With Omawumi, longevity isn’t an aspiration, it’s a personality trait

With Omawumi, longevity isn't an aspiration, it's a personality trait
Where is Omawumi? Why is Nigeria's most loved music diva absent from the scene? The last time we heard from her, she was serenading the continent with her "Timeless" album. Where is she?

Omawumi is an original; One of those rare talents that carry the art as part of their DNA. For her, music isn't a profession. It's a core personality trait, one that has endured and been the source of numerous highlights and many moments to cherish.

When Omawumi first announced herself to mainstream consciousness, she pulled off some of the greatest feats – making intersectional music – by finding the fusion between pop and traditional folk elements. "Belle" one of her earlier hit records had her digging into Highlife, and extracting pop with help from Flavour. Another, "If you ask me," was a testament to reinventive fusion. She turned international burlesque arrangements into local happiness. And when you travel closer, taking in her most recent album, "Timeless," what you will find is mastery and growth of her diverse sensibilities.

Music has always been Omawumi's primary driver and core focus. Her debut album "Wonder Woman" happened at an earlier time when Nigeria's sound structure was different, and there was an insistence for pop music to be more than just a vehicle for celebration. "In the music," the debut hit record off the project, which was the culmination of her famous run on the reality TV show, Idols West Africa, was ahead of the curve.

For her second album, "Lasso Of Truth," Omawumi extended her growth and sealed it with some of the most piercing songs ever released in the history of Nigeria. "Lasso Of Truth" carried the classic record, 'If you ask me,' as its lead single. The record became an instant smash hit, embedding itself in both pop culture, and legacy as one of the evergreen records from our industry. It wasn't alone. "Belle," sits up there with it as one of the greatest Nigerian pop songs ever. "Bottom Belle," the phrase came to define the reciprocity of Nigeria romance, and the melody became the soundtrack of transactional love. You can still catch echoes of that record in today's love songs. Although the passage of time and matter has brought changes in lingo, the symbolism of Bottom belle still stands, living on as other gifts and promises made by musicians to their love interests. Whether Gucci or Ferragamo, Prada or a romantic trip to Malaysia, love in Nigeria is tokenised and sealed with "Bottom belle."

"Bottom Belle is a special song," the feisty diva explained with the release. "It is my witty way of telling the story of an opinionated young Nigerian woman who wants and fully intends to enjoy her life. This is a song you'll rock to at the local hangout, the club or even the village square!"

We are still rocking it.

For her third album "Timeless," released in 2017. Omawumi went a different way. This time, she took it in another direction, moving from local pop to what she termed 'exportable African music'. This sound was exemplified by the lead single, 'Play na play,' which featured African Grammy Award winner, Angelique Kidjo.

"That is who I am. When I go into the studio, when I want to write, the first genre that comes into my head is mid-tempo lovers rock. That's how I write…I was brought up in a home where I listened to different genres of music, and the ones that stick are songs that are deep-rooted in African music, but also have influences of jazz and live music. I have always known that that's what I wanted to do. I have always written in that direction." Omawumi told Pulse.

Where previously she has worked with local producers to conform to prevalent pop waves and sound motifs, she cut out all of those voices to create music that is true to a new spirit. She teamed up with producer Cobhams Asuquo, who crafted the sounds from live instrumentation. Omawumi and Cobhams recorded with live instrumentation in Nigeria, South Africa and America, from orchestras in Jòzi to horns in Lagos and strings in Houston, and she voiced everywhere.

All of this work comes alive in her performances. Omawumi ranks as one of Africa's best live performers. An Omawumi set is designed as an inclusive, content-heavy, and experience, that has been felt at numerous corners of the globe. It is led by her powerful vocals, with dancing and laughter. Only a few can come close to her mastery of stagecraft. And that's why her list of stage performances are endless, and she has shared them with the most prestigious performers including Chaka Demus and Pliers, Carl Thomas, Angie Stone and Donell Jones, Angelique Kidjo, among others.

Omawumi's silence is loud. Loud because very few can match her in quality and influence of her sound. We miss that. We miss her powerful voice belting off our stereos, we miss the incredible visuals that accompany her releases. Above all, we miss Omawumi, for all the excellence that she embodies in her art and person.

Where is our Queen? When will our musical royalty return?

Patoranking's new album, 'Wilmer' and what we think?

Posted: 27 May 2019 11:00 PM PDT

On May 24, 2019, Nigerian superstar singer continued his flying start to 2019 by releasing his second studio album, Wilmer. The album is named after his daughter.

Patoranking's new album, 'Wilmer' and what we think?
'Wilmer' is an evolving Patoranking let down by obvious weaknesses

The album has 12 tracks and runs for a total of 42 minutes. The album also contains promotional singles, 'Lenge Lenge' and 'Confirm' featuring Davido, respectively at tracks 7 and 12.

On the date of release, #WILMERTheAlbum became a trending topic on social media. But like the first album, responses have been polarizing.

N.B: Before we go ahead, the listener must be careful to not let the album's weaknesses overshadow its plus points. Equally, any reader on this review should note the praise as much as the criticism.

Through all the listens, these feelings kept coming back;

1.    Patoranking tries to make the album personal – Hence, the title, named after his daughter, Wilmer.

2.    Patoranking tries to work with different sounds and styles simultaneously, and it doesn't always work for the album.

3.    Patoranking tries to appeal to different African demographics.

4.    Wilmer seems hurried.

5.    Patoranking ends up making a saturated album that was not helped by its track list.

6.    Some songs should not have made the album, some of the weaknesses of the album overshadow the bright points on certain songs.

With that out of the way, here is a breakdown of the album;

Track List

As much as Pato's first album, God Over Everything split opinions, there was a direction and the album has aged way better than people want to admit.

As good as it could have been, Wilmer feels rushed. The album starts off commendably to the title track, 'Wilmer' featuring Bara, and the follows up with 'Feelings.' Sonically, the segue makes sense, but topically, one feels 'Nakupenda' featuring Nyashinki should have been track three, while 'Temperature' should have been cut completely from the album.

While 'Temperature' in itself is not a bad song, it sticks out like a forced irregularity. Sonically, it's also an unnecessary transition.

Overall, I understand what Pato is trying to achieve; diversity and variety of topics, sounds and styles while he also appeals to different markets. It's always welcome when artists try to take risks and at least show growth, but it's lofty ambitions. When it's not done well, it backfires and it's never good. This track list definitely didn't help Patoranking.

It seems what he's trying to do is make introspective music and dance tracks. If that's the case, then the track list should have been this;

Wilmer

Nakupenda

Feelings

Black

Zero Probleme

Confirm

Turn Up

Open Fire

Lenge Lenge

Champion

Alongside 'Temperature,' 'Go Crazy' should have been cut from this album – they both stick out, but 'Go Crazy' should still be released as an independent single.

Production

Before we proceed, let me just say the production that started around 02:22 on 'Black' is spectacular music that I did not see coming.

The production on Wilmer is by no means bad, but it falls short of infectious and excellent. The adventurous nature of the production is, however, praise-worthy. We got Kwaito (Open Fire), Afro-beats (Confirm), afro-fusion (Every other song), Kwassa Kwassa-infused Soukous (Zero Problem and Nakupenda), Hip-Hop (Black), Reggae (Feelings), and Dancehall (Wilmer).

While Wilmer – if the songs are rearranged - could prove a more balanced album than God Over Everything, the best songs on God Over Everything trump the best songs on Wilmer.

It just feels like some of the songs on Wilmer will only perform commercially only if they're pushed aggressively – the immediate attraction is just missing. The A&R work on this album could definitely have been better, some beats need to be touched.

For example, 'Black' is by far the best piece of production and music on Wilmer, but around 00:29 when the spoken word/rap started, drums should have come with it. It doesn't have to be a full percussion, kick-drums and low tom at the start of every bar would have done. Equally, something is missing on 'Lenge Lenge' as with a few other songs.

'Open Fire' is another top notch song.

Themes, Songwriting and Topics
Patoranking is one of the few Nigerian dance music makers who never dumb down on substance, and cogent topics.

On Wilmer, one can still not criticize his huge focus on themes of love, identity, fatherhood, success, money, and living well. Equally, placing a premium on songwriting in dance music might be unfair, but even if reverse was the case, Patoranking again aced it.

That said, the spoken word/rapped attempt in the first two minutes of 'Black' could have been better. While the idea of appreciating blackness will never be old, it feels kind of cliché and that's not even the problem. The overkill of "black" wasn't a good look. One feels like Pato should have gotten a writer to get that done for him.

Equally, he should have had a rapper on the phenomenal final two minutes of the song.

Enjoyability
As the album is, though there are good songs, there is a tendency to be bored or unimpressed at certain points. There is also the problem of the track list and filler tracks, previously addressed.

Execution
Despite its obvious plus points, the album should have been better executed. Patoranking can definitely do better than this, and I hope he does on his third album. The album feels rushed, and the A&R should have been better - as noted earlier.

At times, even the use of auto-tune feels like an overkill. There's also the well-documented problem of the track list.

But overall, there's growth in Patoranking's music.

Charly Boy, thinks federal governments planned Fulani radio station, says it's a time bomb waiting to happen

Charly Boy, thinks federal governments planned Fulani radio station, says it's a time bomb waiting to happen
Charly Boy believes trouble is looming following the federal government's decision to establish a Fulani radio station.

The veteran singer and self-acclaimed 'Area Fada' made this known via his Instagram page on Monday, May 27, 2019. According to him, all past presidents who were from different regions of the country didn't establish and radio station from their part of the country, but it is suspicious that President Buhari has decided to set up one from his Fulani speaking region.

"OBJ was President for 8 years him no set up Oduduwa radio. GEJ was President for 5 years, there was no Niger Delta radio... Buhari President, under 4 years has opened Fulani radio... Where do you think all of this is heading to. My people, these people don enter our 18. Let's all adjust ourselves. I smell a truckload of wahala coming," he wrote.

It would be recalled that about a week ago, the Federal Government reportedly acquired an Amplitude Modulation radio broadcast licence to reach and educate herdsmen across the country. This has however been received with mixed reactions.

It is a known fact that Charly Boy is not a huge fan of the present administration and has never shied away from expressing his reservation towards it.

PDP Would Not Have Lost In 2015, If Jonathan Had Listened To Me - Wabara

Posted: 27 May 2019 06:23 PM PDT

 Senator Adolphus Wabara

Senator Adolphus Wabara, former Senate president and secretary of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has disclosed that the party would not have lost the 2015 presidential poll if former president Goodluck Jonathan heeded to the advice not to contest the election.

The former Senate President and BOT secretary revealed this in an interview with Vanguard in Aba, as he also explained that he visited Jonathan in 2011 and warned him about the expected loss of power by the party if he contests the 2015 presidential poll. He said that the former president ignored his advice and the party later lost as he said.

Wabara said that his advice to Jonathan made the then Chief of Staff, Chief Mike Oghiadomhe, to deny him further access to the former president.

He said his advice was not because he hated the former president but that his decision was influenced by the power sharing arrangement between the northern and southern zones of Nigeria. He said: "If President Goodluck Jonathan had listened to me, PDP would not have lost power in 2015. I visited Jonathan in 2011 and pleaded with him not to contest the 2015 presidential election.

"If he had heeded my advice, we would not be suffering today. We lost because of Jonathan's misunderstanding of politics.
"I advised him not to contest, you are not a Northerner.2015 belongs to the north, you can't complete their tenure. But you can complete the tenure of your late boss, that's constitutional. He ignored my advice and his then Chief of Staff, Chief Mike Oghiadomhe denied me further access to the President."

The former Senate president, who represented Abia South senatorial district from 1999 to 2007, also added that PDP's failure in 2015 was because the party did not insist on the zoning formula, which was a very big mistake.

"Zoning is key in PDP, when you talk of zoning, you talk of equity. Our party macro zones and micro zones positions. PDP would have been in power if President Jonathan had respected our policy of zoning in 2015. It was a mistake by the PDP," he said.

What happened at Tribunal on Monday Over Ekweremadu’s Election

Posted: 27 May 2019 01:08 PM PDT

Senator  Ike Ekweremadu

The National and State Assembly Elections Petition Tribunal sitting in Enugu State, on Monday refused an application filed by the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) to strike out the suit challenging the re-election of the Senator  Ike Ekweremadu. representing Enugu West Senatorial District.

Mrs Juliet Ibekaku-Nwagwu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), who is the petitioner, is challenging the results of the Feb. 9 senatorial election in Enugu West that returned Ekweremadu, PDP, as winner.

Justice Haruna Kereng, the tribunal Chairman, having listened to the arguments by counsels in the matter, fixed June 10 for commencement of hearing, Daily Post reports.

Earlier, the PDP through its counsel, Mr A. I. Ani, SAN, prayed the tribunal to strike out certain paragraphs of the petition which it considered "incongruous to the provisions of Nigerian Constitution on fair hearing".

Mr Tochukwu Maduka, who held the brief for Ani, argued that the paragraphs that should be struck out, raised criminal allegations against persons not listed as respondents.

Ani said that the reliefs sought in the application did not question the jurisdiction of the tribunal in entertaining the matter but to strikeout offensive paragraphs.

The counsel, therefore, prayed the tribunal to look at the affected paragraphs and decide on the issues raised before hearing the petition.

"These are not issues the tribunal can wait for as they raise allegations against persons who have not been made parties to the petition as well as the competence of some of the grounds of the petition," he said.

Ani said that the tribunal would run foul of the provisions of Section 36 of the Constitution if it failed to strike out the affected paragraphs before hearing the petition.

However, counsel to the petitioners, Mr K. P. Luke described the application as incompetent, treacherous and irritating.

Luke said that the tribunal had the requisite jurisdiction to hear all the paragraphs of their petition.

"These paragraphs they refer to touch on the competence of our petition. At this stage, the tribunal cannot determine or strike out any paragraph.

"It is the law that border on competence is determined on judgment day," he said.

The counsel said that the application of the PDP was dead on arrival as the major paragraphs of their affidavit were grossly flawed, incompetent and contained legal contentious issues and arguments.

He said that such contentious issues were in conflict with Section. 112 of the Evidence Act.

Luke urged the tribunal to take judicial notice of its ruling of May 15 wherein it reserved ruling on a similar application until judgement day.

The counsel, therefore, urged the tribunal to discountenance the application.

‘You’ll only be President of Nigeria Union of Road Transport Workers’ – Omokri mocks Okorocha

Posted: 27 May 2019 04:54 PM PDT

Reno Omokri

A former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, has reacted to the declaration by the Imo State Governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha, that he will become the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The embattled outgoing Imo Governor made the vow on Sunday during his valedictory thanksgiving service held at the Government House Chapel in Owerri, Daily Post reports.

According to Governor Okorocha, the political travails he faced now, particularly the seizure of his Certificate of Return as the Imo West senator-elect, were only his stepping stone to the presidential seat.

Okorocha berated his political adversaries who, according to him, wanted him to end up in prison.

He said he is "the most criticised politician" in the country, adding that all the ploy to stop him from going to the Senate will fail.

"I tell you, I am the most criticised person in Nigeria today. I don't know why the entire elite hate me with cruelty.

"My Senate ambition is still a battle. More than 30 people have joined the suit to fight me. All these, I will overcome.

"They are only preparing me for the glory ahead.

"Mark it, I will be president of Nigeria. I said this on this altar so that the kingdom of God will rise against those fighting to stop me.

"Also, those who think they will put me in prison will go to prison before me," Okorocha said.

But reacting, Omokri, in a tweet on Monday, mocked Okorocha by saying that the Governor 'will become President of Nigeria Union of Road Transport Workers'.

He wrote: "Rochas is NOT lying when he said "Mark my words, I will be president of Nigeria".

"That prophecy is accurate. @RealRochas Okorocha will become President of Nigeria Union of Road Transport Workers. As the founder of #IBERIBERISM, he will be a good fit! #FreeLeahSharibu #RenosDarts."

Minister Begs Buhari; Please Don’t Re-appoint Me In Your 2nd Term Cabinet

Posted: 27 May 2019 11:33 AM PDT

Senator Heineken Lokpobiri

The Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, has appreciated President Muhammadu Buhari for making him part of his first term cabinet.

He however asked that the president not to bother re-appointing him as a minister in his incoming government.

Lokpobiri, who said he made the appeal to Buhari during a recent meeting with him, explained that he wants to become the next governor of Bayelsa State and not a minister.

He disclosed this during an interview with Channels Television on Sunday. He noted that though he gained a lot working as a minister under Buhari, he would prefer to replicate all he had learnt as governor of Bayelsa than serving as a minister again.

"I met the president a few days ago and I told him that I want to run for governorship in Bayelsa, having thanked him for appointing me as a minister.

READ ALSO:  Buhari Almost Converted Me To Islam - Rotimi Amaechi

"I have learnt so much under him in the four years than what I learnt as a parliamentary for 12 years. I want to take that experience back home and see how we can build a Bayelsa beyond oil," he said.

On what happens if the state's former governor, Timipre Sylva, believed to be his godfather is opposed to his ambition, Lokpibiri said:

"Sylva is not my godfather. When I was speaker in 1999 he (Sylva) was special assistant to Alamieyeseigha. When I came to the Senate, he became governor.

"Yes, I must concede he came into APC and might have facilitated my appointment as minister but that does not make him my godfather. In 2007, when he got elected as governor, I got elected as Senator. In 2007, I was with Timi Alaibe and that was how I got the ticket.

"In 2011, we worked together even when former president Goodluck Jonathan and Governor Seriake Dickson were fighting him. I worked for him and not Dickson.

"The APC governorship ticket would not divide us. As far as I am concerned, it is going to be a family affair. We might go into primaries and whoever wins would fly the party's flag and I believe I am going to win."

Nigerian soul and pop Singer, Ric Hassani has been up to quite a lot recently. Speaking on some of his activities with Sunday Scoop, he said, "I have been doing so many shows outside Nigeria. I just got back from Mauritius.

We were also recently in Kenya. And very soon, I'll be going to Honduras. I've also been working on my album and I have a new body of work that would be coming out soon."

Describing his experience in Mauritius, Hassani said, "It was amazing and quite unbelievable to me. I performed at a 5000-capacity venue and it was sold out."

On what to expect from his forthcoming album, he said, "I am going to be telling a lot of stories. My first album had a lot of love songs but soon, I will be telling general human angle stories.

These days, Nigerians listen to almost every kind of music, but some people don't want to believe that. Just make your music and find your crowd. But some artistes keep going after crowds that are already taken. I love making music and that is what drives me."

South-West Under Herdsmen Siege With 1,123 Cells – Yoruba Elders Raise Alarm

Posted: 27 May 2019 06:47 AM PDT

Herdsmen

The Yoruba Council of Elders, YCE, has cried out, that the South-West is now under siege by herdsmen.

YCE claimed that there were several sleeper cells being operated by herdsmen across the South-West region.

Col. Ade Agbede (rtd), President of the Council, in a statement by its the elders were unequivocal that it appears as if the herdsmen were untouchable.

YCE called on its people to be "on guard" and hold the issue of security so dearly to prevent further loss of lives and property in the region, Daily Post reports.

The statement read: "As Yoruba elders and leaders in our own rights, we owe it a duty to speak up. There are said to be 1,123 cells belonging to armed herdsmen located across Yoruba nation. "Perhaps, the most challenging issue confronting the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari is that of insecurity and it is not hidden, the various efforts being made. But, one is constrained to observe that the situation is degenerating and when such a situation arises, it needs drastic solution.

"We are not oblivious of the great task of the military in nearly all parts of the north and some parts of the south against insurgents and bandits. This has made the military very stretched, thereby, needing the understanding and cooperation of Nigerians to render a helping effort in intelligence gathering to forestall what appears like a planned invasion of Yoruba nation.

"This is part of the reasons we are now calling on our people to be on guard and forge a common front to ensure the security of lives and property in our region. A released victim from herdsmen captivity said unequivocally that Yoruba nation is under siege as he recounted how about 10 armed men dressed in army uniform (camouflage) kidnapped him.

"We all have to wake up from our slumber and flush out all strange and potentially dangerous people hiding in our forests.

"A situation which makes the herdsmen appear untouchable and have laxity to behave as they like is embarrassingly worrisome and poses grave danger to peaceful coexistence among the various ethnic groups in the country.

"The Federal Government should resolve to rein in herdsmen and bandits so as not to pave way for a situation where everybody will resort to self-defence which will ultimately lead to anarchy and descend to Hobbesian state of nature where life is short, brutish and nasty."

Doctor reveals how he saved a man’s life during his flight to Lagos

Posted: 27 May 2019 06:00 AM PDT

A Nigerian doctor identified as James King has narrated how he saved a man from death during a flight recently.

The man took to his Facebook page to tell his story. According to him, a fellow passenger close to him collapsed mid-air and he had to move into action immediately to save him from the grip of horrific death.

Below is how he told his story:

Its getting clearer now, …why I was born.

I just saved a life who would have possibly died midair in the aircraft I was a passenger in.

I was on seat 14F of BOEING 737-300 of AZMAN AIR from Kano to Lagos.

Suddenly, his head dropped.

A passenger on seat to my far left on the other side of the aisle.

The Indian man sitting besides him screamed and called the attention of the air officials.

The Indian said it seems the man passed out.

We were still several miles above sea level.

Far from Lagos our destination.

As it is with my nature, I was listening to some music with my earpiece on board this flight. I was rocking myself head forward and backward, my hands slightly moving up to the powerful music of SHOW US MERCY by Will Adiks.

The movements to the unconscious passenger got my attention.

I removed my earpiece.

In 5 powerful long strides I got to the dying patient.

To the Air Hostesses, "I am Dr James King. I want to take over. He is deteriorating fast."

The Air Hostess said, "Ok sir. Go ahead."

And she gave me way.

I quickly checked his pulse around his radial artery. It was small volume, irregularly irregular rhythm.

I shouted, "Any doctor, nurse or paramedic here?"

No response.

All the other passengers on board were staring at me with a forlorn look.

As if there was an impending danger to all of them.

I turned to the immaculately dressed 3 Air Hostess around me. "We can save this life together. His life depends on us now."

I turned to one of the hostesses, "Can you please get us all the medical boxes and kits in this aircraft"

She responded, "Ok sir" and walked fast away.

I asked two other male passengers to help me lift the dying man from his seat to the aisle between the airfraft seats, …so I can have more space to start my intervention on him.

We placed him on the ground.

I immediate positioned him supine and also freed his respiratory airways by tilting his head backwards a bit.

I again asked, "please can I have any cloth or anything to support his neck."

The air hostesses removed their top suits clorhing and handed them to me. Obviously well trained. Thank you AZMAN Air.

I was surprised at such empathy by the Air Hostesses.

I was truly encouraged and energised.

I folded two of them and placed them under the neck the of dying man.

At this point the dying man was already having rolling up eyes, …all white.

I listened to his apex heart beat.

It was very weak and faint.

I knew in seconds, he would be dead if I don't do something fast.

I commenced CPR (Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation) on him.

He responded.

Then he began to convulse uncontrollably.

At the top of my voice, I shouted "Can someone get me Diazepam please?"

An air hostess ran somewhere to get it.

It was 30 minutes before landing.

If nothing was done fast he will die in less than 10mimutes.

I repeated CPR again.

And again. And again….

I listened to the heart using my stethoscope.

Some mild activity commenced.

I turned to the chief air Hostess, please call Murtala Mohammed Airport and tell then to arrange an Ambulance before our landing."

She said, "Right away" and began to rush toward the cockpit to inform the Pilot to do so.

When I was sure the patient's ventilation improved a bit, I quickly withdraw 5mg of Diazepam and gave him straight intramuscular on his buttocks.

Returned to the supine position again.

Commenced CPR.

Checked his radial pulse.

I then announced to everyone that… "I AM buying time. He will survive."

I was on the floor of the aircraft kneeling around him.

Monitoring every single thing I can pick from his reflexes.

The chief air hostess came back.

I asked her, "How many minutes do we have more to land?"

She said, "in 5 minutes."

I again announced to everyone on board, "HE will survive."

Then there was a loud sudden noise in the aircraft.

Then we landed on the runway.

Three men/passengers carried him.

We evacuated him very fast out of the plane.

At the foot of the plane there was no ambulance waiting.

I was visibly angry and now shouting at the top of my voice to all the airport officials.

That the ambulance is at the other side.

In a rage I said to them, "This is wickedness. We did all our best with God's help to keep this man alive for 30 minutes and you people could not even get an Ambulance to wait here?"

Someone suggested that he should be taken in one of the Toyota Hilux van.

I said "No, it will kill him before we get anywhere".

I screamed, "Any clinic in the airport?"

That was when their brains came back to default reset and they chorused, "Yes."

I said to the good men still carrying him let go.

That was when we rushed him to the clinic you are seeing in the photo of this post.

Its the airport clinic that is close to the Arrivals of the Murtala Mohammmed airport, Lagos.

I explained everything I did and the medications given to the doctor on call.

She took over.

Then I walked out and looked up to heaven and said, "I know You are involved in this. Thank you Lord."

I stayed on the case thereafter.

He survived.

And presently in a government tertiary hospital in Lagos for expert management.

Addendum:
I actually came to Lagos for a humanitarian programme, an aboslutely FREE Medical outreach, poorly funded, meant for the sick and abandoned Prison inmates.

We are all born to save lives.

Thank you.

Sharon Francis: 'If you can’t afford Pierre-Cardin tuxedo, don’t come to me'

Sharon Francis: 'If you can't afford Pierre-Cardin tuxedo, don't come to me'
Actress, Oluchi Sharon Francis has revealed that not only does she have a penchant for great movies with beautiful themes, but she has no respect and love for any man that can't afford to buy himself a Pierre-Cardin Tuxedo to grace the red-carpet.

While speaking with Potpourri, Sharon Francis said:

"It hasn't been so rosy, I must say…but that big man up there has been faithful. My victories have been more than my obstacles because till date I've done so many movies that I can't easily recall. But guess what?
There isn't a single movie of mine that has not been a blockbuster. I've starred in movies like 'Street of Canaan' , 'Black Cats' , Red Mafianm', to mention a few" she added.

She then stated that any man that is not financially stable and could not afford the luxurious things of life, should back off:

"First and foremost, I would like to render an apology to all the broke guys all around the world because heaven knows that I can't be caught dead with a man that can't get a Pierre-cardin tuxedo for an emergency red carpet event.

Then love…This is the most beautiful thing in the whole world and I would really feel accomplished if God gives me a man that loves me. Don't get me wrong, he doesn't have to be Dangote but he should be able to get me a surprise gift that would really get me 'financially horny and emotional' on my birthday.
'Financially horny' in the sense that money works on me like a reflex action…especially when it comes with respect and reasons. A young successful man as a boyfriend could get a hot sex for buying me some massive karats of gold. In a nutshell, finance gets me emotional and horny" she declares.Sexy and suave Nollywood actress, Oluchi Sharon Francis knows what she wants out of life and sure knows how to go about getting it. It may be noteworthy to watch out for her as she is gently building a legacy in the make-believe enclave.

Ruggedman to sue Controversial Journalist, Kemi Olunloyo, gives reason
The rapper is taking this action in reaction to the controversial journalist's claim that he snitched on upcoming artiste Naira Marley, who is currently undergoing trial on charges bothering on internet fraud.

It appears as if the legal representatives of the rapper has served Kemi a letter asking her to desist from defaming his character on the internet and if she refuses, she will be taken to court.

Ruggedman was reported to have said he doesn't know what her motive is, all he cares for is for Kemi to stop inciting people against him.

While claiming the rapper snitched on Naira Marley, Kemi had written:

#BREAKING @ruggedybaba #Ruggedman pls come clean on snitching out @nairamarley on an assumed name to the @officialefcc. We Investigative Journalists also have "snitches" we call sources inside the antigraft agency. We need transparency in this investigation as the petitioner must stand trial too.
__

NIGERIANS know your rights! As a prisoner at #PortHarcourt maximum prison, all EFCC cases had petitioners on the stand or their REAL NAMES and lawyers repping them. I'm not a "mad woman" that people call me. I'm in fact the BEST Investigative Journalist on Nigerian soil and don't dare call me "Controversial Journalist" cos if your Nigerian media were doing their job, they would have dug deeper and won't be reporting what I said daily.
Pls confirm or deny this Ruggedman!

President Muhammadu Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday extended birthday wishes to Alhaji Aminu Dantata, the patriarch of the Dantata family, who turned 88 years.

Alhaji Aminu Dantata was extolled by President Buhari on his role as a public officer, business and community leader, who engineered an eco-system that fostered creativity of young minds in business by generously supporting innovations, long before governments got interested in promoting start-ups, Daily Post reports.

"He was acutely aware that unless our communities promoted education and business enterprise, the country cannot realise its potential and compete with other emerging economies," Buhari said.

"It was Alhaji Aminu Dantata's exemplary leadership of the Kano business community that set the foundations for a prosperous and inclusive Kano city.

Workers Arrears Of New Minimum Wage, Are Being Owed by FG, States - Ngige

Posted: 27 May 2019 04:14 AM PDT

Senator Chris Ngige

Dr. Chris Ngige, the Minister of Labour and Employment,  has said that both the federal and the state governments are already owing arrears of workers' salaries by virtue of the N30,000 new Minimum Wage law which took effect from April 18, 2019.

Senator Ngige also disclosed that the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), risk proscription for breaching an important aspect of the Trade Unions Act which deals with rendering annual account on workers' check off dues.

The Minister while speaking in a interview with journalists in Abuja Sunday, said the federal government had constituted a committee with the task of working out a new template that will help make the consequential adjustments needed to commence the payment of the N30,000 minimum wage, ThisDay reports.

Ngige also explained that negotiations would soon begin on the actual template to be used for the payment of the new wage.

READ ALSO:  NLC On Rampage, Puts Minister Ngige's Residence Under Siege

According to him, this is going to be worked out with the Joint Negotiating Council in both the federal and at state levels.

"Every state government is now owing workers if they have not started paying N30,000. They are owing workers effective from 18th of April, a new minimum wage. "We are in a committee working out a new template with which we will adjust upward the consequential adjustment upstairs for those already earning above N30,000. This is what we doing now," he said.

The minister, who noted that the emphasis of the new minimum wage was on the vulnerable and those workers down the ladder, said that the government had set up a technical committee under the Salaries and Wages Commission to work out what the federal government will do for their workers and then advise the state governments appropriately.

Explaining the issues further, Ngige said: "You must consequentially adjust for the man on grade level two, grade level three, grade level four and five, because that man on GL 1 step 1 has overtaken them with his new payment.
"That is what we refer to as consequential adjustment. This consequential adjustment touches more the people on the lower ladder and we are working it out. The negotiation is going to be with the Joint Negotiating Council in both the federal and at the state level". According to Ngige, what yhe federal government is doing is use the Salaries and Wages Commission to work out what the federal government will pay its workers and to also advise the state governments appropriately.

On the insistence by some state governments that they will not be able to pay the N30,000 minimum wage, Ngige said that the law on National Minimum Wage is a binding one and that no state can afford to disobey it.
"No, it is a national law and no governor can say he will not pay. The issue of National Minimum Wage is item 34 on the exclusive legislative list of the third schedule of the Nigerian Constitution. The issue of labour is also there and not on the concurrent list. If it is on the concurrent list, then they can make their own state assembly laws on that," he said.

READ ALSO: JUST IN: Federal Govt Announces Proposed New Minimum Wage

Responding to accusations by the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) that he was frustrating the speedy implementation of the new minimum wage, Ngige said that the NLC President, Ayuba Wabba was employing blackmail tactics.

He attributed the delay in commencing the payment of the new minimum wage to some bureaucractic bottlenecks which will soon be sorted out.

"I am the prime mover of the new minimum wage. If you ask anybody in the Federal Executive Council, they will tell you so and the president will also tell you so and he has said so many times. So, the President of the NLC is playing politics," he said.

Speaking on what the state governments should avoid in the implementation of the new minimum wage, Ngige said that states would need to invite the workers' unions to negotiate the consequential adjustments arising from the new minimum wage rather than applying the principle of percentage increase across board.

The minister recalled the mistake made in 2011 by some states when they applied the principle of percentage increase across board and ran into trouble, and were not able to pay.

He said that going by percentages, the N30,000 minimum wage translates to a 67 per cent increase.
"If a state government applies the same 67 per cent increase across board, there will be serious trouble; the same with the federal government and when there is that troublez there will be trade dispute, " he stated.

The minister however allayed the fears of state governments, saying that there is an aspect of the labour law that allows for dialogue and negotiations on how each state graduate the wage bill to enable them fulfill their obligations to workers.

"If I am unable to pay and my workers know that I am unable to pay. We will sit down and agree on what I am able to pay. So, there is a baseline now as no worker in Nigeria should earn anything less than N30,000 provided that the establishment has more than 25 workers," he said.

Speaking with regard to his query to the leadership of the TUC and NUPENG, Ngige said that both unions were found to have breached the provisions of the Trade Unions Act.

He said both NUPENG and TUC were in breach of Section 37(i) and that the Registrar of Trade Union invoked Section 40 of the Trade Unions Act Cap T.14(LFN) 2004 which gives him power to request that all the books of accounts of defaulting unions be submitted to the Registrar's office for further scrutiny to make for accountability in the management of the unions' funds, which are check-off dues of workers deducted at source from their salaries .

However, he said that while the TUC leadership had since made representation pleading for time to enable it meet up with the legal provision, their NUPENG counterpart has failed to give any explanation but rather chose to exhibit arrogance.

Ubi Franklin gets shaded by ex-business partner, Iyanya
In what seems like shots fired, Nigerian singer, Iyanya, shakes table with ex-business partner, Ubi Franklin, perched atop it.

Iyanya shared a quote this morning and we can only guess who he is referring to.

The post, which he has now taken down form his InstaStory, reads;

For some.. Lies and deception come all too easily, it is done so often they don't even know what is true and what is a lie. They have no conscience and believe that consequences won't apply to them… this is the way of a COWARD. Rest assured, I stand by my word and there will be consequences to pay.. Karma

This is coming during the calling out of music executive, Ubi Franklin, by different women, for defrauding them of millions of Naira.

Recall that, few months ago, Iyanya publicly called out his former manager and business partner, Ubi Franklin accusing him of fraud. Ubi has since been in the news for a lot of wrong reasons since the Iyanya 'tell it all'.

RMD: ‘Butt enlargement and boob lift, cannot make you truly happy’

Posted: 27 May 2019 03:00 AM PDT

RMD: 'Butt enlargement and boob lift, cannot make you truly happy'
Nigerian Actor, Richard Mofe-Damijo took to his IG page today to write on finding true happiness.

In his piece, RMD pointed out that having some set goals such as weight loss, marriage, having kids, getting a butt enlargement or a boob lift cannot guarantee true happiness.

In his opinion, true happiness comes when one does not seek validation from others to live life on their own terms.

Read his post below

"Having been there and done that, I can tell you for free that weight loss, weight gain, butt enlargement, boob lift, marriage, buying/building your own house, having kids, wearing expensive clothes and shoes CANNOT make you truly happy. Mostly, the things we do to show others we are beautiful, made, tough and/or connected are things that magnify our insecurities. A man who is secure in himself has no urge to flaunt wealth, I'm yet to see Alh.

Dangote post a picture of his "machines" or of him "chilling in his private jet". A woman who is secure in her looks has no urge to go under the knife for enhancement, think Michelle Obama. True happiness comes from knowing who you are (self discovery) and loving yourself, "even though…" Anyone who can live without caring about the validation of others is the one who has found true happiness."

It has been sixteen years of loving and mature understanding. Sixteen years of sharing same vision, dreams, aspirations as a result of divine love. We have been moving from glorious heights to glorious heights. Ubi Franklin’s 4th babymama spits after he denied pregnancy

Posted: 27 May 2019 02:00 AM PDT

Ubi Franklin's 4th babymama spits after he denied pregnancy
"Other women Ubi has scammed and abused can keep quiet but I would not"

Ubi Franklin's alleged 4th babymama, Sandra Iheuwa, the U.S-based Nigerian business woman has taken to Instagram to call him out, revealing shocking things about the celeb.

In a post she shared on her page, Sandra said that she met Ubi in May 2017 in London during her vacation and that they became very close to the extent that Ubi allegedly asked for a Loan of N8 million which she gave to him. He however failed to pay back the money in full. Sandra claims that an agreement was drawn by her lawyer and Ubi has paid N4 million, but is still owing her the balance of N4 million. Sandra says she wants her money back and will be filing a suit against him on Monday May 27th.

She accused Ubi of paying for publications to be put out to tarnish her image. She says she is fighting him publicly to save his next victim.

Read what she wrote as well as the screengrabs of the court paper below.

As you all know there has been rumors about me and I would like to clear the air on these issues once. .
.
I work hard for my money and I have been through a lot to get to where I am now. To be a woman financially independent without any man's help. I did all this without the help of any sugar daddy runs or selling my body. I am an adult and who I chose to be with is my decision.
.
I met Ubi Franklin in May 2017 at a concert while on vacation in London I had no idea he was a celebrity or public figure a friend of mine told me who he was. We exchanged contacts and started talking. I returned to America where we later met up during one of his visits.
.
As a business woman I could easily relate with him and found him interesting which he said the same about me. Down the line he came to me seeking funds to help push his business and I totally understood how it felt when money could stop you from achieving your business dreams. During this time we became very close.
.
I offered to loan him the sum of Eight million naira not including the ones I gave him in dollars to help with child support and other issues he had. So I got my lawyer draw up a final settlement agreement letter which he agreed to sign as well as his lawyer and agreed to pay on March 8th 2019. .
.
Ubi Franklin has been going around tarnishing my image since December 2018 paying bloggers to write fake stories about me to save his image and y'all know I havent said a word and kept quiet but enough is enough as there's so much one can take, he can do it with other people but not me because this woman has had enough. .
.
There are rumors flying around saying that I was engaged please if you bought a ring and engaged me or paid my brides price from May 2017 till date please speak up biko so I will know I have a husband to be that I am not aware of. .
.
I challenge you Ubi Franklin to dispute my claims because I'm ready to fight you fire for fire with concrete and hard proof. I want my money remaining 4 million as proceeding will be filed in court on Monday morning. The same way you have an image to save it's the same way I will save and protect mine.
