Couple of months ago, Nigerian singer and songwriter Peruzzi Vibes and BBNaija's Ceec, were the topic of discussion on social media after they made many believe that they were the latest celebrity couple in the industry.

The speculation of a relationship between the two was driven further by Ceec making a cameo appearance as Peruzzi's love interest in the music video for Majesty.

This was followed by the two doting on each other online, using endearing names and also sharing sneak peeks of their private video calls on social media.

Although they never confirmed if they were dating, they dropped enough hints to make their fans believe that a romantic relationship existed between them.

Fast forward to the present, Peruzzi has now made it clear that he never had any romantic relationship with the controversial reality star.

Peruzzi made this known in the middle of an Instagram live video session with Hot FM Lagos.

10 years ago Dagrin passed away; here is a recollection of that fateful day

Posted: 23 Apr 2020 12:10 PM PDT

This is an account of the day Dagrin died from a young journalist in 2009.

I was tired. I had just clocked another day at Hip Hop World Magazine.

From the mid-90s to circa 2006, Hip Hop World Magazine set the tone for music journalism in the country. In 2008, I was lucky to start working for the legendary publication. A year after, I became a full-time start.

Working at Hip Hop World Magazine was very demanding. And having Ayo Animashaun (CEO of Smooth Promotions, the mother company of Hip TV and Headies) you had to be on your toes 24/7. His no-nonsense approach is why his company has produced so many great writers in the business.

On April 22, 2010, it was a normal day at the office. I can't remember what I did at the office that day but I know I worked my socks off. On my way home at night, I bought plantain chips to quell the rising hunger in my stomach.

I got home a few minutes past 8. I had just removed my shoes and I was about to rest my head on my bed when my deadbeat Nokia phone rang.

"Mr Ayo wants you back in the office now." It was Augusta "Baby' Bernard, then a Hip TV presenter that was on the line. I was dead tired.

"What for?" I asked.

"It's about Dagrin."

My heart skipped a beat. "What about him is he dead?"

Baby hesitated for a while and said "I don't know. Mr Ayo just wants you back in the office."

"OK, ok. I am on my way." I wasn't tired anymore. I wore my shoes and took a bike to Ogundana street, off Allen Avenue in Ikeja.

Dagrin was a rap star. His sophomore album 'was the hottest thing on the streets late 2009 and 2010. He was widely regarded as the new rap messiah. His brand of reality rap- a hustler's dream, ambition and nightmares resonated with millions of young Nigerians who were going through the same struggle. Dagrin was their mouthpiece.

Dagrin's trajectory was however cut short. On April 14, 2010, he had a ghastly motor accident. His vehicle rammed into a stationary truck at night. There were reports that Dagrin was drunk. He never saw the truck that was parked opposite a police station. Dagrin went into a coma as a result of the collision.

There were conflicting reports about his injuries. Some said he was okay and recovering. Others said he was in a pretty bad shape and his life was in the balance.

Dagrin was a special rapper to me. In October 2009, I opened my now defunct blog Pop Off Central and my first post was a review of C.E.O. I loved Dagrin's music. While the new breed of rappers gave us well-orchestrated lifestyle bars, his music's emotional pastry was so vivid that I could touch it.

On my way back to the office, I couldn't imagine Dagrin was dead. It wasn't possible I told myself. A few days before his accident, he was at the Hip Hop World Magazine office for the Hip Hop World Awards (now Headies) nominees list press conference. Dagrin was the star of the event. He picked up several nominations. I watched Dagrin closely that day and noticed he was shy and wasn't excited about his nominations.

When I got to the office reality hit me. "Dagrin is dead," said Ayo Animashaun. He instructed me to go to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital to cover what was happening there. I quickly grabbed the camera under my desk and went inside the staff bus.

I didn't go LUTH alone. I went with Dorisha (another Hip TV presenter at that time) and Dayo Ephraim. The man who drove the bus was Bayo, the company driver, a Hip Hop World legend in his own right.

We got to LUTH and it was pretty much obvious something was going down. People were gradually trooping in from all corners. The word was spreading, Dagrin, the ghetto champ and the people's representative was dead.

For some reason, we all gathered at a spot, fans, press people and the curious. A few minutes later stars started rolling in. Sasha was one of the first to show up. She looked sad. Olu Maintain in his immaculate blue jalabia and dark as hell sunshades managed to look ruffled.

If you had any doubts that Dagrin was dead, YQ erased those doubts. He ran into LUTH like a man looking for hope. People who were with Dagrin at the time of his death confirmed to him that he was dead. YQ lost it. He rolled on the floor and wailed. Olu Maintain shrunk in size as he sadly shook his head. Dagrin was gone forever.

The fans who gathered around started crying too. Their man was dead. Dagrin not only told history but theirs as well. Many of the fans started cursing the doctors at LUTH. The government-owned hospital was on strike when Dagrin was admitted. Many said the doctors didn't give the rapper the best care and attention and blamed his death on them.

Dagrin's father came out shortly after and confirmed his son was dead and advised members of the press to respect the privacy of the people at LUTH who were mourning Dagrin.

We at the Hip Hop World crew didn't bring out our cameras because it was an emotionally charged atmosphere. A NET reporter by the name of Dayo tried to bring out his camera and he was immediately 'rushed' by those around.

We called Mr Ayo and told him the situation on the ground. He agreed that we leave LUTH and come back to the office. This was around past 11 pm. It was sure I was sleeping at the office. On our way out from LUTH, I witnessed one of the most cinematic moments in my life.

Hundreds of people were rushing to LUTH. It seemed the whole of Lagos had heard. People drove their cars blasting 'Pon Pon Pon'- Dagrin's ode for his Naija heritage, or 'Ghetto Dreams' his chilling portrayal of life at the bottom and his struggles. It was a chilling moment, one that would replicate itself in a more grandiose way at Dagrin's candle light service.

We headed back to the Hip Hop World office and the events that would happen there would birth a new chapter in entertainment journalism in Nigeria.

Comedian I Go Dye gives his newly built mansion to FG as an isolation centre for Covid-19 patients

Posted: 23 Apr 2020 05:00 AM PDT

The comedian says this is his personal contribution to help manage the surge of coronavirus cases in the country.

Nigerian comedian, Francis Agoda popularly known as I Go Dye has donated his newly built mansion to the federal government as an isolation center for coronavirus patients.

Nigeria has a total of seven hundred and eighty-two confirmed cases of the virus.

The comedian took to his Instagram page on Wednesday, April 22, 2020, where he shared a photo of the palatial property.

"I'm donating my new fapoh royal seal mansion to the federal government of Nigeria to use it as an isolation center. Humanity will overcome all its challenges only if we are willing to let go of the things we are not using for now for the benefit of others," he captioned the photo.

"In view of the increasing cases of #coronavirus patients in Nigeria, and the few screening centres available for now, I'm deeply worried. We will be making humanitarian sacrifices towards contributing our selfless deeds to control the escalating records of the #coronavirus as predicted by WHO.

"When I wrote an open letter to Mr President on the 5th of Apri 2020 on how we can control the spread of the convid-19, it was only 210 cases, today it's moving towards a thousand. We should be proactive if we hope to win this global war, that has no boundaries, no discrimination, and unfortunately indestructible for now.

"Against this backdrop and the ongoing lockdown, the few services left has been put on hold at the ongoing FAPOH Royal Seal Mansion project site. I feel convinced to donate this my new FAPOH Royal Seal Mansion to the Federal Government to used as an isolation centre.

"As my personal quest to assist in the control, prevention, isolation, and treatment of those diagnosed or to be treated in the course of us finding a lasting solution.

"This donation will stand as a gift to humanity, till we find a solution which will once again set us free from the shackles of this incurable disease. I am appealing to Nigerians to take this matter seriously because Covid-19 is real as it has claimed over one million lives in all parts of the world.

"The hardship is really getting harder, it may jeopardize the progress of controlling the spread of the virus. The federal government must provide adequate palliatives for all Nigerians until this disease becomes a thing of the past.

"I also appeal for a two-week total lockdown to enable the government to treat existing cases and curb further spread by those who may have contracted the Covid-19. This lockdown will control all forms of movement and socialization between individuals or groups. May God see us through these dark moments. Amb Francis Agoda.

Coronavirus cases have been detected in 24 states and the FCT. 197 people have recovered.

560 of the total number of cases are currently active

Comedian, AY Markun talks about the challenges celebrities face when giving to the needy

Posted: 23 Apr 2020 01:30 AM PDT

Comedian, AY Makun has opened up about the challenges he and other celebrities face when giving to the needy.

He said when celebrities give in private, they are usually called out on social media for being stingy and not joining their fellow celebrities to help the poor. When they decide to take photos and videos of their giving and share publicly, they are accused of showing off.

He added that when companies give back to society and announce it, it's called "Corporate Social Responsibility", but when individual celebrities so it, they are shamed for showing off their acts of charity.

He wrote:

"The major problem we have concerning the act of giving in Nigeria, are people who lace good thoughts with insults to the detriment of the givers.

"When celebrities give to people in need without letting you know anything about it, you say to them "All you Yeyebrities are busy posting pictures of your houses when your mates are doing a lot to help people who are hungry out there".

When we respond by letting you know how we have been doing a whole lot to help, some of you ask for proofs by saying " Please don't come here and tell us how you've been helping people with what we can't see or confirm".

"When we now give and let you in our business, you come to us again and call it 'showoff'. When companies operating within our environments gives to the people and announce it to the public with bigger events and unveilings, you applaud them and accept the ideas as good acts of Corporate Social Responsibility.

"But when celebrities with brand names do exactly same,You will still sneak in on them with your negative comments, and call them 'Audio Givers or Showoff Kings/Queens. You even sometimes attack them by saying " Do it quietly, we don't have to know on social media".

"It is actually okay to make constructive suggestions or share better ideas on how to give to those in need, without trying to indict the people that are at least making some efforts. Let's make it our responsibility to do the best we can in changing the things we don't like by encouraging each other respectfully.

"Rather than have a picture of someone 'showing off' in your head, celebrate the individual who is doing what the government is not doing for its citizens in need. Social responsibility is what everybody is entitled to do in their own ways."
