Program Assistant Position for May or Recent Grad with the Population Reference Bureau Posted: 26 May 2020 08:41 AM PDT Position description The Program Assistant will serve as a member of the International Programs department, providing administrative, logistic, and coordination support to programs and activities. The Program Assistant will assist with organizing meetings and conferences, handling travel arrangements, maintaining training/workshop participant and contact lists, processing invoices, editing and formatting workplans and reports, drafting, reviewing, and editing correspondence and other short materials in English and French, and streamlining administrative processes when possible. The Program Assistant may also be called upon to provide substantive support to projects. This support may include researching data and information, assisting with background research, writing or drafting materials, compiling, checking and cleaning data for monitoring, evaluation and learning initiatives as well as liaising with partners and stakeholders to collect data in support of project reporting. PRB has been at the cutting edge of synthesizing complex information for non-technical audiences; making quality information available in accessible formats; strengthening the capacity of researchers, practitioners, and journalists; and creating spaces for these communities to exchange knowledge. PRB staff are experts in family planning, reproductive health, and population, including gender and youth, and in knowledge management, advocacy, communications, journalism, digital/multimedia, and research. The successful candidate will be a critical member of the International Programs department, and will support our media trainings, policy communication trainings, and will provide program and administrative support to other activities with partners in East, West and Southern Africa, and South Asia. S/he is interested in learning about development priorities in an international context, and excited to work with PRB's team of demographers, researchers, and development experts. Maryland Today | Federal Aid Available for UMD Students Facing Pandemic-related Financial Hardships Posted: 26 May 2020 08:34 AM PDT As of Monday, 5,069 Terps had been awarded $5,069,000 using information from the 2019-20 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and another $5 million has been earmarked for students to access through the new UMD CARES Act Emergency Student Financial Aid Grant Application. "The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted our students in so many ways, including financially," said Patty Perillo, vice president for student affairs. "We are grateful for the vital support we've received from Congress to provide students with additional resources during this time." To be eligible to apply for a grant, students must be: Currently or previously enrolled in a degree or eligible certificate program for the Spring 2020 semester on or after March 13. Adversely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic campus interruption and with an emergency need. A U.S. citizen or someone who meets the definition of an eligible non-citizen based on federal financial aid requirements. Qualified under federal financial aid eligibility requirements. Using the funds to cover expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, including food, housing, rent, utilities, course materials, technology-related needs, and health or child care. Students who wish to apply must fill out the application and provide a statement about how the COVID-19 situation and the disruption of campus operations resulted in financial hardship. The Office of Student Financial Aid will review applications and release decisions via email within seven to 10 business days. Emergency grants will be paid through the student billing process and can be viewed using the student financial aid portal.
