World Resources Institute (WRI) is an independent, nonprofit global research organization that turns big ideas into action at the nexus of environment, economic opportunity and human well-being. They are working to address critical challenges that the world must overcome this decade in order to secure a sustainable future for people and the planet: climate change, energy, food, forests, water, sustainable cities, and the ocean.

Internships at WRI are learning experiences designed for current students, recent graduates, or other candidates who wish to gain knowledge about a specific area of our work. They strive to attract diverse, intellectually-driven candidates who have a passion for sustainability and development. WRI provides many internship opportunities throughout the year in all their programs.

Program Overview
The WRI Energy Program is rapidly expanding its scope and body of work in clean energy across the U.S. Through the Special Clean Power Council and development of the Renewable Energy Buyers Alliance, WRI has traditionally worked with utilities to drive new clean energy solutions. Recently, the WRI has partnered with Rocky Mountain Institute to form the American Cities Climate Challenge Renewables Accelerator which supports cities across the U.S. in meeting their renewable energy purchasing goals. In addition to working with utilities, customers, and now cities across the U.S., WRI has also begun to address the ability of electricity markets to respond to the growth of renewable energy development. The U.S. Energy intern will support activities across these bodies of work, as well as help fuel WRI's expansion into topics critical to the transformation of the electricity industry.

2020 Summer Scholars Program

Posted: 06 Nov 2019 07:13 AM PST

The Maryland Summer Scholars Program (MSS) provides opportunities for University of Maryland, College Park (UMD) undergraduates to spend much of the summer working closely with faculty mentors on ambitious research, scholarly, or artistic projects. The MSS program provides awards of $3,000 to approximately 25-30 undergraduates each summer.

Many Summer Scholars expand their summer research into an independent study or honors thesis project the following autumn semester, and find that their research experience helps distinguish their applications for graduate study, fellowships, internships, employment and other competitive opportunities.

Maryland Summer Scholars (MSS) may conduct their summer research on the College Park campus or elsewhere in the U.S. or abroad as required by the nature of the project. Students whose projects require travel for an extended period of time to off campus locations (not to include regular commuting) may submit a travel supplement request as directed in the online application form. Travel supplements will not exceed $1,000.

Eligibility: You are eligible to apply for an MSS award: if you have earned 12 or more UMD course credits (not including AP or IB credits) by the date of the application deadline; if you have a cumulative UMD GPA of 3.40 or higher by the date of the application deadline; and if you expect to receive your undergraduate degree no earlier than December 2020. All academic majors are eligible.
