All Women are urged to give children quality upbringing

Posted: 01 Apr 2019 01:00 AM PDT

Black mother and child
The wife of Vicar and President Holy Cross Anglican Church, Wuye, Abuja, Mrs Funmilayo Taiwo, on Sunday urged Nigerian women to give their children quality upbringing that would guarantee their future rest.

Taiwo, on the occasion of 2019 Mothers Day, implored women that better upbringing is the only investment and surety that parents can bequeath their children.

She explained that good children's upbringing would yield better and unimaginable reward for mothers in their old age.

She described Mothers Sunday as one of the favorite festivals of the year coming as it does half way through Lent.
The lovely flowers given each year to Mums in church brings a welcome splash of colors.

But it is also good to reflect on the wider meaning of Mothering, which the Cambridge Dictionary defines as the process of caring for children as their mother, or of caring for people as a mother does.

While acknowledging the very special relationship between a mother and her child, it embraces today's reality, where the lead care could equally be a single father, a grandparent, or someone in the wider family or community.

It is vitally important to celebrate them all, as they help ensure that every child can grow up in a loving and supportive environment, she explained.

According to her, there is a saying in Africa, it takes a village to raise a child. It is reality that in every family there are people who have died for one reasons or the other.

We cannot just leave their children. We should bring them into our families, our extended families, all have both biological children and children that we have welcomed in.

On the usefulness of good parenting on the society, she advised women to be resourceful, modesty, live exemplary lives and be teachers to every child around.

Taiwo said the definition of a mother goes beyond the caring for children to caring for people as a mother does as well.

It is so important, on Mothers Sunday, that people should take time to celebrate and thank all mothers, who work in ways great and small to help others.

The Preacher at the service, Mrs Anichukwu Chibuzor, urged mothers to spend their quality time in raising their children, adding that the duty of raising a child is beyond house help and relatives contributions.

Chibuzor said taking care of children would pass down the needed noble character that would show forth the light of God to the world.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Mothering Sunday falls on the fourth Sunday in Lent, exactly three weeks before Easter Day.

It is observed as a day where people visit and pray for their mother with a view to honouring them and giving them presents.

Seun Ajayi has opened up on his role as ‘Dayo’ in the TV sitcom, ‘Hustle.’

Posted: 01 Apr 2019 12:30 AM PDT

Seun Ajayi
Speaking to Pulse in a brief chat, Ajayi said his character takes a whole lot from him.

"For the character of Dayo, a lot had to go into it, I had to find my naivety every time because that is who the character is and a lot of people are surprised that when they meet and interact with me, I am not like that in person," Ajayi told Pulse.

On the fame that has come with his performance in the sitcom, Ajayi said, "When I started, I had no idea it would be this big, but the first few weeks after the transmission, it caught fire and after the first season, they had a rerun and the sitcom was on fire and then they wanted a new season."

Ajayi also revealed that before he landed the role in 'Hustle,' he had become weary having auditioned for a TV show without positive response.

He said, "Hustle is a gift, it came at a time when I was weary and I mean tired because I have worked in the industry for a while and I really wanted to do long term TV and I was actually auditioning for another TV show, got an offer from the producers and they never contacted me again. So, Hustle came as a panacea, and after that, playing the role over and over again, the reward has definitely been the feedback from the fans. Kids in school buses, people in church, on the street, okadamen, bus drivers and the sheer appreciation remains the reward for me."

Ajayi also featured in Mildred Okwo's 'Suru Lere,' which also featured Rita Dominic and 'Ojukokoro'.

Simi has tendered an unreserved apology for her line about tribal marks in her #fuckyouchallenge cover

Posted: 31 Mar 2019 10:00 PM PDT

Simi
Simi has tendered an unreserved apology to everyone who felt insulted about the line on tribal marks in her #fuckyouchallenge cover.

In the lyric, Simi said in Yoruba language, "do you think I have tribal marks?'' which many people take to mean "Do you think I am stupid.?"

That line of the lyric was deemed offensive by a number of people online including model Adetutu OJ. The model who went viral last October after getting the attention of pop star Rihanna took to her Instagram page to question Simi if she was trying to say people with tribal marks are stupid.

She said, 'I have tribal marks and I really do appreciate it now because it's my tribal marks and a lifetime heritage. Listening to @symplysimi

#fuckyouchallenge reminds me of what I have been hearing since I was wise enough to know when people are passing insults to people with tribal marks.

Mostly said by some of my Yoruba people, "Se mo kola ni'' means do I look like an idiot or stupid?

People with tribal marks are not daft or stupid. I don't care if they have been saying it for long, but it's not a right thing to say'.

Reacting to the backlash, Simi has taken to her Instagram page to apologize for using that line in the lyrics. She said she thought about it and decided to apologise and take down the post on her social media page.

She wrote: 'Guys, I had to bring down my post cos I used the line 'O ro bi mo kola ni' (Do you think I have tribal marks)- which people mean to say 'Am I stupid'

It's an old Yoruba joke, but I never acknowledged how insensitive it is. It offended some and I shouldn't have used it. Lots of unlearning to do. We should remember to be sensitive and empathetic to others.

Also, I know the video is all over the place already, but it's a step in the right direction and I apologise to anyone that was/is offended by it. I only ever mean well.

Also, if you think this is extra, it is part of the problem, always letting BS go is how we build the wrong cultures that become hard to shake off'.

You'll recall that earlier in the year, Simi tied the knot with Adekunle Gold and both singers released a single titled 'Promise' to further express their love and affection for each other.

BBC, Voice Of America Banished From Burundi For Spreading 'Fake News'

Posted: 31 Mar 2019 04:24 PM PDT

The country of Burundi has ban the BBC and the Voice of America from the country for alleged broadcasting of 'Fake News'

See full report bellow;
The country's media regulator accused the BBC of broadcasting content which "put national cohesion and reconciliation at stake" while charging VOA with employing an opposition figure wanted in connection with violence that preceded a May 2015 coup attempt.

The landlocked Central African country of Burundi has banned the BBC and indefinitely suspended the Voice of America*, accusing the international UK and US outlets of spreading "lies" and disinformation.

In a statement put out on Friday, Burundi's media regulator said it revoked the British Broadcasting Corporation's license over a lack of "proper measures" taken following the airing of a documentary which authorities said contained falsehoods, including allegations that members of the intelligence services engaged in the detention and torture of dissidents.

Meanwhile, Voice of America saw its license pulled over its employment of Patrick Nduwimana, a radio journalist suspected of involvement in a failed coup attempt against President Pierre Nkurunziza in May 2015.

Both the BBC and the VOA already received six-month suspensions last May ahead of a constitutional referendum seeking to allow for the extension of Nkurunziza's term in office by two terms.
The BBC blasted the Burundian government's "unwarranted decision" against itself and the VOA, saying that the move "strikes a serious blow against media freedom."

VOA director Amanda Bennett said the US government-funded broadcaster was "alarmed that reporters in Burundi are now forbidden to communicate with VOA," and echoed the BBC's sentiment that "these continuing threats to our journalists undermine press freedom in the country."

Both the BBC and VOA continue to broadcast into Burundi using shortwave frequencies which can be picked up by ordinary radios.

Speaking to VOA by phone, Willy Nyamitwe, a senior advisor to President Nkurunziza, said the media outlets were banned for spreading 'fake news'.

"Some international media are biased. Everybody knows some reports were fake reports, fake news," he said. "So if people cannot even try to speak the truth…if some people are using some media outlets only to spread lies, what other comments do I have to do?" he asked.
Nyamitwe stressed that the country has "thousands of journalists" and dozens of "media houses, radio stations, TV stations, newspapers, media online" which continue to operate freely.

Hundreds of thousands of Burundians were have been displaced and up to 1,200 killed in clashes with security forces between 2015 and 2017. In May 2015, rebel officer Godefroid Niyombare announced in a radio broadcast that President Nkurunziza and his government had been "dismissed" while the president was on a visit to Tanzania. The announcement led to heavy street fighting for control of state and private broadcasters, with five independent news agencies said to have been completely or partially shuttered in the aftermath of the violence.

Last May, Burundians overwhelmingly approved changes to the country's constitution to approve Nkurunziza running for up to two more additional terms as president. The US and the EU dismissed the vote, alleging that it was marred by 'intimidation, repression and violence' against the opposition.

Davido never misses an opportunity to call Chioma his wife. Is there something they are not telling us?

Davido has been in the U.S. on media rounds and shows.

His post below:

The mention of Davido and Chioma is beginning to resonate like Romeo and Juliet, at least in Nigeria, where the lovebirds have dominated the scene with their romantic, fairytale love story.

The song, 'Assurance', is one of the singer's most successful songs ever and one could trace the source of that success no farther than the beautiful girl, the Omo Baba Olowo has described as the 'best thing to have happened to me'

'Legbegbe' Crooner Mr Real said he's not out for a one-hit wonder

Mr Real
Okafor Uchenna Victor, popularly known as Mr Real has rebuffed the claims in some quarters he is a one-hit wonder after he has refused to convince his fans with another hit after his 2017 song Legbegbe.

In a chat with The Punch, he however stated that he has so much to offer the music industry and the most important thing is to remain relevant.

He stated,

"Anyone who thinks I'm a one-hit wonder is not God because I know what I have and I believe in myself. If you always expect your next song to be bigger than the last, you may not release songs again.

2Baba has released many great songs but none is bigger than African Queen. As artistes, we just have to continue doing our best. It is only God who makes hit songs. For me, I think the most important thing is to remain relevant."

See Why We’re In Support Of Gbajabiamila For Speaker Of House – PDP Lawmakers

Posted: 31 Mar 2019 12:57 PM PDT

House Of Reps Chambers

Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, an All Progressives Congress, APC lawmaker in the green chambers of the House of Representatives, who is seeking to become the Speaker of the house, has received support from two House of Representatives members-elect of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Wole Oke representing Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency of Osun State and Jerry Alagbaso representing Orlu /Oru East /Orsu Federal Constituency of Imo State said Mr Gbajabiamila was their preferred candidate, Premium Times reports.

They spoke during an official declaration by Mr Gbajabiamila in Abuja on Sunday.

First to speak was Mr Oke. He described Mr Gbajabiamila as the most qualified for the position.

"Gbajabiamila has been to my house twice to tell me of his ambition. He has honoured me and as a very cultured person, I also have to honour him by attending his declaration.

"When you talk about national interest and issues, I can't see anybody in the house that is more qualified than Femi Gbajabiamila.
"He's a lawyer by profession, he understands the house rules, the constitution and can interpret the rules. Asides that, he is a fair-minded person.

"We from the South-west, we are giving you one of our best. I speak here as honourable Wole Oke and honestly, I'll be with him all through," he said.

Mr Alagbaso wants the House Leader to carry the opposition along in his bid to become speaker.

He was particular about the interest of the South-east and South-south.

"My dear brother, Femi, is no doubt the most qualified to lead us but he requires consultation. He needs to come and see elders like us.

"After this declaration, we need to see because I have to protect the interest of the Southeast and Southsouth," he said.

The position of these two lawmakers may not be in tandem with the interest of their party.

Recently, the PDP said its members are allowed constitutionally to contest for leadership positions in the National Assembly.

The party, which has fewer members-elect than the APC, said it could sponsor lawmakers for positions if need be.

Already, about a dozen of the APC members-elect have declared interests in becoming speaker.

Man Jumps To Death From Bank’s Mast In Ibadan, Throwing City Into Confusion

Posted: 31 Mar 2019 12:36 PM PDT

The town of Sango in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital on Saturday was thrown into confusion, when a yet-to-be identified middle-aged man climbed a mast of one of the banks in the ancient city to commit suicide.

The man, who was said to have a mental condition, on Sunday jumped to his death from Wema Bank's network mast in the Sango area of Ibadan to take his life, Daily Post reports.

Though there are reports that the deceased was mentally stable, but no one is yet to ascertain what prompted him to commit suicide by killing himself in that manner.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), of the State police command, Mr. Olugbenga Fadeyi, while confirming the incident, said that the man, who stripped himself naked before climbing the mast, entered the bank through its small gate.

He, however, informed that the corpse has been deposited at the morgue of the Adeoyo Hospital in Ibadan.

Fadeyi further stated that efforts were ongoing to know the true identity of the deceased.

He said, "The naked man came to the bank's branch in Sango and entered the building through its small gate.

"It was after he gained entrance into the bank's premises that he climbed the bank's mast before the security personnel became aware of his action.

"He had already climbed the mast to its peak, before they alerted the police, but before anything could be done, though the police responded immediately, the victim had jumped down to the roof of the bank.

"The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and Fire Service personnel, who arrived the scene of the incident, swung into action to save the man's life, but the impact was so much that he crashed through the roof and fell inside the bank. An official of the bank was called in to open the premises.

And they include: Ahoada East, Bonny, Akuku-Toru, Obio-Akpor, Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni, Omuma, Port Harcourt, Ikwerre, Emohua, Tai, Opobo-Nkoro, Andoni ,Eleme, Etche, Ogu–Bolo, Oyigbo, Okrika.

INEC also named Adoada West, Asari Toru, Degema, Abua Odual, Khana and Gokana as the remaining six local government areas where the commission is expected to commence collation of electoral results.

The INEC Administrative Secretary in Rivers State, Elder Etim Umoh, who made the revelation at the stakeholders meeting in Port Harcourt noted that election did not hold in Abua-Odual Local Government area while the process will be concluded in the other five LGAs, Daily Post reports.

National Commissioner Supervising Bayelsa, Edo, and Rivers State, May Agbamuche-Mbu, in her address, advised stakeholders including traditional rulers, religious leaders, political leaders and youths to allow peace to reign before, during and after the conclusion of the collations of the Governorship and State House of Assembly elections.

Agbamuche-Mbu, at the stakeholders meeting held around Eastern By-Pass, Port Harcourt, said the meeting is aimed at providing the people with the opportunity to understand the regulations and guidelines for the conduct the suspended elections and collations of results.

In his remarks, the Chairman, Inter-Agency Consultative Security Committee, Usman Belel, who is the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, harped on the need for stakeholders to allow peace to reign just as he reiterated the command's resolve to ensure there's no violence in the forthcoming supplementary elections and collations of results.

DAILY POST reports that a little drama ensued when the Governorship Candidate of Advance Peoples Democratic Alliance, APDA, Isreal Warigbani demanded to know if INEC was aware of several litigations against it, but was shouted down.

Warigbani stormed out of the meeting and spoke with newsmen outside the venue.

On his part, the Governorship Candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, Biokpomoma Awara demanded to know how INEC arrived at the resolution on the seventeen and six affected Local government areas.

"When the administrative secretary was presenting his report he said the election was suspended because violence and I want to ask that at what point the election became violence-free that INEC was now able to conclude collation in the 17 Local government areas. What is INEC not telling us," Awara queried.

Meanwhile, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission to ensure that the Nigeria Army does not participate in the conclusion of the electoral process in the state.

The Governor, while advising the INEC to take note of some of the issues raised at the meeting especially the issue of litigations, also dismissed reports that Rivers State is characterized with violence, but claimed that the Federal government is merely interested in the resources of the state which is the major cause of violence.

"The only way you can have peaceful election is when the security agencies refuse to manipulate the elections. The Army snatched results and when the people resisted them, the Army killed them. The violence was at the point of Collation.

"Throughout my political career, I have never seen the kind of role , the Army played. What has happened to the Police Officer indicted for manhandling of INEC Staff during the rerun in 2016. The same officer played negative roles in this last elections ".

INEC Residents Electoral Commissioner in Rivers state, Obo Efanga was not in attendance, just as Accord Party, Social Democratic Party and Labour Party were also not present at the meeting.

Senators Treated Like School Pupils By Oshiomhole – Senator-elect claims

Posted: 31 Mar 2019 07:32 AM PDT

Comrade Adams Oshiomhole

Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has been accused by Senator-elect for Osun East Senatorial District, Chief Francis Fadahunsi, of treating senators like school pupils.

The Senator-elect, in a statement signed and issued during the weekend by his media aide, Sam Segun-Progress, berated Oshiomhole over his endorsement of Senator Ahmed Lawan as the next Senate President.

Fadahunsi added that Oshiomhole's posture to senators elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, is like that of a school teacher giving out instructions to his pupils.

The lawmaker, who was elected to the Senate last month on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, warned that Senator Lawan may at the end be seen as a stooge of the executive with the way the party is going by his adoption.

The statement reads in part: "What is the business of the executive with the election of principal officers of the National Assembly? The way the party is going about it is exposing Senator Lawan.

"The action of the National Chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomhole, is like that of a headmaster giving instructions to his pupils.

"The APC ought to be discreet with its lobbying, not grandstanding about imposing an anointed candidate on Senators. This is because the party is exposing Senator Lawan to the danger of being viewed and labelled as a stooge of the executive."
