This Is How We Achieved Success At CBN — Godwin Emefiele

Posted: 25 May 2019 03:36 PM PDT

Dr Godwin Emefiele

Dr Godwin Emefiele, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has attributed the success story recorded by the banks in recent times to the adoption of heterodox macroeconomic policies.

The CBN henchman, revealed this at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, on Friday, where he presented a paper entitled: Up Against The Tide: Nigeria's Heterodox Monetary Policy And The Bretton Woods Consensus, during the distinguished leadership lecture series put together by the University of Ibadan.

Emefiele  held the view, that the favourable outcomes and strengthening outlook of the Nigeria economy is traceable to the timeous adoption of non-traditional policy methods.

"Within the CBN, our unconventional methods especially in the management of the FX market and our development financing supported by the orthodox approaches in form of timely adjustments of monetary policy rate have been able to optimally balance the delicate objectives of price stability and real output growth."

The Governor, added that the bank would continue to develop policy instruments and device ways of ensuring that an optimal mix of heterodox policies is continually deployed to engender the overall well-being and prosperity of the Nigerian economy, The Tribune reports.

Emefiele further stated that: "Our overall aim remains the concurrent attainment of price stability, real growth, full employment and poverty reduction."

The CBN Governor said also, that the apex bank had been able to reduce inflation, build Nigeria's Foreign Exchange reserves, maintained Foreign Exchange market stability and foster real growth.

Dr. Emefiele, also added that the pace of population growth at about 2.6 per cent still outstrips real growth rate while inflation is outside tolerance band. "Unemployment rate and incidence of poverty remain at unacceptable levels. " He concluded.

Obasanjo: Nigerians Need National Meeting To Settle Nigeria’s National Identity Matters Now

Posted: 25 May 2019 03:13 PM PDT

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo

This opinion piece by former President Olusegun Obasanjo is, according to Nigerian Tribune, excerpted from his keynote address at the 2019 Synod of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Oleh Diocese, Isoko, Delta State, on May 18, 2019.

My Lord Bishop, distinguished ladies and gentlemen, if you ask me and if I am permitted to… once again air my views, I will, without hesitation recommend that we go back to that number one concept in human behaviour, which is 'Politics', and on the part of the leaders and the led, politics matters most. Politics here embraces governance, political will, political economy, economy itself and understanding global situation as it impacts on the fortune of our nation, and the welfare and well-being of our people individually and collectively. Leadership is the bases of our politics. If politics is right, the other four Ps of population, prosperity, protection which is security and partnerships will invariably be got right. In economy which must mean prosperity for all, government must get out of temptation of over-borrowing and consequent devaluation trap. What have we gained from moving Nigerian currency value from one naira to almost two dollar to 360 naira to one dollar in one generation – impoverishment?

Every issue of insecurity must be taken seriously at all levels and be addressed at once without favouritism or cuddling. Both Boko Haram and herdsmen acts of violence were not treated as they should at the beginning. They have both incubated and developed beyond what Nigeria can handle alone.

They are now combined and internationalised with ISIS in control. It is no longer an issue of lack of education and lack of employment for our youth in Nigeria which it began as, it is now West African fulanisation, African islamisation and global organised crimes of human trafficking, money laundering, drug trafficking, gun trafficking, illegal mining and regime change. Yet we could have dealt with both earlier and nib them in the bud, but Boko Haram boys were seen as rascals not requiring serious attention in administering holistic measures of stick and carrot. And when we woke up to the reality, it was turned to industry for all and sundry to supply materials and equipment that were already outdated and that were not fit for active military purpose.

Soldiers were poorly trained for the unusual mission, poorly equipped, poorly motivated, poorly led and made to engage in propaganda rather than achieving results. Intelligence was poor and governments embarked on games of denials while paying ransoms which strengthened the insurgents and yet governments denied payment of ransoms. Today, the security issue has gone beyond the wit and capacity of Nigerian government or even West African governments. The Economist Magazine of May 4, 2019, p. 15, has this to say:

READ ALSO:  Fulanization Of Nigeria: Sule Lamido Criticised, Obasanjo Was Right - Bode George

"The conflict is spread across a broad expanse of Africa, from Somalia in the east to the Atlantic Ocean in the west. It is concentrated in some of the poorest countries on Earth, where it is fuelled by bad governance. Some of these states barely control much of their own supposed territory. Many jihadist recruits come from ethnic minorities, such as the Fulani, who see officials as alien and predatory. Many join up after being beaten or robbed by police.

"Global warming, meanwhile, has withered pastures, intensifying conflict over land. These pressures are most keenly felt in the Sahel, on the southern fringe of the Sahara desert. In Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger, the number of people killed by jihadists has doubled in each of the past two years, to more than 1,100 in 2018.

"In the Sahel as a whole, some 5,000 have been killed in the past five months. In the area around Lake Chad, some 2.4m people have fled from attacks by Boko Haram, a group that straps bombs to children. The number of jihadist groups in the Sahel has multiplied, from one in 2012 to more than ten at the last count by America's defence department."

But all the same, our charity must begin at home. Government must appreciate where we are. Summon each group that should make contributions one by one and subsequently collectively seek the way forward for all hands on deck and with the holistic approach of stick and carrot. There should be no sacred cow.

Some of the groups that I will suggest to be contacted are: traditional rulers, past heads of service (no matter how competent or incompetent they have been and how much they have contributed to the mess we are in), past heads of para-military organisations, private sector, civil society, community leaders particularly in the most affected areas, present and past governors, present and past local government leaders, religious leaders, past Heads of State, past intelligence chiefs, past Heads of Civil Service and relevant current and retired diplomats, members of opposition and any groups that may be deemed relevant.

After we have found appropriate solution internally, we should move to bilateral, multilateral, regional, continental and global levels. With ISIS involvement, we cannot but go global. Without security and predictable stability, our development, growth and progress are in peril. Let me hasten to add that we must be at the appropriate seat at the table of international discourse, deliberations, agenda and action.

That Nigeria from independence has always been in the forefront of any continental initiative, decision, action or programme has put us in some form of leadership position. For Nigeria to be outside the African Continental Free Trade Zone Agreement when it automatically came into effect with twenty-two-nations' ratification is to say the least unfortunate.

If we get the politics correct, every other human activity would fall into place: culture, ethics, way of life and adherence to rule of law/equality before the law/ruthless application of the law, economy, education, defence and security, etc.

I hold the view that it is because we have not been able to get the politics of our coexistence right that nearly sixty years after independence we are still battling to answer the most basic questions involved in nationhood. I think it is like a building, which once the foundation is faulty, becomes wobbly with the tiniest turbulence. Consequently, the issue of nationality identity, values, ethics and national dream must be settled once and for all. This may require a global national meeting.

If Miyetti Allah is truly encouraging herdsmen violence and killings and truly they have to be appeased or placated with 100billion naira and they are equated to Afenifere, Ohaneze Ndigbo, etc, then we have to appease those other organisations similarly or be ready to allow them to unleash havoc of their own.

We need politics of a united Nigeria for all Nigerians – not one for Yoruba, one for Ibo, one for Hausa-Fulani, one for Ijaw, one for Nupe, one for Tiv, one for Kanuri and one for Isoko. If we fail to do this, I am afraid all the EFCC, ICPC, Plans and Strategies and the rest of the political re-engineering and manoeuvres such as creation or contraction/merger of states, forms of government, attempts at ethical re-orientation, constitutional amendment, etc, may not usher in the much desired peace, stability, national development, and of course, improvement in the quality of life of the majority of Nigerians.

We shall merely be going round and round in circles which has been our lot since independence. We must move away from taking two steps forward followed by one and two or three backwards.

Let us continue to build positively on existing structure. If the issue of politics and governance is firmly settled, the issue of development, stability, growth and progress will constitute no problems because humans, materials and funds will be mobilised internally and externally for the good of all and all will be partners, stakeholders and defenders of our common wealth. There are some of assumptions in our Constitution that time has shown are too presumptuous and we have to deal with this issue of assumptions; either those assumptions are clearly spelt out with ways and means to live up to them or to amend our Constitution in accordance with our inability to live up to those assumptions. When all these are done, mobilisation of everything we have and which we can muster will be easy for our development, stability, growth and progress.

What is the roadmap for economic development? If we have one, it may not be well spelt out or well known. But let me in drawing to conclusion suggest a five-point strategy as follows: a. Commodity, agriculture and mineral b.Infrastructure c. Manufacturing d. Services e. Fourth, industrial revolution.

These can be fleshed out in details and must be accepted as national programme and strategy to be followed and actualised by any government for the welfare and well-being of the people.

In all these issues of mobilisation for national unity, stability, security, cooperation, development, growth and progress, there is no consensus. Like in the issue of security, government should open up discussion, debate and dialogue as part of consultation at different levels and the outcome of such deliberations should be collated to form inputs into a national conference to come up with the solution that will effectively deal with the issues and lead to rapid development, growth and progress which will give us a wholesome society and enhanced living standard and livelihood in an inclusive and shared society.

It will be a national programme. We need unity of purpose and nationally accepted strategic roadmap that will not change with whims and caprices of any government. It must be owned by the citizens, people's policy and strategy implemented by the government no matter its colour and leaning.

Election fraud undermines legitimacy and it is a killer of democracy. To destroy democracy is to destroy hope for most Nigerians and the consequence will be grave. And we must all appreciate that democracy that fails to deliver dividends to the citizenry in terms of security, safety, freedoms and general enhancement of livelihood will lead to frustration and desperation and all other dangers that can follow.

Through division and alienation wittingly and unwittingly encouraged by government, incipient factors of state destruction are observable everywhere in hate preaching and advocacy, upsurge tribalism and sectionalism, silence and complacency among those who should care and a dangerously rising feeling that your votes don't count and elections don't matter.

And yet we spend colossal amount of money on elections every four years with apparently not much to show for it. With other ills within our society, if these observable symptoms are not addressed and speedily too, we are heading to self-destruction. It will not matter where the fire commences from, it will spread fast and widely leaving no survivor on its trail.

In the last three weeks, I have been close to two countries and learned how they self-destruct. I was in Somaliland to learn at first-hand the story of self-destruction of Somalia. And I was in Colombia to similarly learn the story of self-destruction of Venezuela. They both started with destruction of democracy. And Venezuela used democratic process to destroy democracy. Nigeria seems to be embarking on the path of Venezuela. With only a population of about 30 million, the Venezuela humanitarian situation today, heightened by drug trafficking, illegal mining, pervasive corruption and terrorism, is crying to the world. But the world can turn a blind eye and it would be our funeral.

Over the same period, I was in Malaysia and Vietnam and I could feel the palpation of nations on the right path by and large. The forewarned is to be forearmed and the impunity is already there. But with collective goodwill, the right leadership and good governance, the sky is the limit for Nigeria, a country surely in the hands of God for us to move forward, unitedly mobilising all necessary resources to make Nigeria a leader in Africa and the leader of the black race. That is the role God has created for us.

I thank you for your attention and God bless you all.

Dear fellow actors and celebrities alike, Take it easy now…😀😀 How can you allegedly say you sign a 200 million Naira, or even 100 million Naira contract with a company that does not even make up to 30 million Naira per annum as PROFIT after TAX in Naija?💰 Let us fear God oh… Even the so called BIG brands like #GLO, #MTN etc that we know make BILLIONS per annum, hardly sign celebrities with such big amount.🍎 Honestly, when they tell you they just signed a multi million Naira contract, my people many a times, the figures are inflated.😀 There is nothing someone will not hear in Nigeria, wait, are these hype also for publicity or what biko?

Few days ago, Tonto Dikeh revealed that she bagged an endorsement deal worth N100 million naira with Zikel cosmetics.

Movie "Bobrisky in Love" under investigation by FG board panels, Maybe Banned

Movie "Bobrisky in Love" under investigation by FG board panels, Maybe Banned
Bobrisky and his movie under investigation by FG board panels and may ban it

The National Film and Video Censors Board has set up three panels to analyse a new movie starring popular Nigerian crossdresser, Bobrisky.

The movie titled, "Bobrisky in Love" features Idris Okunneye, popularly known as Bobrisky.

'Bob Risky in Love' was produced by Nollywood Namaste Production company while Ken Steve Anuka was the director.

Bobrisky is featured in the movie as a transgender woman named Cherechi who travelled out of the country as a man only to return to the village as a woman to the chagrin of his fiancee and relatives

The soundtrack of the movie, also urges members of the public to accept Cherechi aka Cherry B as a transgender.

It is also suspected that the cross dresser is now a transgender as he recently revealed that he cut off his manhood a long time ago.

You would recall that On 13 January 2014, The president of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan signed into law the Same-Sex Marriage Prohibition Act, which parliament passed in May 2013. The law follows a similar one passed in Uganda in December 2013, which imposes life imprisonment for some types of homosexual acts.

A top official of the NFVCB told The Punch that three separate panels have been set up at the zonal levels to analyse and classify the movie and it could be banned seeing as Nigeria has laws that prohibit homosexuality, therefore work of arts that promote it cannot be endorsed by the government.

He said, according to the publication: "We have set up three different panels to view the movie which was given to us by the producers for classification and review.

"For the purpose of fairness and objectivity, we will not give specific details since evaluation is still ongoing but note that any movie that promotes homosexuality in contravention of our laws cannot be endorsed.

"Latest by next week we will deliver a verdict on the movie. If the movie is banned, it would be communicated to the producers and our enforcement team would mop up all copies of the film on the market and defaulters would be apprehended and fined appropriately."

7 Days Final Quit Notice To All Fulani Herdsmen in South West tagged: “Operation Sweep Clean- (Folumo)”

Posted: 25 May 2019 05:38 AM PDT

Yoruba Council of Youths Worldwide (YCYW)

The leadership of the Yoruba Council of Youths Worldwide (YCYW) alongside other leading Yoruba youth organizations in Yoruba Land: a coalition of all yoruba indigenous youth and student organizations in Nigeria and in Diaspora, with the sole aim of enthroning rule of law, security of lives and properties, good governance and succinct democratic ethos predicated on Awoism credos and peaceful coexistence of Nigeria.

Based on this premise, rising from her National Executive Council meeting in ile ife on 23rd May,2019, in view of the recurrent decimal of flagrant brutal killings by the gun wielding terrorist Fulani Herdsmen/Boko Haram, aggressive invasion and violent attacks and alleged kidnapping of innocent Yorubas and Nigerians domiciled in Yoruba Land, gross violation of fundamental rights to human dignity leading to serial and merciless killings of innocent youths, rising wave of insecurity across the nation in Lagos around Ojokoro, ibadan to ife road, ibadan to Ijebu Ode/Benin Ore road, Ekiti to Akure and other highways kidnappings and robberies, incessant records of brutal ritual killings to mention a few, precipitating our unanimous resolution via final 7 days quite notice to all fulani herdsmen/boko haram to stay off all our territories, towns, villages and highways in all southwest states predicated on the launched mass movement tagged: "Operation Sweep Clean(Folumo)" forthwith.

Failure to comply with this final warning shall leave us with no other option than to forcefully clean up and rootout all fulani herdsmen/boko haram terrorists in all hiding creeks and forests in the south west geo political zone of Nigeria after 7 days final quit notice to lapse on the night of Thursday 30th May, 2019 accordingly.

Henceforth, we are laconically positing that all residents persons domiciled in the southwest shall be part of this mass movement launch of 20 million man match against the herdsmen terrorists in all southwestern states, wherein a date will be announced upon violation of these warning notice, wherein all our members across all the local governments and communities within southwestern states shall by jointly and simultaneously mobilized to frontally comb and move into all forests, creeks and flash points, wherein all cattle breedings and animal husbandry marauding shall be stopped forthwith.

Furthermore, after 21 days of persistence of this heinous threats against our people, we shall not hesitate to move against all investments and businesses; ranging from real estate, transportation haulage, oil and gas owned by any hausa/fulani extractions within southwest, if this evil persist irreversibly without verifiable interventions from their leaders and heads, we shall summarily shut down all palaces of hausa/ fulani communities within southwest.

Nigeria, seems to be faced with multifaceted challenges daily, consequently we have gotten lots of colossal loss of lives and properties from the killer herdsmen terrorist groups, unfortunately they are yet to be classified as a prohibited Terrorists organization by the federal government of Nigeria.

READ ALSO: Former President Goodluck Jonathan Gets New Appointment

Paharps, it is highly regrettable to note the Federal Government ill motivated act of comparing the Myetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria to Afenifere and other socio-cultural groups; what a profused insultive, irresponsible and reckless statement from a government under democratic rule, to make matters worsened President Muhamnadu Buhari led federal government assured and promised N100Billion to support the herdsmen, when they have not shown any sign of remorse or repentant demeanor.

We have it on record, that the FG has proven to protect this fulani hersdemen with an additional approval of radio station licencing to fulani radio station network across the nation.

Consequently, this is a direct nexus for provoked aggression, anarchy and authoritarianism.

We are suspicious of some elements who are using the veil of government to launch massive genocidal war against innocent Nigerians, particularly Yoruba people, i.e recently our doctors and professionals are gruesomely killed and brutally maimed.

Based on live report, we learnt the boko haram and fulani herdsmen are feasting around us daily, in over 2,000 creeks forests spread across southwestrrn states, particularly in the most vulnurable states: Ogun, Ekiti, Oyo, Osun and Ondo States respectively.

For power corrupt and absolute powers corrupt absolutely.

We believe, this is the best time to review our unworkable system of government towards the realization of the restructuring agenda, with a prepared vision and hope for a new people's constitution that guarantees good governance, devolves power and economic resources rights to the Regions/ States and Local government units, unfortunately this has not only contributed immensely to our precarious and nebulous status as the poverty capital of the world, but tainted accolades as the worst place to live in on earth.

What else gives citizens the confidence to thrive, if this stumbling pyramid of daily struggles and resultant double jeopardy remains unabated.

Based on this premise, we believe charity begins at home, precipitating our clarion call for 'A Southwest Economic Revitalization and Security Summit' slated for Thursday June 27th, 2019 at Mapo Hall, Ibadan, Oyo State by 11a.m.

We passionately appeal to all our political leaders, stakeholders, elders, youth organizations, all Yoruba socio-cultural self determination groups and Royal fathers to urgently shun all divisive tendencies and embrace one another, for it is high time we crave with the greatest respect and seek His Imperial Majesty, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Babatunde Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Dr. Olayiwola Atanda Adeyemi 111, The Alaafin of Oyo and other Royal Fathers of great reputes.

Also, we equally call for a closer ranks between Aare Dr Gani Adams, The Aare Onakankafo of Yoruba Land alongside the Agbekoya, Afenifere, ARG, all OPC, OLM, YCWY, YYC, Yoruba Koya, Yoruba Assembly, YSG, VOR, all youth and student leaders to mention a few, while we equally call on all our esteemed captains of industries, philanthropists, professionals, scholars, political gladiators and leaders of thoughts to collectively reason together on the way forward and proffer immediate panaceas to this stalemate.

For we can no longer guarantee our further safety and economic survival as a nation, due to the aforementioned tribulations and double jeopardy thickly fastly like an evolving time bomb, earnestly waiting for ignition.

We believe that this similar gestures be transmitted to other regions too, in order to simulteniosly and effectively ventilate our age long grudges dispassionately as commons and compatriots.

This will then culminate to the eventual convocation of 'A National Peace and Security Summit' to be hosted by President Mohammadu Buhari in Abuja by Thursday 25th July, 2019.

However, firstly we demand for a special Yoruba youth dialogue with President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR being a father and president of the nation, this shall serve as a means of intimating him on all the aforementioned, in order to cross fertilize ideas on the current state of the nation affairs and other issues of mutual interests, as the nation's present and future heirs, as well as YCYW being the umbrella body for the Yoruba youths.

We hope this clarion call would constructively summoned our dying consciousness of building and salvaging our nation from imminent total collapse, for canons of war or attrition cannot solve our dreaded ailments, but exploring dialogue as the alternative first aid of getting out of this evil hoods.

We believe that no human life is worth to be shed on the alter of mediocrity and quests for power.

For we must ensure to protect all inhabitants within our territories and by extension all Nigerians nationally.

Long live Yoruba Land.

Long live Federal Republic of Nigeria!

Aremo (Barr)Oladotun.Hassan,

The Global Citizen event is a campaign focused on achieving the Global Goals on ending poverty, zero hunger, good health and well-being, quality education, gender equality, clean water and sanitation, life below water, and other sustainable development goals (SDGs).

DJ Cuppy gave a speech about the issues affecting Nigeria and raising awareness towards eradicating the issue.

According to Cuppy, what Nigeria lacks the most is potable water and clean environments. She said the statistics of those who lack clean water and breathable environments makes her less proud of being a Nigerian.

However, popular Nigerian rapper, CDQ, feels it was wrong of her to state clean water as the major problem facing Nigerians because there are so many more important and attention needing problems.

He wrote,

🤦‍♂️ lovely speech baby ❤️ but our main problem no be water u for tell dem our main problem… …Unemployment
…Electricity …bad road network …Economy Instability …Low income (Wage/Salary)
…insufficient educational facilities for the masses
So they would know how to rightfully channel resources

Kunle Afolayan and Fabian Lojede Share Opinion on Film Funding

Kunle Afolayan and Fabian Lojede Share Opinion on Film Funding
Kunle Afolayan and Fabian Lojede have opened up in the challenges of funding films in Nollywood.

Pan African filmmakers, Kunle Afolayan and Fabian Lojede have explained the challenges of funding for filmmakers in Nollywood.

The actors opened up on funding while speaking to Pulse in an exclusive chat on their experiences in the movie industry.

Lojede, the main character of Kunle Afolayan's blockbuster, 'October 1' says the Nigerian movie industry is the only one out of the three major film industries in the world that have failed its practitioners in terms of funding.

"Yeah, that's funding is always an issue. But I think Nigeria is a very unique case. Nigeria, is perhaps out of the three major film industries in the world, or the three only film industries in the world, if you really think about it, which is the US, India, and Nigeria. Nigeria is perhaps the only one that actually doesn't have structured avenues for soft funding for films," he says.

Backing Lojede's claims, Afolayan stressed that financing film projects in Nollywood remain a major issue saying "Financing movie project is still a major, major issue in Nigeria."

In a chat with AY Makun, the top Nollywood producer explains that access to funds remains the biggest challenge facing Nollywood practitioners.

In the words of the '30 Days in Atlanta' star, "The major challenge is access to funds. We still don't have access to funds but people who are doing what they are doing in Nollywood now are individuals who strongly believe in moving Nollywood forward and at the same time trying to get involved in the business to make money for themselves."

Comparing the opportunities available to filmmakers and practitioners in Hollywood, Afolayan says the industry encourages its practitioners not to take bank loans to finance any film project.

"In the US, they would never advise you to take a bank loan to make a film. As a matter of fact, most times when studio or producers talk to executive producers, or potential sponsors, they will clearly say to them that you may not make your money back with this project, but in Nigeria can you tell somebody that you may not make your money back, and they will still give you money to make film? No, it's impossible," the filmmaker says.

Lojede, who recently embarked on a festival tour of his new film, 'Comatose,' says the achievement on the film is as a result of the soft funding from a South African state.

He says further that the funds being provided by the Bank Of Industry in Nigeria can't be referred to as soft funds because of the interest rate.

"I do know that I think we do have BOI (Bank of Industry) but I wouldn't necessarily call BOI soft grants because there is an interest rate and soft funds for the film is really money you're not meant to pay back. Not one you're supposed to pay back with an interest that really is a loan and not necessarily soft funding," he said.

The 'Jacobs Cross' star said further that the Nigerian government needs to back Nollywood. He said the government really need to understand that the international image of the country, the social and economic importance of the film industry is way too overwhelming for the private sector to make the industry thrive on its own.

Kylie Jenners reaction to the news of her former best friend, Jordyn Woods romance with sisters ex-boyfriend, Tristan Thompson is worth watching.

In the new episode of the popular reality tv show 'Keeping Up With The Kardashians,' you can see the Kardashian clan gather to talk about the cheating scandal that not only shocked the world but almost put a dent to their family.

A little scoop from the video indicates that Kylie was obviously pissed at the situation and she used the F word to describe Jordyn's actions.

Another excerpt from the new episode of the KUWTK episode shows that Kourtney and Kendall both have a strained relationship.

It would be recalled that a few months ago, the news of Tristan Thompson hooking up with Kylie Jenner's best friend, Jordyn Woods hit the Internet. She, however, went on the defensive and blamed it on the alcohol.
