The singer has had to respond to critics who claim that he did not sell out his concert at the O2 Arena.

Davido shows 'receipts' confirming his sold out concert at the O2 Arena
Davido headlined his debut concert on Sunday, January 27, 2019, performing before a sold-out 20,000 capacity crowd at the iconic London venue.

The DMW boss had happily announced just hours before the event that the tickets have been sold out ahead of the concert.

But in the aftermath of what was an historic moment in his career, questions began to be raised with a section of fans asking if indeed the venue was sold out as there were reportedly some empty sections spotted during the concert.

This was further strengthened by a report in the Guardian UK on Monday, January 28, where it was reported as ''nearly sold out.''

This immediately sparked another round of inquisition on social media forcing Davido to issue a response on his Twitter page.

In a post he shared on Thursday night, the singer shared an e-mail image from someone identified as Ola, sent to the managers of the O2 Arena, who confirmed that indeed the venue was sold out on the night.

With the caption, ''Our People and amebo ..... MADISON SQUARE GARDEN NEXT'', Davido also hinted that his next plan is to sell out the Madison Square Garden in the United States.

Now that this has been officially cleared, we think it is more worthy to appreciate this feat by the singer, who in the past few years has put in a lot of work to ensure that Nigerian music is recognized on the global stage.

The Banks Music boss teams up with his official disc jockey, DJ Yung to serve this feel good song that taps inspiration from a variety of other Nigerian songs like 2face's Nfana Ibaga, which coincidentally was also his debut single following the break-up of the Plantashun Boiz.

#DoubleHomicide: Why Nigerian underground creatives should never stop creating viral content

Posted: 02 Feb 2019 12:17 AM PST

Over the past three years, Nigerian creatives of all kind have made it off viral content.
In the final quarter of 2018, Nigerian rapper, Picazo Rhap, who had been making rap freestyle videos for a really long time made just one video that changed his life. Picazo made this video just as the phenomenon of the zanku dance, rap sensation, Zlatan Ibile and the Chinko Ekun smash hit, "Able God" started gaining traction.

While the freestyle he delivered in the video was very organic, brilliant and authentic, with memories of a particular pouting 'cameraman,' licking his lips as Picazo delivered bars upon bars permanently etched in the minds of Nigerians who watched the video, Twitter went mad.

Within 24 hours, influential Nigerians like Bizzle Osikoya, co-founder of management company, The Plug NG  began asking and researching who the talented MC was.

Within days of that rap freestyle dropping, he signed to street king, Olamide Badoo's record label, YBNL Records alongside his fellow freestyle rapper, Yomi Blaize and they dropped a joint album with Olamide titled, YBNL Family Mafia – Picazo now has a sleeper hit, "Macaroni" under his belt.

The best part is that Nigerians were more surprised at the number of following he had already garnered as a viral rap freestyle videos maker across Twitter and Instragram even before that one viral video.

Yet, the mainstream never knew about him, but it took only one video, posted by one random person for him to get his moment. Lesson one, never stop creating the content that leads your engagement.

Lesson Two: always bring the heat

Fast forward earlier today, a friend sent me a video of a #DoubleHomicide freestyle session. For nuance, #DoubleHomicide is a viral freestyle trend, created off a song of the same name, from LadiPoe's debut album, Talk About Poe. The song featured rapper, Ghost, one-half of Hip-Hop supergroup, Show Dem Camp.

Back to the freestyle video. The video was made by a certain Eva Johnson (Tweets @missevajohnson) and it was straight fire - bar after bar, and even when she started singing.

Her technique blew my mind mostly because, myself and that friend who sent me the video went to Law school with said Ms. Eva Johnson. If anybody had told me she could make music, I'd have thrown a plate of decimated fish from a fish pepper soup at them, after first dipping it in Isolo erosion.

Back then, she was the very bold and cute group leader of group six at Lagos campus – I wasn't just impressed, I was blown away and practically wanted pull her out from my laptop's screen and buy her a plate of boli and groundnut.

The most surprising part is that it wasn't a one-off either. I was even more surprised that she had released an album last year – if my superior found out that I missed someone's album despite my brainless boastful tendencies that I knew every album dropping, he'd have laughed at me like I just got curved by a woman out of my league.

Point is, someone like me and other people might not have known her at this point without that video.

Creatives, never stop creating viral content

Apparently, it's no news that the world continues to gravitate toward visual content than even audio or written content. Thus, while it can be frustrating for a creative or even a writer that they are not getting needed props for their work, despite the retweets and whatnot, they should never stop creating viral content.

They should never let the lack of attention make them weary. Yes, it is hard to find fuel to go on, and self-motivate, but it's important that creatives make themselves their own standard, opponent and who to impress during those trying phases.

It takes is one chance for your life to change and for you to get your dreams – you don't want to be lagging on low quality nonsense when the right person sees your work.

It's social media, you never know who might be watching. Mayorkun was also discovered through a social media viral video and signed to Davido's DMW record label where he was playing the piano and singing. Dolapo Shawarma became an overnight sensation because someone posted him online.

Equally, the famous 'Corporate Guy' keke driver around Surulere, Lagos is making good money because he stuck with what he knows. The #WeAreNigerianCreatives hashtag has helped a lot of people and those it hasn't helped should know their time is coming.

While it might seem cliché to say you should never stop creating, you need to realize that true talent will always get its chance in the spotlight. Thus, think of why you're doing what you're doing and if you love it, not just for the money and fame, but for the satisfaction of doing what you love.

That requires knowing that you have the talent and that you're in the right space, even without props

This one is hard, especially when you're getting no feedback from people who matter. While people with little or not talent have made it, they're the exception, not the rule and those things don't happen to everybody – you can't hitch your wagon to an exception.

Recently, Pulse wrote about the rules of blowing up in the industry which Ruggedman churned out on the first track, "9ja Hip-Hop," off his classic sophomore studio album, Ruggedy Baba. Rule one was, "You have to be sure you have the talent in you."

Distiguishing between the thin line between talent and obsession is very hard, but you must know, so you don't make mistakes.

That said, sometimes, what you need is passion and a clear plan to make yourself the best possible like Cristiano Ronaldo did.

Sometimes, passion drives what talent drives. What should you then do, if you love it; be the best version of yourself and never stop creating the viral content. While everybody won't make it off viral content, viral content aids development and put you out there.

What exactly do the Big Brother Naija auditions mean?

Posted: 02 Feb 2019 12:08 AM PST

The audition comes in the thick of a collision of Nigerian problems while a viral hashtag soars to up the lists of Twitter trends.
It's again swell season for Nigeria; it's time for Multichoice to make a killing, it's time for the polarizing allegiances that degenerate into downright toxicity.

It's another time for Nigeria to arouse global attention with the battling heads who paste us across continental media with three months of madness for eight figures of Naira.

It's Big Brother Naija or BBN or #BigBrotherNaija where modern capitalism wins through modern communication giants. More importantly, it's time for discussions on the numerous Nigerian lacks, because if rumours are true, this edition will hold in Nigeria.

Earlier today, as news of Big Brother Auditions filtered unto social media, #BBNaija been second on the list of Twitter trends, with only a sponsored post, #ShareLoveWithTecno the only trend preventing it from an inevitable top spot. The anticipation has begun and social media is swell.

Coincidentally, this comes on the cusp of the ever-viral discussions around the Nigerian Presidential Elections, in the thick of the disgraceful ASUU strike than remains unresolved and has stilled the lives of numerous Nigerian teens and youths whose only offence was being born into families that couldn't send them to private Universities or abroad for one reason or the other.

On the one part, the silence around the ASUU strike that has definitely set certain lives back for 3 months in favour of #BBNaija hashtag mongering reeks of a worrying dose of misplaced priorities. It's definitely fathomable that the bulk of contributors to that hashtag are not heavy grinders in Lagos or Abuja heat; neither are they merely social media influencers. Most likely, they are youths, away from school, misplacing their priorities.

On the other part, it's just a return of an annual media sensation that drives traffic and capitalism with a slaver's command. ASUU strike or not, it is reasonable that #BBNaija was always going to thrive, heavily driven by the bulk of Nigerian youth.

Another note, it could also be that Nigerian youths, home from ASUU strike, in a matter desperately out of their hands or resigned to how their say matters so little in the Presidential race with the severe dearth of promising candidates that actually have a chance at winning, or even without the resources or good partners to even think of valentine's day are seeking solace in a bit of youthful entertainment, certain to birth drama and sensations worthy of celebration.

From whatever perspective you perceive #BBNaija from, you will most likely find points to back up your cause with aggressive persuasion. #BBNaija is like an Arachne that births layers upon layers of organic issues and persuasive points.

But then, could we have used this moment better?

Everything can be done better – even good things could have been better; perfection is a mirage.

No matter how adaptable a concept is, on a scale of importance, certain things will definitely rank higher than others. Thus, this could have been a time to not stay silent with the power in our unified voice, which we continue to use in aiding a culture of silence when speaking up would do a greater good.

In November 2018, Pulse spoke with Damilola Marcus the founder of #MarketMarch, a few weeks before the landmark march on Yaba market and she mentioned something, "We lack a protest culture in this country, and that's why we continue to lack the things we should have."

She was right and in this context, those words again ring true. While it's hard to trade blames as frustration sometimes needs worthy distraction, after those distractions are gone, we will be back to facing these problems again.

Thus, this could have been a moment to use pop culture relevance to start a necessary conversation, to impact the issues plaguing our country long-term. Have we missed it? I guess time will tell.

While #BBNaija in itself is not a bad thing, it just came in the thick of a collision of Nigerian problems. Also noteworthy, while carrying placards get major attention to get needy voices heard, sometimes, an aggregate of channeled social media posts creates trends and thatcan be sufficient protest.

Remember, it happened in the case of #EndSARS.

Seun Kuti listed to perform at 61st GRAMMY Awards premiere ceremony

Posted: 02 Feb 2019 12:01 AM PST

Seun Kuti is expected to share the stage with Malian singer Fatoumata Diawara for a performance at the premiere ceremony for the 61st GRAMMY Awards.
The Afrobeat singer and his band Kuti & Egypt 80 have been nominated in the Best World Music Album category for "Black Times" released on March 2, 2018. Kuti's performance will be accessible to online viewers who visit Grammy's website on Sunday, February 10, 2019.

Seven years after dropping "Fatou", Seun Kuti's co-performer Diawara introduces her second studio album "Fenfo" (Something To Say). The 11-track album released on May 18, 2018, has put her in the mix with him as they both seek accolades for their works.

Carrying on family trend

Seun Kuti's Grammy nomination in the Best World Music Album grouping is his first. He carries on a family trend of being named for an award at the Grammys. His brother Femi Kuti has already been nominated 4 times.

The latter has not been able to take home any of the awards. He was first nominated in the World Music class in 2003. And then in 2010, 2012 and 2013.

For Seun Kuti, it will be another reason to have a party if he is able to break the chain of unsuccessful nominations. He confirmed this to the BBC News in December 2018, while also sharing what his Grammy nomination means to him.

''It felt amazing, highly unexpected, great news, it completely blew my mind."

On Instagram, the singer feels honoured to have been featured for a performance. He is captured in a moment of excitement in a post he shared today.

"Hands up if you are performing at the Grammys," reads a reaction he put up on IG.

Runtown lied on his alleged court ‘victory’ over Eric Many – Record label claims

Posted: 01 Feb 2019 05:30 AM PST

Runtown
Eric Many, a record label which has a case with singer Runtown, has denied claims by the singer that he has gotten victory at a Federal High court in Abuja.

In a statement released by Eric Many, the case is still in court with Runtown having only a 14-days window to file a defence of the case at the appeal court.

See the full statement below….

It has come to the knowledge of Ericmany Limited that our artiste, Douglas Jack Agu, alias 'Runtown', has taken to the social media, especially twitter and Instagram, celebrating a supposed 'victory' in our case in Court. Runtown is telling lies. Runtown did not win the case. He has not even filed a defence. His lawyers only challenged the jurisdiction of the Court, claiming that the case is supposed to go for arbitration.

Ericmany challenged the right of Runtown's lawyer to appear in the case, since the same lawyer prepared the Recording Contract which Runtown is breaching.

On 4th December, 2018, the Court ruled that Runtown's lawyer can appear. But the Court dismissed Runtown's application challenging its jurisdiction. It held that a breach of the contract is not for arbitration. The Court also held that Runtown should maintain the status quo. This means that Runtown should stop operations until the case is over.

Runtown filed two appeals in the Court of Appeal on these. He then prayed the High Court to suspend the decisions and the trial itself "pending the determination of the Appeal filed at the Court of Appeal, Abuja". In the meantime, Ericmany commenced contempt proceedings against Runtown due to his flouting of the Court Order. Form 48 was served on him at page 18 of Punch newspaper of 19th January, 2019.

On 23rd January, 2019, the High Court agreed to suspend its decision and further trial to allow Runtown's appeals to run out. This is normal practice. The lower Court cannot be seen to be fighting the appeal Court. The Court warned Runtown to move his papers to the Court of Appeal within 14 days or the relief is cancelled. The so called 'victory' is like the 'victory' of a convicted person who obtained a suspension of his jail sentence until a decision is taken on his appeal. Indeed, a very unintelligent lie.

So rather than misleading the unwary public that he has won, Runtown should rather concentrate on pushing his appeals. The relief he got in the High Court is a merely a short break by the High Court to respect the Court of Appeal. The case is still there. He has not filed a defence because he obviously has no defence. Runtown still owes Ericmany more than N266 Million. He has not produced a single album as agreed. The Contract is still running. Ericmany has won the first round. Runtown has filed two appeals. The case is presently before the High Court of the FCT and Court of Appeal.

Runtown cannot lawfully do anything contrary to the Contract until he wins the appeal. He has never obeyed any Court order. We hope that now that he has run to the Court of Appeal he will respect the

Court of Appeal. We therefore warn the general public not to buy his lies of 'victory'. The High Court only suspended trial to await Runtown's appeal. No law abiding person or corporate body should have anything to do with Runtown until the court cases are over. Court proceedings must be respected by all.

We must learn how to honour contracts.

Ericmany wants to set an example, even if it takes 50 years to make the point. We are looking beyond Runtown in this struggle. Contracts must be respected in Nigeria. You don't invest millions in a greenhorn artiste and when he feels he has become known he abandons the Contract and start insulting the investor calling him 'broke' and courting public sympathy. Such conduct is immoral and Ericmany will deploy all it has to make this point. Yes, many ingrates might have done it and gotten away with it, but we choose to fight for sanctity of Contract. We will fight it all through, no matter how long and how much it takes until Runtown honours his Contract prepared by his own lawyer which he freely signed. At Ericmany, we see this as a fight for honour and principle.

Thank you all.

Signed:

Johnson Adumike

General Manager, Ericmany Limited

Yvonne Nelson is currently in search of a man she promises never to date a Nigerian again

Posted: 01 Feb 2019 04:30 AM PST

Actress Yvonne Nelson
Actress Yvonne Nelson has promised never to date a Nigerian again after her relationship with Nigerian artiste Iyanya failed some years ago.

According to the mother of one, she arrived at that decision because of her previous experience dating one of them which we all know is "Your waist" hitmaker Iyanya.

Speaking on Yvonne Okoro's show "Cooks and Braggarts" she revealed that she once posted on her Instagram page seeking a date but was shocked that no one reached out.

"You mean my post? No! No! No one reached out to me…maybe they don't believe me. It is what it is. I am looking for one. In fact get me one in Ghana," Yvonne Nelson said.

"As for Nigerian men I am done," the actress jokingly added.

It will be recalled that Yvonne Nelson was previously in a serious relationship with Nigerian artiste Iyanya. However, the relationship between the pair did not last, as it ended on the rocks some months later.

"We broke up because we hardly had time for each other. I was hustling and I would do four shows in a day and I will make 2 million. So, I won't say because I was in love with a woman I'm going to see money and I'm going to lay back," Iyanya later explained in an interview.

Rwanda Set To Launch Telecom Satelite Sooner Than Expected

Posted: 01 Feb 2019 04:28 AM PST

Rwanda Satellites
Two years ago in 2017, Rwanda announced for 2020, the launch in space of its first telecommunications satellite.

But it is finally this year that the telecom equipment will be propelled into orbit from the international space station, the Ecofin Agency reported.
Recently, the ambassador of Japan to Rwanda, Mr. Takayuki Mayishita announced that Rwanda would have its own Telecom satellite in 2019, earlier than its scheduled year of launch, in 2020.'
This is in line with the implementation of the agreement signed on May 9th, in 2018 between the Rwandan and the Japanese government on Space Inclusion in Africa. Six Young Rwandans are currently being trained in Japan ahead of the Launch. The areas mostly emphasized, are in the fabrication of local satellites specialized on the acquisition of Data on weather and which could further be extended as Earth Observations for purposes of Agriculture.

This partnership between the two governments is channelled and implemented in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and the Japan Space Agency (JAXA), an organization that is seeing to it that this race to space becomes a success. A model of the Rwandan satellite prototype was first displayed in May by the Japan-Rwanda team of experts during the 2018 Transform Africa Summit in Kigali, where 100 Japanese companies displayed cutting edge Satellite technologies.

The satellite is expected to be launched from the International Space Station(ISS) into the orbit before 2019's transform Africa Summit which happens yearly in the Month of may in Rwanda since its launch(Summit's Launch).

The launch of the satellite will see Rwanda join the list few countries in Africa that have placed the devices into orbit.

Standard Chartered Expands Digital Only Retail Bank

Posted: 01 Feb 2019 04:13 AM PST

Mobile Money
Standard Chartered has announced the start of the second phase of its digital-only retail bank across Africa.

In response to growing consumer demand for innovative banking services on the continent, the Bank will launch its digital solution in four key markets during the first quarter of 2019 starting in Uganda in January, followed by Tanzania in February, with Ghana and Kenya to follow.

Following the successful launch of Standard Chartered's first digital retail bank in Côte d'Ivoire last year, the second phase builds on the original CDI platform that onboard clients in under 15 minutes and provides 70 of the most common service requests. The updated digital bank provides enhanced services including QR code and P2P payments, loan and overdraft facilities, and instant fixed deposits. Clients will be able to enjoy the convenience of banking on the go, anytime and anywhere, along with a consistent online experience.

The rollout will also see the Bank engage in strategic local alliances to create an appealing lifestyle banking proposition to provide clients offers across shopping, travel and dining.

Commenting on the second phase of the launch, Sunil Kaushal, Regional CEO, Africa and the Middle East said, "We are thrilled to launch the second phase of our digital-only retail banks across other African markets. The Bank continues to make strategic and sustainable investments in technology – this complements our innovation agenda, as well as enhance our digital offerings and client experiences. Digitising Africa and facilitating access to financial services remains at the heart of our business strategy for the region."

Africa's banking market is the second-fastest-growing and second-most profitable globally. The retail banking sector is a locus of new business models which are emerging in response to low levels of banking penetration and heavy use of cash in the Sub-Saharan continent.

Commenting on the launch of the digital bank in Uganda, Governor, Central Bank Governor Prof. Emmanuel Mutebile said "There will continue to be a disruption in the Banking sector. Institutions that fail to keep up might lose out and at the very worst be pushed out of business in the long run, however, this disruption to bank business models works in the interest of customers and the general populace. I, therefore, congratulate Standard Chartered Bank on unveiling this revolutionary digital initiative as I believe that with such innovations, we are making significant progress in embracing technological changes and digitization to help us achieve stable and long-term growth."

MTN Launches "Double Your Bundle" Promotion

Posted: 01 Feb 2019 04:06 AM PST

MTN has announced that it has slashed it's out of bundle (OOB) data rate by up to 75% for prepaid customers and that it will be doubling selected prepaid voice and data bundles for the next two months.

Prepaid customers currently not making use of data bundles will pay just 29c per megabyte for their data usage, while customers that do purchase data bundles will pay 49c per megabyte for their OOB data usage.

"We have consistently been reducing the cost to communicate in recent years, but we want to do more for our customers and by tackling the issue of OOB pricing, we know we are addressing a real pain point for the millions of South Africans that support MTN," said MTN SA CEO, Godfrey Motsa.

Motsa said the imminent release of the much-needed spectrum was an important milestone in South Africa's telecommunications history and is the reason for optimism.

"We are greatly encouraged by the steps being taken by both government and our regulator, to progress the release of spectrum. More spectrum will be an important contributor to helping further drive down the cost to communicate and by slashing our OOB pricing, MTN is showing our commitment to our customers and to the future of this industry," Motsa said.

The purchasing of data bundles remains the most cost-effective way to use data, so the new OOB pricing is structured to encourage customers to stay in-bundle. For those customers that have never used data bundles, the pricing has been set at 29c to still allow for well-priced use of the internet, despite not using a data bundle.

New customers that have just activated their SIM cards, customers that have ported to MTN, along with active MTN subscribers that have migrated from the contract or hybrid packages to prepaid, will all be allocated the 29c rate. This rate will only change once they start making use of data bundles.

"With so many priorities vying for a share of our consumer's wallets, we want to remove the worry of OOB pricing and help keep our customers connected, at all times and at affordable rates," Motsa said.

Due to the size of the MTN subscriber base, the solution will be rolled out to all pre-paid customers over a seven day period, starting at midnight tonight (31 January). In addition to the reduced OOB pricing, MTN today also announced it will be doubling selected prepaid customer's voice and data bundles for the whole of February and March.

The MTN Double Your Bundle promotion rewards prepaid customers with 100% free value when they purchase selected voice and data bundles by dialling *142#. When customers dial *142#, and select either Double Data or Double Voice, they will be presented with 3 offers. When a customer chooses an offer, e.g. 500MB bundle, they will receive an additional 500MB bundle. The bundles are available in daily, weekly and monthly options.

The *142# service provides discounted offers that are individually tailored to each customer. The Double Your Bundle deal is a further promotion, on top of those discounts already being offered by *142#.

"The MTN Double Your Bundle promotion gives our customers the ability to stay connected longer and for less," says Mapula Bodibe, Executive for MTN SA's Consumer Business.

"We want to show that #WeGotU is not just a campaign, it is how we at MTN think about our customers, making sure we are doing all we can to best meet their expectations and keep them connected to the people and things they love," Bodibe said.

To qualify, customers need to recharge with airtime and buy either data bundles or voice bundles by dialling *142#. They can either opt for option 1 for Double Voice, or option 2 for Double Data purchases. The promotion is only available on *142#.

Both MTN's new OOB pricing and its Double Your Bundle promotion will activate at midnight on 31 January 2019.

Lagos PDP to INEC: Don’t involve NURTW members in elections logistics

Posted: 01 Feb 2019 03:50 AM PST

PDP Supporters
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State says INEC should not involve the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the movement of electoral materials during the February and March polls.

The state Chairman of the party, Dr Adegbola Dominic, expressed the position on Thursday at the party's General Assembly in Lagos.

He said the NURTW had openly aligned with the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state and that the union would surely protect the interests of the ruling party in the February and March elections.

Dominic said a recently held rally of the APC clearly revealed members of the NURTW and its leadership pledging allegiance to the APC.

He said the action of the transport union members clearly showed they were partisan and that they would work to ensure the victory of APC in the elections.

"The Lagos State PDP condemn and reject in totality the announced agreement between the INEC and NURTW with respect to transportation and delivery of election materials before and during the polls.

"We hinge our rejection on the admission and confession of the Lagos APC spokesman, Mr Joe Igbokwe, that officers and members of the NURTW are card-carrying members of the APC.
"The viral videos and pictures confirming notorious NURTW officers and members support for APC in Ekiti, Osun and Kwara states and the rally in Lagos shows the union is clearly partisan.

"Consequently, we declare that the NURTW cannot be fair in the distribution and delivery of election materials to all voting centres especially where PDP voters dominate.

'"We seek that INEC should terminate the agreement and seek collaboration elsewhere," he said.

Dominic condemned the violence in the recently held rally of the APC, saying the incident threatened democracy and safety of residents.

He said the PDP was not disappointed at the mayhem, claiming violence had been the stock-in-trade of the APC.

The party Chairman urged security agencies to provide security at campaign gatherings to avert what he called the loss of lives and valuables that characterised the APC rally.
The party chairman said the APC had failed Lagos residents and that there was the need for electorates in the state to vote out the ruling party in the general elections.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that prominent PDP members at the assembly included a former Deputy National Chairman of the party, Chief Olabode George as well as the Publicity Secretary, Mr Taofik Gani.

NAN reports that party members freely interacted with the executive and elders of the party, on how to ensure electoral victory for the party in the state at the assembly.

Plans to impeach Ambode self-destructive – Action Alliance

Posted: 01 Feb 2019 03:40 AM PST

Akinwunmi Ambode
The National Chairman of Action Alliance, Dr Tunde Anifowose-Kelani, has described the recent alleged impeachment move against Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State as self-destructive for the APC.

The chairman made this assertion in a statement made available to newsmen on Thursday in Ibadan.

Anifowose-Kelani, who described the impeachment move as unwisely, said it could result in APC losing Lagos in the upcoming gubernatorial election.

He, therefore, advised the party to quickly resolve the crisis between the governor and the state legislature.

"It is sheer callousness and abject insensitivity with selfishness for anyone to think of impeaching Governor Ambode after he was denied the second term opportunity.

"Ambode, being a gentleman, took the slight in good faith and with humility.

"The fact that he was denied a second-term ticket does not mean that Lagosians are sleeping at all.

"They are watching the events unfold, and for a group of people to embarrass the governor, it shall meet high resistance with Lagosians' votes.

"We, hereby, call on the leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to caution and lecture the political opportunists with immediate effect on the adverse effect of their negative intention on APC in the state.

"We appeal to those involved to stop the impeachment threat or face mass mobilization of voters against their elections in the state," he said.

Anifowose-Kelani also said the Action Alliance had scaled up its efforts to ensure the success of President Muhammadu Buhari and the party's gubernatorial candidate in Imo, Uche Nwosu, in the upcoming general elections.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Lagos State House of Assembly had on Monday given Ambode a week ultimatum to appear before it.

The house demanded that the governor defend himself against allegations of misconduct levelled against him or face impeachment process.

Alaba traders endorse Salis for Lagos governor

Posted: 01 Feb 2019 03:26 AM PST

Owolabi Salis
The Association of Traders at the Alaba International Market, Lagos has endorsed the candidate of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), Chief Owolabi Salis, for governor.

While hosting the governorship candidate, the group's Vice Chairman, Chief Nnamdi Amadoye, said the traders had agreed to support Salis, by giving him their votes.

Salis has visited them to share his ambition and assure them that he will remember them in his plan if he is elected governor.

Amadoye added: "He has also told us that nobody is compelling him to contest and we believe that when he gets there, there will be no one to influence him wrongly. We have also told him to remain a man of his own word when he gets there so that he will be of great advantage to the masses. That is why we want to give him the opportunity."

He also expressed worry over god-fatherism and said it is a development that will not take the country anywhere. He said: "It is better we deal with this problem of god-fatherism because once politicians know that it all depends on the people to bring them into power, they will always fulfil their campaign promises.

"Sometimes I wonder if there is a kind of devil that enters into aspirants and make them forget their promises once they get to that seat. But, I pray that Salis' case will not be like that when he gets there. In as much as he has come to this place to speak to us, Alaba International Market will support him. We will give him our votes and by the special grace of God, he is going to win."

Salis said Alaba market is one of the biggest markets in Lagos and that, if he becomes the governor, he is going to accommodate their interests in the running of the affairs of the state. "When they are included in the government, they will see how their money is being spent," he added.

The AD candidate said he has noted the demands of the traders, saying that is why he visited the market. He said: "I have travelled to different countries, including China and the popular electronic market there. I know that the Igbos are very industrious and I will also want them to look into practical education and that is where we are going to come in.

"Nigerians has the skills. It is just that we are not getting the right exposure. So, we are going to be investing more in homemade or made-in-Nigeria products."

Governorship candidates decry infrastructure deficit in Kwara

Posted: 01 Feb 2019 03:20 AM PST

Issa Aremu
Governorship candidates of the Labour Party (LP), the African Democratic Party (ADP) and the Abundant Nigeria Renewal Party (ANRP) in next month's elections, Comrade Issa Aremu, Isa Manzuma and Abdulmumin Ajia have painted a sorry of infrastructural decay in Kwara State.

The trio said the state suffers from gross and worst infrastructural deficit and that many of the roads across the state have become deplorable.

They made the remark in Ilorin, the state capital at the 2019 Kwara governorship debate, organized by the Kwara Coalition of Business and Professional Associations (KWACOBPA).

Ajia promised to remove all forms of infrastructure deficit, if elected.

He said: "I will remove the corruption and bottlenecks inherent in the current government's infrastructural development. I will be transparent to Kwarans, by telling them how their money is being spent. I will revive the tourism sector, by putting people that have passion for it. We will have tourism calendar. I will invest in the marketing of all our tourism potentials to the world."

Aremu said he joined the governorship race to promote economic prosperity and growth of the state. The LP candidate said he had attempted to uplift the plight of people as a labour leader and that the time is auspicious to replicate such efforts in the political arena.

He said: "Our party has a five-point development agenda. We will have a 10-year development agenda, to reduce the perennial energy problem in the state. We will try as much as possible to have multiple sources of energy.

"We will get between 250,000 and 500,000 direct jobs from tourism sector. We will also open up our roads in all the three senatorial districts. We will give our people the purchasing powers. I will be on duty to revive all our tourist centres in the state."

On insecurity, the frontline unionist said he will work towards providing employment for the people. He added: "We will engage the services of traditional rulers to ensure security in their domains. Kwara under our watch will return to being a state of harmony."

Manzuma promised to revive some of the state's tourism centres, including the famous Esie Monument in Esie, Irepodun Local Government Area. The former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ilorin branch, said: "I also intend to reactivate the moribund Kwara Hotels, in which all of us are sitting."

The KWACOBPA chairman, Dr Ahmed Raji, said the essence of the debate is to provide a platform for the candidates to unveil their agenda for the private sector, as encapsulated in their manifestoes and programmes.

He said: "The economic and business agenda of the governorship candidates are therefore of strategic importance to existing investors and prospective investors. It is important for the private sector to have an insight into the thinking of the candidates on the trajectory for the state economy."
Meanwhile, communities in Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State have decried their neglect and underdevelopment in the hands of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government in the state.
They said the All Progressives Congress (APC) government at the centre, led by President Muhammadu Buhari, has improved a lot of the people at the grassroots in a number of ways.

The spokesperson of the communities, Chief Wole Oke, said the communities have elected to pitch their tent the APC, because of its achievements. He said the Ilorin-Jebba road, which was in deplorable condition, has been tarred by the Buhari government.

He said: "For the past 16 years I cannot point out any particular project the state government has done in Moro Local Government. They will tell you there is the Kwara State University (KWASU) in Malete, but how many indigenes of the local government are workers there. We have a situation where the catchment area is not gaining anything."

The former Afenifere scribe in Kwara State is confident that the APC would emerge victorious at the general elections. He added: "Our chances are very bright. If there is anything at all, the Kwara State APC will have landslide victory at this year's polls at all levels.

"Take each senatorial district and analyse them. Compare the strength of each party in each senatorial district. What we have is dominance of the APC in all the five local government areas that make up Kwara North district. About two months ago, you knew what happened. Saraki would never believe that the APC would win that by-election and that is a pointer to what will happen in the next three weeks."

Why Atiku can’t get support from Southwest

Posted: 01 Feb 2019 03:09 AM PST

Atiku Abubakar
In this piece, Moses Ipadeola highlights the factors that will shape the presidential election in the Southwest on February 16.

As the nation continues the steady march towards the February 16 Presidential Election, one big question that has been agitating the minds of the people of the Southwest geopolitical zone of the country is what they stand to benefit by voting for either of the two main contending parties – the APC and the PDP. This is a question that falls within the purview of analysts to examine and present an overview of what to expect from the zone in the coming election.

One of the main grouses of the people of the Southwest against the PDP is the way the party treated the people of the zone during the Jonathan administration of 2009 to 2015. The people believe and rightly so, that they had been shortchanged not only in the siling of infrastructural projects in the zone but also in appointments to public offices.

Hardly can one point to any major project started and completed in the Southwest during the rule of Goodluck Jonathan or that of his predecessor, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo. Instead many projects initiated by the two PDP leaders have been abandoned halfway only to be taken over by the Buhari administration. Many of such projects have either been completed by now or nearing completion by the current APC government of President Buhari.

For example, the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway construction was to be done through a concessionary arrangement that flopped. That all-important project very vital to the socio-economic well-being of the Southwesterners has now been taken over by Buhari and is getting near completion stage and more interestingly, this big undertaking is now being executed through direct government funding.

Similarly, one of the busiest roads in Nigeria, the Ibadan/Oyo/Ogbomosho Expressway which was started by the PDP government of Chief  Olusegun Obasanjo was abandoned at Oyo leaving the Oyo/Ogbomosho section uncompleted since the past 16years. It is Buhari government that is now working towards the completion of the project.

One other major project that has continued to gladden the hearts of the Yoruba people is the standard gauge railway project directly linking Lagos with Ibadan, the political Capital of the Southwest. This project was started by Jonathan but nothing was done on it until Buhari came on board. While on a state visit to China, Buhari renegotiated the project with the Chinese authorities. Work is progressing at a high speed right now on the project.

You can just imagine a rail journey from Lagos to Ibadan taking only 30minutes. And what about haulage of goods between the two great metropolis? Why will the Southwest then choose to show ingratitude to a party, APC that is doing much at the same time in the geopolitical zone?

Right now Atiku is dangling the bait of restructuring to the region. But where are the details of his restructuring proposal? Will he do it, can he do it and is it going to be a project that will favour the people in that zone? Atiku came to Ibadan to canvass for the people's support but merely touched the issue of restructuring on the surface. He merely browsed the issue and made no promise to complete ongoing projects that are of immense socio-economic value to the Southwesterners.

Today, Alhaji Atiku's most vociferous backer is Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, a former President who had once declared the PDP candidate as unfit to rule Nigeria because of what he described as his insatiable greed and corruption. But even then, the pertinent question is, does Obasanjo possess the moral or political compass by which he can direct the course of events in Yorubaland?

Only recently, one of the most highly respected leaders of the Yoruba nation, General Alani Akinrinade, former Chief of Defense Staff, took a swipe at Chief Obasanjo and described his call on Southwesterners to vote for Atiku as "an insult to our collective intelligence". He also blamed the media for according the ex-president undue attention, adding that they (the media) owe Nigerians the responsibility of "keeping this irritable man where he belongs – the waste bin of history".

The retired general then advised his comrade-in-arms to "allow Nigerians to choose who they want and stop goading the citizenry for his own selfish interests". Alani Akinrinade has spoken the minds of most Nigerians, especially people of the Southwest. General Akinrinade is seen and regarded as a highly influential and respected leader whose views on any issues are usually taken as representing the collective interests of the Yoruba.

Now, if Atiku thinks he can rely on Obasanjo's support to win Southwest votes, then he has missed the point. He must be living under a great illusion that Obasanjo's political clout in the zone is sufficient enough for him to withstand PMB's rabbit punch in the February 16 election. The Yoruba people have never regarded Obasanjo as a true son of theirs and many PDP leaders and supporters in the zone regard his much-orchestrated support for Atiku as constituting a big albatross on the neck of his former vice.

Reasons, why the duo of Obasanjo and Atiku cannot influence voters in the Southwest, cannot be far-fetched, given the antecedents of the two leaders while holding the highest offices in the land. Neither of the two of them can point to any project or undertaking of significance that can qualify them for the people's support or gratitude.

During Atiku's eight-year vice-presidential tenure, people of the Southwest said they did not see the positive impact of his performance or activities either as a political judgement or as the all-powerful No. 2 man who could influence the establishment of important national projects in the zone. The name "Atiku Abubakar" is heard in Yorubaland only when he comes calling for electoral support and not for the commissioning or laying of the foundation stone of any public or private projects in any area of the zone. He did not even honour the invitation to witness the heavily attended installation ceremony of the incumbent Olubadan of Ibadan Land, Oba.

As for the former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, the Yoruba can never forgive him for the ignoble roles he had played in the affairs of his own people. According to General Alani Akinrinade, through Obasanjo's "clandestine manoeuvres in 1979, he foisted on Nigeria a reluctant Shehu Shagari at the expense of cerebral Obafemi Awolowo". Through the same undemocratic practice, he caused the removal of a popular governor, Senator Rashidi Ladoja from office in 2007.

Though Obasanjo was foisted on Nigeria as President by the military to atone for the great loss suffered by the Yoruba in the aborted June 12, 1993, Presidential Election and the state murder of its winner, Chief M.K.O. Abiola, the main beneficiary of those sordid events, Obasanjo did not for once publicly appreciate the sacrifice made to bring him back to power, fame and world recognition.

For this and many more, including his unfriendly attitude towards the famous Awolowo family, Obasanjo is and will for many years to come to remain a political outcast among the children of Oduduwa.

It is however to the eternal credit of President Muhammadu Buhari that what Obasanjo ungratefully refused to do for his own people in his eight years of misrule, PMB did it in under two years, and that is the official recognition and proclamation of M.K.O. Abiola as the winner of the 1993 Presidential Election! This great and courageous act of patriotism on the part of President Buhari is more than enough to endear him to the hearts of Southwesterners and dismiss the vituperations of Obasanjo as the tantrums of a rejected leader.

By now Atiku should be reminded of the inglorious antecedents of his former boss, his own reputation as a corrupt and ineffectual leader and accept the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari in February 16 Election as a fait-accompli

Sanwo-Olu: I will fight infrastructure battle for Ikorodu

Posted: 01 Feb 2019 03:03 AM PST

APC Rally In Ikorodu
The Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, yesterday promised to fight for infrastructural development in Ikorodu Division, if elected in next month's election.

Besides Igbe and Isawo roads, which his running mate, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, said will be built when the new government is inaugurated in May, the APC flag bearer said he would also build the popular Suleiman-Farouk Road in the heart of the ancient town, as requested by the residents.

Sanwo-Olu said: "I thank all our supporters. Apart from the two roads, which our deputy said will be constructed, we will also construct the Suleiman Road, which you all like. It will be constructed up to Agboyi-Ketu. You have stadia in Ikorodu and Ketu. They will be completed."

Chiding the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for claiming that Lagos was in bondage, the APC candidate said Ikorodu and other parts of the state were enjoying freedom and dividends of democracy under successive progressive administrations.

Alerting them to the challenge of February 16 and March 2 polls, Sanwo-Olu urged them to vote for President Muhammadu Buhari, himself and his running mate as well as other candidates of the party.

The APC candidate spoke when the party's campaign train rolled into Ipadoko, Ikorodu, where the party chairman, Tunde Balogun, gave party flags to Sanwo-Olu, Hamzat and parliamentary candidates – Senator Oluremi Tinubu (Lagos Central), Sikiru Osinnowo (Lagos East), Solomon Adeola (Lagos West), House of Representatives candidate Jimi Benson and House of Assembly candidates Sunai Agunbiade and Tayo Solaja.

Party supporters came from Epe, Isiwo, Ibeshe, Ajowa, Ota-Ikosi, Imota, Ijede, Adamo, Kosofe, Somolu, Ketu, Ikosi, Owode and other towns and villages in Lagos East Senatorial District.

The crowd at the Ikorodu Ferry Jetty Terminal was huge.

The rally, which kicked off around 11.25 a.m, following a prayer by Babatunde Ogele, was orderly.

On stage was ace Fuji musician, King Wasiu Ayinde (aka KI), who was thrilling party supporters to partisan music. Security was tight at the entrance, but party supporters and followers were orderly.

Leaders of ethnic nationalities and many Nollywood actors and actresses, including Remi Surutu, Ayo Adesanya, Taiwo Hassan Ogogo, Mr Shitta-Bey, Madam saje, Lasun Ray and Adewale Eleso, urged Lagosians to reject the PDP at the polls.

Party leaders at the rally included Deputy Governor Idiat Adebule, Lagos East Leader Pa Busura Alebiosu, Senator Tony Adefuye, Chief Lanre Rasak, Chief Akanni Seriki, Southwest APC Women Leader Chief Kemi Nelson, Lagos APC Women Leader Princess Jumoke Okoya-Thomas, former House of Assembly Speaker Joko Pelumi, Chief Sunny Ajose, Chief Funso Ologunde, Ashipa Kaoli Olusanya, Hakeem Bamgbala, party's Secretary Dr. Wale Ahmed, Publicity Secretary Joe Igbokwe, Sanwo-Olu's Campaign Manager Tayo Ayinde, Primate Charles Odugbesi, Tunde Braimoh, Sanwo-Olu's wife, Dr Ibijoke, Mrs. Yetunde Arobieke and a leader of the Arewa community, Farouk Ahmed.
Sanwo-Olu and Hamzat stormed the venue around 1.30 p.m, holding brooms.

Thanking the crowd, Hamzat, who spoke in Yoruba, said: "Ikorodu-Sagamu Road, which had been abandoned by former President Olusegun Obasanjo and PDP for 16 years is being constructed by President Muhammadu Buhari. Ibese and Obafemi Awolowo roads have been constructed. Our candidate, Sanwo-Olu, has asked me to tell you that Igbe and Isawo roads will be constructed. We are not liars. We will fulfil our promises."

Adebule thanked the people of Ikorodu for trooping out for the rally, assuring that Sanwo-Olu will not disappoint them.

She said: "We are here to preach the gospel of our party. What is the gospel of our party? It is a gospel of growth and development. Sanwo-Olu and Hamzat are tested, trusted, reliable and sellable. They are going to continue to do their best in implementing the developmental agenda of the state; the agenda of infrastructural development and education. I thank you in advance as you vote for the APC."

Rasak, the Balogun of Epe, advised the people to vote for APC, using their index finger.

He said improper thumb-printing may lead to cancellation of votes.

Urging Lagosians to reject the PDP at the polls, he said: "Lagos has enjoyed dividends of democracy under the progressive administration for 16 years. For 16 years, the PDP looted the treasury. As military and civilian Head of State, Buhari has done well.

"Obasanjo was President for eight years. There was no road between Abeokuta and Ota; there was no road between Lagos and Ibadan. Buhari is the choice of Nigerians because of his love for the masses. I thank Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who, like Chief Obafemi Awolowo, has worked for the progress of the Southwest and Nigeria. Let us look at the genesis of the APC. Asiwaju Tinubu collaborated with other parties to form the APC. We cannot afford to lag behind. Let Lagos give three million votes for APC during the elections."

Adefuye, who prayed for the success of APC during the elections, described President Buhari and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo (SAN) as blessings to Nigeria, adding that they deserve a second term to consolidate on their achievements.

He said: "Presidential and parliamentary elections are important. Lagosians should vote for President Buhari and other parliamentary candidates of our party. Buhari is a President with a difference. He suspended the Chief Justice for a good reason. Under the PDP, a person, a lady stole $20 billion. Should we vote for PDP for people like that to come back? No!

"I am asking you to vote for Sanwo-Olu. As you vote for Sanwo-Olu, also vote for the House of Assembly candidates. Sanwo-Olu needs them to transform Lagos."

Nelson, the Yeyesewa of Lagos, said: "We are a party of happy people. On February 16, vote for President Buhari and Prof Osinbajo, our son. We should not be put to shame. Buhari cannot work alone. Therefore, you should vote for our senatorial candidates – Osinnowo, Oluremi Tinubu and Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (aka Yayi)."

Aare, a member of the Governorship Advisory Council (GAC), called for bloc votes for the APC presidential, governorship and parliamentary candidates, using the index finger.

Igbokwe, who spoke in Igbo, urged Southeasterners living in Lagos to vote for Sanwo-Olu, assuring that their votes will not be in vain.

Taiwo Hassan (aka Ogogo), the actor, said: "The Noah's Ark is standing. Please, enter with your votes for the APC."

INEC
Rivers and Zamfara states All Progressives Congress (APC) will not be part of the governorship and House of Assembly elections slated for March 2.

The party's candidates' names are missing on the list of those who will run in the elections released last night by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Two weeks ago, the commission also omitted names of APC candidates in the National Assembly final list of candidates.

Seventy-nine of the candidates are women. Many of them are from Kano and Delta states.

The commission resolved the controversy over the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ogun State in favour of Senator Buruji Kashamu. The senator and another party chieftain and House of Representatives member, Ladi Adebutu, were battling for the ticket. INEC said it chose Kashamu based on a court judgment.

The commission also resolved the crisis over the APC governorship candidate in Abia State in favour of Uche Ogah, who battled Chief Ikechi Emenike for the ticket.

For Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu is on the list as the governorship candidate of the APC. The PDP has Mr Jimi Agbaje as its governorship candidate. The two are seen as the major contenders. Some of the governorship candidates in Oyo State are Adebayo Adelabu (APC), Seyi Makinde (PDP) and Adebayo Alao-Akala (ADP).

First-term governors on the list are Umar Ganduje (Kano, APC), Nyesom Wike (PDP, Rivers), Emmanuel Udom (PDP, Akwa Ibom), Ben Ayade (Cross River PDP), Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto PDP), Samuel Ortom (Benue PDP), Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna APC), Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta PDP), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu PDP), Aminu Bello Masari (Katsina APC) and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia PDP).

Others are Dave Umahi (Ebonyi PDP), Sani Bello (Niger APC), Mohammed Abubakar (Bauchi APC), Ishiaku Darius (Taraba PDP), Abubakar Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi APC), Simon Bako Lalong (Plateau APC) and Bindow Jubrilla (Adamawa APC).

Some other candidates who made the list are: Umaru Ahmadu (Adamawa PDP), Nsima Udo Ekere (Akwa Ibom APC), Udom Emmanuel (Akwa Ibom PDP), Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed (Bauchi PDP), Emmanuel Jime (Benue APC), Baba Gana Umara (Borno APC), Mohammed Alkali Imam (Borno PDP),  Owan Enoh John (Cross River APC), Great Ovedje Ogboru (Delta APC), Sunday Oji Ogbuoji (Ebonyi APC), Ayogu Eze (Enugu APC), Mohammed Inuwa Yahaya (Gombe APC), Nafada Usman Bayero (Gombe PDP) and Uzodinma Hope Odidika (Imo APC).

Also on the list are: Ihedioha Emeka (Imo PDP), Mohammed Badaru Abubakar (Jigawa APC), Aminu Ibrahim Ringim (Jigawa PDP), Isa Mohammad Ashiru (Kaduna PDP), Abba Kabir Yusuf (Kano PDP), Garba Yakubu Lado (Katsina PDP), Isa Mohammed Galadu (Kebbi PDP), Abdulrahman Abbulrazaq (Kwara APC), Razak Atunwa (Kwara PDP),  Umar Mohammed Nasko (Niger PDP), Adedapo Abiodun (Ogun APC), Akinlade Adekunle Abdulkabir (Ogun APM), Nwosu Uche (Imo AA) and Jeremiah Timbut Useni (Plateau PDP).

Governorship elections are not holding in Ondo, Ekiti, Bayelsa, Osun, Edo, Kogi and Anambra states.
The APC yesterday faulted INEC over its decision on Zamfara and Rivers. The APC national secretariat accused INEC of double standards in rejecting its candidates in Zamfara State while accepting those presented to it by the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano State.
The party expressed confidence that it would present candidates for all elections in Zamafara and Rivers states, as it complied with the provisions of the law and conducted its primaries in the state.

APC National Publicity Secretary Lanre Issa-Onilu told reporters that INEC was being accused by the PDP of working with APC to rig the elections even as it was denying the APC the opportunity to present candidates, despite its compliance with the provisions of its constitution, which says it could either conduct its primaries through direct, indirect or consensus options.

He said: "We have heard that INEC is relying on the fact that courts of equal jurisdiction have given conflicting judgments. We can understand that. What it does mean is that it is not yet Uhuru and we will continue to take steps.

"We are very certain that we did the right thing and the primaries held and INEC is not satisfied with that and the fact that it is our right to field candidates.

"We will follow all the legal means to ensure that all our candidates stand for election this 2019 in Zamfara. The same situation for Rivers.

"For people who are discerning, this is supposed to be the APC that INEC is accused of working for and this is what we are going through in their hand, even though the PDP has repeatedly claimed that it was out to rig election for APC.

"May I remind all of us that we had primaries in Zamfara, which was affected by conflict. But the process allows for three options. You could go with indirect, you could go with a director you could go for a consensus. We have the right under the constitution to exhaust these options, which we did.

"Let me also add that in Kano, PDP did no primary and did not resort to any of these options. Yet, INEC is not saying anything regarding that and all the candidates submitted by the PDP in Kano were accepted. This is a fact that nobody can deny.

"But we will not go to town to start pillorying INEC because it is a critical institution to the success of the election. We will continue to trust all institutions because we believe that it is by having strong institutions that we can develop this country. When such institutions make mistakes, rather than vilify them, we will work with them and ensure they follow due process."

Reacting to reports by Conference of United Political Parties (CUPP) that President Muhamadu Buhari was not fit and healthy to contest the 2019 election, Issa-Onilu said: "Ordinarily, I should not honour the so-called CUPP with any response because, in the real sense, they don't exist. These are members of the PDP, who are looking for space to team up with Atiku as he has promised so that when they get to power, they continue from where they stopped."

The counsel to the embattled Rivers APC governorship candidate in the state, Tonye Patrick Cole, yesterday at the on-going Appeal Court matter on the disqualification of his client, said INEC should have waited for the Supreme Court before publishing the list.

He said: "INEC cannot release the list of candidates, legally speaking, without the list of APC as submitted by the party.

"As soon as the motion for stay of execution of judgment is served on you, the law is that you do not do anything between the period you are served with that motion, till the period that motion is disposed of, one way or the other.

"INEC has very seasoned lawyers who are not just in their legal team, but also federal commissioners, and I know that they will do the needful and INEC will not do anything until the application for stay is determined somehow."
