about going through depression.

Actress Gupta apologises over racist comment on Nigerian footballer, Alex Iwobi
Indian actress, Esha Gupta, who is an Arsenal ambassador, has issued an apology on Twitter after she found herself at the receiving end of massive backlash on social media, following her comments on Arsenal and Nigerian footballer, Alex Iwobi.

"Guys, I'm sorry you thought it was racist. Was bad on my part, being a sports lover. Wallah never meant it. Sorry, guys forgive the stupidity," read one of her tweets while in another, she added: "I didn't realise it directed towards racism."

But "apology unaccepted" appears to be the general sentiment on Twitter. Earlier, Esha Gupta shared a screenshot of her WhatsApp conversation with a friend, which referred to Iwobi in offensive terms such as "gorilla faced" and "Neanderthal."

In response, Esha herself wrote: "I honestly don't know why they don't bench him more." In another tweet, Esha Gupta claimed she was simply venting out her "frustration" over Arsenal's 1-3 defeat to Manchestar United in a recent game.

"It was us discussing our frustration during the game. Sorry, as I didn't realise it directed towards racism. Laughed over the spur of the moment, which was the games result, guys. Been victim of racism myself before. But this is not something I'm proud of. It was a fault, sorry, guys," she tweeted.

I Am Healthy, Ready For Trial – Orji Kalu Tells EFCC

Posted: 29 Jan 2019 10:46 AM PST

Orji Kalu
A former governor of Abia State, Orji Kalu says he is ready to face trial at the Federal High Court in Lagos over an alleged N7.6billion fraud preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

He said this on Monday while fielding questions from newsmen at his country home in Igbere, Bende Local Government Area of the state.

While speaking on his achievements as governor, Kalu said he has never stolen from the treasury of Abia state, adding that he is ready to face any trial.

Kalu, however, expressed concerns over Justice Mohammed Idris' decision to adjourn his trail indefinitely.

He said: "I have so much respect for Justice Mohammed Idris because of the way he handles his court. I feel court must be a place of justice. I don't know why he adjourned my trial indefinitely, but as long as I am healthy I will go to court. I have never run away from trial. I am very prepared for trial.

"I'm very willing to take my trial; there's no commissioner under my administration when I was the governor of the state who said I stole money. There are 19 witnesses and none of them have said I have stolen money.

"It's only Justice Idris that can explain why my trial was adjourned indefinitely. I have no right to judge him; there are other courts who will judge how correct his final decision will be on my trial."

Kalu also insinuated that the court case was being influenced by political enemies, who want to malign him.

DAILY POST had reported that Justice Idris on Wednesday said he could not continue adjudicating on the trial of Kalu because the Court of Appeal President Zainab Bulkachuwa did not give him a fiat to do so.

CJN Onnoghen: Tinubu Attacks Atiku, Says PDP Candidate Unfit To Be President

Posted: 29 Jan 2019 09:31 AM PST

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, National leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, on Tuesday declared that Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was unfit for the position he was currently seeking to occupy.

Asiwaju, who is the co-chairman of the APC presidential campaign council made the remark while responding to Abubakar's state of the nation address on the suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Walter Onnoghen by President Muhammadu Buhari.

In a statement he personally signed, the APC National leader, alleged that Abubakar indicted himself over his stance on the suspension of Onnoghen.

According toDaily Post report, Tinubu said: "The PDP's presidential candidate, former Vice President Atiku, recently made comments regarding suspension of CJN Onnoghen. Atiku's release is entitled "State of the nation address". I encourage everyone to read it. In its disregard for the truth and patent misrepresentations, it will go down in political history as a classic of self-incrimination. Atiku thinks the piece exalts him. Instead it evinces his penchant for wilful misstatement that make him unfit for the office he now seeks and has always coveted.

"In the statement, he claims to have dedicated all his life to the defense of democracy. Those of you who know him, and even those who don't, know this is not true. If all of his life has been dedicated to support for democracy, then he is far too young to run for president; however, I must congratulate him for having somehow managed to find or begin a second life. This rebirth as a defender of democracy must have taken place only a few short hours ago.

"His previous life of over seventy years was one of skirting democracy and of blatant impunity in attempting to enshrine reactionary government and installing an unjust political economy on the backs of the people.

"In his address, he claims the nation has entered a difficult moment. To my dear and good friend Atiku, I say the difficulty is not so much with the moment but with your memory.

"When you lorded over Nigeria in tandem with President Obasanjo, there were myriad court orders mandating that your government render to Lagos state the funds due it to improve the lives of its millions of inhabitants. Instead, you gladly and without dispute joined Obasanjo in utter disregard for these unambiguous legal verdicts. In so doing, you demeaned the rule of law. You also readily sacrificed the economic development and welfare of millions of innocent people in Lagos just to gain some illicit political advantage that proved to be fleeting and of no avail to you in the end.

"You now speak of democracy and the need for executive restraint. But such verbal finery never crossed your lips or traversed your pen when you and Obasanjo improperly removed Senate Presidents more easily than a trendy cad exchanges a pair of shoes or changes the subject of his false affections. Your love for democracy is such that you were recently observed apologising to the PDP for not rigging the Lagos 2003 gubernatorial polls as you did the polls in the other Southwestern states.

"Instead of repenting for rigging at least five states too many, your expressed regret was that you had not rigged enough; that you rigged one state less than the complete mauling of democracy your party and your principal had mandated. Regarding such a destructive love as this, I am sure democracy and fair elections would rather do without.

"A few weeks ago in a televised broadcast you even revealed to the people that your official policy envisioned the base enrichment of your friends should you achieve the presidency.

"I must assume that your lifetime as a defender of democracy began after this long record of unjust deeds and even after your latest statement of intent to mould Nigeria into an oligarchy. If this is not the case and if all these things you have done and said are consistent with your current notion of democracy, then there is but one conclusion. The democracy you now claim to support remains a rather strange breed of democracy, such as to be nigh indistinguishable from the regressive, rentier political economy you designed and foisted on Nigeria as the crafty lieutenant of the bullish Obasanjo.

"Strange that you would choose to depict the current situation so inaccurately as to stir emotions unduly. You claim that CJN Onnoghen has been removed. However, this is not so. He has been temporarily suspended. You and your advisors should know and recognize the vast legal difference between "suspension" and "removal." Yet you persist in conflating the two in what you say is a pursuit of justice. While true you may be in pursuit of something. It is not justice.

"If justice was your goal, you would acknowledge that the CJN has only been temporarily suspended not permanently removed. Thus, your recourse to saying that the president violated the constitutional provision regarding the removal of a CJN is inaccurate in that Buhari never intended to remove the CJN. What he has done is to have the CJN temporarily get out of his chair so that the serious matters against him can be heard by someone other than himself. Should the charges show themselves to be wrong or unproven, the CJN will be automatically reinstated as the head of the Nigerian judiciary. However, for Atiku to state that the CJN should remain on seat while credible and grave charges swirl around him is to put the entire workings of the Supreme Court under a heavy cloud.

"It is ironic that Atiku of all people throw such darts at President Buhari. Buhari actually exercised considerable restraint in this matter. He has reasonably balanced concerns about the integrity of the judiciary with concerns for the individual rights of the accused. Nothing has been taken from the CJN that cannot be restored if the facts warrant such restoration. Thus, President Buhari conditionally suspended the CJN. By doing so, this allows for the case to move forward without the CCT or others fearing the CJN might use his position to unduly interfere with proceedings. If the CJN is exonerated, then he will return to his position. If not exonerated, then a more permanent discipline awaits him.

"This is an imminently fair and balanced approach, especially given the fact that the constitution and other laws really do not provide clear and unambiguous guidance in how to proceed in a case whether the CJN is the defendant under this unique fact pattern. While Atiku rails against Buhari because of this act of restraint, we can but imagine the tack Chief Obasanjo and Atiku would have taken if they presided over this situation. By now, they would have put CJN Onnoghen in the stocks or shipped him off to that infamous farm in Ota where he would have begun his new career in plucking poultry.

"It is curious that Atiku would take up the marker of a jurist who has enjoyed the sweet but hidden benefits of several million dollars of mystery money passing through his secret bank accounts, Even when discovered, these accounts held several hundred thousands of dollars in them.

"Someone in Atiku's position would normally be wary of a judge thusly tainted. A politician in Atiku's position should more objectively be concerned that the government would have been the source of the hidden funds or that government would use the fact of the clandestine money as leverage against the judge to make sure he did government's bidding for surely this a jurist highly compromised by pecuniary indiscretion. It is almost unnatural that an opposition candidate would champion the soiled cause of such a judge who seems to have sold something in exchange for the money found in his vest's secret pockets.

"Yet, Atiku now cries the anguished cry of a man who thought he had won the lottery only to find he had misread the last number on his claim ticket. Or perhaps these are the tears of a man who thought he had invested in a sure deal only to see the reason for the investment evaporate before his very eyes. Now, Atiku and his cohort seek to turn their personal disappointment into a burning national issue. They seek to manufacture a constitutional crisis where none exists.

"They said they suspended their campaign because of this matter. Here, they are as illogical as illogic can beget. By suspending their campaign, did that mean they were permanently ending it? Of course not! That would be a boycott or the permanent "removal" of the campaign. No, they have resumed their campaign after temporarily suspending it. If they know the meaning of suspend in this regard, only malign intent allows them to feign ignorance to the meaning of the word "suspend" when applied to CJN Onnoghen.

"There is no need to quake at the solitary incident of the interim suspension of a justice pending the legal resolution of serious criminal claims against him. If this matter is shorn of the political trappings it has acquired, there is no fairer way to handle the matter.

"Atiku, I gather, would rather leave the man in seat and allow the charges against him to go unattended. Or Atiku would rather that the CJN preside over his own trial. Such is the logical conclusion of Atiku's position. It is an odd bravery that would lead Atiku to stake such a position. If Atiku is as oddly courageous as he now depicts, then let him venture a step further. Pray tell, let Atiku tell us what good and precious thing he and the PDP rendered that they cannot even countenance the temporary and conditional suspension of a single jurist until the charges of illegality against the man have been fully resolved in open proceedings conducted by his judicial peers.

"Atiku claims to be a democrat and defender of democracy, but where was he, his voice and action during Abacha's suffocating maximum rule? Was he not a member and cheer-leader of one of the five.

"Abacha parties aptly described then as five leprous fingers of Abacha? Did he even have the courage to visit his mentor, late Major General Shehu Musa Yar Ádua, in jail for fear of Abacha stopping him from running for the governorship of Adamawa?

"Dare Atiku say what is really upsetting him and what he really is hiding in his attempt to cloak his lifetime of undemocratic reckonings in the swaddling of this much too belated democratic second birth he now claims for himself."

Updated: Gunmen kidnap Abia APC chairman

Posted: 29 Jan 2019 08:24 AM PST

Gunmen
The Abia State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Donatus Nwankpa has reportedly been kidnapped by gunmen.

Nwankpa's kidnap, our reporter gathered was kidnapped by armed men at Aro Ngwa junction along Aba-Enugu Expressway at about 11pm on his way from Umuahia, the State capital to Aba, the commercial nerve of the state to prepare ahead of the visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to the state.

It was gathered that members of the party were thrown into panic following the breaking of the news of the abduction of Nwankpa.

APC Publicity Secretary, Comrade Benedict Godson while confirming Nwankpa's abduction, told newsmen in Aba on Tuesday that the party got information that there were plots by the opposition to disrupt the party's presidential rally Tuesday, but never expected that it will get to the level of planning to kidnap the state chairman.

He said: "There was a plot on ground to disrupt today's visit by the president, but we never expected this. He was kidnapped and up till now, we've not heard from him. He remains our authentic Chairman. Kidnapping Hon. Donatus Nwankpa, a foundation builder, a mover and the man who has brought this party from nowhere to somewhere cannot stop this party from winning Abia.

"I'm telling you authoritatively that there are some persons in opposition party who might have done this in collaboration with some persons in our own party and we are telling them that this is not the right way to play politics.

"This move cannot stop Dr. Uche Sampson Ogah, a Godsend industrialist in winning Abia. People are afraid and according to our party Chairman, it's obvious that some persons were planted into our party by the opposition to distract the party.

"For now we are not accusing anybody, but we know that the evil people are trying their best, but they'll fail. We are sure our Chairman will be back soon because he's a good man and a man of God. We plead with his abductors to release him for he meant well for Abia State."

Also reacting to the kidnap of Nwankpa, a chieftain of the party, Hon. Acho Obioma wondered why the gunmen should go after a man that he described as easy going and friendly.

Obioma who represented Umuahia/Ikwuano constituency at the federal house of representatives, while appealing to the gunmen to release Nwankpa also called on heads of various security agencies to ensure that the state chairman was rescued from the hands of his abductors.

Pensioners to Buhari: have mercy on us

Posted: 29 Jan 2019 08:02 AM PST

Muhammadu Buhari
Pensioners in the Federal Civil Service have urged President Muhammadu Buhari to give more attention to the welfare of the senior citizens who had served the country meritoriously during their active service.

Although, they appreciated the efforts made so far by the present administration, but still pleading that the payment of the remaining outstanding allowances should be made for the survival of their members.

They spoke through the new chairman of the Federal Civil Service Pensioners( FCSP) in Ondo state, Kehinde Durotoye on Monday during the inauguration of its new executives in Akure, the Ondo state capital.

The election was coordinated by Officials of FCSP from Abuja under the aegis of Nigerian Union of Pensioners( NUP).

He said the federal government should fast track the efforts in settling all outstanding arrears of pensioners, stressing that many of them had died due to lack of funds to meet various needs especially food and medication.

Durotoye recalled with dissatisfaction May 2011, when he was appointed as the state coordinator of the union by former leadership of the union and inaugurated alongside other sister states of Ekiti, Kwara, Kogi and Ogun.

He said": We thought we had arrived but the shenanigans that played out between the former leaders and NUP National Headquarters scuttled that dream.

The chairman noted that the National Headquarters decided not to recognize the inauguration on the grounds that they were not carried along despite being duly informed in writing and approved fund for the exercise.

The state NUP Chairman, Chief Raphael Adetuwo congratulated the new officers, noting that as leader of Pensioners, he should be ready to tolerate incessant worries from senior citizens because of old age hazards and poverty.

Other new executive members include Segun Ayegoro, Vice Chairman, Mrs O.Agbi, Treasurer, Olusegun Jacob, Auditor, James Aremu, State Trustee 1 and Femi Owoeye, State Auditor 11.

Banditry: Zamfara calls for 3-day fasting

Posted: 29 Jan 2019 02:17 PM PST

Zamfara State

The Zamfara Government has called on the people of the state to embark on three-day fasting and intensive prayers to seek God's intervention against the activities of bandits, kidnappers and other crimes.

The state's Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Bello Dankande, made the call at a news conference on Tuesday in Gusau.

He said "I am sure you all know the efforts the state government and the Federal Government are making to tackle the activities of criminal elements in the state.

"We believe that the fasting and prayers will facilitate Allah's intervention for both the safety and success of our security men and bring the ugly situation to an end.

"These three days of fasting is voluntary to everybody because we are all either directly or indirectly affected by the situation.

"We are also soliciting for the intensive reading of the complete Holy Qur'an by Islamic scholars and their students to invoke Allah's help."

The commissioner said that the law against wood logging and illegal sale of petrol in the state were still in place, adding that violators would face the full wrath of the law.

"The ban on wood logging and illegal sale of petrol had greatly frustrated the activities of bandits as the law had affected their food supply, fuel, among others.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the state government had in 2018 imposed a ban on wood logging and illegal sales of petrol in the state.

"This followed reports that the bandits received food, illicit drugs, alcohol and other supplies through the wood loggers and those who engaged in illegal sale of petrol to the bandits."

Breaking: Lawyers ignore NBA’s court boycott directive

Posted: 29 Jan 2019 06:43 AM PST

NBA
Many lawyers in Abuja on Tuesday ignored Monday's directive by the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) for legal practitioners to stay away from courts until the Executive reverses the suspension of Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen.

Visits to courts in Abuja on Tuesday revealed that fully robbed lawyers, turned up in court, ready to conduct businesses for the day.

The situation was the same in the Supreme Court (located within the Three Arms Zone), through the Court of Appeal (located also in the Three Arms Zone), the Federal High Court (in Maitama) and the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Maitam.

Although most judges at the Federal High Court did not sit, with some said to be attending a seminar, Justices of the Supreme Court sat and conducted proceedings. So was the case in some High Court of the FCT visited.
Some of the lawyers spoken to said the directive by the NBA lacked the force of law. And since it was not an order of the court, lawyers could choose to abide by it or disregard it where their client's interest is at stake.

They argue that since the issue of the suspension of the CJN was already in court, the NBA and all other interested parties should allow the court to reach a decision one way or the other.

Details later...
