RMD Is That Nollywood Legend Who Wants To ‘play God’

Posted: 28 Sep 2019 11:30 PM PDT

RMD's major wish at the moment is to play the role of God in a film or major television series.

At 58, Richard Mofe Damijo - widely referred to as RMD - has achieved so much after leaving Warri in Delta state with high hopes of making it big in Lagos.

A young RMD looked up to major Nigerian TV stars - Jide Ogungbade, Jimi Solanke, Sola Omole - and just wanted to emulate their brilliance matched with fame. Little did he know fate had so much in store for him until 1988.

In his early days in Lagos, RMD worked as a reporter in newspaper houses that include Concord and Guardian.

Though he studied Theatre Arts at the University of Benin, he didn't get the chance to show his skills until he featured in a popular TV soap opera, 'Ripples'. The soap opera ran for five years on NTA and laid the foundation and making of a Nollywood legend.

In 1991, RMD's acting ability was yet again called upon by the late Amaka Igwe for a role in hit soap opera, 'Checkmate'. For three years - 1991 to 1994 - RMD held Nigerian audience spellbound as Segun Kadiri, the most notable enemy of the Haatrope dynasty, who later fell in love with Ann Haatrope.

28 years after leaving an indelible mark in the memories of viewers and fans across the globe, RMD feels though the audience is the same and are now more spoiled for choice, he has gained more fans.

He said, "I think viewers are the same. They are spoiled for choices now. So that's what has changed from the days' world to now. The TV has left the screen, the wall, the big screen TV has lifted since or I would like to say content has left the big screen, it's now on the phone. So YouTube, there are all kinds of things, you know, people are just there is complete disruption. So people are spoiled for choice about the audience. They like what they like, and how have I been able to sustain it? Or do I still think that I have the power to attract people to watch what I do? I think I've gained more audience if anything, and I'm grateful for that because I never take my audience for granted.

"For me, every encounter every chance to be on stage you're to be in the film or to be in TV series is a chance to say thank you to the audience and once you operate how this theory of acting that it is not about stylistics, is not about being a method actor or being .... It's about, you know, the sincerity of purpose, it's about love for what you're doing and true commitment to what you do.

"So if I'm playing a role, once there is a sincere approach to the role then people can connect, there is no magic to it, you know, call it whatever name you want to call it, people will empathize with you, once you are able to connect with them. It's almost spiritual. And so once the circle, once you have been able to reach them, that circle continues and the energy just grows and grows and grows and grows and never diminishes, you know, so because I do that all the time, I contact my audience all the time, and I express how grateful I am to always be able to stand in front of them. They give me back giving me back means just applauding, you know, and that that that is always something that I will forever be grateful about."

It's been over 30 years in the world of make-believe and RMD has acted in a little over 60 films but currently, he dreams of acting God.

"I wanna play God, it is one of my bucket lists. I have played the devil in another film, 'Made in Heaven.' I missed the chance to play God recently, so but I want to play God, I want to play God. I played I think I played the president. I want to play God. Yeah. I just want to play God, I want to play God's character. It's funny, but since I watched 'Oh my God by this old actor and then when I saw Amitabh Bachchan, the Indian actor in (God Tussi Great Ho), now that I have some grays, so by the time I'm probably 60 something and the greys are little bit greyer, like snow white, I would probably get a role to play God or I write one myself," he told Pulse in an exclusive chat.

For a man who enjoys love from millions of fans for being imbued with the ability to interpret roles convincingly, his filmography would have been expected to be higher than a little over 60. However, the ex-Special Adviser and ex-Commissioner in Delta state say 'it's not about the number of films you do, but the quality of the films that you do.'

"In the prolific period of Nollywood as it were, I didn't jump on every bandwagon or on every film that came my way. I've always tried to be very selective about the kind of films I did. And in a lot in a lot of ways I feel very blessed that you know, my, my little body of work can kind of compare with any other person's body of work. For me, it is not about the number of films you do, but the quality of the films that you do. I didn't see a lot of films that I did at that time," RMD says as he explains reasons for appearing in a little over 60 movies in over three decades.

The lawyer, PR consultant, actor and politician says not many of his fans and colleagues know that he has an aversion to watching himself because he is own biggest critic.

He says, "Apart from few films like 'Violated' and 'Out of bounds' and maybe any other film that had a premiere, most of the other films that came out them, I didn't watch. I cringe when I watch myself, so when I'm in a premiere, I watch others watching me because it's like there are a thousand and one ways I could have done it. If I do something twice, I'll do it differently. So I have this serious aversion to watching myself."

RMD believes that actors don't retire, hence, he believes roles will always come as long as people breathe. He goes to say people will always want to escape or want to be entertained or want to be taught a lesson or something, so roles will always be there for any good actor to interpret.

Cardi B reveals she in new documentary that was sexually harassed by a photographer

In a new documentary, Cardi B shares with fans how she was sexually harassed by a photographer during a photo shoot.

Cardi B in a new episode of an upcoming documentary, "Untold Stories of Hip Hop," which is going to be aired on WE TV will be sharing with her fans her experience with sexual harassment.

The rapper, mum and wife who has always been open to fans about her personal life in the first episode revealed how she was sexually harassed by a photographer during a photo shoot. According to her, she couldn't believe that she was been harassed by the said photographer.

It didn't end there as she revealed that even though she reported the incident to the editor of the magazine, his response was even more shocking.

"I was like, '[You're] f**king bugging. You know what? I'm out,'" she continued. "You know what's so crazy? I told the magazine owner and he just looked at me like, 'So? And?'"

A few months ago, Cardi B was dragged on social media after a clip where she bragged about drugging and robbing men surfaced. She, however, went on to apologise for her decision.

Kemi Olunloyo officially reveals that Busola Dakolo’s rape allegations against Pastor Biodun were all scripted lies.

Posted: 28 Sep 2019 04:30 AM PDT

Investigative reporter, Kemi Olunloyo has officially stated via her Instagram page that Busola Dakolo's rape acusation against Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo of Coza is a sham and a plot by her husband, Timi Dakolo to make Pastor Biodun step down.

According to reporter Kemi Olunloyo, Busola was allegedly raped in a doggy style by someone else in the bush on her way to drop her off from baby sitting, but definitely not Pastor Biodun.

Kemi alleged that Busola's statements were scripted lies and they were stolen from 'Pastor Andy Savage's ordeal with a youth in America' who he drove home and sexually assaulted.

Their plan however failed, because from their script, Pastor Andy stepped down, but Pastor Biodun is still standing strong.

Kemi further stated that Busola claimed her sexual ordeal with the pastor of Coza messed up her 'marital sex life', yet she has three children for Timi and even celebrated her anniversary vibrantly.

Kemi concluded her post, saying that Busola should keep disgracing herself on orders of her husband Timi Dakolo.
'continue disgracing yourself on orders of your husband. God is watching', she said.

"You have body odour, you smell" — Mercy drags Tacha, as they almost exchange blows

This morning, Mercy and Tacha were at it after they almost got physical immediately after this morning's early work out.

Just after the early morning work out, a quarrel brew between Tacha and Mercy which quickly escalated into a fight. Omashola came in between them to stop the fight as Tacha started pulling Mercy's wig.

This fight comes a few days after she fought Diane and Omashola over robes.

Tacha and Mercy are the biggest rivals in this year's edition of Big Brother Naija. Somehow they have been on each other's neck and today they took their subtle dislike for each other to the next level.

Posted: 28 Sep 2019 03:00 AM PDT

Evicted BBNaija housemate, Tuoyo, has shared how he truly feels about Diane.

These said feelings are now only being expressed after Diane became one of the finalists of the show and some loyal fans are questioning the authenticity of Tuoyo's proclaimed feelings.

However, many can remember that things were getting pretty intense between the two housemates before he got evicted but as the holy book says, old things are passed away.

I've been waiting for the perfect opportunity to say this🙈…. But I'll say this now; I am a huge fan of Diane and I miss her so much😢….congratulations on Qualifying to the finals😁👌🏾… Can't wait for the show to be over so that I can give her a very tight hug…😊😊😉

Bishop David Oyedepo of 'Living Faith Church' Turns 65

Posted: 28 Sep 2019 12:30 AM PDT

The Winner-Man, Bishop David Oyedepo, otherwise known as Papa by his teeming followers and admirers, is a no-nonsense fire-brand preacher, teacher and faith entrepreneur of the highest order.

A stickler for excellence, this Christian professional (architect) is doubtless one of a kind! He has managed to form a perfect blend of discipline, spirituality, visionary leadership and entrepreneurship.

Although his galaxy of achievements is up there for all to see, many still find it difficult to comprehend how an individual could consistently maintain such a flawless trajectory in life and still have enough smiles to spare.

Bishop Oyedepo can safely be referred to as the Encyclopaedia Biblica. He reels out scriptures endlessly verbatim in his teachings and sermons even without opening the Bible. This is the result of 'eating' the word and 'vomiting' it fully digested, for the edification of his audience.

The Bishop is also a voracious-reader of both scriptural and secular literature in an endless quest for knowledge. He is a believer in versatility and does not believe in mediocrity under the guise of spiritualism as lots of modern-day Christians are wont to do.

In coming up with this write-up, it took a great effort to dig down deep enough to find any additional information about this exceptional man of God. Being an author par excellence, he has written a lot to provide uncommon practical 'insights-to-life' for his teeming audience. Similarly, a lot has been written about him, both online and offline. I discovered a key cited in the Biblical book of Matthew, Chapter 6, Verse 33. This seemingly innocuous scripture known to all is the driving force behind Papa's colossal imagery. He has been able to master its simplistic implications and blended it with personal discipline, honesty, forthrightness and complete faith in God.

Another open-secret of Papa's success is his amiable wife and partner, Mama Faith Abiola Oyedepo. Papa received double ordination together with her, first by Daddy G.O. Pastor Enoch Adeboye and later by Kenneth Copeland. To any man of wisdom, it's clear that behind every successful man, there is a woman dutifully fulfilling her God-ordained role of helpmate. It's no mere coincidence that Mama was rechristened 'Faith', which is the central theme of the entire Winners Ministries. Mama Faith Oyedepo is an authority on family life, marital success, youth and women empowerment. She has produced great offspring in David Jnr, Isaac, Joy and Love. She consistently makes great impact in the lives of the underprivileged through her Faith Abiola Oyedepo Foundation.

Papa's humble beginning started on September 27, 1954 in the quiet, ancient town of Osogbo. He was born into a mixed-religion (Muslim/Christian combo) parental background, native of Omu-Aran in Kwara State. Papa inculcated spiritual discipline early enough, especially in the areas of prayerfulness and tithing. These virtues provided a solid foundation for Papa's astronomical success. Papa officially became born again in 1969 under the guidance of his high-school teacher, Betty Lasher.

As an architect, he had a stint with the Federal Ministry of Housing before resigning into full time ministry. Papa would later receive a PhD in Human Development from the Honolulu University, Hawaii, USA.

His major break in life came through in an 18-hour vision from God in May 1981. The vision led him to establish the Living Faith Church Worldwide, initially called Liberation Faith Hour Ministries.

The Living Faith Church (Winners Chapel International) started in Kaduna and later moved to Lagos and then to the present headquarters at Canaan Land, Ota. The land area here which was virtually a virgin land covering over 500 hectares is an example of a well-planned urban development, including a university, a mega housing estate, a mega power plant, a mega church auditorium and everything you will expect from a well-organized government. The 50,000-capacity auditorium presently runs about four services every Sunday, each always filled to capacity.

The Ministry of Bishop Oyedepo has a unique signature, centred on the theme of Faith and Dominion Prosperity. It is built on the principle of putting God first, as captured in the verse in Matthew 6:33. The Bishop deliberately encourages all his followers, mentees and associates to spare no effort in planting sacrificial seeds in the vineyard of God as the master key to personal and corporate exponential growth. This principle is openly practiced by Papa himself.

The fighting spirit in him also recognizes the need for effectual deployment of the entire Christian arsenal, including praise-worship, fervent prayers, prophetic utterances and blessings. The father-figure in Papa spans the Nigerian religious landscape with many notable men of God openly affirming him as their mentor.

The ministry of Bishop Oyedepo transcends spirituality to include service to mankind in the areas of basic needs, such as housing, education, charity, entrepreneurship, leadership and a host of others. Based on his effectual teachings, the church has experienced monumental growth, locally and internationally. An insight into the magnitude can be gleaned from statistics. The Living Faith Church Worldwide is a mega church with a global network in more than 65 countries. Between April and September alone, over 5,000 new branches of the church were established.

Most of the achievements of Bishop Oyedepo are in the public domain. However, it is necessary to mention a few of the less visible ones, especially his authorship of many bestsellers on themes such as Faith, Destiny, Breakthroughs, Wisdom, the Supernatural, Prayers, Divine Health, etc. We capture some of his philosophies in quotes such as, "it's character that gives birth to capacity. The loss of character is equal to the loss of everything"; "don't let life master you. You must learn to master life"; "your dream of getting to the top may not be fully realized if all you are doing is merely wishing and not working". Times magazine once asked Papa why he works so hard and does not take off time to rest, since as the saying goes, "all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy". His response was simply, "it depends on the kind of work Jack is doing".

As the whole world celebrates Bishop Oyedepo @ 65, l do join others to wish him many more fulfilling years ahead. It's my fervent prayer that God Almighty blesses this nation with more entrepreneurial champions of Papa's ilk.

May Papa's later life be greater than the sum of his existence so far! Long live Papa, Bishop David Oyedepo!

Runtown thrills Trace Live! crowd at Terra Kulture

Posted: 28 Sep 2019 12:30 AM PDT

On the night of September 25, 2019, Nigerian singer, Runtown thrilled his fans at a Trace Live! event which held at Terra Kulture, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The event was meant to kick-start another leg of his Sound God Africa Tour which has already visited African cities like Freetown. The tour is set to take Runtown to 18 countries in Africa. But as part of the first dates, he did one for the ones at home.

The event was attended by artists like Patoranking, Prettyboy D-O, Wurld and so forth who stood at the foot of the stage to cheer Runtown as he performed hit after hit. The event started at 9:43 pm in the evening when the MC for the evening ushered Runtown's band - which is heavily talented by the way - into the shimmering neon lights.

A moment later, two female singers took their place behind the leading mic as the band thrilled the fans with a thoroughly melodious instrumentation of alternative music. The bass guitar particularly made fans feel alive.

At 9:53 pm, Runtown made his way onto the stage as the fans roared and got on its feet. Around this time, camera phones also inundated views of the stage as people had to get one or two for Instagram and Snapchat. The artist himself looked calm and laidback with an air of happiness apparent on him.

Spotting dark shades, braids, a white tee, a red shirt and a pair of jeans, he performed the following songs in chronological order, 'Lucie,' 'Gallardo,' 'Emergency,' 'Lagos To Kampala,' ' Unleash,' ' 'Pain Killer,' 'Mad Over You (freestyle),' 'Said,' 'The Banger,' 'Goosebumps,' 'Energy,' 'Mad Over You,' and finally, 'International Bad Man Killer.'

For each song, there were key moments. For example, as he performed 'Lucie,' Runtown asked everybody to stand up as he wanted to feel the energy from the crowd and they gladly obliged - I mean, it's Runtown.

However, the instrumentation for 'Emergency' was bad as the band tried to do too much with uniqueness. This was regularized by 'Lagos To Kampala' as the two female back-up singers were just ridiculously brilliant.

Then the response from the crowd when 'Said' came up might have surprised one or two people. However, when 'The Banger' came after that, the energy could only be matched by how good the song is.

That said, the moment of the evening was when Runtown's saxophonist went crazy after Runtown gave him a minute to showcase his madness just before 'Energy' came to an end. He duly responded with one of the most beautiful live solos this writer has ever seen.

It was as magical as what Drake's Guitarist did during the London Wireless Festival in 2012.

After all has been said and done, Runtown needs to improve his stage craft. Sometimes, he mumbled through some songs and intermittently failed to rally the crowd with his stage presence. He's not terrrible, but he needs to improve.
