Aisha Abubakar's Resort 2019 colletion: "Northern Star"

Posted: 28 Jun 2019 04:03 AM PDT

Aisha Abu Bakr comes through with her Resort 2019 collection: 'Northern Star'
The pieces are absolutely stunning and should serve as a guiding light in the world of modest fashion.

The popularity of modest fashion is increasing. Traditionally, dressing conservatively and keeping everything covered conflicted with what, if we're going by the mainstream fashion world view, was considered 'fashionable' or 'trendy'.

However, we are become increasingly aware of growing demographics who do want to be modest and look good whilst doing it and we are seeing people's attitudes towards style become more open-minded. As a result, modest fashion and emerging modest designers are on the rise.

In Nigeria, a country that is just under 50% Muslim, this is even more pertinent as young, female, Muslims are looking to be including and represented in all Lifestyle spheres, particularly fashion. This gives way to young designers such as Aisha Abu Bakr, an Abuja based fashion brand who have just released their resort 2019 collection dubbed 'Northern Star'.

The name of the collection is inspired by the northern star which is the brightest star in the constellation and that is how the designer views every and any woman wearing a piece of this collection; the brightest star in their constellation.

For this collection, the designer takes the brand on a journey of a culture merger between western and south eastern Nigeria. The technique of hand dye and batik which originates from western Nigeria and the Nsibidi language symbols which are used in the hand dye originally from south eastern Nigeria are both employed.

The print portrays Love and Unity as these are Nsibidi signs used. The designer's creative license is visible in the collection as there is a balance between modern trends and cultural inspiration.

Every item of the collection will appeal to ladies across different age spectrums. From minis skirts to maxi dresses, be prepared to shine as bright as the Northern star.

COZA Pastor Saga: Reason Busola Dakolo’s rape story is false – Omokri(Video)

Posted: 28 Jun 2019 03:58 PM PDT

Reno Omokri

Former President Goodluck Jonathan's aide, Reno Omokri, has faulted the rape allegations by Timi Dakolo's wife, Busola, against the Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo, founder of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly, COZA.

Recall that Busola Dakolo has accused the COZA Pastor of rape.

According to Busola, who is a mother of 3, explained how Pastor Fatoyinbo allegedly forced his way into her when she was a teenager, Daily Post reports.

Busola's allegations have since stirred reactions from Nigerians and celebrities on social media.

Reno Omokri, while reacting to the story, said Dakolo's narration of how she was raped is not plausible, adding that Pastor Fatoyinbo is too 'sleek to rape an underage girl'.

According to him, though he does not like the COZA Pastor, the story does not add up and 'rings false'.

Omokri wrote: "I have never liked Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo of Coza global for reasons that I will not say publicly. However, I am mature enough to divorce my emotions and be led by logic. And I counsel those now condemning him to do the same.

"The average Black African is easily moved to hysteria by excitable emotions. This is why it is ridiculously easy to manipulate Africans with the media Satan does his best work with such people, who can't suppress emotion in preference to logic.

"Think. Don't emote. A pastor comes to your house early in the morning. He does not know who will open when he knocks, or who is at home. He knocks and immediately you open he pushed you to a chair and raped you in your pajamas. Do people think?

"Even the most useless movie director won't accept such a plot in a B rated Hollywood/Nollywood/Bollywood movie. A movie has to have plausibility. I don't like pastor Fatoyinbo, but I won't suspend my intellect because of my dislike of the fellow.

"After he allegedly raped you, you kept quiet for enough time for him to go to his car and get a soda drink for you? It does not ADD UP. My dislike for Biodun Fatoyinbo won't make me become a slanderer by default. This story rings very false.

"I am an advocate of morality. I publicly preach against premarital and extramarital sex. I pastored a congregation in Abuja for years. I will NEVER, EVER, support RAPE. But Satan is going about like a roaring lion seeking whom to consume!

"Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo is SLEEK. Too sleek for my liking. What type of sleek man will rape an underage girl in her parent's house? While her siblings are at home. And then leave her to go get a drink from his car. Is this mass HYPNOSIS.

"Do we Black African of the Nigerian variety think at all? Do we only exist in the soulish realm? I have a Masters in Law from England. The story cannot stand up in court. The story cannot stand up in the light of cross-examination.

"I give you my word that if you gave satan 10 minutes to manipulate the minds of Nigerians, he will get a sizeable number of Nigerians to believe that Jesus is evil and the satan is good. We are too gullible, excitable and emotional."

Awkward things that often happen when friends sleep with each other

Posted: 28 Jun 2019 03:44 AM PDT

Awkward things that often happen when friends sleep with each other
It really is difficult to escape all the pitfalls that come with sleeping with a close friend.

Opposites ex friendships are usually all well and good , really, until sexual attraction builds up and sex sneaks into the picture.

"Oh, we are mature" and "it's just sex, we can always handle ourselves," are the well-used responses you get from people who have been going down with their friends.

But here's the thing, no matter how chill or mature you think you are, you can't escape all the pitfalls that come with sleeping with a friend.

So before you do it with that close friend, here are some of the awkward moments and problems you really should consider.

When they get someone else

So you sleep with them and a new partner comes into the picture shortly after. That awkward moment when she introduces you to the new guy as her close friend but you both know you are not just a good friend.

And then there's the problem of that partner finding out later that he/she isn't just your friend.

So you're faced with confessing and losing one of your friend or partner, or facing that awkward moment when your partner confronts you with the truth that he/she found out from someone else.

Oh dear.

Recurrence

The understated struggle that comes out of this kind of situation is how to minimise the 'damage' that has been done.

Quite a number of first-time friends sex happen in moments of rashness or uncontrolled excitement and friends would ideally love to keep it at that single time, but to continue being friends and keep the sex from recurring is one helluva difficult task you'd better avoid.

Opinions and judgements become questioned

It becomes strange to go to this person, who you slept with, to talk about your heartbreaks and dating life.

It used to be normal and OK to seek their opinions before the sex happened, but not anymore. Their opinion somehow appears coloured by personal interests in you.

Pure intentions?

You also call their actions to question. Whatever he or she does might get interpreted as a calculated move to get back in bed with you - especially if the first time was really bomb.

Things won't be the same again

Seven out of 10 times, you won't be able to get your friendship back to what it was before.

Once you go down that thin road, that relationship dynamic changes. Usually from good to bad.

Here's why Fireboy is on a mission to sing solely Afropop that makes sense

Posted: 28 Jun 2019 03:35 AM PDT

Here's why Fireboy is on a mission to sing solely Afropop that makes sense
Fireboy DML is the current poster boy for Olamide's YBNL and he's on a mission to sing Afropop that makes sense.

After the exit of Adekunle Gold and Lil Kesh from YBNL, Fireboy has taken the front seat in repositioning YBNL.
An indigene of Ogun state, who was born Adedamola Adefolahan in the mid-90s, Fireboy DML says his decision to solely sing Afropop genre that makes sense all the time is to stand him apart and make him unique.

"Basically, I do Afropop. I started with Afropop and along the line, I realised that there are a lot of Afropop artists, A-list ones, big artists so if anyone wants to listen to Afropop, they will go for those ones, they have their choices. So I said, I have to have something that sets me apart, so I decided to do Afropop that makes sense most of the time and all the time," Fireboy DML said in an interview with Nigeria Info FM in 2018.

Music for Fireboy had always been innate but the thought of going professional and mainstream didn't cross his mind till he got to Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, where he had gotten admission to study the English Language.

The lanky singer synonymous with different colours of Durang narrates his journey into professional music saying, "The thing is I knew I could sing at a very young age but I did not know I had to go into it professionally until I was in school."

"My part one in the university was good but in my part two, I focused so much on music that it affected my education a bit but I knew I had to find a balance but I won't lie, I gave my all to the music," he told Sahara TV in 2019 interview.

Continuing the 23-year-old 'Jealous' singer who once said he never found his purpose for living until he found music says, "I went to school solely to study but along the line, I found my purpose while in Secondary school."

In another interview with Sahara TV, Fireboy said the hit song, 'Jealous' was inspired by a similar experience.

'Jealous' introduced Fireboy DML to the world but there is a story behind the hit song.

"Jealous is not a heartbreak song, it's not a love song. It's a song about an experience I had with someone who is not even mine, I was getting possessive, obsessive and jealous. So, I just decided to write about it to relive the experience. I didn't write it for anybody, in particular, it was just for the experience," he said.

Since gaining Olamide's attention, Fireboy has patiently waited for his time until December 2018 when his hit song, 'Jealous' made the joint effort by music acts on YBNL tagged, 'YBNL Mafia'.

He has since been riding on the success and working to keep up with the release of his second single on YBNL imprint, 'What If I Say.'

The singer says his watchword is to always make good songs. "Hit or not, my next song has to be good. When I worked on jealousy, I didn't make the song because I knew it will be a hit but I put my all in it to make a good song and that is the same energy I put in all my songs," he told Sahara TV.

Olamide is not living any stone unturned in making a star out of Fireboy, who has dropped his second visuals and single on the imprint of YBNL.

Marriage is not a reward – Lady says to man who slammed ‘rude, careless’ single women

Posted: 28 Jun 2019 02:30 AM PDT

A Nigerian man named Akinbosola on Twitter shared a tweet which has sparke controversy online. In his tweet, he spoke about 'rude and careless' single ladies.

The young guy damned these set of unmarried women to their father's house if they continued to be mannerless. This tweet of his attracted the attention of a lot of people. Several comments were posted in reaction to the post. Out of the reactions, however, one particularly stood out.

The comment which was made by a lady named Eketi centered on the fact that single ladies are not exactly desperate to get married.

In driving her point home, Eketi pointed out that some ladies own houses while others actually love their father's homes. Hence, marriage should not be considered a reward for good behaviour.

These are what the former housemates of Big Brother Naija season 3 have been up to

Posted: 28 Jun 2019 02:00 AM PDT

So before the next edition of Big Brother Naija kicks off, we would love to find out where these guys have been and what they have been up to

It's a few days before the next edition of the much awaited Big Brother Season four kicks off and the expectations are really wild.
We all know the organisers of the reality TV show has always had a thing for keeping viewers at the edges of their seats throughout the duration of the show. However, the last season of Big Brother Naija gave birth to a new crop of celebrities and stars. Some of the ex-housemates were able to capitalise on the exposure the reality TV show gives, to put themselves out in the forefront.

However, not all reality TV stars have been able to keep up with the requirements of being a reality TV star. Maybe for those ones, staying away from the limelight was the plan and for those who have continued to bask in the euphoria of appearing on a reality TV show, they have continued to be on the lips of fans and virtually everyone within and outside the country.

So before the next edition of Big Brother Naija kicks off, we would love to find out where these guys have been and what they have been up to.

Miracle kicks off this list because like we all know, he was the winner of the 'Double Wahala' edition of Big Brother Naija. He was one of the most talked about housemates while in the house and his tactics (If any) worked out for him. After emerging as the winner of the show, many expected the Imo state born pilot to become a regular face at every show and event...well he had other plans.

Miracle went on to further his education as a pilot as he travelled out of the country after the show. However, before leaving, he paid a visit to the then governor of his state, Rochas Okorocha who promised to help him with the finances for his education. On Tuesday, June 25, 2019, Miracle announced that he had just been certified as an 'Instrument Rated' pilot! Thumbs up bruhhhh!

Tobi

For everyone who watched every single episode of BBNaija season 3, we all know how the emergence of one of the most talked about reality tv star came about. Tobi came into the house with an already existing swag which was kind of infectious and got all the guys and especially the ladies talking.

Even though he didn't win the reality tv show, Tobi has become one of the biggest celebrities of his time. From cornering some really amazing endorsement deals to showing up at events looking like a million bucks, Tobi is going to be around for a long time.

Cee-C

Where do we even start from with this beautiful and fierce young lady called Cee-C? Her participation in Big Brother Naija saw the rise of what we would like to cult-like followership on social media. Everyone wanted to talk about and meet Cee-C...her perceived 'arrogance' while in the house made her a focal point for conversations everywhere.

Well, like every smart person with the right PR team, Cee-C capitalised on her popularity to not only get mouthwatering endorsement deals but visit and attend high-class events. She has continued to wax stronger, relentless and trust us, her fans have continued to protect her interest on social media.

Bam Bam

No one expected Bam Bam to become an overnight sensation after spending weeks at the Big Brother house. Well her steamy and romantic relationship with fellow housemate, Teddy A kind of aided in showcasing the beautiful woman.

Since leaving the BBNaija house, Bam Bam just like some other housemates has been busy conquering the world with her beauty. From showing up at events with her man by her side and an Instagram page with the most beautiful photos, Bam Bam hasn't really done badly for herself. Lest we forget, she got a car gift from her fans during her last birthday we were not really surprised.

Teddy A

Teddy A came into the Big Brother house with that 'Bad boy going to show all the women pepper' look. And he kind of disappointed all the players because the one person they were rooting for turned out to be a one lady's man. His romantic relationship with Bam Bam made him popular within and outside the house.

Teddy A has done a couple of modeling jobs after leaving the house and his Instagram page has given us a bit of his itinerary. We all thought by now he would be one of the biggest music stars but that hasn't materialised. We haven't given up on Teddy A on his music career...let's see how that plays out.

Ifu-Ennada

Ifu Ennada was already a rising star before going to the Big Brother Naija house. Even though she was one of the housemates who gave us a reason to watch the show every day, her stay in the house was cut short after a number of weeks.

Since leaving the house, Ifu has been really busy trying to use her BBNaija experience to cash out. From hosting events to even starting her own cosmetic line, this Igbo babe hasn't been joking. However, she has been involved in some controversial moments which we think has worked in her favour.

Princess

Princess was actually one of the housemates we expected to get to the house and turn things upside down. Well, it turned out that she was just one beautiful and quiet woman with a fierce look. She played fairly in the house and got evicted after fans felt her time was up.

Much wasn't heard about the beautiful corporate beauty turned reality tv star until recently when she dragged former Big Brother Africa winner, Uti for saying Cee-C was the most successful housemate from their time in the house. Yes, guys, the housemates from season 3 are really controversial.

Anto

The beautiful and eloquent Anto from the beginning of her entrance into the house known to be gentle and mild. Anto's romantic link with fellow housemate Lolu was seen as that 'undergrad innocent love story' which everyone admired. She was one of the housemates who got a second chance to come back to the house, even though it didn't get her to the finale.

Anto got involved in a car crash after leaving the house and she survived it with just a few bruises. These days you are sure to see the former basketball manager on the cover for different designers. Let's also add that Anto has become a regular face at high-class events and she always comes looking stunning.

Cash Money's Birdman and Benny Boom to provide the necessary financing to market and distribute, 'Tazmanian Devil'

Posted: 28 Jun 2019 01:30 AM PDT

The partnership between Birdman and Solomon Onita to make a new film also has Benny Boom on board.

Cash Money's Birdman and Benny Boom to provide the necessary financing to market and distribute, 'Tazmanian Devil'
Interestingly, 'Tazmanian Devil' is a first for many of its main players. The film is the first feature film to be made by Onita Jr. and the first feature film from Birdman's Cash Money films.

Birdman and Boom will be providing the necessary financing to market and distribute the independent feature.

The film, which was written and directed by Onita Jr., is poised to position the filmmaker in Hollywood.

According to a recent report by Deadline, principal photography was wrapped earlier in 2019 and the film has gone into the post-production stage.

'Tazmanian Devil' features 'Beasts of No Nation' actor, Abraham Attah, '12 Years a Slave' actress, Adepero Oduye, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, 'Black Panther' actor, David Opegbemi and Kwesi Boakye.

Speaking on the project, Birdman said, "I am honored to work with Benny; we share a great history in the music business over the past 20 years. Benny and I have often discussed making films together and this project presented us with the perfect opportunity to produce a great movie."

'Tazmanian Devil' is produced by Tricia Woodgett of TigerEye Films while Gerald Rawles joins Birdman and Boom as executive producer.

Onita Jr. has worked on a few short films which include 'My Joy' which featured 'Black Panther's Sope Aluko and aired on HBO in 2016.

In 2016, the filmmaker returned to Nigeria to attend the African International Film Festival, AFRIFF.

'Tazmanian Devil' tells the story of a young Nigerian, who moved from Nigeria to the United States of America to be with his estranged father and got involved in a college fraternity.

Speaking on the film, Onita Jr. said his first feature film makes a positive case for fraternity.

"This film is a film that deals with fraternity culture, this film makes a positive case for fraternities rather than just repeating all time stereotypes... I believe the film with resonate with a large audience because it's an immigrant story, and people who are not native to this land will find a lot of honesty, a lot of truth... I believe this film will grab a lot of attention and show a more accurate view of what this organisation means to its members," he said in an interview with BET Networks.

Speaking on filmmaking, Onita Jr. said, "Filmmaking and storytelling are important to me because it gives me a voice, it allows me to explore my different personalities within different character. It allows me to express a diverse point of view, it allows me to put all of my ideas and concepts and put them in the face of a character. Filmmaking also gives me a way to dive into social and cultural issues and it allows me to expand on the different perspectives that you see in different communities. It transports you and takes you to all aspects of life."

Bryan "Birdman" Williams is on the project with his Cash Money Films and Benny Boom is on the project with his Groundwurk Studios.
