Comedian Bovi describes his encounter with Tony Elumelu at the club

Posted: 06 Nov 2019 09:00 PM PST

So last week, comedian Bovi ran into the CEO of UBA bank, Tony Elumelu at the club and decided to impress the billionaire by asking him what he wanted to drink.

Well, the next few seconds of the billionaire contemplating on what to take sent chills down the spine of the comedian with is atm card in his pocket even feeling the pulse of his heartbeat just before Tony Elumelu demanded just what Bovi described as a common beer parlor beverage.

Here is how he narrated his experience through a post on his Instagram page;

"Ran into @tonyoelumelu in the club last week. Instead of me to just respect myself and greet and pass, I asked "oga what will you like to drink? It's on me. Anything". I was expecting a swift "no thank you". The next thing Oga put his fingers on his chin thinking . He looked to the adjacent table where some ladies had a bucket of champagne. My spirit ran and left me. Hey God, who send me? This man is about to order the rarest and most vintage bottle; some French name I can't even pronounce. Something I've never heard of. My debit card in my pocket started to run temperature. My bladder was full. My mouth was dry. My blood pressure was up. Instead of me to ask for family sponsorship, I went to ask a billionaire what he wants to drink and he was contemplating it. All this was like three seconds but it seemed like forever. With a smile oga turned to me and said "I will have a $&@;?)." Phew! Normal alcoholic beverage. Mtshewww! Normal beer parlor drink and I almost died for nothing. With a loud voice I shouted "bartender! Bring one crate of @($:&: for my chairman!"Of course he was going to have only one bottle. But I had to act like I wanted to spend like Fire."

APC CRISIS: ‘I was accused of conniving with Vice President to kill Buhari’ – Senator Abe takes Eze, others to court

APC CRISIS: 'I was accused of conniving with Vice President to kill Buhari' – Senator Abe takes Eze, others to court
Senator Magnus Ngei Abe

Senator Magnus Ngei Abe, Rivers South-East Senatorial District, former representative at the National Assembly, has given reasons he went to court against some persons who wrote libelous stories against him in the media.

According to a report by Daily Post, Magnus Abe, in a statement he entitled, "Rivers APC Crisis: No One Can Rewrite History," signed personally him on Wednesday, said Nigerians are aware that the crisis in the APC in Rivers State had its origin in the unconstitutional decision of the leader of the party in the State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi to summarily expel him, and other leaders of the party in the state that were sympathetic to his Governorship ambition for no discernible reason.

The former Rivers South-East Senatorial District representative, added that the Minister's directive to unilaterally exclude party members from all party activities without due process is also the origin and the root of the crisis in the party.

Abe said: "Indeed prior to the troubled congresses the then State Chairman of the party, Chief Ibiamo Ikanya called an all-inclusive stakeholders/state SEC meeting of Rivers APC where all the issues were amicably resolved, including the distribution of forms to all aspiring party members.

"An all-inclusive committee was set up to implement the resolutions of that meeting, as soon as the Minister was informed of this move, he not only dissolved the Committee but he voided the efforts and consensus decisions reached by the entire leadership.

"The Minister directed that in keeping with his earlier directives at the Dome, members of the party perceived as sympathetic to Senator Abe be excluded from the Congresses and denied the forms they paid for."

The former Chairman, Senate Committee on FERMA at the 8th National Assembly said those members, Ibrahim Umar and 22 others who went to court, rightfully secured an injunction on the facts but again the Minister directed the party to disobey. The rest, as they say, is history.

Abe further stated that he approached the courts because, in an unprecedented sponsored media campaign, the facts were buried and recrafted by one Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, a hired publicist for the minister who became the face of the attempt to rewrite history.

The former Senator said: "Those who went to Court were accused of working for Governor Wike and the PDP, the courts were promoted as Wike's supermarkets, some of Amaechi's publicist such as Oby Ndukwe, and Lucky Worlu went as far as accusing me of plotting with the Vice President to kill President Buhari and collecting billions of Naira from Governor Wike and the PDP to destabilize the APC in Rivers State.

"I was painted to the Nigerian public as a desperate politician who destroyed his party because of his personal ambition.

"These false and baseless allegations moved beyond the social media and became accepted as truth to a point where credible media [houses] were confident enough to carry this smear campaign on their pages and give it legitimacy and credibility.

"It is for this reason that I have instituted Suit No. PHC/3314/2019 – SENATOR MAGNUS ABE VS. 1. CHIEF EZE CHUKWUEMEKA EZE 2. VINTAGE PRESS LIMITED (Publisher of the Nation Newspaper) 3. DELE ADEOLUWA 4. BISI OLANIYI.

"Also Suit No. PHC/3663/2019 – Senator Magnus Ngei Abe vs. 1. Sir (Hon.) Lucky Worluh. 2. Vanguard Media Limited (Publisher, Sunday Vanguard). 3. Davies Iheamnachor (Reporter, Sunday Vanguard). 4. Wale Akinola (Editor, Sunday Vanguard), to give an opportunity to those who have made these allegations in an effort to rewrite the history of the Rivers APC Crisis to come before the courts, and the public and present the facts on which they stand.

"My integrity and reputation remain my most valuable assets, if I lose that to the politics of hate and deceit then I would have lost everything.

"My lawsuit, therefore, is not intended as a war against any media house, it is rather an open challenge to those who have peddled falsehood when they know the truth to now present the facts behind their falsehood or forever be ashamed to silence."

The senator appealed to all men of goodwill to remember that all the gold on earth is worth nothing, "if we lose our name" and pleaded for cooperation and understanding from all in view of the matter.

Comedian Alibaba: ”Everything is not solved by prayer. Don’t be deceived”

Posted: 06 Nov 2019 06:30 AM PST

Nigerian Comedian, Alibaba, has sparked a debate on social media after he stated that prayers may not be able to solve all problems.

The ace comedian mentioned that common sense is enough to make people understand that prayers will not solve some issues until a step is taken to do that.

Read his post below ;

Everything is not solved by prayer. Don't be deceived.

If you are filthy and need a bath, pray from now till tomorrow, if you no baff, you go still dey smell.

If you are starving, prayer will not make you jollof rice.

If you are thirsty, grab some water.

If the fuel in your car finishes, you branch a petrol station and buy gas. Period

If armed robbers are shooting sporadically, you run for safety.

If you have an exam, you read and prepare for it.

If the church generator is bad, you collect money and buy it.

If you are jobless, you go find work or create one.

If NEPA takes the light, you go turn the generator, or your inverter kicks in, or you stay in the dark.

If you are going to Abuja, you go buy an airline ticket, jump on a train, take a ride… or you kuku trek.

If you do not like what is going on in the church do something, not pray. Jesus did something when he saw that his father's house had been commercialized.

If it has passed #BeCareful it has passed #PrayerIsTheKey

Bola Tinubu reacks as Abba Kyari takes bill to Buhari in UK

Posted: 06 Nov 2019 06:25 AM PST

Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, National Leader, APC

The National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has commended the President, Muhammadu Buhari for signing the Deep Offshore Act in London.

The Chief of Staff, of the President, Abba Kyari was also commended by Bola Tinubu, for traveling to the United Kingdom to present the bill to Buhari for assent.

According to earlier media report by the Daily Post, Kyari had presented the amended Deep Offshore Act to President Buhari in London on Monday.

Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, however said the signing of the bill was a demonstration of Buhari's determination to reform the country's economy.

In a statement he signed personally titled "The Coming Prosperity," he said: "WITH the action by the National Assembly to improve the outdated Deep Offshore Act through legislative amendment, Nigeria has turned an important corner. As stated in his insightful, forward-looking commentary published in ThisDay…Presidential Chief of Staff Abba Kyari rightfully asserted the financial provisions of the old law had outlived their stated purpose. Continuation with this outmoded financial regime enriched the oil companies while depriving Nigeria of a fair bargain.

"Billions of dollars that should have landed in our national coffers to fund public infrastructure and essential social services instead found residence in the balance sheets of the oil firms.

"This was no attempt to deprive the oil majors. We want the firms to make a just profit for their efforts; however, they have been receiving a surplus at the expense of our minimal developmental needs. This is not as things should be.

"The companies are Nigeria's long-term business partners and we have no interest in denigrating them; all we seek is a fair, equitable relationship. The new amendments provide this.

"The amendments demonstrate the important progress to be made when the National Assembly and the Presidency work in harmony for the collective good. Efforts by past governments to amend the law got bogged in failure due to the intervention of special interests.

"This time, finally, the national interests were considered weightier than the special interests of a few. President Buhari and the National Assembly leadership should be commended for this singular achievement.

"Chief of Staff Kyari titled his commentary "Toward a New Deal for Nigeria." This is appropriate and more than symbolic. The title recalls a challenging time in the history of the United States. That nation was in the throes of economic contraction.
Bola Ahmed Tinubu

"The people would vote to remove the austere, insensitive party that had governed the nation for over a decade simply by catering to the wealthy. The people voted for a compassionate, progressive government headed by a committed principled leader to steer the nation out of danger. No two historical situations are identical. But, there are important similarities between our circumstance and the challenges America faced during that period.

"Faced with steep economic challenges, the administration of Franklin Roosevelt dedicated itself to reforming the economy in order to bring prosperity to a hurt and struggling population.

"In so doing, he would reform, at times reinvent, the nation's economic institutions and laws. This would change the relationship between the average citizen and the American government for the better. This was the essence of the New Deal.

"Such beneficial reform is what the Buhari government seeks but in a more complex and challenging environment. The American challenge was exclusively economic. The Nigerian challenge is multi-faceted.

"President Buhari first had to tackle insecurity and the terrorism of Boko Haram. He then had to throttle corruption in official circles so that government could be responsive to the people's needs instead of serving those who enriched themselves from government coffers.

"He had to grapple and make headway with these fundamental problems before shifting primary focus on economic reform. As the title of Chief of Staff Kyari's composition indicate, we now move toward a New Deal for Nigeria.

"President Buhari is intent on reforming the economy that it may answer the needs of the majority of our people. Establishing the Economic Council of Advisers (EAC) was an innovative, bold step, assembling our nation's top economic minds to shape economic programmes and policy. Along with his ministers and other officials, the EAC will offer the president their best professional advice on how to improve all aspects of the economy and government's role in it.

"The amended Deep Offshore Act is not an isolated, solitary act. It is a harbinger.Just as the amended Act brings to the oil sector overdue reform that will benefit national development, the Buhari administration will take a critical look at all major segments of the economy.

"It will do so with an eye to reforming what needs to be reformed and improving what needs to be improved. Just as the oil sector has been made better, all other sectors of the economy will be strengthened.

"The end result will be an economy transformed into one that provides hope, opportunity and meaningful livelihoods for all.

"Indeed, we move toward a New Deal for Nigeria."

How I battled Fibroid for five years - Toyin Lawani narrates her experience

Posted: 06 Nov 2019 05:30 AM PST

Celebrity designer and CEO of "Tiannahs place empire", Toyin Lawani recently opened up on her battle with Fibroid, revealing that she's been battling the ailment for over 13 years.

The fashion stylist and mother of one disclosed that many celebrity women are going through a lot in their private lives and some do not even know they have the ailment since they hardly go for medical tests and check-ups.

Toyin Lawani shared the story of how she battled with fibroid when she was pregnant with her first child Via her Instagram account. She narrated her struggle with fibroid and how she nearly lost her womb.

She wrote;

"I chose to tell you about my story today. I keep everything in my life under wraps because of the negativity out there. 90 percent of my life doesn't make it to the Internet. I've been through a lot in my life, but I'll let you read all the truth in my book and watch on my reality show #Lifeofanenterpreneur…"

"When I had @lilatmfashionista (Tiannah) I bled all through the pregnancy not knowing I was even pregnant till about 5 months after. three years after I had her I was always having stomach pains and bleeding heavily through my periods. I went to see my gynecologist and he said I had three small fibroids and we agreed to take them out through laparoscopic surgery.

"I woke up thinking it was done, he said it was on my womb, that I will lose my womb if he did it, and I didn't sign for them to open me up. They had to do it through major surgery. He said one was on my bladder, which made me pee myself when I cough in public and it gave me terrible back pains and leg pains, but he then advised me to have another baby before the surgery.

Years after, I got pregnant with @lordmaine1 despite the consequences around it. My partner insisted I had the baby after we found out I was pregnant for months like this because I was still having my periods. Due to the fibroids, around five months I was bedridden. I had a lot of pains from the pregnancy and flew to my gynecologist in the UK.

He said I had something called Red Degeneration where the fibroids suck the blood from the baby and doesn't make it grow. The same day I found out I had Gestational Diabetics. I thought I was going to lose the baby, they changed my diet, went through nonstop pains till about 7 months. Later the baby started growing well and so was the 3 fibroids, they put my sugar levels on the check, during this period.

"With all the pains I even had a fashion show in UK @afwlandafwn and no one knew what I was going through. Even after the show I still ended up at d hospital the next day and they couldn't give me any serious meds all through my pains, because it could affect the baby, just pain killers. So, I had to bear the pain and in all these, one day while I was sleeping at home, someone sent me a blog story.

I read a lot of horrible things about the paternity of my child, with a series of lies, just to pull me and the brand that I've worked so hard for down. This worsened my health badly, but my partner & mother-in-law stood by me all through.

"Taking care of me and with prayers, they never doubted me for once. During this period, I couldn't walk, eat, bath myself, nor talk, thanks to my partner and brother. They used to bath me. I also had a sister God sent to me, but the pain stopped after about 7 months.

A lot of my former staff had left me by then, but I raised a team of interns & worked till I was 8 months and two weeks because like everyone else, we have bills to pay. I even lost my home and former shops. After I had the baby, I started working on my new site Tiannahsplacempire quietly…leaving some details out but you can read it in my book.

"The next day after my birthday the 2nd of March, I was having fun with the family at the Federal Palace hotel. I started bleeding chunks of blood nonstop. I was rushed to Reddington and collapsed when we got there. They stopped the bleeding & pleaded with me to do the surgery, but I kept postponing it because I didn't want to lose my womb.

It happened again, but this time I couldn't fly out and a friend told me about a very good Lebanese hospital and they rushed me there. They took the three fibroids out & saved my womb. I was so scared of the scar from the surgery but to my surprise, it's so thin it's unbelievable. When I see people with CS scars, I'm like hell no.

"Well, I thank God for my life & my family for standing by me on my sickbed, and thanks to the wonderful doctors @celebdr Dr. Diya, you are a wonderful man, Dr. Wale, Droke, Dr. Valerie, they all made me feel at home. Too many jokes from them and thanks to my online TeamTiannah and my 40 members of staff at Tiannahsplacempire that kept the Biz going. So, ladies pls check yourself regularly, imagine if I was too far from the hospital?

"This is how people bleed to death. Lord, I thank you for your continued blessings and that I can hold my kids again and have more of them……I'll serve you forever," she revealed.
Just a few days ago, Toyin Lawani started an awareness of "Fibroid" on her Instagram page which she tagged "Fibroidawareness'. The celebrity stylist revealed that she had undergone three surgeries. In a recent post on her Instagram handle, she explained how she coped after the 3 major surgeries. Hear her " "You WILL NEVER KNOW HOW YOUR STORY CAN HELP OTHERS FIGURE OUT THEIR JOURNEY, MY DM IS FUL. So many sad stories, let's create more awareness for Fibroid.

Position if fibroids are different and will affect us differently, but one thing I know for sure is that having Fibroid and being pregnant is the worst thing ever because if it's positioned in your uterus like mine, you will go through Red degeneration. It's either the Baby outgrows the Fibroid or the fibroid outgrows the baby.

At 6months I was told my baby wasn't growing due to The Red degeneration, I gave up. But something told me to go abroad before I take any step, so I did and they were able to manage the pregnancy till I had him. It's good if you have Fibroid and you always seek advice before you take in. I discovered mine 13 years ago.

I didn't know on time, I felt I had a spiritual problem and I was 23 at the time. I've been dealing with it since then, they were too small to take out then. My first laparoscopic surgery in the UK was so heartbreaking.
This was 2014, my first major cut. I had both my kids naturally and I was avoiding the surgery for years.

I was avoiding that big scar, so I went for the surgeries with the small holes. But let me share this experience with you. I was booked for the surgery in the UK already, had 3months to it, so I planned a 3days celebration for my birthday.

The last one, I lodged I and my kids and family at the Federal Palace hotel for the pool party. After the party, I and my nanny took the kids up. I went to the toilet to pee, then I felt I was on my period. Next thing I saw chunks of blood. Well, that's how my period used to be then until I noticed it wasn't stopping.

In a minute, I felt like they killed a cow in the bathroom, the floor was covered in clothed blood like kidney size. I picked up the phone, called my doctor but he was far away. This was 2 am, didn't want to scare the kids so I told my nanny to come in. At this time I found my way in the tub and the blood just kept gushing. I bled for like 30 mins, trying to call for help and didn't want to tell the hotel CSE. I didn't want it in the news.

At this point, I was getting very tired and I said to myself, wow, this is how people die and the first thing that came to my mind was my kids. When I realized it wasn't gonna stop, I told her to tell Tiannah to come in, she's the strongest child I've ever seen. She looked scared but I told her I will be ok. I told her to watch her brother, took the hotel robe and put it between my legs, wore my big boubou and my nanny helped me up.

I wore my shades and walked out of the hotel. My driver had gone home but dropped the key. I drove to Reddington in V.I. On getting to their compound, the gateman was chatting some shit about parking. I came down with blood splashing everywhere and fell down, and that was all I remember. When I woke up, they said they stopped the bleeding and I needed surgery ASAP.

I called @celebdr and they moved me to Ave Maria. I was scared of sleeping so they paralyzed me through it, so my eyes were open, it got to a point I started screaming, I felt every pain. From the cutting to the lasering of my Uterus, it was awful. They quickly gave me a jab and it knocked me out.

When I woke up, I saw my beautiful kids playing with my hair. I smiled, Fibroid is not a joke. Imagine doing several surgeries and having several comebacks. I'm on a herb now and one went already, will share details later after my next scan. #FAWARENESS

"Fibroid scars are not anything to be ashamed of and tied to other things, women go through a lot of pains through these procedures, so wear your scars with pride.
"Wishing everyone out there going through this good luck".

Oscar Selection Committee Responds to the Disqualification of “Lionheart” from the 92nd Academy Awards

Posted: 06 Nov 2019 05:00 AM PST

The Nigeria Oscar Selection Committee (NOSC) has today responded to the recent disqualification of Genevieve Nnaji's 'Lionheart' submission to the 92nd Academy Awards.

According to the Academy, nominees in the Best International Feature Film Category must have a predominantly non-English dialogue track, and 'Lionheart,' despite being an unmistakably Nigerian film, fails to tick this box.

The announcement has attracted concerns from movie producers, with major voices like American filmmaker, Ava DuVernay speaking up against the disqualification on social media.

Responding to this recent development, the NOSC Chairperson Chineze Anyaene said:

The budding Nigerian film industry is often faced with producing films with wide reach which often makes the recording dialogue predominantly English with non-English infusions in some cases.

Going forward, the committee intends to submit films which are predominantly foreign language – non-English recording dialogue. We are therefore urging filmmakers to shoot with intention of non-English recording dialogue as a key qualifying parameter to represent the country in the most prestigious award.

The committee is working tirelessly in organizing workshops, seminars and using other available media to create robust awareness on the guidelines and requirements for an International Feature Film Entry.

Lionheart passed on other technical requirements from story, to sound and picture except for language as adjudged by the Academy screening matrix, which was a challenge for the committee at a time. This is an eye opener and step forward into growing a better industry."

The Best International Feature Film category is stated to carry certain requirements, which must be fulfilled before a film can be submitted.

Some of them are:

1. The film must have been first released in the country submitting it, after which it must have been exhibited for a minimum of 7 consecutive days in a movie theatre.

2. The movie must be predominantly non-English which means that movies with predominant English dialogue will not qualify for the award.

3. The film must not be transmitted electronically or otherwise, before its official release in the theatre.

Academy disqualifies Nigeria’s Oscar Entry, ‘Lion Heart’

Posted: 06 Nov 2019 04:30 AM PST

The Academy has disqualified Nigeria's "Lionheart" from the list of movies in the Best International Feature Film category, to compete for the Oscars Award.

Lion heart, which was directed by Genevieve Nnaji was the first film ever submitted to the Oscars by Nigeria.

Although the movie contained a little of Igbo Language, it is mostly in English, which violates an Academy rule that entries in the category must have "a predominantly non-English dialogue track."

American filmmaker, Ava DuVernay took to Twitter to question the Academy's decision to disqualify 'Lion heart' from the list of entries for the Oscars Award, insisting that English is Nigeria's official language.

Stressing further, She also asked the 'Academy' if they are trying bar Nigeria from competing for an Oscar in its official language.

Following the development, some Nigerians have aired their views on the situation. While some feel that 'Lion heart' wasn't even a valid entry for the Oscars awards, others insisted that it's time to change the rule of the 'Academy'.

"Lionheart," in which Nnaji plays a woman who tries to keep her father's struggling company afloat in a male-dominated environment, is currently available on Netflix.

Genevieve Nnaji in a new tweet, has given the 'Academy' some reasons why 'Lion Heart' remains unique, so that they can reconsider their decision about disqualifying 'Lion Heart' from the entries for Oscars Award.

She made the tweet while replying American filmmaker, Ava DuVernay who earlier showed her concern by calling out the Academy and questioning the authenticity of their judgement wit regards to the disqualification of 'Lion Heart'.

Ava said;

"To @TheAcademy, You disqualified Nigeria's first-ever submission for Best International Feature because its in English. But English is the official language of Nigeria. Are you barring this country from ever competing for an Oscar in its official language?"

Replying her tweet, Genevieve wrote;

"1/1 1/2 Thank you so much @ava❤️.

I am the director of Lionheart. This movie represents the way we speak as Nigerians. This includes English which acts as a bridge between the 500+ languages spoken in our country; thereby making us #OneNigeria.

2/2 It's no different to how French connects communities in former French colonies. We did not choose who colonized us. As ever, this film and many like it, is proudly Nigerian"

Nigerian Writer, Sugabelly reveals disqualification reasons behind ‘Genevieve’s Lionheart movie

Posted: 06 Nov 2019 01:30 AM PST

Earlier today, news went viral that Nigeria's entry for Academy/Oscar awards, the movie 'Lionheart' was disqualified from its category because there was too much dialogue in English.

Actress, Genevieve Nnaji, who directed and starred in the movie, in her reaction, stressed that English is the official language of Nigeria, a language that unites a country of over 500 different ethnic tribes.

Nigerians are also reacting to the news on social media and a popular/controversial writer, Sugabelly, is of the opinion that the movie was disqualified simply because it did not meet up to standard.

Her tweet reads ;

"The first and last thing I am going to say about this Lionheart Oscars / Academy Awards lunacy is this: Korea did not submit Train to Busan to the Oscars, you think it's Lionheart that deserves to be nominated for an Oscar.
Please check into rehab and say no to drugs.

I really need to stress that the problem with #Lionheart being nominated or not nominated for the #Oscars has nothing to do with whether it's in English or not. THE FILM IS JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH. Period. Imagine expecting Lionheart to stand next to Parasite in the Nominations."
