Kanye West ‘wants’ to start his own Church after 50,000 people attended his Sunday Service

Posted: 26 Apr 2019 11:30 PM PDT

Kanye West
After thousands of people attended Kanye West's Sunday Service during Coachella's second weekend, the rapper is now said to be considering starting his own church.

A source close to West told PEOPLE: "He is extremely passionate about his faith and wants to share it more regularly with people. He spends a lot of time studying and praying, and wants to share his journey."

The source went on to explain, "Say what you want about Kanye, but he really does want to help people who need support. He understands brokenness and the need for healing, probably more than most people. He believes in the healing powers of music, but also believes that God can step in and heal people's brokenness and their issues."

The insider said West has "talked about starting his own church, and what exactly that would be," adding, "It wouldn't be the traditional, 3-hymns-and-a-sermon thing. Instead, it would be a way to point people to Jesus through the arts and through a community of people who love and care for each other. He also wants his kids to be raised in faith, and the best way for him to do that is to live out his faith."

This comes after Coachella production sources told TMZ that 50,000 festival-goers woke up early to see West on Easter Sunday.

The services attracted plenty of celebrities, including West's wife, Kim Kardashian West and her sisters Khloe Kardashian, Kourtney Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, and Kendall Jenner. Kylie's boyfriend, rapperTravis Scott, was there.

Other A-listers in attendance included DMX, Lizzo, Donald Glover, Teyana Taylor, 2 Chainz, Kid Cudi and Chance the Rapper.

Actress Tonto Dikeh exposes Nollywood actresses, says they share men, clothes
Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh is set to stir a new controversy by saying Nollywood actresses share the same men, clothes and movies.

It was not clear whether the 33-year old actress was quoted out of context as what was shown was a teaser from an interview she granted PlusTVAfrica, which will be shown on Startimes Channel 308 on Friday at 12.30pm.

She was reacting to a question about rivalry trends in Nigeria's movie industry.

"We are all fighting for the same thing. It's a circle, we share the same men, the same clothes, the same movies, the same things, so it's a circle… Why would you want to be friends with someone who wants to take your life?"Tonto said.

Tonto said in the teaser that the intense rivalry springs from the fact that actors in the Nigerian movie industry compete for the same goal.

Akin Alabi – Man who rejected house offer from his boss for borehole was unwise

Posted: 26 Apr 2019 10:00 PM PDT

Akin Alabi
Social media was recent abuzz with the news of a gateman who exhibited an unusual act of selflessness by rejecting a house gift from his boss, and instead requesting for a borehole to be built in his community.

Nigerian man identified as Musa Usman, was planning to resign from his job and spend time with his family, after 25 years of service to his Indian boss. In appreciation of Usman, the boss, Mr Verghese, decided to build a house for him, to which he (Usman) rejected and requested for a community borehole in his village, because his people had to occasionally make long distance trips in search of clean water.

After the news broke on social media, members of the online community reacted with mixed reactions. Among those that expressed reservation against the gateman's decision is House of Rep elect for Egbeda/Ona Ara federal constituency, Ibadan, Oloye Akin Alabi.

Alabi expressed that even though Usman's decision was truly selfless; it was not a wise one. According to him, he would have been able to do the greater good if he collected the house, sell it off and install multiple boreholes in the community. He said: "Selfless decision but not very wise. Collect the house, sell it and sink multiple boreholes." See his tweet below:

President Buhari commends African Development Bank's transformative role

Posted: 26 Apr 2019 08:51 AM PDT

African Development Bank
The President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari commended the Bank for its successes and pledged Nigeria's continuous support for the institution.

"I want to recognize the support that the African Development Bank has given Nigeria in recent times. I remember the Bank's critical gesture in 2016 during the difficult period of economic recession through a US$600 million budget support facility. We appreciate this and assure you that we will continue to work towards a diversified Nigeria," President Buhari, said at the meeting with Bank President, Akinwumi Adesina, which was attended by some of the country's Ministers and senior government officials.

President Buhari commended the Bank's interventions in infrastructure and agriculture and encouraged the institution to keep supporting countries like Nigeria to grow agriculture as a business through the promotion of agro-industrial zones in the country.

African Development Bank President Akinwumi Adesina thanked President Buhari for his support to the Bank and pledged the Bank's commitment to fast track Africa's development.

Adesina also highlighted several reforms at the Bank and strategic efforts to move the Bank's operations closer to countries.

"The African Development Bank's robust operations in Nigeria have had significant results and impacts on the ground, and continue to accelerate the country's economic transformation as well as improve the lives of millions."

At the end of March 2019, the Bank's active portfolio in Nigeria comprises 60 operations with total commitments of US$4.5 billion. These include 28 public sector operations with total commitments of US$1.7 billion (21 national and 7 regional); 34 non-sovereign operations with total commitments of US$2.8 billion.

Following Nigeria's request to the African Development Bank, Adesina reported that the United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, has accepted to co-chair a multi-billion fund-raising session to revive the Lake Chad – a strategic effort that has major climate, economic, agricultural and employment implications for the region.

Lagos Assembly may pass 2019 budget today

Posted: 26 Apr 2019 07:04 AM PDT

The Lagos State 2019 budget may be passed today, Friday, at plenary by the State Assembly.

According to the Order Paper for today's plenary, presentation of the 2019 Appropriation Bill is the last item slated for Business of the day.

The notice of today's plenary and the order paper to lawmakers states: "Distinguished colleagues, Please, be reminded that there shall be plenary tomorrow Friday 26th April 2019 at 10.00 a.m.

Business of the Day………." B.  Presentation of Reports. (i)      HAB NO. 59.*Public Procurement Agency (Amendment) Bill, 2018.*"A Bill for a Law to Amend Lagos State Public Procurement Agency Law CH.L.56 VOL.6 Laws of Lagos State and for Connected Purposes." Hon. Ogundimu O. (Agege II), Chairman, Committee on Finance; (ii)     HAB NO. 66. *Appropriation Bill, 2019.*

"A  Bill for a Law to authorize the issue and appropriation of N389,560,227,242 from the Consolidated Revenue Fund for Recurrent Expenditure and N462,756,709,241 from Development Revenue Fund for Capital Expenditure, thereby totalling a Budget size of N852,316,936,483 approximately N852.317 Billion for the year ending 31st December 2019." – Hon. (Engr.) Yishawu G.O.R. (Eti-Osa II) – Chairman, Committee on Economic Planning and Budget.

After the presentation, sources at the Assembly say as is the usual practice; the House would take the third reading of the Bill and pass it immediately for the governor's assent.

It would be recalled that the House committee on appropriation laid the report on the budget before the House about two weeks ago after the initial controversy surrounding the readiness of the executive to present the budget to the legislature and the lack of willingness by the legislators to receive the budget because of supposed infractions by the executive.

An issue that was later resolved by the leadership of the party before Governor Ambode eventually laid the budget before the House in February.

This is the first time that Lagos State is experiencing this kind of delayed passage of budget.

Usually, the state budget is always passed by the last week of December of the outing financial year or latest first week of the new financial year.

The late passage of the appropriation bill has been attributed to the slow down and in some cases outright stoppage of on-going projects in the state as well as the lack of repairs on most roads which has worsened the traffic situation in the state for some months now.

Political observers have attributed this unusual delay in the passage of this year's budget to unnecessary friction between the executive and legislative arms of government.

Talk about where two elephants fight it is the grass that suffers, that has exactly been the plight of Lagosians these past few months as they have borne the brunt of the late passage of the bill as they have been subjected to untold hardship all this while.

While funds have also not been made available for the smooth running of government activities as the budget cannot become fully operational for funds to be released until it is passed into law.

It is hoped that if the budget is passed today government activities might pick up again in the remaining four weeks of the lifespan of the current administration and would also ease things up for the coming administration.

Bold Pink mocks Actor IK Ogbonna after 7-day ultimatum expired
Controversial social media user Bold Pink wasted no time in a new insta-story post to mock IK Ogbonna, as his 7-day ultimatum and a notice of a follow up lawsuit ended today.

Recall that in a lawsuit notice IK Ogbonna shared on his Instagram page, the Nollywood actor told the Instagram troll to apologize and retract her comment of him being gay or face a possible lawsuit in 7 days. He wrote as he shared a photo of the lawsuit notice;

A free platform created for promotion and marketing has given people cheap voices to speak cheaply about people's hard earned integrity. Most of those who wants us to come out with "who we truly are"…as they claim, have themselves nothing to show to anyone.

The noises are mostly made and heard from the empty barrels. We give attention to what is of value not what takes our attention from what is of no value. And very soon, society must weed out the tares that prevent the wheat from standing out." If u come with allegations pls come out of the closet with prove to ur allegation.

However Bold Pink mocked IK Ogbonna on Instagram today, as his 7-day ultimatum for an apology and retraction ended.

She wrote; "7 Days Don Finish Na , Lmao . OLD SOLDIER DON RETIRE"

Fayemi, Oni: What next after Supreme Court verdict?

Posted: 26 Apr 2019 05:44 AM PDT

Segun Oni and Kayode Fayemi
The Supreme Court has delivered its judgement on the eligibility suit filed by former Ekiti State Governor Segun Oni against Governor Kayode Fayemi. In this peice, a commentator, Imman Nye, urges the two leaders to focus attention on reconciliation and harmony in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the state.

Penultimate Wednesday, April 17, 2019, the Supreme Court brought to an end the long search for electoral redemption by Engr. Segun Oni, a former governor of Ekiti State in his bid to assert himself as a candidate in the last governorship election in the state.

Following his defeat in the party primary election, the former governor had shifted in between congratulating Dr Kayode Fayemi who emerged the clear winner and exploring legalistic loopholes to claim the top prize that he did not get during the voting.

His resort to the courts was in the consideration of many who know him, not wholly the decision of the former governor. The belief remains that some of his associates either supported the decision to go to court or were prevailed upon by some political chieftains bent on torpedoing the Ekiti renaissance as championed by the Kayode administration.

Oni had following his failure to get a reprieve at the lower courts approached the apex court to invalidate the emergence of Dr Kayode Fayemi as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the governorship election that took place last year.

The resolution of the case should ordinarily provide a stimulus for total reconciliation by all tendencies within the APC. Even more, it should be the anchor for stakeholders within and outside the state to latch on to towards giving momentum to the enterprising programmes of the incumbent administration led by Dr Fayemi.

But whether Oni and his associates would grab that opportunity or not is another question.

That internal party dispute over the candidature of the APC in the governorship election had to the surprise of many, including associates of Oni, continued even after the party concluded its primaries. Oni was one of about 30 aspirants who contended for the ticket of the party.

The former governor who was deputy national chairman of the party was undoubtedly the highest political party office holder from the state in the APC just before the election. A former member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the party on whose platform he served as governor before his 2007 election was invalidated in 2010, his tentacles in the APC were even to the admission of his core supporters, largely superficial. He had crossed over to the Progressives Camp following the implosion that hit the PDP in the period leading to the 2015 General Election.

Irrespective of the political differences he had with people both in the PDP and in the APC, Engr. Oni has at almost every time come out as a gentleman. His moral compass on financial matters is a testimony that has often enchanted political folklore.

Gentle speaking yet assertive in his missions, it was not difficult finding common interests with other chieftains of the APC after he defected to the newly registered party in 2014 alongside other members of the New Peoples Democratic Party, nPDP.

His pursuit of redress to the apex court may well be considered in some quarters as part of his natural gravitation towards rectitude in the political space. It is also remarkable that while the court arbitration lasted that Governor Fayemi did not begrudge him, use the instrument of the state to molest him or intimidate him as some others in his position would have done.

Such examples of tolerance especially within political parties is commendable and the example in Ekiti State should be demonstrated for the enlightenment of political operators who do not brook nonsense or opposition from fellow stakeholders.

However, as the courts ruled severally, Oni may have unusually erred in his summation of the propriety of the election that set Dr Fayemi as governor.

It is on the basis of this that the former governor and his associates appear to be limited in their options. The easiest option he may have should be to join the new administration in Ekiti towards restoring the dignity of the people of the state after four years of rapacious rule of the commonwealth by the preceding administration.

Engr. Oni's capacity is definitely not in doubt. It behooves him and all major stakeholders in the state to work towards the kind of political stability that would enable the incumbent administration to achieve its set goals.

Besides the now concluded case involving Oni and the governor, Dr Fayemi is also being challenged by his main challenger in the governorship election, Prof. Olusola Eleka, the candidate of the PDP in the election.

Fayemi emerged triumphant in the two judgments given at the tribunal and the court of appeal. Expectedly, the PDP has filed an appeal to the Supreme Court where stakeholders are calmly waiting to check off the opposition.

The calm that engulfs the governor's camp in respect of the claims by his opponent, Eleka is understandable. Fayemi believes he won the election and has a template to punch away whatever allegations are raised against him.

While it is doubtful that reason be put forward to the ultimate godfather of the PDP candidate for him to step down the case, confident associates of the governor are themselves anxious for the case to be settled on its merit to the purpose of bringing enlightenment to all political stakeholders as to the clear victory of Dr. Fayemi in the election.

With the case settled and out of the way, the nation would then, again and again, observe without the present distractions the unfolding renaissance in Ekiti.

Shell: Nigeria requires $200b to bridge energy gap

Posted: 26 Apr 2019 05:21 AM PDT

Shell
Shell Nigeria Exploration & Production Co (SNEPCo) Managing Director (MD) Bayo Ojulari has said between $40 billion and $200 billion Nigeria needs to bridge its energy gap.

He said a nation without a secured energy system could not claim to have power.

In his presentation titled: "Nigeria's energy security and sustainable development in Nigeria: The way forward", at the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Oloibiri Lecture Series and Energy Forum 2019 in Abuja, Ojulari lamented that 70 per cent of the country's installed electricity capacity is lost without reaching consumers.

According to him, because of ageing equipment and vandalism, 70 per cent of the populace has less than four hours of electricity daily.

He said: "Energy is not standing alone, it is about its impact on the society."

Ojulari said in the next 10 years,  energy demand is expected to double, adding that by 2050, solar could emerge as the dominant power energy source. But oil and gas need would continue."
Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Group Managing Director Dr Maikanti Baru said despite abundant oil and gas reserves, the country still experiences shortages in electric power.

According to him, based on Nigeria's Energy consumption current forecast, statistics showed an increase from 6GW in 2015 to 30GW by 2025. The primary source of the current power supply, he added, is hydro and gas.

Baru insisted that the future consumption, which is expected to drive growth by 2025, would need aggressive development of gas and renewable projects to meet the exponential demand.

EFCC
Operatives from the Ibadan Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday arrested no fewer than 32 suspected Internet fraudsters, popularly called 'yahoo-yahoo boys.

During the operation, six posh cars, laptops, phones, documents containing false information and fetish objects were recovered from the suspects.

The suspects aged between 15 and 39, were nabbed at Liberty Estate, Laderin, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, during an early morning operation by men of the commission.

The suspects were taken by surprise when the EFCC operatives swooped on them at their hideout due to the timing.
Fourteen of the suspects claimed to be undergraduates, while 18 others said they are self-employed.

The arrest followed a petition detailing their alleged fraudulent activities, including Internet fraud through which they obtained money from their victims.

EFCC spokesman Tony Orilade said the suspects were already helping the operatives with useful information, adding that "they will be arraigned after investigation."

Deputy governor-elect pledges commitment to less privileged

Posted: 26 Apr 2019 04:25 AM PDT

Noimot Salako Oyedele
OGUN State Deputy Governor-elect, Mrs Noimot Salako-Oyedele has assured the less-privileged of better days ahead.

She stated this when she paid a visit to the lepers' colony in Iberekodo and the Gideon Orphanage and Home for the aged at Asero, Abeokuta.

Accompanied by the wife of the governor-elect, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, Mrs Salako-Oyedele said the visit, which was to celebrate Easter with them, was also a gesture towards showing the  goodwill of Prince Dapo Abiodun to the physically challenged and people with special needs.

Mrs Salako-Oyedele said the incoming administration will make adequate provisions for these.

She reiterated the plan to make education free from Primary to Junior secondary levels, saying this would be of benefit to the less privileged.

She told reporters after they made donations to the management of the home that the incoming government would look into some of the challenges they had raised, such as increasing their N10,000 monthly  stipends, scholarships and bursary for their children and wards who gained admission into higher institutions.

Buhari never disobeyed court orders as military ruler, says Falana

Posted: 26 Apr 2019 04:06 AM PDT

Femi Falana
ACTIVIST-LAWYER Femi Falana (SAN) said yesterday that President Muhammadu Buhari always obeyed court orders during his tenure as Head of State from December 31, 1983, to August 27, 1985.

Falana wondered why in a democracy, the Buhari-led Federal Government has not shown enough respect for judicial decisions.

The human rights lawyer said he would write to the Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr Abubakar Malami (SAN), to find out why.

Falana spoke in Lagos during a public lecture on the 30th anniversary of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR).

The lecture, with the theme: "Chronicling the struggle, identifying the way forward," was delivered by a professor of International Law and Jurisprudence, Akin Oyebode, while Prof. Julius Ihonvbere  was the keynote speaker.

Falana, the Chairman of the CDHR Board of Trustees, noted that respect for human rights in the country had appreciated in the last 30 years.

CDHR, he explained, started in 1989 in the living room of the late Dr. Beko Ransome-Kuti, where activists gathered to strategies for the release of Femi Aborisade, who was then detained by the military junta.

"Thirty years ago, it would have been impossible to assemble to discuss human rights in our country. Notwithstanding that we are currently having what you might call rickety democracy, there are gains, all the struggles of over 30 years, that we must celebrate today," Falana said.

The lawyer, however, said he was worried about how court orders were being disobeyed by the Federal Government.

He said: "I just remember this morning trying to write a letter to the Attorney-General of the Federation and I find, very painfully, that whereas the Buhari/Idiagbon regime complied with all court orders for the release of those who were held illegally under the state security detention of person Decree No 2 of 1984, we cannot say the same today under a democratic government.

"If you get a copy of Gani Fawehinmi's book on Nigerian law on habeas corpus, all the judgments of our courts during the military dictatorship of Gowon up to the Buhari/Idiagbon regime, all the cases are documented in that book; not on a single occasion did the military regimes detain anybody who had been ordered to be released by the court. They could manipulate; they could filibuster, but ultimately they got everybody released."

In his lecture, Oyebode criticised the 1999 Constitution, which he said lacked legitimacy because the Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar regime did not call for the input of the citizens.

Oyebode said: "The general contempt held by the dictators everywhere for the people informed the attitude of the junta towards the right of the Nigerian people to partake in the making of the most important law governing their lives."

The don said that for Nigeria to become a liberal democratic society, the people must be ready to put the government on its toes "so that an end is speedily brought to impunity."

CDHR National President Malachy Ugwummadu described the organisation's journey in the last 30 years as "eventful; a mix bag but clearly with huge prospects and possibilities of fulfilment."
